Title: What'd you do over the weekend?
Post by: Griffith on April 12, 2010, 08:09:23 PM
I went to visit MY GIRLFRIEND and ended up running around doing various things, even "DJing" (playing the music), at a scholarship dance event she put on at UCLA with real dancers. That same night got my drink on and played and won two games of tournament style Texas Hold'em Poker with some friends, one game in dramatic fashion by getting called all in with pocket aces (seriously =). Beat Mega Man 10 the next day, went back to see the girl Saturday night, did nothing but stay in Sunday, complete with pizza, beer, and a movie later; a winning weekend to that point, until I got some very sad news about a friend. This morning I got home just in time to get my car in for repairs so I can do it again.

How about you all?

Whoa, DEEJAY! That's serious dude. What'd you spin for that crew?

Me and MY WIFE went to a dinner party where we brought a portion of the ingredients, and other friends brought the rest, for what became a Mexican smorgasbord. Then we got drunk on wonderful margaritas and played a horrible board game (Catch Phrase) that ended up being hilarious and embarrassing for all involved.

That was Saturday afternoon and night. On Sunday I went for a run (I run every weekend) and spent the rest of the time playing Infinite Space on DS (http://www.skullknight.net/forum/index.php?topic=11758.0) between doing chores and shopping with MY WIFE.

Saturday:

Spent the weekend with my g/f in the city. Saw my good friend's older sister, got sushi, went to a place called Rice to Riches. We then scored free tickets to see a little play called 666. Which was FUCKING INSANELY FUNNY. Best of all, it was free. After the play we drank more and took the LIRR back to Queens.

Here's a very tame bit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSyHhkwDzow
And a not so tame bit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gvKsi88PdA&feature=related
The play consisted of alot Demon Penis toward the end. Hilarious shit though.  :troll:

Sunday:

Got Iced Coffee in the mornin' then watched Donnie Darko. (It's been a while since I last saw it and noticed that fuckin' Seth Rogen was in it.) Then ate Rice Cake and went home to do some school work.

Oburi wins!

Mine wasn't special. I fended off the booze monster better than usual, continued my fairly strict diet and exercise routine, and watched The Blind Side. I think I've accidentally been doing what I've heard people call "growing up" recently. We'll see though, I expect to snap out of it soon.

That sounds like corny but fun, always nice to hang out with a group of friends and do things like that.

Ooooo how did that go??? First date?? how'd ya meet her??  sorry.. i'm just curious and figured I can enjoy someone else going on a date instead of myself  :judo:

I.. shit... I can't remember...

hah, I thought you learned your lesson from your birthday party????

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
.. as for me I went to lunch with my EX-GIRLFRIEND (are we doing this because of that one guy i saw on vagabond forums always posting comments talking about "my girlfriend and me.."? which i laughed so freakin hard when one of you guys compiled a list of a lot/all of the times the said person stated that in a huge block of text... funny stuff) which I hadn't scene her in 5 years, and it wasn't even weird or awkward! phew!! I was praying for that.... now... she's already wanting to teach me how to cook and watch anime.. but i can't tell if it's as a friend or not.... which is making this all so harder.. if i should even go that route. Oh well, time will tell, eh?
also... don't call me weird...well whatever... but when people say "i hung out with friends" or "i like hanging out with friends" for like a weekend thing or whatever... what does that really mean? I know people do miscellaneous things, but what could friends offer that's enjoyable to do over and over? I guess it's based on age, if your teen/college kids you just try to get laid/drink/party/video games etc?  What if all that is boring? then.. what do you do?
When me and my friends hang out we just stare at each other without speaking for hours on end. That's how we do it anyway, not sure about others.
P.S. My friends are the corpses of the small animals I torture to death while looking at SK.net activity logs.
Most of the time with my friends we'll play games, watch tv (I used to have people over weekly for 24), go out and do something (Go hiking, movie, concert, etc.), or often we just sit and chew the fat for hours on end. That's probably what I do more often than not. It can be great wasting hours spewing off about 'the good old days' or philosophy, politics etc.
Other people go out to bars, I know some people who get together and jam with musical instruments, some people love to go shopping together, some people knit etc.
Life is usually better when you're not alone, but hey, some people are loners. I've got no problem with that as long as they don't end up doing crazy antisocial things such as mowing down a group of people in the mall because they're lonely and blame the world etc.  :sad:
Yes, first date went very nice. I met her through the internet interesting enough. But its such a small world, shes a friend of several of my local friends. So, we're blending very smoothly. On Saturday, I watched the first season of Battlestar Galactica.
On Sunday, my office flooded due to this stupid storm.  Spent the entire morning pulling things out from about 3 inches of water.  Lost some of my paintings, drawings and a few volumes of Berserk that I had read from the night before.
Oh man, I'm really sorry to hear that. I've ended up with a few drawings ruined by the elements over the years, it's miserable. That's when I got into the habit of putting everything in a folder or a binder and keeping it in a corner somewhere.
Anyway, as for my weekend, I was sick. :judo: However, I still managed to pull myself off the couch for an afternoon and went to see How to Train Your Dragon with the Gobmeister. Between us, we downed a veggie pizza and listened to a good portion of Hirasawa's Aurora album. Not too bad, if I say so myself! :guts:
I did try to bring my blowup doll with Slan69's face taped onto it with us for the outing, but it wouldn't fit into the back of Gobs's car. :sad:
Whoa, DEEJAY! That's serious dude. What'd you spin for that crew?
The OP in this thread is fucking hilarious   :ubik: :ubik: :ubik:
To follow up on that hilarious weekend, the music was mostly cultural dance music, there was Thai (x3), Indian, Folklorico (x3), Salsa, and a modern lyrical dance. We hand an AV guy on hand, but his job was just to make sure the sound, lighting, and video was working, not to coordinate and play the music for the dances. The responsibility kind of fell to me because I seemed the most familiar with the equipment and what needed to be done, organizing the music etc, so that kept me busy for a few hours anyway (I ended up having to switch between some decade old mac laptop and an ipod for the jams, neither of which I'm familiar with how to use). So yeah, not really DJing haha, but I was just supposed to be a guest when I arrived. At the end there was a free dance for the hall and as others took over playlist duties everything was played from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Leftover Crack. :ganishka:
And to follow up on poker later that night, here's the recipe for an unstoppable card juggernaut: started out with a 24 oz MAMBA JOOSE (9.9% alcohol w00t), moved up to some Blue Moons with orange slices, Heineken (still moving up), and a Bud Lime I could barely finish before some water and and sleep time). A mixed bag to be sure, but the price was right. Oh, and how could I forget to mention this, walking to poker, I found a loose Barry Manilow vinyl in the street, so when I stopped at the liquor store to grab that JOOSE for a quick buzz injection, I hold up the record and quip to the proprietor, "I can't believe someone threw Barry Manilow in the street!" After a beat of him looking quizzical, he laughs, either cause he got it, or because he was humoring me. =)
As for this weekend, a sportier affair, played some hoops and had a big family dinner yesterday, and today had some batting practice; nothing like letting 'em fly at the park. Also enjoyed me some playoff basketball.
I had a pretty fine weekend myself. I saw Evil Dead in a theater. That's right the original EVIL DEAD! at this indie theater in the city for a one time only event. The show was at midnight and it was filled with real fans (real freaks also) and the theater was a real grindhouse tyle place were you could drink beer and everything. I never been to a theater like that before but it was so much fun. Everyone was laughing and cheering the whole time. When the owner came out at the begging and said that he was happy with the turnout, he mentioned that he would take requests for other films people want to see, to which I shouted "Evil Dead 2"! and everyone laughed and I felt good.
It was awesome. And now I'm going to be keeping an eye on that place so I can see more old school horror movies.
We did a wrestling production over last weekend. I got a clip that made my day. Its my brother; ring name "Hex." He literally eats the ring rope, and then the outside mat when knocked off the top. Not planned, couldn't recreate this if we tried. Reminds me of a anime-sort injury. This is from show 1 of the 8 we will be doing through out the year till December.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUhjgokuwdo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUhjgokuwdo)
Although, that wasn't the of weekend. I took my new honey on a date the restaurant my mother works at. That was quite nice. But word was that the cooks in the back were all hung over from the night before, it was causing trouble in back. Ended up waiting an hour for food.  :puck:
Me and the lady friend are getting along just fine. It seems she hasn't seen very many movies. We were stranded at her place for the evening due to flooding, we watched Steven Kings "Needful things." The flooding was pretty bad around her place. Its been raining 3 days straight.
Well, the highlight of my weekend was being treated to a delicious filet mignon dinner, with peppercorn cognac sauce, at Soleil French Bistro to celebrate my upcoming move. This is seriously good steak, the first time I had it, I was moaning... intimately. Yes, I'd describe it as orgasmic.
My weekend has been a mix of awesome and horrible. On the good side of things I met a girl and we really like each other so that has been fun. But on the down side I realized that I over drafted my account for $450 and I still have credit cards to pay off AND  my license was suspended for traffic tickets. So I'm currently broke as a joke and I'll have to move back in with my parents :judo: I just hope they have cable in the basement so i can still surf sk.net!
God damn, that sucks. Sorry to hear that, Oburi. I hear you on the overdraft thing, I did that a few months ago myself and I also have a credit card or two to pay off.
My girlfriend and I went to my friend's wedding on Saturday where I ate way too much and drank way too little, if you know what I mean. The groom's friends brew their own beer and brought a keg of the delicious stuff with them. Aside from too little carbonation, it was really, really good. I ended up catching the garter, which is funny since the bride and I have been friends since grade school. On Sunday I caught up on all my TV programs that I DVR'd earlier in the week, had dinner with my parents and played some World of Warcraft before bed. All in all it was a pretty good weekend.
Sorry to hear about all the bad news Oburi, I'm sure losing your license sucks. I wouldn't know personally I don't have one...yet.
Well my weekend was alright. Saturday I headed into Toronto for my weekly Japanese language course, came home and spent time with my daughter. My husband worked all weekend so it was just the two of us. All afternoon she tortured me with Toy Story 2, over and over and over again. Sunday I cleaned, spent time with the family played a bit of Final Fantasy 13, and finished my homework. I also discovered my almost 3 year-old thinks Guts is "cute, and Griffith is "a pretty girl".
I think I'll go insane if I have to watch any more Toy Story...
I would avoid that if I were you. The one time I ended up in a holding area due to accidentally missing a court date, they threw me in a cell next to a crazy dude who kept screaming, banging on the doors and smearing his own feces everywhere. And that was one of the nicer seeming people there.
Also, the detention center I was at was on the outskirts of Colorado. I can't imagine a big city detention center.
Anniversary weekend, went to the Dodger game on Friday, all you can eat seats, very cool, and we came home with like six Dodger dogs. :ganishka:
Saturday a trip to San Diego, Little Italy, Seaside Village, and Gaslamp Quarter. Then a trip to Imperial Beach the next day, where we watched game 1 of Lakers/Jazz while drinking Negra Modelo and Fat Tires, then hung on the beach and the pier. Later in the evening it was back to home, where I spent Monday apartment hunting in the heat, definitely the nadir.
My past few weeks have been quite gratifying. Sending building supplies to Haiti, handing out food to the homeless of Atlanta, and packaging school books to be send all over Africa. =) Feels really great. This week I'm compiling clothing from everyone I know to contribute to the poverty-stricken in the city to bring with me to the garage we feed the homeless at.
Really trying to make a habit out of volunteering to help the homeless. Just patting them on the back and letting them know that I care really helps I think..
My city, Bellevue, actually got completely fucked, more than most areas. But we were fine. I live on the second floor of an apartment building, and our entire complex is on a slant anyway, so we got no flooding, except for a visible river in our "yard" behind us.
New York City!
'Twas a fun trip, to say the least. Grand Central Terminal, Chinatown, Little Italy, Brooklyn, Harlem, Times Square, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, etc. Even then I feel as if I've just scratched the surface of what this amazing city has to offer.
We also got to see a broadway play featuring Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell. A Behanding in Spokane (http://www.behandinginspokane.com/?gclid=CIn-irSj6qECFQdS2godZiHZJQ). I can't even describe how fun that was. Definitely going back... even though I say that about everywhere I visit.
We have tons of pictures, I might upload a few if I'm still giddy later, and I give a shit too. <--- (look, NY attitude!)
Went hiking this weekend, actually, with my gf and her best friend/field-guide. The summit was about a mile up and looked like this:
We started at the lake.
It was alot of effort, took about hour-and-a-half to two-hours, taking breaks every now and then and making sure we were on the right path, but was TOTALLY and EPICALLY worth it.
handing out food to the homeless of Atlanta
!!
So you live in Atlanta??? You handed out food in Atlanta to the homeless?? Funny thing is two weeks ago i volunteer to help feed the homeless in Atlanta too!! I was helping the West Cobb Church distribute food. It didn't feel as rewarding, but who cares? It was good to help out. Was debating of doing it this Thursday too. But they had a lot of people helping out so I feel I wasn't really needed. I'll probably find another cause that I can be more helpful to.
Yeah, we do it with Kashi. Basically we all load up into different cars and go into a warehouse where we hand out sack lunches. And yeah, last time we went their were a good amount of people... I think certain companies pay their employees to wear shirts advertising them while doing this service for promotion. Normally though, there's a small group of us.
Me and my girlfriend usually just stand near the front and touch and talk to the homeless, as opposed to feeding them directly. We might change that soon, but it's a nice feeling to actually touch these people, look them in the eye, and talk to them. I think most people would be surprised (sadly) by how much of a difference that makes. These people are ignored and shut out so much that simply acknowledging them is a huge help. Even the ones who are messed up... you can tell they expect to be ignored or judged badly, just holding their hand and letting them know that someone out there cares... you can really see that it means a lot to them.
You guys this sucks. I'm in the process of moving right now and of course that includes packing up my computer and unpacking at my grandmothers (which is where I'm going). Such a hassel, and I prolly won't have internet for a while because there is no cable at my grandmothers! I will cry if a new eps of berserk comes out this next week and I miss it.
Tomorrow - clean the pad, give out my clothes to the laundromat for dry cleaning and wash (I need someone to show me how to use these goddarn wash machines ... I'm too scared to try it on my own and shrink everything!), catch up with movies, anime, manga.
Sunday - hit up Central Park *coughtocheckoutthebeautifulwomensunbathingcough*, practice some guitar shtuffz, catch up with anime, manga, the works, stay away from work emails.
Back to my summer job at the sleep disorder center as a technician. I get swab the fatties clean and stick electrodes on their greasy folds before they go to sleep. If I'm lucky, I'll get to spend the whole night watching them choke under the weight of their own fat as they fail to breathe on their own. Fascinating work! :troll:
Off to a good start- a chunk of the hydraulic brake system in my car failed. Thankfully it wasn't the whole thing or I would have gotten into an accident. Not sure how much it's going to cost to fix, but my guess is it may be time to find a new car...  16 years and 220,000+ miles is probably as good as I can ask from it.
Went to work early this morning for a breakfast type thing they were having for all the employees. It was pretty sweet.
Then, today, me and the lady went to Japantown. I bought Japanese Berserk volumes 23, 24, and 25 at Kinokuniya.
I also ate spicy chicken curry. It was amazing.
We went to a midnight screening of The Room (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Room_%28film%29) this weekend. If anyone hasn't gone to a theater to see this yet, I highly suggest it. It is a great experience. The audience is a riot, spewing out a barrage of great one-liners. It makes the viewing of the film actually quite bearable and enjoyable.
Played a lot of Table Tennis this afternoon at Spin in Manhattan for about 3 hours. I'd recommend the place and the Appetizers + Bar out there were pretty good imo. Hung out at Best Buy with a pal who wanted to pick up a Cassette Player, which he didn't cos there was just 1 (a Sony Walkman), and I figure we'd see more at J&R. There's one close to work, so we'll check it out tomorrow. Wasn't impressed with their selection of Printer-Scanners, something I need to pick up. This weekend was a little wild for me. My friend's girlfriend broke up with him, making him depressed, so I decided to take him out to get his mind of things. So for basically 3 days in a row we just went on a bar hopping spree and crashed at random peoples places, woke up late in the afternoon, played some video games and went out again. I called out of work sick yesterday and only went home this morning to get my work stuff for today. I'm in terribly bad shape, and we are going back out again tonight. The worst part is my buddy ran out of money fast and I ended running up the tabs, then we went to get tattoo's, him first then me, but because we are idiots and didn't ask how much it would be in advance, after he got his I couldn't afford mine. So i payed $100 for his tattoo and I got nothing.
Oh yea and a guy I work with recognized me the night I had called out and I'm pretty sure he told my boss. I forgot it was a vacation day too so I missed the holiday pay. I swear it's impossible to make decisions when drinking. I'm down like $500, most of which I'll never get paid back.
That sucks bro. Sorry to hear it.
Friday night I got to see some of my favorite bands, Underoath, A Skylit Drive and Thursday. Man it was such an great show, the energy was amazing. The cool thing was that we got right up front, only about three rows of people between us and the stage. The bad part is that I missed out on being able to enjoy the full musical experience because I was constantly looking over my shoulder for people fighting or jumping on top of us crowed surfing. I got kicked in the face like 12 times and my body hurts all over. There were so many people and I was stuck in the complete center, absolutely no way out, ready to keel over and just dying of thirst. Luckily, my proudest moment came when the guitarist threw his water bottle into the crowed and, like the end of some epic baseball movie, I jumped up caught it with such determination, nobody stood a chance. I took a sip then a passed it along, like a gentleman of course!  :serpico:
I had to free tickets to see Michael Ian Black at a comedy show saturday night, which I was so excited for but at the last possible second my freind bailed on me. So instead I ended up giving the tickets to another old buddy I bumped into. It kinda sucks that I didn't get to go, but at least the tickets didn't go waste.
I did get to see Emarosa and Chiodos (another one of me favorite bands) on thursday and it was such an amazing show.  I even managed to jump up like superman and catch a drumstick that they threw into the crowed.  I'm pretty satisfied actually, I got to see three of my favorite bands in less than a week. Man, she sat on the couch and she said "oh my god, what's that skeleton (SK Bust) you've got there?!" and I calmed her down a bit explaining it wasn't real and it was off Berserk, jumped 2 steps to the right to grab a Volume with SK to show her it was a character. She said it was a bit too dark for the apartment, would garner negative energy perhaps ... you know that sorta stuff. She noticed my 2 show-cases on either side of the couch and put her glasses on. Staring back at her to her right is the Zodd-Wyald statue and she gushed the same way she did with the SK Bust and asked if the blood was real. Then I went on a 5 minute info talk detailing everything, showing her statues and the intricate detail involved and showed her Musashi's statue which was a change from all the blood in Berserk! I said "Ma, if it helps, worse comes to worse I'll put a piece of cloth on my cabinets and the 3 busts so it won't freak you out", she said yeah, that would help. I didn't do anything that night, but asked her if I should the next day and she said she was getting used to it. She said no girl would wanna come home to this sort of thing and that's when I remember the girls/ women of the board! My mom's cool that way (used to watch Rurouni Kenshin and One Piece with me and my bro back home at lunch/ dinner), just a bit of shock for her cos she was here last May and there were 0 statues or PVC's back then :farnese:
I saw an Opera over the weekend: Madame Butterfly.
It was the first Opera I've been too and I really enjoyed it. It was sang sung 100% in Italian, but they did have a screen with subtitles for all 3 Acts. Ever since I saw the Final Fantasy symphony with the Opera that came here in Atlanta recently I've been wanting to see a full Opera and man it did not disappoint. Such a sad, but nice story.
Also, I had no clue Weezer's Butterfly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZZhs33MRKI) song was about Madame Butterfly. Probably cause I never knew the story either, but I guess it would be obvious for most people that are familar familiar with the play since Weezer's album title is "Pinkerton" - which is of of the main characters last name.
Ever since I saw the Final Fantasy symphony with the Opera that came here in Atlanta recently I've been wanting to see a full Opera and man it did not disappoint. Such a sad, but nice story.
Also, I had no clue Weezer's Butterfly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZZhs33MRKI) song was about Madame Butterfly. Probably cause I never knew the story either, but I guess it would be obvious for most people that are familar with the play since Weezer's album title is "Pinkerton" - which is of of the main characters last name.
That's really cool. I'm not into opera's or musicals at all really, but I've always been interested in Madame Butterfly. I would go see that in a heartbeat.
Heh, I saw that as well, again encouraged by the same symphony. Not exactly my kind of story but I enjoyed it nonetheless. One of the people I went with didn't consider it an opera because "it didn't have enough props".  :serpico:
Nice! Yeah, I enjoyed it a lot. I actually been going to that symphony hall almost every weekend and based on those performances I kind of thought they wouldn't do as much acting as they did. The other performances was just the local symphony plus other people on stage singing. So it no doubt was a treat - who needs props? pfft!
That's really cool. I'm not into opera's or musicals at all really, but I've always been interested in Madame Butterfly. I would go see that in a heartbeat.
I'd google madame butterfly and your zip code to see there is one coming this year near you. They've been on tour. I know you're not really into this sorta stuff but I'd look up local symphony halls near you and check out their event lists for similar stuff - you might like some. Mine has great classical music they play over weekend.
My favorite crabcore band is ARM CANNON (http://www.myspace.com/armcannon/music/songs/galaxy-man-56506721), and after listening to that I already feel like I went to this year's Warped Tour. Actually, true story, I just had to check my t-shirt collection to see the last time I went to Warped Tour, and... 2001. Anyone remember the The Distillers? I think the highlight for me was the Vandals, though there were some pretty good acts there (way better than this year's lineup :iva:).
Anyway, I'm a bitter old man, and speaking of which, I celebrated my birthday this weekend with a pool party BBQ/poker night and got way too drunk. The highlight though might have been the evening prior when I went to my favorite little French Bistro in Westwood: Soleil. I had my usual off-menu filet mignon, medium rare, with peppercorn cream sauce and a glass of Vestini Rose, a white wine from Italy. Orgasmic.
Also, be sure to check out their surprisingly cool website, it's worth seeing regardless:
Going to see Sublime and 311 on Saturday. Hopefully I have more fun than I did at warped where a massive downpour of hail and ice completely ruined the set of the main band I wanted to see (and the whole day really). It was like 85 degrees too, I swear only me.
Is the new guy in Sublime any good? I've heard their new song and seen a few videos of him singing a few of their old songs, but it feels a little weird.
For years, Bud and Eric were main members of The Long Beach Dub All Stars.. but I guess they got sick of that.
Went to Vegas.    :griffnotevil:  Had fun, saw a lot, won a little, lost a little.  Ended up holding on to enough winnings to cover what I spent while I was there, so that was cool.  Got to play at a blackjack table for a couple hours & broke even, which was a lot of fun.  It made me feel like I did a Real Las Vegas Thing, even though I'm a low-roller.  Amusing free shows attended:  Wang Chung and Vanilla Ice.  Everyone cheered loudest for the Turtle Rap.  Vanilla's stage technique was "constantly fling water out of bottles at people and then fling the empties at them."  It was hot enough there to be agreeable to the crowd.  As a Florida girl, I found the weather there pretty pleasant in general.  Awesome view of the canyons on the flight out, too.
Ya, should be: SSFIV, MVC3, MK9, BlazBlue CS, Tekken 6. They got two streams setup to cast a good bit of the games. Teamspooky (if you follow the scene) is on stream 1. And Stream 2 they already did the MK pools but will have the finals tomorrow.
I'll find the link somewhere with the game list but pretty sure that is right.
I saw stand up comedian Brian Reagan last night, who was absolutely killed. He was already one of my favorite comedians but to see him live was so great. And his humor is all clean too so I was able to bring me parents along and enjoy it as a family daww. Seriously though, I had hysterics.
Needless to say, I bought tickets for Louie C. K. next week.
My girlfriend and I drove to The Gorge Amphitheater in Quincy, WA to see Soundgarden play. It was a really great concert and was preceded by some pretty decent bands: Meat Puppets, Mastodon and Queens of the Stone Age. Queens was pretty damn good, but Soundgarden stole the show, as they were meant to. Chris Cornell sounded great and Kim Thayil played some mean guitar. It was a lot of fun and well worth the drive.
Out of curiosity, why'd you visit Atlanta? I don't feel like there's anything here personally.
Though I would've suggested visiting Little Five Points and eating at the Vortex while you were here, that's usually where I head to when I go into the city.
Thanks for the recommendation, however it's a little too late hehe cos I'm already back in NYC and at work >_<' (clearing over 600 emails). I flew out yesterday afternoon from ATL.
I was only going to do Tennessee for 2 days (Tues-Thurs) but my cousin drove down from Toronto (CA) and since Atlanta is just 4 hours away from TN, they looped that in and booked 2 rooms in Atlanta. Gave me the chance to take a bit of an extended break, my first in 2 and a half years. For me it was just an excuse to be away from the office. I had fun at the Coca Cola museum, their 4D show was cool. Plus I bumped into Chase Crawford (from Gossip Girl) in my hotel's lobby which was also cool haha, wait, definitely super cool to meet up with Turkitage as well. I've gotta do it again.
It is an extremely weird feeling not having power for several days. I remember a few years ago, we had a really bad winter here in the Pacific Northwest, and I was without power for a week. I couldn't even leave my apartment by car, because there were power lines down all over the place. Thank God there was a grocery store within walking distance.
Hang in there, man! Glad you made it through the worst of it.
At the beginning of the year I was without power for 3 days, and it was great. I read volume 2 and 3 by candlelight before going to bed. The atmosphere was really enhanced and the battle against the Snail Baron was particularly spooky. Before sleeping, I'd blow my candles out like in the medieval times. Great memories  :serpico:
This weekend I ran off to Syracuse to hang out with a couple I've known through the interwebs since 04. Picking apples, apple wine tasting, grilling pork ribs, watched Thor n Bridesmaids, discussing manga (Berserk, Vagabond, One Piece, introducing them to JoJo), chilled outside in the sun when the temp was around 40something F was pretty much what I ended up doing. It was a quick getaway from the city's hustle-n-bustle for my birthday, bad cellular reception was in my favor.
Last weekend was fun - took the train to get to Philly straight after work on Friday and met up with 2 pals from Wisconsin. Stayed the night at a hotel and did a bit of Phillyness on Saturday before hopping on a Greyhound late at night. We hit up the Mutter museum, Pat's philly cheesesteaks, Geno's philly cheesesteaks, Jim's philly cheesesteaks and about 4 different record stores. Picked up some cds/ vinyl for my friends and just a few cds for meself.
This coming weekend, I think Malignancy's playing at St. Vitus which's a really cool venue in Brooklyn, so I might go for it unless I chicken out from massive shyness. I missed out on a Disma, Drawn & Quartered, Mortal Decay show on Saturday ... ugh x_x'
Got back about an hour ago from a Ghoul and Gwar show. First time seeing both bands live, man, Ghoul were OK (I was a lot familiar with their music, never heard Gwar or saw videos of them). Gwar were amazing live ... boy oh boy! They played for over an hour, the pit was insane (tired me out, it wasn't like a typical mosh-pit circle - more like all these people clamped together pushing each other with no space to run around heh cos it was packed), helped a bud crowd surf 3 times, SO much fun!
Pic of me and a pal whose glasses were trampled on and broken : /
So I told you guys I had that heart ablation done.  It didn't work out the first time around.  Last weekend I had another one done.  This time I had it done where the procedure was developed, fortunately the facility was in the same state.  My tachycardia was getting really bad.  I've been suffering from chronic atrial tachycardia for over a year.  My heart would race around 200 BPM on average.  My heart just kept going faster and faster to compensate for missed beats.  I was completely miserable.  I ended up going so fast at one point that I was defibbed multiple times and put in the ICU.  It was very scary.
The second ablation lasted about 4 hours.  I was awake for the whole procedure, minus the last part of it.  I woke up with a normal heart rate.  I can't describe to you guys how wonderful it is.  My normal heart rate is now 70 on average.  I measure it all the time because I can't believe it.  I've still got a lot of fighting to do to get stronger, but my life has gotten so much better after this surgery.  I wanted to tell you about it because it's a happy ending after a lot of bad times.  Thanksgiving this year was extra special.  I've got my life back, and I'm just so thankful to be alive.
Aphasia, so glad to hear that your procedure went over so well. You must be very brave to have undergone it, and some of it awake. But I'm also sure you understood it needed to be done. That you feel so good about it only passes to me, man. What joyful news.
I went to a very underwhelming performance of Trans Siberian Orchestra.
We were front row, and the crowd just wasn't feeling it. The performers came to the front of the stage and were literally right in front of my fiance and I. They were playing their instruments and staring at us trying to get us into the swing of things. It was seriously the most awkward moment of my life. And then the female singers were god awful. Luckily, the second half of the show was...less involved with the audience, and hardly any singing. It more than made up for the lame first half with the confusing story telling.
Also, this super fat lady next to me was dipping her popcorn in cheese dip (she had three containers). Just thought I'd share that.
Last weekend a Time Warner personnel was home because I've been having problems with my modem. I upgraded my connection to a 50 mbps one since October and off late the modem was spazzing out on me, booting/ switching off on it's own. He checked my electrical outlet and it wasn't grounded so I have an electrician scheduled to come in today. But yeah, the fun started when he was amazed at Guts' 20th Anni statue and asked if I could put in on my couch so he could take pictures of it. I was assembling some IKEA light strips that morning, so he put a strip, lit in red, at the back of the base and was taking pictures on his phone with that sort of light effect. It was cool! His favorites were SK On Horse 2011, Guts 20th Anni Black, Zodd III, Armored Berserk, Zodd Senma and Black Swordsman: Lost Children.
Some time today I plan to finish picking up presents, without forgetting to get gift-wrapping paper (like last year and the year before and the year before that too *fail*).
Tonight I'm going to the World War 3 tour to see Asking Alexandria, We Came As Romans, Drugs and a few other bands I don't care about. Should be fun!
I forgot to follow up on this. The show was lame for the most part because the band I really wanted to see sucked. The lead singer for Asking Alexandria came out and basically put the minimal amount of effort in. His voice was bad and he looked pudgy and just had no energy. Compared to that Drugs (who I've seen three times now) had insane energy. First thing Craig Owens did was jump right into the crowd. The best part was during an instrumental part I just happened to turn around and see Craig Owens walking right up behind me. He walked by and I patted him on the back and said good show and he hopped back up on stage. I thought it was so cool that he walks around in the crowd, you can tell he's all about the fans. The guy from AA is just a douche.
Edit- Went to the Boston Bruins game on saturday. It was such a hyped up game because it's the only time that the Bruins would play Vancouver since beating them in seven games for the Stanley Cup. Unfortunately the Bruins lost, mainly due to the massive penalties. It was 5 on 4 or 5 on 3 the whole game. Vancouver played the ref's basically. Extremely aggravating. Boston was playing very rough and I managed to get this pic as fights broke out.
Saturday - woke up late, cooked lunch, went out in the evening for a birthday party, got home late and played Tekken 6 (multi-player with a board member) which was a lotta fun. Sunday - cleaned, picked up 3 more games from GameStop (Skyrim for my brother), cooked lunch n dinner, watched + completed Game Of Thrones season 1. Was feeling under the weather on Sunday because of the alcohol from the prior night, I'm guessing. Sometime this week I'll un-box 2 statues I've been holding on to.
BUMP.
Tomorrow I'm going to start my day early at 5 AM, rent a car to drive up to Mt. Greylock which's the highest natural point in MA. It's a 3 hour drive away from me. Probably climb up using the Thunderbolt trail which is steep yet the quickest way to reach the top. I wonder if there's snow on the mountain but I'll carry my boots (tie em on my backpack just in case). If anyone wants to join and doesn't mind missing SuperBowl, PM me and we can meet up along the way or at the summit, etc. I'm not much of a hiker, this'll be my 9th hike only. I plan to change that this year.
I'm originally from Arizona too... Scottsdale. :) But I've been living in Yokohama, Japan since 2004. I still go back to visit once a year or so, though.
To answer the topic's question... last night (Saturday), I saw the Berserk movie for the second time! Also went to yoga class and had Mexican food for dinner, and bought a new case for my iPhone. All in all, it was a pretty good day.  :guts:
Missed seeing this post! That looks great Branded and high. How long did it take and how was the trail (steep?)?
I was hoping to slow down this weekend but it didn't happen. Caturday I came in to work and then escaped a bunch of retard drunks on my way back on the subway because of St. Patty's. Hit up an Indonesian place for dinner in the evening and it was freakin delicious, pigged out on everything I shouldn't have ha ha ha. Couldn't sleep because I'm kinda still getting used to the time zone here. Was at a friend's birthday all day Sunday and that's how my weekend zipped by.
Just got home from a party, that wasn't even lasted an hour. I was in the backyard and an argument kept getting louder from the front yard. It was the cops fighting some of the guys that were in the front and made their way all the way back. Most of them were relatives, so the women went after the cops, everyone close to the chaos got pepper sprayed. There was at least 20 cops, some coming through the side gates of the house, the helicopter was called in. Some dudes were beaten up real bad since they resisted the cops and were trying to fight them. Fucking idiots ruined my good time, I was even riding the mechanical bull.
Ouch Branded, was the incident later shown on TV? I've never ridden a mechanic bull ... is it easy? I was at my colleague's baby shower last night and was kinda alone, so I pretty much sat in a corner the whole time heh. Overall, I had a good time. Doing lunch with a pal this afternoon and do some laundry after.
I don't think it was shown on tv, there were no reporters there. It's easy while the bull is going slow, but there's someone controlling it, so that person can change speed and spin as he/she pleases.
Worked all day yesterday and hit up Brooklyn to see Ulcerate from NZ. Scart Crown (FR) and Tombs opened for em, both were MEH. I love the 3 Ulcerate albums they've put out and didn't expect a lot from them live, being my first time seeing them. They were unbelievably tight, spot on, technical and created diamonds the size of mountains (in terms of expectations), OK!? Jamie's drumming was goose~bumpworthy (here's a link to an older show - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh_9sJ2KoXw&feature=relmfu)
Onward to Meshuggah just 3 nights away. C.A.N.N.O.T. .W.A.I.T.
The band posted this on their page "We had our van broken into in New York last night at our accom. We've lost all our guitar gear (preamps, effects units), some drum equipment, stage banner and all of Svart Crown's merch was also ripped off. We're going to keep going but this is a fucking terrible start. We had phenomenal shows in Philadelphia and NYC last night so this is an absolute kick in the fucking teeth." Expensive equipment, totally sucks.
Another day in the office for me.
Watched the Thunder put the Lakers to shame in the last few minutes of the fourth quarter.
Unfortunately, I watched that too. Worse, I actually saw it coming, just like I did in game 2 (of course, I always assume that's going to happen, but you can see why). Same old story, Kobe way too aggressive, Pau not enough, and everyone else lost in the shuffle (God forbid we just throw it down low with a 13 point lead). You'd think such an experienced team would have sense enough to slow down and stop the bleeding, but the Lakers were prone to this even when they were a championship caliber team. I didn't actually expect the Lakers to win this series, but the fact that they could've gone up 3-1, should have really, just makes it all the more disappointing. Now I almost expect them to get blown out in Game 5, because this odd team of mine, when they're not winning rings, knows when to quit, as evidenced by the fact those championships were sandwiched between two 30+ point blowout road losses to Boston and Dallas, respectively (it's a good club to join, those other two teams also won the whole thing). They're not the type of team to fight back in vain just to make the score look respectable or so they can lose in game 6 or 7, like the Nuggets last round, and so many lesser teams the Lakers ultimately put out of their misery (I almost think they have contempt for that sort of effort, "We're better, go away"). Now it's time for the Thunder to be that better team and put us out of ours.
It was awesome to see the looks of disappointment on the Lakers fans' faces.
I might take back that Harden sig. And I would have liked to have seen your face at halftime, right after Westbrook went down. At first I was glad he was okay because he's a UCLA guy and you just don't want to see that sort of thing. By the end of the third quarter though I was thinking, "Couldn't he have at least tweaked his groin or something?"
Yeah, I agree with you. Honestly, I'm a little surprised they haven't pulled the shit that they pulled last year (Odom and Bynum). I'm watching Game 5 right now, and I can tell that Artest and Bryant are really getting pissed. All of their main players have 2 or more personals, so this game is about to go downhill.
Actually, as I'm typing this, Artest and Bryant both received technical fouls within 10 seconds of each other. Wow.
I didn't come into the game until roundabout the last three minutes (when KP rebounded and got his 2 points of the game), so the whole premature heartbreak would have been lost on me.
One thing that bothered me about that game was the maintenance that was provided. So many of the players were slip-sliding around. I really think they should have called the game because, man, that shit just wasn't safe to begin with. Either that, or they should have just taken the Clippers out of the series. Because, honestly, they didn't even need to be there. Once we beat LA, we'll be going against the Spurs (the only team that really worries me). Hopefully, they'll be a little winded...but really there's no telling.
At least they only embarrassed themselves at basketball this time. Actually, this Laker team overachieved on that front. I didn't think they could even compete with the Thunder, but the toll that and the season took on them showed in those 4th quarters when they just couldn't stop them anymore. Like Dallas, the Lakers had to fight tooth and nail to get in that position, but the Thunder won anyway because they just had to play their game.
I didn't come into the game until roundabout the last three minutes (when KP rebounded and got his 2 points of the game), so the whole premature heartbreak would have been lost on me.
Big fan. I'll PM you to celebrate if they win the championship. :carcus:
Just don't shoot anybody! (http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2012/story/_/id/7958293/gunshots-fired-following-oklahoma-city-thunder-game-8-injured) Damn, OKC even showed us up in riotous celebration. That's a low blow.
I was thinking the same thing, "Do we really want to see Kobe's career end on account of a wet floor?"
Yeah, we'll see how playing their game works against the Spurs. OKC seemed a bit too happy to beat the Mike Brown Lakers, since they've already been to the Conference Finals before (I guess it's a compliment =). That the Thunder could have really gone down 1-3 to this old Laker team isn't a good sign either, but the fact that they managed to win at the end of all these close games sure is. I don't see this Spurs team being so generous about giving games away though, not with Popovich at the helm (I hope old sourpuss Perkins has been practicing his free throws and temper-tantrums). I don't really care which team wins, part of me wants to see Fisher and the likable Thunder win one (and probably more, add championship confidence to that young talent and watch out), but I wouldn't mind seeing our old rivals the Spurs win another one for the old guys, even if it means Duncan ties Kobe in rings (we usually beat them head to head anyway =). I'm just counting on whoever comes out of the West to please, please put down whoever comes out of the East. If mortal enemy Boston gets another championship ahead of us or the contemptible Heat win it won't be a good summer.
Agreed. The Spurs are definitely saddling up to be the champs. KD even said the Spurs would be a tough victory. But, after last night's performance, it really showed how much of a team game the Thunder actually play. Westbrook was hogging the ball for a bit, but he had a good amount of field goals actually scored. Ibaka, Sefalohsa, and Perkins all did what they needed to do, as did Collison and Harden once they came off the bench. It was definitely a wonderful game to watch. We could have shut them out completely (and we almost did), but I think our team was just tired going out to LA that first time around. After that, though, we picked it up.
All in all, I'm pretty sure Fisher is going to retire after this season. He's the oldest on the team, so hopefully he'll get his final championship under his belt. Also, Maynor will be back next year...so we'll have the team together again=)
It's going to be great, this Spurs team is basically the ideal of basketball and go ten deep, and the Thunder seemingly have limitless potential, it's like two unstoppable forces meeting. The Spurs are physically vulnerable to injury, and the Thunder mentally, as you said they could have swept the Lakers, but also could've really blown it.
All in all, I'm pretty sure Fisher is going to retire after this season. He's the oldest on the team, so hopefully he'll get his final championship under his belt. Also, Maynor will be back next year...so we'll have the team together again=)
Are you kidding? Fisher knows the best time to sign a new contract is after winning a championship. =)
BTW, you didn't see, but it was a Fisher 3 that started that rally to kill the Lakers 13 point 4th quarter lead. :judo:
It's been hell at work the past few weeks with working on weekends, etc. but I took a breather this weekend because a cousin was visiting me. So we did a bit of touristy stuff - Brooklyn bridge, Chinatown, watched Memphis - the Broadway play, Little Italy, Wall Street, 9/11 Memorial, Union Square, Macy's from the outside only though, Times Square by day and by night, Apple store at 5h Ave, Grand Central station, Chelsea Market, Central Park only a bit of, Rockefeller Center's Observation Deck for a view of the skyline. There's still a bunch to check out but maybe next time. Below are pictures of the view from both sides of the observation deck and of the Broadway stage, terrible seats.
I went for MartyrdooM which was AWESOME. It's 5:30 AM, bright outside, my ears are still ringing from the show and I'm gonna watch another movie cos I can't sleep heh. I promised myself not to buy any more band tees cos they're usually all black but I couldn't help myself man, picked up 3 tees for Dead Congregation, 3 for Perdition Temple and an Evoken one. Watched Evoken play a song (one of my favorite Doom bands) and then hopped to the side venue to watch the full Perdition Temple set - brought a big smile to my face, so fast and Angel Corpse~y, brilliant, pissed-off and just as they sound on CD. Encoffination were boring, hopped to the side to check out Grave Miasma - they had some crowd I'll admit but they're boring to me. Grabbed a slice of pizza at around 10:30 and headed back to see a bit of Anu, decent Blackmetal. We'd missed Cruciamentum though, oh well. Stood right in front of the vocalist for Dead Congregation and witnessed such a cool set. They're playing at another venue this evening and I might go. Right after they finished, hopped over to see the last band just for a bit - theatrics galore wearing gas masks and the red+black cloth scrolls hinted a NS vibe. Half a song into their set, we left. I skipped Sanguis Imperium and Father Befouled cos they're both meh.
Evoken
Vocalist of Dead Congregation
I hurt the left side of my ribs cos I got pushed suddenly n the stage hit em. Yeah! Took a picture with the Guitarist/ Vocalist for Evoken but I look SO lame.
Cool. I've never really liked concerts in general and now I just don't go. The crowd, noise, and smell just bother me way too much to enjoy. Would much rather have a recorded DVD of the concert personally.
I went camping, expected not to like it - and I didn't.
I hear you. I didn't go to the other show yesterday because I was exhausted from this one and was too lazy heh. Of course the crowd and other things come hand in hand with shows, doesn't matter if it's a bigger or smaller venue. This venue had A/C's so there weren't a lot of people sweating. Like, it's disgusting to walk through a section smelling of people smoking weed. Depends though, I love watching bands live. Sometimes they sound a lot better than on CD or they'd outright suck.
In the process of moving (not far, but a bigger place). That in combination with the chaos in Maryland as a result of the storm+power outages+heat wave made things just completely insane. Like I told a cop I happened to encounter, this was a small taste of the end of the world, and he nodded and laughed.
Won't have dedicated Internet at the new place for a few days so I won't be around here much. But hey, no Berserk this Friday anyway. Keep the lights running, guys! :guts:
Tell me about it! This was my first official county fair, but I used to go to the Santa Cruz boardwalk all the time as a kid, which was very similar. I think part of the magic was having no concept of money at the time. :judo: You wouldn't realize it just by looking, but these county fairs are kinda expensive.
Cool pictures Gobs n Grail (saw them yesterday), that one difficult to take picture - on the ride - looked pretty cool. Any of you scared of heights? I've always wanted to check that sort of ride out but I'm scared it would last tooo long resulting in dizziness (and I'm scared of heights to top it).
I was slightly disappointed I didn't see a picture with crusty lookin people.
Seconded :p
Caturday - unboxed 2 statues, cleaned up the apartment a bit, went frame-shopping, watched a few movies at home. Headed out to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey in the theater yesterday and biked in the morning.
I've actually got a big problem with heights. To be honest, I tried the spinning swing ride mostly because Gobs wanted to do it. I can tell you that it was really uncomfortable at first, but after the first few minutes (when I realized that I wasn't going to go hurtling into a hot dog stand) it was kinda relaxing. Doesn't mean you'll catch me getting in line for the ferris wheel, though! :ganishka:
Those high Ferris Wheel's scare the shit outta me. So weekend was a mix bag -
Caturday - came in to work with a fever.
Sunday - hit up Splish Splash, my first time in a water themed park. Apart from 1 scary ride, I was dragged to all the others and was scared on something called Alien Invasion and Dragon something. My favorite rides were the Lazy River (I chilled on this twice because you're just randomly drifting very slowly) and the Wave Pool.
I still have a fever, yaay!
I went to some Wii U Experience thing in Atlanta. Friend had an invite only pass an a couple guess passes so I went with him. Wii U wasn't too bad and I can definitely see the system as, yet again, another party system. We played all the games they had there, some were cool concepts like Rayman where one person controls rayman and the other controls some.. um bug/fairy thing (I've never played a Rayman before). It was like a sonic/tails feel where I had a regular d-pad running through levels while my friend had that Wii controller and he would be looking at that screen to do specific things to help me advance - kinda cool. Some games were more forced and it seemed you spent way too much time flipping back and forth between the TV screen and the Wii screen like batman arkham City. Like in that game you had to constantly go to your Wii screen, hit a bunch of buttons for "bat gadgets" to solve puzzles. It seemed too forced and just boring, oh well. So just like the original Wii, light and fun games work real well with this system.
Oh and, here is a pic of me as Mario!
Last weekend I saw the Summerland concert featuring all those 90's bands that had a few hits here and there. I saw Marcy's Playground (Sex & Candy), Lit, Sugar Ray, Everclear and the only band i really cared about, the Gin Blossoms, who were phenomenal. It was a good time too since the tickets were free, although I spent $80 on beer so I didn't really make out that well.
Update - Just got back from seeing Bill Maher  :guts: Phenomenal show. Just what I needed to hold me over until his show is back on the air. I was very close and center too. The lights on the stage made the few pictures I took so blurry that they are pretty useless though.
Woke up late on Saturday and headed off to Brooklyn. Hit up The Guru Burger and had an Ostrich Burger. Headed over to the Brooklyn Brewery with my pal from Wisconsin and had 2 beers. The night before I had 3 beers, so within 24 hours I'd had 5 beers, a first for a non-beer drinker me. I guess this's what peer-pressure's all about! Had to check in at work for 2 hours. Headed to Manhattan Upright Citizens Brigade Theater for an improv comedy show, ran off to Lincoln Center to try and watch TDKR. Got there an hour early and it was sold out, so we watched the new Bourne movie. Close to 2 AM we hit up a Halal Cart guy for some dinner. Sunday was a bit less chaotic - grabbed lunch, checked out the Bodies Exhibition, strolled around the South Street Seaport and the boardwalk all the way up to the tip of Manhattan. Cabbed it over to Katz' Deli for arguably the best Pastrami sammich in NYC. Ran over to the Empire State for sunset but the line was massive, ditched that. Headed home and watched Rambo 4 (he'd not seen it) and Alien vs Predator Requiem (I hadn't seen it).
So I went on a couples date with some friends to Magooby's Joke House in Baltimore county. The act for the night was... Eddie Griffin! You guys may remember the dude as that black guy in Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo.
So Eddie's show was suppose to run for about an hour and a half, but instead it went to 2am. In my opinion (which doesn't really need to be said since most of you guys probably already assume it), Eddie's jokes were mediocre from the start. It dragged on and he had a lot more misses than hits (I only laughed at like two of his jokes). What saved his show was that Eddie turned it into a complete train-wreck by 11:30, he started pouring booze onto the stage in 'honor' of all his friends who didn't make it (He specifically name dropped: Bernie Mac, Tupac Shakur, and Micheal Jackson). After Eddie finished doing his name dropping, he started ranting about small dicks, anorexic women, fat people, and the people who hate his movies. Pretty much the style of comedy you would expect from a comedian who went from doing 'movies' [see above] to Magooby's Joke House in Baltimore County on a Friday night (which he decided to rudely poke fun at).
I probably will make sure I never see Eddie again. The guy is a pretty bad comedian, which makes sense when you consider he was doing improv all night long (and horribly failing at it).
Couldn't place the actor by his name, so looked him up and recognize him. Wow, that sounds like a disaster VHB, kudos to staying till the end of his set. Did a lotta people leave half-way through or stick till the end?
Last night I was at an underground old school trance show, my first. I like older trance from the 90's and missed last year's event. So anyway, a friend and I got there at about 00:30 in the morning and watched two and a half acts till 4 something AM before leaving, just got very tiring and that room filled of cigarette smoke was headache inducing. It was cool to see the 3rd and headlining DJ use 2 Technics Mk series turntables, unlike working on laptops like the other guys.
Luke Hess's set was the best of the night, played a more accessible, danceworthy set that the crowd really liked, he's from Detroit.
(http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee500/Piraancantation/E1_zps1450aa24.jpg)
Greece's Fluxion's set was 30 minutes longer and thank god cos it really got good in the end. The floor cleared during his set cos it wasn't as accessible but I liked it a lot, as my pal said - it was very meditative~ish towards the beginning.
(http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee500/Piraancantation/E2_zps12d3a2e5.jpg)
Couldn't stay for Kenneth Christiansen's full set cos we were pretty tired and it was ... late. Oh well, the crowd kinda got back to watch this and seemed to feel it a lot more than Fluxion's set. Majority of the crowd was also very click~y not necessarily dancing to good music.
Oh it was! It's pretty bad that this guy went from "number 62 on Comedy Central's list of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Griffin) to drunkenly pounding his fists against a wall while screaming. Did I mention that he disclosed that 2 out of 3 of his ex-wifes are addicted to meth? Because he told a room full of strangers this while he was shit faced drunk.
Yes! Over half of the audience left before Griffin decided to stop.
Yeah, his career is a real shame.  I still remember him in his prime with the Voodoo Child sketch.  Ever since it's been a horrible thing to witness.  Oh well... Comedy shows tend to be hit or miss.
Nice!  Trance got bombarded from mediocre to bad after the 90's.  Between that and deep house, used to be my mayor companions in my DJ days.  And I fully agree with the MK2's statement.  I recently went to a major club in DT Chicago, and I couldn't help myself but laugh at some of these so-called DJ's using software to pretty much... Well... Do everything for them.  It's a sad thing to witness, but it separates the men from the boys I guess.  Clearly on that last adventure, I realize just how old I've become to say the least  :SK:.  But I'm glad you had a good time.  The underdogs stealing the crowd from a headliner is always fun to watch.
Aww sweet, Nomad! Didn't know you DJ'd ^_^. I agree with everything you say above about the lack of substance or effort when you play something off a laptop versus the so to speak 'real deal' of using turntables. Please, feel free to hit up recommendations on local DJ's or international acts that you like, heck link me to some of your tunes!
Right now I'm at work. Tomorrow I'll be at work.
Last night I went to see Dehumanized, Malignancy and Devourment play at The Place, weird name of a venue - "Hey are you going to the show tonight?" "Oh yeah, it's at the uhhmm at The Place" "What's the name of the place?" "It's THE PLACE", my head hurts aka lack of humor as you can see. But it was awesome. My first time seeing Dehumanized and Devourment. So we missed the first 2 bands, don't even know who played and caught Dehumanized's set, super slammy, got the crowd going good. The Place was HOT as hell inside, so we took off our jackets, pain to hold when you're fending other people from pushing/ hitting/ kicking/ pulling you. So anyway, next up was Malignancy - tight set, love watching them live. And then came Devourment who I was dying to watch. Been about a year or two since I got into the band and I'd seen too many videos of Babykiller online (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGQxYcXY8SQ) anticipating the day I'd see them face to face and last night was just that. Amazing experience and they played Conceived In Sewage which is actually my ring tone so I took a video of the opening riff and when the Slam part came on, you can hear me/ everyone else scream and the place went nuts right after. Managed to take a video before it got brutal out there haha - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=foRF5p9J1ms
Ugh, back to work.
My sympathies, man. No wonder your boss gave you an iPad, he must be guilty for working you so hard!
Nowruz is coming up this Wednesday, so I helped my aunt set up a Haft Sin at my grandma's house (I was gonna try to do one at my house this year, but ran out of time... :judo: ). Anyway, here is how it looks so far:
Still gotta add an apple and get the grass out front, but it's not done growing.
Afterwards, I went and checked out the Dutch exhibit at the de Young Museum in SF, which turned out really nicely because it was such a nice day outside!
I got to see some badass engravings and the Girl with the Pearl Earring. What a trip! :ubik:
That's such a gorgeous table setting, Grail. Navroz Mubarak to you and the family! I asked my parents to take a picture of the table they set at home. I've been busy with work this year, didn't get the time to set anything up (I sure wanted to *sigh*). The part I miss the most of sitting down to eat throughout the day at different times, with whoever is visiting. So I'd explain to them "This is what you do ... blah blah and this means this or that." and pick up a plate for myself while I was at it =p
In other news I went to see the new Evil Dead... maybe that needs a new topic though.  I will say that it was enjoyable, bloody as hell, but was missing the humor and charm of the originals.
I also took my daughter to the zoo.  She touched a horseshoe crab and went eeeeew
Remember seeing a dead horseshoe crab 2 years ago on the beach on new years eve, it looked eerie and supa~scary =_=. Your daughter was pretty adventurous.
Saturday morning, took the 9:44 train uptown to hike up Mount Taurus or Bull Mountain. We got there around 11 and started the climb, I'd say moderately strenuous. Took about 5/6 half minute breaks to take a picture and carry on, goal was to be on the move constantly. 4 hours in, we sat down for 5 mins, ate half of my sammich : p and we continued with the descent. We made decent time considering it was the first hike of the year, covered about 6 miles and took the 4:44 train back to the city. Started with the white trail, then yellow, green, yellow again.
Sunday we planned to walk across George Washington Bridge and walk/ hike along the path leading up to the Palisades. About 7 miles and mellow and pretty scenic. Started around 11:15 cos I slept 10 hours straight from Saturday's hike, we got done by 5:30/ 45 I think with a 30 minute break give n take.
Last Thursday i went to the 2013 Vans Warped tour and had a blast. It was down pouring for the first hour and forecasts showed thunderstorms all day but it cleared up quick (i even got sunburned). My buddys and I literally ran around all day to catch our favorite bands but there were so many we actually had to miss a few. I did, however, get to see the full sets of  Oh Sleeper, Silverstein, Letlive (best live performance i've ever seen) Chiodos, The Used, August Burns Red, I See Stars and more. I had so much fun.
Aaaand this Saturday I get to see Chelsea Grin, Veil Of Maya, Everytime I Die and tons more on this summers All Stars tour and Rob Zombie and all the bands on Mayhem Fest on Sunday. I'm already thinking of what sickness I'll use to call out of work Monday.
Even though it was a couple weekends ago, my Civil War Reenacting group flew from Oregon to Pennsylvania for the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. We had 10,000+ reenactors and around 200,000 spectators during the event. It was an incredible experience as we were not only able to tour the actual Gettysburg battlefield, but we stopped by Antietam as well for a day. This was my second big reenactment, my first was Shiloh last year, but we plan to at least participate in one more 150th event.
I'm on the bottom right holding the sign.
Thanks! It was the culmination of nearly a year's worth of planning. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into this wedding. Ultimately, it was a night I will never forget and I'm so lucky to have married a woman of Emi's calibre.
We're aiming to have kids in ~4 years. So hopefully from now until then, we will able to enjoy the fruits life have to offer. Heading to Japan on the 5th. Eagerly awaiting shopping in Akihabara.  I was trying to make a good impression the first time I went and kept my geekdom under tight wraps.
Now, it's time to get my Nippon Shopping On.  :daiba:
Holy hell though. Having wedding pictures taken in Times Square is quite terrifying. Not only is your photographer taking pictures of you, but so are 200 other strangers... I will say, it made our 'surprise' first dance less of an issue for me.
Finally got to go and watch some tennis in the flesh at the US Open. Love the sport, following it since I was a kid. Got tickets thanks to DirectDK. Went on Saturday, early around 10, got to see full matches for Kirilenko vs Halep and Azarenka vs Cornet. We got to see Azarenka and Cornet practice before their games too. Last few games of the Hantuchova game, she won and DK got an autographed tennis ball from her. Caught the last game of Nadal's match where he won at Ashe and stayed for the Williams sisters doubles match, only stayed for the first set cos it was boring. Watched the last few games of a very lively Isner vs Kohlshreiber match, the crowd was insane. Isner lost, we stayed for the first set of Rodredo's match and left around 9 I think. Hope to go again, good fun. I didn't take many pictures unfortunately ...
Any tennis fans on SK?
I like both playing and watching tennis. I've been following the US Open as much as possible (the time difference complicates things on weekdays). The most recent matches I watched were Wawrinka vs Djokovic, Nadal vs Gasquet and Williams vs Na. I was rooting for Wawrinka on his semifinal but he just couldn't close it. Tomorrow's final will be a good match and I think Nadal will win.
Nice man! Yeah, I was rooting for Wawrinka on that semi and he lost =_= ... I also wanted Gasquet to beat Nadal and that didn't happen ... then yesterday I was rooting for Azarenka but Serena won. Today I'm going to try not to think about who I want to win, it'll be hard heh.
Yeah, I'll catch some commentary at work and hit up a sports bar in the city to catch the rest of it so I don't miss out on a lot. Getting home from work takes me about an hour door-to-door.
I *would* be spending my weekend at the Connichi 2013 now...
http://www.connichi.de/
It's the largest anime convention here in Germany, being held since 2000. The whole crew from Studio Gainax is there this year, even the president.
But from the 3 friends i wanted to go there with, one is currently sick and the other two just bailed out on me at the last moment. "What, its so expensive? Sorry i dont have the money for that" yeah right, but for every other crap they usually throw their money out of the window without hesitation
Hey this sounds pretty cool
Quote
Werdet Teil des Connichi Kurzanimes!
Unser Ehrengast Yasuhiro Irie trat mit einer ungewöhnlichen Bitte an uns heran. Er hätte gerne einen PC und Scanner, sowie einen Ort im Kongresspalais, wo er zeichnen kann.
Selbstverständlich erfüllen wir ihm diesen Wunsch und so könnt ihr auf der Connichi Irie beim Arbeiten über die Schulter schauen im Gang zwischen Festsaal und Blauem Saal. Irie wird während der Connichi zeichen, was er sieht, wen er sieht und am Ende erstellt er eine Kurzanimation.
Our honor guest Yasuhiro Irie approached us with an unusual wish. He would like to have a PC and a scanner, as well as a place in the congress hall, where he can draw.
Of course we granted him this wish and now you can watch Irie over the shoulder at his work in the hallway between ballroom and the blue hall. Irie will be drawing his impressions from the Connichi, and will produce a short animation in the end
Yasuhiro Irie from Studio Sunrise was responsible for key animation in shows like Visions of Escaflowne, Gundam, Cowboy Bebop
Hit up NY Comic Con this weekend for the first time with DK and friends. Friday we checked out the main merch floor. Saturday we holed ourselves up in 1 hall all day (from about 10:20), so we could get closer/ better seats for The Walking Dead panel which began around 6:45 or 7. In doing so, we got to see a Superman 75th anniversary panel and an Agents of Shield one (got to see next week's full episode with nobody recording it on their phones) and oh, the Archer panel which was funny. Had to sit through Teen Wolf (woke us up with crazy loud women screaming or exclaiming "aaauuuuhhh" at about everything). Sunday I got a friend's Zoidberg figure signed by Billy West (voices of Zoidberg, Fry, the Professor, Stimpy from Ren & Stimpy) and met him, saw Gillian Anderson signing while DK waited for Duchovny, can't believe I got to be that close to Mulder and Skully, unbelievable, such a big fan of the show. Checked out more of the merch room and finally the artist's alley, next time I'd like to spend more time at the artist's alley. Overall, good fun. Less anime cosplays than I'm used to seeing at Otakon.
Whoa, I must've missed this post. It sounds like a lot of fun, man! Though, I wasn't expecting Billy West to look so much like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Maybe it's just the angle...  :magni: That guy dressed as Ariel is perfection, though. He even brought a giant dinglehopper!
Yeah, had a blast! That cosplayer's attention to detail was pretty good and humorous, one of the best I saw at the con X'D
Billy was humble and prompted me to take a picture with him. I would've prolly walked away after the signing. You're required to pay extra money if you want a signing and photo but I don't think he had that sort of arrangement. He said "Ohhhh niiiiiiiiice" when he saw the Zoidberg he was signing, supposedly rare cos he's blue (alternate universe). Gillian Anderson was extra cool, she took her time to check everything that came to her for signing and was very involved/ animated talking to fans.
Nice! Great posing too. As for myself I went to a " Dia de los muertos " ( Day if the Dead)festival. Bought some skulls too.
Nice unshaved beard-stache combo Gobs. Colored faces looks like fun Branded and those skulls remind me of the myth about those 13 crystal skulls.
This weekend I was showing a close pal around the city, this was his first visit to the US. In the evening I was hitting up different YT videos and got linked to some X Factor one. I must've watched another 6/7 ones and ... it's goddamn emotional stuff! That show is pure evil :femto:
Knicks vs Grizzlies at MSG this afternoon was a lot of fun, even though the Knicks lost, but it was a well deserved loss. The Grizzlies attacked pretty well and pulled away with a 19 point lead in the 4th but the Knicks swung back ... a bit too late, couldn't close it in the end. They didn't convert their free throws as much as the Grizzlies did. Crowd erupted every time someone from the Knicks dunked the ball or a 3 went in.
Around half time a bloke decided to ask his girl to marry him, she said yes.
Had Monday off this past week, so I hit up Syracuse last weekend. It was going to snow which was major plus cos I've always wanted to shovel. Luckily they got 4/5 inches. It's always interesting when I go to the super Walmart up there, everything's dirt cheap. Watched some new TV shows that I couldn't get into (Once Upon A Time, Haven). Got my friends to check out Louie, Sherlock and somehow we got watching Deathstalker, can't believe it's on Netflix haha (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNB9PdNmWrc). It's pretty bad which makes it so good.
Rough week at work with long hours, slept through most of today and gonna hit up Artificial Brain's show tonight.
It's a little past the weekend, but some of you may be wondering, "hey, did all of those weirdos end up meeting up on the east coast or what?!" The answer is yes!
Thanks to Incantation and Vampire Hunter Bob for travelling a pretty ridiculous amount of time in order to meet up with us on our trip to South Jersey. Our topics of discussion included the new episode, what will happen once they get off the boat, and when the hell everyone is going to catch up with Vagabond. Beers were had, dating advice was given, and the nice lady at the bar took way too many pictures of us because we're all just that vain.
Anyway, I think Gobs and I will have to plan a little farther ahead next time we come out so more folks can join the party! :guts:
Looks like a fun time guys! Glad you got to hang out with more SKers.
I was at Fanime again this weekend. Had a pretty fun time. The highlights as far as Berserk goes was probably the Griffith/Guts cosplay duo I saw that were both pretty good, a Griffith in the Artist Alley who went through the trouble of getting all her armor gear back on for a picture, a Guts cosplayer at the JoJo meetup that I had a good discussion with, and a guy from Cel-Depot.com that I chatted with for quite a while about Berserk, Hunter x Hunter, and Vagabond. He actually knew of this site and he knows DirectDK. Other than that it was a pretty good time just hanging with friends. Missed Gobs and Grail this year but I'm glad they got to meet up with some other folks.
Was pretty awesome hanging out with Bob, Grail and Mr. Skull Knight. You guys went totally outta your way to drop me to the train station too, thank you so much. Apologies I couldn't stay longer! There was so much to discuss be it theories about Berserk or topics being discussed on the board or general things, which reminds me I forgot to take a note of that powdery thingie Grail/Bob specifically asked for, tasted good on my omelette ^_^. I'd be down to do it all over again.
It looks like you had fun at that comic con, Branded! That Joker and that Assassin's Creed(?) cosplay are my favorite. :carcus:
Gobs and I were at a pretty interesting wedding this weekend. The brides, who are friends of mine, happen to be ball-jointed doll enthusiasts, and made it a theme for their wedding. They (and all of their friends) set up all of their doll collections at the back of the reception hall, seemingly to judge me as I ate potato salad and rainbow cake. :sad:
Here are a few shots:
The doll table, early on in the day. It got pretty crowded later.
I really liked these. Pretty cute little guys!
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v92/Grenga/WP_20140622_018_zpsa9bfc094.jpg)
This one gave me the heeby-jeebies.
Overall, it was fun to get an up-close look at a subculture that I normally have no exposure to. The couple seem really into it, but also very into each other, which is the most important thing, isn't it? :casca:
That said, the outdoor ceremony was (very unceremoniously) delayed by about an hour and a half. Gobs and I are now spectacularly crisped. :judo:
Last week, Thursday night I woke up to news of my father's sudden passing. Caught the earliest-quickest flight Friday morning and got home Saturday evening. I missed the funeral, there was nothing I could have done and I'm going to have to live with many other regrets of my own. A lot of firsts. Still in shock over what's happened, it's like a bad nightmare. Today marked the 10th day and met family over a prayer procession this morning. Gonna apply for the renewal of my visa at the Consulate here and hope to be able to take a flight back in 3 weeks.
Congrats John, to you and the family! She looks adorable.
And thanks A LOT everyone on the page before for thinking of me and my family, missed seeing them yesterday (sorry). Got back on SK yesterday, so I have some catching up (reading and listening) to do. I took an additional week off to spend some more time home and flew back this past Sunday. We're getting over the shock slowly and I guess diving into work and our regular lives/ schedules helps in a way. A month whizzed by so quick, it still feels like New Years just happened, I was unwell and watched 2001 A Space Odyssey to bring in the new year. I have some unresolved things I need to figure out from a 'closure' point of view. And I'm going to have to make some hard choices in the next few months to do something with my life. There's immense pressure financially and emotionally in addition to the part of settling down which's something expected of me to take care of soon as well. Also have to sort of choose whether I want to spend the rest of my life away from my mother and brother or move back, none of which is a straight answer but in my mind, I know what needs to be done. There's a practical choice and a selfish one (maybe that's not the right word for it). So, lets see how the next few months hold up!
I was going to watch this at a mutual friends house, but not sure I'm gonna make it later.  It seems the majority share the opinion (myself included) that money will win, but we hope he doesn't. Prob skip it and hope I'm wrong in the morning.  Past their prime status a few years makes this feel like Chuck vs. Silva.
Mayweather may be an asshole, but he must be one of the most talented people to ever walk in the ring.
Tyson is my favorite fighter. I liked him way more when he was working with Kevin Rooney together. He said in an interview that getting older had a serious effect on his style, he couldn't keep up with the speed + head movement he once had (not that all the parties really helped =) )
Can we start a Boxing thread? I didn't know that you guys enjoyed it.
Convention season is upon us. And you know what that means! Dar Klink, Gobs and I had our 4th (mostly) annual Skullknighters West Coast Convention™ !
This time was pretty special, because we had a chance to sit in on the Dark Horse manga panel, hosted by Dark Horse editor Carl Horn. During the panel, Carl went over the history of Dark Horse and the various successful/influential series that the company has published, as well as their upcoming releases for the next few years. I learned some cool stuff, since I'm not much of a comic buff. Here are some interesting tidbits which concerned Berserk:
I think it was shortly after that that we left him to talk to some other guys. While I know I seem like I'm busting his chops, Carl seemed like a genuine guy who wanted to connect with the fans. I understand that he's probably not the expert on what we were hoping to learn more about, so I want to give him the benefit of the doubt...
Anyway, after that we all went crazy shopping, and snagged some sweet merch before my feet gave out and we had to go home. Great trip guys!
  • We went on to chat a little about the Berserk fan community. Carl said that Berserk fans appear to be a pretty mellow bunch.
That's awesome Grail and funny account of how it all went down. Good to see you guys hanging together! I miss those days we'd bump into one another in chat.
  • Carl assured casual Berserk fans everywhere that the future of the series was not likely in danger, and that the release schedule was entirely dependent on Miura. Of course, that is if he's not too busy playing IDOLM@STER, HAW HAW HAWWW!!! I kid you not, he actually said this. It was at this point that Poor Link noticeably flinched, and Gobs nearly choked on his gum. Carl, what the hell? :judo: I believed in you, man!
Ugh, what'll it take for people to stop saying shit like that?! :rickert:
Same! It's too bad that it would be so difficult for other folks from the forum to meet up at a convention like this, the three of us have a lot of fun each year.
Nice, Grail! Glad you guys were able to meet up again. I didn't know you had a SKnet T-shirt. We really should make something like that...
Yeah, Branded designed and printed mine, I wear it a lot! You can bet I would definitely put down some cash for an official model as well. :guts:
As for the "righteous retribution" thing, well, what can I say. I personally didn't attend to the panel with the intention of berating a near-middle-aged Dark Horse representative in front of a bunch of people, and I don't think it would have done a whole lot of good, anyway. He was (from what I saw) a nice guy who made a terribly unprofessional joke about a manga he knows next to nothing about. But yeah, you're probably right, we should have given him some shit. I think that we just wanted to avoid some unnecessary drama in the moment, which I do kinda regret. As consolation, if I see Carl again next year, I'll give him a good, hard purple nurple. :iva: See you all in the San Jose Chronicle!
Well, he knows enough about it to make a tasteless, ignorant joke at the author's expense. That's enough for a rebuttal, but of course not during the panel — that's reserved for insane people. I meant afterward, since you bothered to hunt him down. Anyway, my sad face was because I thought that's where the story was heading, and didn't get to see my mental fantasy fulfilled.
The weekend was spent at home, nursing a bad cold and slight fever. Couldn't breathe very well and there wasn't much to watch so I took down a few boxes where I'd kept 6ish years worth of bills, statements, etc. and scanned them all before shredding most of it. Here's the aftermath -
I guess some good can come out of being ill and home for two days.
Dang, you were more productive than I would have been at home sick! I can relate to the built up paperwork unfortunately.  :judo: I have several bags full, got a bad habit of letting it pile up on me.  I'm really working on being more consistent with getting it filed/shredded/tossed, though. Hope you kicked your cold while you were at it!
Yesterday I went to a Gurudwara (place of worship for Sikhs) for the first time, invited by my oldest friends for their newborn son. The Paath & Kirtan ceremony was followed by food which's called Langar. Langar's food prepared and served by the Sikhs at the Gurudwara on Sundays or the weekend, free for anyone who walks into a Gurudwara. The ceremony was interesting to watch and the food was great.
Today I visited the Intrepid Museum and I regret not having spent more time exploring. I might go back in September since the basic package is just $21. Walked on the flight deck, checked out some planes and choppers, hummed the Top Gun theme when I saw a Super Tomcat, thoroughly enjoyed checking out at the Enterprise, the Hubble replica, Soyuz and other space stuff there, walked inside the ship a little and ended the experience with a tour inside the submarine Growler which was used during the cold war. For that kind of money, it's completely worth the experience. And every year they have a screening of Top Gun on the flight deck! I missed it by 1 day this year, was so bummed.
How was your weekend guys?
Took Friday off and hopped on a train to meet two old pals, they originally introduced me to Berserk (via the anime) years ago. I try to visit them once a year. Friday we hit up the popular ice cream/ shake spot, a Super Walmart (cos why not! ... thought I'd check it out for some camping gear for a camping trip end of the month) and ate some local food specialties. Every time I visit, I try to introduce the couple to different flavors, this time I got them Longanisa (sweet Filipino) sausages since the guy's into these hot-dogs called Snappy's. So far so good.
Saturday night we went to a restaurant and while walking to the table we were assigned, I didn't realize the floor was wet, slipped and my brow hit a bar stool and was knocked out for a few seconds. It was one of those sudden slips you don't anticipate or try to make a save for as you're slipping. Felt nausea and dizzy so I went to the hospital and the CT/ MR scan turned out okay. My eye's fine, can't open it yet but it's easing up. Google tells me 10/15 days till full recovery.
I wish there was a cooler story for my first black eye. It's a little more purple and swollen right now compared to the pic and kinda cool cos I feel like Guts :guts:. I rode the subway wearing my sunglasses this morning - so that's one dumb thing checked off my to-do bucket list.
I had a similar experience long ago, slipped on a wet floor and got hurt pretty bad. I hope you get better soon!
I do appreciate your Guts-like spirit. :guts:
On the weekends, I'm trying to finish building my workshop. It's 1600 sqft with a 14 ft tall ceiling. Only things left to do is the electrical work, interior walls, and purchase the machines and tools I need to start my side business and hobbies. Hopefully it will be done before the end of the year.
 I was at an anime con over the weekend.  Was fun and just big enough not to be elbow to elbow at panels or walking around .
Looks like you had a lot of fun, Branded! It sounds like it wasn't too crowded, which must've been nice. When Link, Gobs and I go to Fanime every year it seems to get harder and harder to move around. I love that guy cosplaying as Takeo, by the way! :casca:
I just spent four days stuck in my apartment. I don't need to ask Walter if he was snowed in because I can just assume it's as bad if not worse than my area.
Damn! Branded, how hard was it getting around with all those HAWT babes flocking over to you for pics because of your dashing good looks and killer guns?
Come spend a winter in Montreal, you'll see that it's not that bad.  :slan:
But hey for a change we actually don't have a lot of snow right now. It actually melting a lot today.
As for the weekend, I played some music with my friend and my girlfriend. We taped a live session to prepare ourself a little bit for the real recording.
Funny cause I read an article on my weather news cast that we are in "deficit" for snow right now and to be honest I pretty glad about that even though I'm used to have snow.
If we compare this winter vs last year, we have a really nice break of the shitty weather.
Yippie for El Nino!
By the way, where is that mega snow storm?
Was bummed I missed the storm and didn't get to each Halo Halo made outta fresh-untouched-snow.
Flew into NY early this morning and spent 14 hours on Sunday flying across various countries. If only I could make pit stops and visit folks from SK *sigh*
I work at home so I make it a point to NEVER work on weekends. Usually my weekends consist of sleeping in, drinking wine, and watching/playing games with my boyfriend who also lives with me. It sounds really boring but I don't like to go out unless I need to meet with clients or buy things I need.  :farnese:
But this weekend, I had a good friend stay over and it was really fun. We played some DND, ate out, and just had a grand time talking.
Went to a Bernie Sanders rally in my home state. It was really great. Lot's of cool people and some great speeches, including one from the man himself who spoke for nearly 2 hours. I also got a slight sunburn on my face, the first of the year  :judo:
Worked on my new apartment, played Fallout 4 in between, watched a few Marvel movies, read some Berserk, fell asleep waiting for Game of Thrones to come out.
Quite content how uneventful my weekend was. Normally it's just chaos hah.
This past weekend I took the bus to Philly with a friend to see Usher and The Roots perform at The Roots Picnic. I'd been to Philly twice in the past. The first time was with dad for a quick lunch and the second time was in 2011 when the owner of Geno's passed away and two friends + I hit up the city for a Philly Cheese steak crawl. We hit up Pat's, then Geno's and finally Jim's which was the best out of the three.
Arrived around lunch and hit up John's Roast Pork which we were told had good Roast Pork and Philly Cheese steak sandwiches. The cheese steak sandwich was on the OK side and what I found interesting and different was they served it with sesame bread, it added a different flavor to the mix. The roast pork was not too bad, came with spinach.
After that and a short break, we headed to the show. I'm not that familiar with Usher or The Roots but seeing them live was one of those 'wow that was really good' kinda experiences. They played 2 hours straight. And, I didn't expect to be that close to the front either.
I don't know Photoshop, so thank you Imgur for these bubble-text boxes
What I didn't notice from my trips before was that the Convention Area of Philly is full of wall arts/ murals. We were driving around and couldn't stop to appreciate them one by one cos that would take a lot of time but I took these from a moving car.
Next day we hit up a hand pulled noodle spot for lunch in Chinatown followed by doufufaa and dessert at A La Mousse
(http://i.imgur.com/kCp33LW.jpg)
We were to get back by Bolt Bus and we got there 4 mins before departure, just in time. Pre-booked tickets in hand we were pushed to the stand-by for the next bus because we didn't come 5 mins before departure. Instead, the ticket person accepted people paying cash, which I'm sure he pocketed for himself. Anyway, we finally got on 2 buses later. All in all, a good adventurous and successful albeit short trip. I plan to take the Greyhound or Peter Pan that'll drop me at Chinatown's doorstep and gobble my way through one afternoon/ evening.
A couple weekends ago I got to go camping with some friends. I got to try kayaking for the first time. One of my friends asked me if I wanted to go out in a two-person kayak that the state park had for rent at a boat dock. She said it was easy. I agreed, assuming that since she had said it was easy she had done it before. This thought made me feel more confident about trying it, thinking she had some experience. Well, later when we were back at camp getting ready to go rent the boat she said she had never been on a kayak before! :ganishka: I guess she had just heard it was easy. She had brought her little dog, a shih tzu, with her and she wanted to take him on the kayak with us, too. Well, at that point I was pretty sure we were going to end up in the lake, but though I was a bit nervous, I was still game. That's what life vests are for, right? Even the dog had one on, a little yellow number featuring Scooby Doo. We got down to the boat dock and the rangers who were there gave us some tips about getting onto the kayak, rowing, and all that good stuff. We managed to get onto it, including the dog, who was able to sit on a flat spot that was between us. We started rowing and it wasn't nearly as hard as I had always thought it would be. The dog was very chill. I think he enjoyed it and when we would stop rowing he would become displeased and start whining, as if to say “I didn't give you permission to stop! Row on, human slaves!” My friend even tried fishing from the kayak. I have no interest in fishing, so I was content to just take in the beautiful scenery of being out on the lake, which was surrounded by lots of tall pine trees. Our only misfortune was that my friend dropped her fishing pole into the lake and it was lost, but thankfully, the rest of us stayed in the kayak. It turned out to be my favorite part of the trip!
