Title: Proj's colors
Post by: Lithrael on April 08, 2005, 02:20:10 PM
Since many of the older images linked in this thread have been moved or lost, I'd like to point new visitors to

the Proj2501 Gallery (http://www.lithrael.com/ig/thumbnails.php?album=4)

More recent pages towards the end of the thread are working fine and can be browsed with images intact.

On behalf of Proj, here's the first color job he has ready to share.

Finally got everythign done.....so here it is.....                                                                      (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y112/Proj2501/Gutsfight.jpg)

And here is is at full res. (http://www.lithrael.com/berserk/features/Proj2501/Gutsfight.jpg)

My own first comment is, next time don't save it with all that white space.   ;)  And I definitely like the style so far.

It's not working Proj2501, it's your link. Check it and try modifying the first post, the one I fixed (I put correct markups, but the picture doesn't show), posting again and again won't solve the problem.

Nice job on the Guts vs. Roshine page!  Good color palette, and I really like how you handled the lighting; it really looks like Roshine's glowing.  She's supposed to be a luminous bluish-green, but I respect your artistic license.  ;)

I like the way you chose to color the Isidro page graphically, with the primary colors.  It works great as separate panels, especially the two of Isidro spinning, but the page overall doesn't harmonize as well as your Guts vs. Roshine.  The green is also a little "toxic" for my taste, slightly too bright.  Using a less saturated green would help.

But awesome work overall! Have you used Photoshop before? Keep going!

Fucking awsome! There hasn't been a great colorer like litheral (except litheral) since Jon left! Keep up the nice work  :).

P.S.: Whatever happened to that "project" that you and Jon were working on lith? ???

I was eyeing a picture i want to work on next or in the very near future...now for my question...what color armor do the neo-hawks wear...silver, red, dull purple,....i have no idea...ive been experimenting but can't seem to nail the color that feels right...your thoughts?
Title: Re: Proj's colors
Post by: Metal Soldier on April 09, 2005, 10:23:40 PM
I would expect most of them to wear a silver or grey armor, but I could be wrong.

I would expect most of them to wear a silver or grey armor, but I could be wrong.

From the few color pictures we have, the common Neo Hawk soldier's armor is silver/grey yeah, just a natural metallic color. They've usually got some underlying clothes that could be a different color though (or no armor, the archers for example), and each of them is different so it can vary from individual to individual (see Locus' lancers, hard to say for sure as they all have a highly customized armor of some sort)...

As for the major apostles, we know their color patterns from various illustrations, you can check them here (http://www.konami.jp/th/card/berserk/gallery/top.html).

I did the one with puck fairly quick...I think it looks good without any colors in the backround....i dunno

Well photobucket has a history of screwing up like that, I stopped using it because it reduced the resolution to one of my pictures as well a while ago, try using imagetown. Theres other sites out there, but they seem to have slipped my mind for the moment.

It's not photobucket's fault.  It says right on the site that any image larger than 250 kb will be automatically resized.  One easy way to save a bigger image with decent resoluton but below 250kb is to use "save for web" in Photoshop.

Try that, Proj, I'd like to see the last couple bigger, too.  They look really nice.  I love how you colored the middle panel of Puck thinking hard!

I really like your style.  You use mostly gradients and let the original sketch do the shading.  That one with Zod is simply increadible, a new benchmark for the normally abused lens flare.  Your color choice on the page of Isidro is interesting though.  I'm not sure if it was intentional, but like someone said you usead all the primary colors for the background.  However, the primary colors you used were from the light spectrum rather than the paint spectrum, which is usually used (the green would have to be substituted for yellow, which might not work for grass).  It looks sort of cool though.  It certainly makes it stand out.

Wow.  That vol 15, page 78 color job is GOOD.  Great sense of dark things on a bright day.  *bows* Excellent work!  Man!  That's such a good volume too.  Brings back memories.  Of burning ghost kids.

I agree with your colors for Mozgus too, he's supposed to be all freakin out and red in the face in that scene.

Kid Berserk there is asking about the fonts used in the translation.  He didn't realise they are Hawks scanslations.

Suggestions for new colors?  Damn, there's so much cool shit to choose from..  How about..  Um...

Berserk fucking rocks so bad...

Hm, well, if you want to start a real crazy project, I wouldn't mind working with you to color a big chunk of the Roshinu apostle fight and the scene of Guts freaking Sidekick Girl out of following him afterwards.  It would be so cool to get a whole sequence colored.   8)

Or, any of the quiet scenes on the beach near Vritannis between when they first reach the ocean and when they get to the lil cottage, would look badass in your style.

Oh oh oh!  I know!  The 2-page spread from near the end of volume 11 where Zodd shows up!  Wyald and Zodd both looking badass as hell and a lot of trees and armor, which you do excellently with.   ;)

Funny u mention that Lith....i selected a few pages from the volumes last night and the Wylad/Zodd scene u mentioned was one i was considering...however theres a slight crease in 'my' scan..perhaps the one u have doesnt have this...but yea i'd love to work on suttin with ya....so lemme kno boss....Peace--->     8)

Very nice.  I like the earthy tones you used in this one.  The only thing I would have changed is the metal, which is too light in my opinion (they just don't seem as evil).  Great job though.

PS:  I just realized how large that horse that Zodd is riding must be.

He's actually rather grey guys, judging from the color illustrations available (TCG), so I think Proj got it right. :)
Title: Re: Proj's colors
Post by: Rickert on May 11, 2005, 07:57:45 AM
yeah I dunno how reliable this is but:

if you look well enough, you see both grey, blue, purple and green tints in the avatar of
Redria (well is the pic made by miura?)...and well it can be sort of reflections anyway.

I'd say it doesn't matter but keep it grey as the basis color and than use some overlay tint as said before...(blue works the best IMO)

I Really like you're colorings 'Proj', I always wanted that chap colored, maybe you can do some more pages of it?(the one guts finally stabs(pierces) that bastard is phat!).

What I wanted to say about the last Griffith one is; make the smoke more blurry(just add Gaussian blur filter to certain places or use the blur-tool or whatever(well, you know how it works)

it makes it more flashy in a special effect-way, and leaves all those tiny dots away...

keep it up! ;D

The avatar of redria isn't the original, the colors were modified (hence the bluish tint). The original is grey (http://www.konami.jp/th/card/berserk/gallery/img/g_044.jpg).

maybe you should try some combination of red-or only red--in combination with orange tint on the eyes of zoddo instead of choosing for only orange it seems a lil' bit strange to me y/k... ;)

Nice job.  The palette is unified with all the warm colors you chose.  These are getting really good, and your coloring of Giichi and Manji is equal to or better than the ones Dark Horse has done.  You could probably get a job doing this!

Your colouring is great but i guess i prefer the background as blue...

Just like this...

With this blue background, wouldnt it fit the background with the Griffith one?
Title: Re: Proj's colors
Post by: Proj2501 on May 31, 2005, 02:24:28 AM
Blue does work excellent... However, I chose to the orange/red because IMO I felt it sumed up this particular moment of Zodd and Guts clashing swords for a second time. Being that Guts could've easily lost to Zodd the first had it not been for Griffiths Beherit poppin' out. Halfway through I did notice the avatar of the pic i was working on...and yes, maybe blue does work for the scenery...but for me, the red captures the moment...plus anyone can copy the colored avatars, and what fun is that?...none at all...

P.S. Excuse me gettin heated a couple of posts ago, I just get easily pissed when wrongly accused... >:(

Don't worry, my first coloration was that same situation (though mine was the full page pic of that same clash), and people told me to change the background as well.  Though the blue looks pretty good, I still like the red a lot as well.

Well, I dig your colors on the next page of that badass battle, late though my compliments be.  I really like your gradient backgrounds.  All the motion blur going on in that fight would drive me nuts..  I never know how to handle that stuff in coloration.  I'm (still) working on the big Zodd roar from that fight over a fresh scan (and possible color schemes for the Roshinu apostle too, heh..  slacker Lith).   Good god I'm slow.  It looks pretty damn nice though.

Another awesome job!  They just keep piling on tonight.  I love the contrast ebtween the sound effects and the rest of it, they really make everything stand out.  The glow on Zodd's eyes rocks, though I would have just kept it solid red instead of making it lighter.

The red in the kana seems to overpower the blood.  It overpowers the gore makeing it hard to see.  I s'pose some of that can also be attributed to the limited color range between red and orange though.

Is it just me or do the tigers look distinctly more goofy orange?
Title: Re: Proj's colors

I looked at some pictures of real tigers prior to doin this....and as far as i can tell the orange used is pretty accurate. What do u mean by "goofy orange" Manjin? I also fooled around with dif colors for the lettering....everything else seemed off  (but i do agree with u about it throwing off the blood) maybe ill see what i can do with it....thanx for the input tho....

I think he means that it looks goofy when it's been colored in orange, not that the color of orange you used was goofy. :beast:

Yea, its nothing you did, its just the orange brings it out more.  The tigers look kinda goofy, like stuffed animals with teeth.  Crooked teeth at that.

If I may add a suggestion, how about making the Tiger white?

White tigers originated in Central India, and since the historical Kushan hail from Northern India... It's not THAT far away  :schierke:

It would turn up a notch the blood effect, and give a more 'exotic' feel to the kittykat.

I think the tiger just looks wierd 'cause the eyes are buggin' out.  Great olorization, but I'd make the SFX more subtle, especially since they're 'transparent.'

Thanx for clairying! Yes, thr thought did cross my mind to make the tigers white, I didn't know white tigers hailed from India...good to know...maybe ill try a few dif things with it.... :chomp:
P.S. I even thought that these tigers may be black....your thoughs?

I actually thought that was Zodd for awhile there LOL, but nice work, and ya I agree that the tiger should be white so the blood is more vivid and not off set by the orange.

Yeah, they live in southeastern Asia and in central and southern India. White tigers are very rare though, always have been. Putting aside esthetic considerations, it's more logical for them to bear a normal fur color, it would be quite a hassle for an army to hunt white tigers specifically... Anyway, if you make their fur white, don't forget the blue eyes and brown (not black) stripes. :zodd:

As for a black color... Doesn't seem so to me, even in B&W. On a side note, your coloring isn't correct in that "normal" tigers still have a good part of their pelt that is white, especially the lower body (part of the face, neck, chest, inside of legs...). Not easy to properly render in that picture, though.

I'm likin' it so far.  I noticed you're putting some desaturation (or atmospheric perspective) on the daka in the back.  However the tigers they're riding are the same intensity in color.
You might want to carry the same level of desaturation over to those tigers as well.

Keep it up.  You must finish in 5 hours!!
...or not.

Ah u noticed....a sad story about the tigers in the backround when i was workin on this, i saved it once as a jpeg to post here.....then my comp frooze and i had to restart!!!!!! So i only had it saved as a Jpeg.... ill try to see what i can do.....come to think of it, wtf can i do to fix it anyway?
Title: Re: Proj's colors
Post by: CnC on December 30, 2005, 04:26:27 PM
well, if its all flat (I'm hoping the daka are on another layer),  the quickest way to fix the problem (IMO) is to copy the layer with all the tigers on it and desaturate (using hue/saturation) that copied layer.  keep your eye on the back tigers and get them to a saturation you like.
Then erase out (using a mask or just the eraser) the tigers in front from that copied layer.  Now you should have the depth you were looking for.  Done.

In the event that the daka are also on the same layer, its not hard to erase them from the desaturated layer, either.

Then I'd probably merge the desaturated tigers layer to the saturated tigers layer to keep things simple.  This is up to you but I find the less layers I have to deal with the faster i can get these things done.

Let this be a lesson to save your psd's often (before you do anything major, at the very least).

link isn't workin'

EDIT: ok, now its working.

Its a good coloring, its a bit plain tho.  There is no variance in color or light (I realize the setting doesn't lend itself too well).  Are we to assume theres no source of light here?  Miura indicated something coming from the rear right (mostly right) of the scene.
As a character coloring its good (I like the flesh tones), but I think the background needs more than a flat grey

I agree, the background is too plain.  You could try coloring it like the actual Mosque it was based on.  I believe it's La Mezquita in Spain...I think...

Yeah, la Mezquita de Córdoba.

In Proj's favor, that background is very hard to do something with.  The entire thing is done up in screentones, and the shadows and stuff are a bit awkward.  It's doable, but I don't think it suits Proj's simplified and speedy yet vibrant style, it would just take too long to do anything with it.  I like the blue you chose though, nice to see him in something besides green.  Green definately suits him, but variety is nice.

Good looking out with the light source...i forgot about it!!! I'll go and fix it.   The only reason I've been banging these out is cuz I've had like 5 days off from work so I had plenty of time to do these. But sadly, I won't have a day off for awhile.

Already much better.  Don't forget light... its the most important.

Perhaps something from the Millenium Falcon arc.  Don't choose the one where he's unslinging his sword in font of the charging trolls in qliphoth (sp?), I'm workin' on that one (and it's a bitch!).

Try this, no matter what scene you choose, go on google or something and look for a photo with similar lighting conditions to what you would want to acheive.  Use that photo as a guide to how you choose your colors.
Good luck

If I could offer a tip it helps to fill the canvas with color as soon as possible before beginning the individual detailing.  It makes things easier in many respects.  You can work on the background before the foreground, you get a good sense of how to light the scene, plus it just speeds things overall (IMO).  Theres quite a bit of room to make this a dramatic scene (or more so than it already is Miura rules!).  Seems the light is coming from behind the daka, so you could make the light focus on Guts a little more than natural (he's the focal point).

Just some suggestions.  Good luck.

The only thing so far that has me nervous is the fog...what color to make it etc...i already have tons of ideas that will add detail. I know the fire is coming from the ships behind them.
If you guys can throw out some suggestions on how to go about the fog I'd appreciate it, i mean i have my own ideas, but suggestions can only help.

I don't have a suggestion, but a request/question. Will the final picture be suited for desktop backgrounds?  :???:

Your stuff looks great (I really like the warm color pics) and using em for my desktop would make it that much prettier

edit: I mean size wise :D

Well, the scene lends itself to volumetric lighting.  Like I tried to achieve in my daka pic, I'd imagine there would be an bright yellow/orange tint to the fog, with breakups where a daka's shadow would be.  Those little details usually sell the idea that its smoke/fog.
This is another reason why nailing the lighting comes before detailing the characters.  'Cuase that light relationship comes first.  Work from bigger to smaller.

It is definitely NOT plain white.  Its night time and theres a bright light coming from the rear of the picture.  You might want to breakup the fog a little more and show some of the street and the feet of the Daka/Guts.  I realize that its thick fog but fog is inherently thinner than smoke and lets light through.

Hope that helps.

What, you don't like mayonnaise or bechamel? Tasteless American... :troll:

I just have a preference for accuracy. Anyway Proj, while it might not be easy, it'd be cool if you tried to incorporate the light radiating from Iveralla in that coloring (on Schierke's hat).

cool little movie you got there!  I wish it were bigger.
I like the pacing, although I suppose the music helped with that.

My only crit are the full pages are rather strange looking when viewed that small.  I'd have stuck to panels only, but its your choice.

I hear the broke part.  The unofficial rule is to erase the (often incorrect) text and just keep the empty bubbles.

If you're really skilled you could try to clone out the bubbles entirely

Casca and moon child....i feel eh about it...

I like it.  Perhaps the reason you feel "eh" about it are twofold.  I think the blue cloth is _very_ saturated given the scene depicted (even bright moonlight wouldnt let stuff glow like that).  Secondly is that its too uniformly lit.  Thats not to say that shadows and such arent indicated, just that the shadows arent dark enough given, once again, the scene depicted.  So I think youll like it a bit more with darker shadows.  Perhaps to sell the moonlight you can give it a cooler color cast.

That said, I like the skin tones, and your technical ability has increased a hundred fold since you started.  Great work.   Keep  at it.

This is a rough idea of what I'm getting at (really rough).
1st frame is your pic
2nd frame is pic with alittle less blue and some shadows
3rd frame is just a possible lighting solution (perhaps to show moonlight), however this is just for shits and giggles,  what you have in lighting is pretty good already.

Title: Re: Proj's colors
Post by: Vaxillus on May 02, 2006, 01:20:19 AM
The new coloration looks great.  The lighting is definately imperfect, but it would be extremely hard to do it right.  Everything should be lit from below by the fire with just a bit of moonlight coming from above.  Just being nitpicky, I'll shut up.
Title: Re: Proj's colors
Post by: CnC on May 02, 2006, 02:13:17 AM
Good work on that new panel, Proj.

But throw some highlights in there man!  Draw my eyes to Serpico.  You've got all sorts of source to choose from.  Fire and a magical snake/water creature.  Perfect chance to throw some blue on Daiba and some red/yellow on Serpico.  But thats just one option.  It just needs a stronger focal point.

Cheers.
Title: Re: Proj's colors

Just out of curiosity: Does it still need a strong focal point, when coloring a full page with consecutive panels, in your opinion?

When coloring a page the "focal point" is the story.  So when coloring you're keeping storytelling in mind and coloring appropriately.  Obviously, in each panel theres usually a subject or action that is being highlighted, but overall the story is what matters.
It gets more complicated, but thats basically it.

damn nice job, proj.
There really isn't much to crit here.  Technically, you need to watch the blood coloring a bit.  Changing the black lines to red was good, however if the blood is in an area of shadow it shouldn't be illuminated (unless makara blood glows).

There really isn't much else.  I really like the illumination on the fin of the makara.  Thats really good to show texture.  I also really like the variance of color on the amor and elsewhere.  I really makes things pop out.

Why'd you pick the green for the sfx?  nothing technically wrong with it but it sticks out perhaps a bit too much.  But, really, thats minor
Title: Re: Proj's colors
Post by: Vaxillus on May 07, 2006, 04:41:28 AM
I pretty much agree with what CnC said, though I'd like to add a few things.  I think the unlined area around Guts (in the left) could use a bit more action.  I'd say either darken it or even lighten it to make it look like there's thick fog or smoke.  Also, I think the fleshy tone in the upper right is a bit too light.  This could be my laptop screen though.  I do want to strongly second the remark about the green SFX, I think that's a bit funky.  I think even the blue looks a little too saturated.  I think the orange you used in the back would have been better suited.

The above is a bit exagerated and excessive, but I can'tlet you off with a perfect score too easily, can I?  :guts:

nice job proj,

make sure Guts skin color is in there.  its pale atm.  But I'm sure you've seen that (as you said its not 100% yet)

there seems to be some color spill into the text bubbles.  thats a no-no.  I'd also up the intensity of the lightning to match the sfx.  The look a bit weak, imo.

Also watch you edges. there's some spill in parts (like serp's ear and the ridges on Guts' armor)

Other than that its a good lookin' panel.  maybe lighten the black lines on the fog so it looks a bit more like fog?  thats more of a what-if than an actual crit.  It might help the character pop out more.

I like this one too!  I'd sharpen Guts, or at least sharpen the highlights on Guts on this one.  It kinda meshes all together (I realize its foggy but it can't ALL be blurry).  But I really like the warm and cool tones.

I really like it. Definately captures the idea that Guts is in for something big. The fog effect works well for the background. I think Guts' armor would look better with stronger highlights, and crisper detail like CnC mentioned and also if you took the time to show the different colors reflecting off of the armor roughly the way it would on real metal. It's tough because it's mostly black in the manga, but would add alot to it and make Guts really stand out if you could pull it off. Nice stuff!! :zodd:

Very nice work on the coloring - love the fog effect.  Everything looks great, and I agree with CnC on sharpening Guts up to make him stand out a little bit better; I also agree with Borgoff's idea on making stronger highlights and maybe reflections on the armor.  Other than that the DS could also use a bit of reflection or highlights, since it kind of gets absorbed into the background otherwise.

And the pic of Casca and the demon child is damn near perfect.  The colors, lighting, and shading are all excellent; this has to be my favorite piece of your work thus far.  Post more.  :guts:

I like the Casca/Mozgus one the most. It's really good. The Zodd and Guts one I find a bit dull, but then again they're supposed to be in the middle of the fog, so I guess that's normal. Otherwise it's great, technically and all. I like Guts & Zodd themselves a lot. The Guts with helmet picture I think lacks contrast or something on parts of the armor that should be a more solid black, IMHO.

Anyway, great job overall. Keep going man. :guts:

Ever thought of sending samples of your work to miura and getting a job in turning berserk into a colored manga?  :carcus:

Interesting first draft.

Its way too dark, but it creates some interesting ideas that you could do with the lighting.  The sun outside could act as a spotlight to whatever you want.
I wish I had thought of that when I was doing mine.  D'oh.

Prioritizing school work over Berserk colorings... for shame!

As for Ganishka the Thunderhead... I like it!
I really dig the lighting and the shading on the clouds.

The troll one is good too!  He's too smooth tho!  Rough up that skin texture a bit.  I realize, though, that it's a quicky.

Title: Re: Proj's colors

Hey Proj, another good one.

I'm not totally sure what blueberserk's getting at but for me, I think the only glaring problem is the uniformity in texture.  The pitfall of that soft airbrushed look is that everything can have that metallic sheen.  Everything from the clothes, skin, rock, wood seems to have the same level texture.  And with that many highlights it can be hard to pick out a focal point.  I think Guts skin, in particular could stand to lose a bit of that gloss (while Schierke's could use some warming up, as she looks a bit pale).  Also note that the wall of the city seems too flat (where's the hightlight/shadows on rock)?

It fits the fantastic subjects and i like your way of using the colors although it's not very realistic but more fantastic.

Keep in mind the lighting is that of a sunrise, so I think that may be why you're thinking its fantastical.

Just as a side note, keep in mind you're telling a story on this page.  There's no dialogue so colors can help.  Imagine if its pre-dawn in the first panel with most of the elves generating the light and the next two panels are the sun beginning to hit Guts' face.  The rest of the page would say as is.  That would set up the spread with Griffith coming up on the next page.  Not a requirement but just a suggestion.

I can see what you mean. Maybe different style brushes?

Re-worked a few things based on your suggestion. Particularly the lights from the elves. (See Farnese's face.) Darkened up the fisrt panel, highlights on the brick and gave a little more red to Schierke's face. Spanx man.

Varying up the brushes can help. Just a change in brush hardness and a different stroke can give the illusion of texture.  So just see what works.

I made another GIF (http://www.mattbrowning.com/berserk/proj_crit.gif) to demonstrate a bit of what I'm talking about.  Basically I just pushed what you did a little further.  Added a distinctive shadow on Guts' face to give the light direction, made the light emanating from the elves a bit more distinctive in the first panel, etc.  Just some changes to the overall lighting.  I hope that demonstrates a bit more of what I'm talking about...

Really great stuff here, proj.  Minor crit might be to sharpen the highlights on Locus, if only to make him pop out a bit more but also to help differentiate the material he's made of from everything else.  A lot of things share a similar level of shine.  It's minor, tho, as this is great.

I really like the treatment on the background characters, they're great but you knocked them back a bit (just a smidge) to give the picture a of depth.  Awesome :)

Sorry for the late post, but have only just seen your latest Zodd masterpiece.

Awesome!!  :zodd:

I had started colouring that panel myself with the idea of using it as an avatar, but it is taking bloody ages. How long did it take to colour if you don't mind me asking?

Cool.. just .. cool. Though I wish his eyes were a bit more menacing. It just doesn't give me that "I'm about to rip you in half" vibe. If that makes any sense. His eyes remind me too much of a cute plushy toy. Though maybe I'm just going insane.   :guts:

Not that I'm complaining or anything, but you seemed to have used the same color. My main problem with the coloring is how it seems that the same brown color was used to shade Griffith. I really like it either way, I just wanted to point that out.

Bravo!!!! That cleaved Ganishka's face was really polished. Great coloring, I'm really likeing the glow - you've got a good handle on the lighting here affecting other objects.

Also, hah! Poor Schierke, especially in light of the translation about this scene - I hope she kept those 'innkeeper's daughter's' clothes she got from back when they were in the city! Something tells me that having a change of clothes on hand might save her a lot of grief from a certain nearby monkey.  :isidro:

Great minds, you know.   :slan:  And gorgeous work!  Love the soft, almost glowing light you do so well.  How do you get that effect, anyway?  I can only get something like it by luck with a soft brush on low opacity scribbled like hell (or an actual glow effect on a lightly sketched layer, heh) and it doesn't look like that's what you do at all.

How do you get that effect, anyway?
Well, I'm not sure what you mean exactly. I'll try to answer anyways.

1) I went and erased the ugly glow that surrounded the staff and dagger. I feel comfortable erasing the glow because I never see these 'artificial glows' in the official paintings or card game paintings-recolors.

2) I then colored the staff

I'll post a mini-tutorial to show I do things. It'll be easier to explain.

I'll post a mini-tutorial to show I do things. It'll be easier to explain.

Cool!  Though I really just mean the soft look of the light you usually use.

The shiny bits on the tentacle I did were just a couple taps with a hard edged brush with pressure sensitivity on both shape and opacity.   :void:

That's so incredibly sick! Awesome work! I'm pretty sure his eyes are a fiery red/orange.  I'm glad you did this spread, it's one of my favorites...the only thing I think might improve the image is giving the eyes a little more glow/intensity, but not much.  It almost looks like he's coming out of the fog...Great job with those subtle details.

Nice work, I like the glowey eyes. One thing I would recommend is to not use such a soft airbrush to do all your shading. It makes things looks a little too much like plastic, such as on the panel with Schierke on the previous page. It's just a little too smooth.

Oy, I spent more time on the top panel with Daiba and cleaning up the speech bubbles than I did with all the Ganishka ones. :daiba: It's a shame there were SO many of them too. You kind of don't notice them after awhile, especially when you dump the dark base color when you begin. By the time it was finished I was like, "Whoa, dems alot of bubbles."

Yeah, I really like the last one. I'd make the candles a little brighter though, at least in the center of the fire. The other two seem a little too dark.

I see the God Hand picture is coming along quite nicely. I think that the God Hand picture should be a little more brighter. You did a great job coloring the other two pictures.

What bothers me about the Egg picture (that I began 2 years ago) is that it's a terrible, terrible scan. Notice the candles in the middle.  :farnese:

Cool. I don't know why but the pic of the sticks all stuck into the back makes my skin crawl.

Great work! I like them both, but I have a few comments on each.  I think the moonlight boy one should be quite a bit brighter, and by its nature, shouldn't darken at the edges. It's a being of light, an astral body without real definition. The light that it gives off should probably light up the surrounding area more too, since the boy served as a beacon for Guts to move around the sea god with.

As for the Guts coloring, I think the eyes have a little too much color along the edges of them. Should be pale white, with some shading but no saturation. I also think you're missing a great opportunity by not coloring the arteries running along the heart. Guts' blood probably shouldn't appear that red, given the scenario and the lack of natural lighting. Maybe something more akin to the shades around him, actually.

I colored the arteries blue actually. Had Aaz teach me Sea God biology earlier, I'm currently coloring them over. :ganishka: Have a bit of photoshop fatigue at the moment. As for Guts' blood, yea, I was thinking that too as well. I didn't want to desaturate too much too soon. Also, I sort of wanted to draw attention to it. Looking at the original, my eyes keep going back to the blood gushing from Guts.

The Moonlight Boy happened by accident. I have versions of him brighter. I'll work on 'em before posting

I checked the dates on the thread. It's been almost two years since I began and completed a Berserk color.   I missed it.  :judo:

I really like the lighting and colors in the smoke (from a Gotham neon sign maybe?) in that Catwoman! Also, can't wait to see some Berserk show up. Keep it up!

This will be my last non-related Berserk color I'll post here. But, when I come back to Berserk, I'm kicking things up a notch.  :daiba:

In anticipation for my upcoming trip to Japan, I give you Godzilla:

These are really well done! I love the cat women one too.

Also, you should totally replace your current breaking bad avatar with your breaking bad drawing here.

Real life (wedding planning) and other types of nerdom (took up modeling Godzilla kits) have really gotten in the way of Berserk paint overs. I began coloring a two page spread from the latest episode a few weeks back. Which reminds me to ask: What color does everyone think the Falconia crystal wards are? Sorry, I'm a little off lately, idk their actual name. I was thinking either traditional crystal (not much color, just reflecting surroundings) or having them glow from within (like a fire inside). The first is probably more Berserk-ish. I probably have 10+ Berserk paint overs half done.

Also, anyone have experience with vinyl/resin models? I could use some tips here and there.

What I'm cheating on Berserk with. Also from Japan...     In the end, I always come back to Berserk.  :azan:

They're called Wingstones, and I picture them as glowing from inside, and a whitish glow.

I think I agree with Aaz. They definitely appear to be glowing, most likely the same as the Tree, I imagine a similiar white or light blue/white? I know you generally show a few different colour variations on things, these crystals would be perfect for just that as we really don't know for sure.

Awesome Godzilla btw! I haven't seen anything related to him lately but was obsessed as a kid.

Good job Proj! were this all had some colored to them, or you colored them all from scratch?

Since they're representative of the wings of the Falcon of Light, I'd agree with Aaz that they'd probably be the color of white/light.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Hey, Skullknight.net. It's been awhile. I don't color much these days sadly, but I've gotten pretty big into photography. Thought this would be the best place to share tonight's subject. Hope everyone is doing well!

Sup Proj. That's pretty neat, picture is crisp enough that it looks like a 3D model at first glance when downsized. :void:
Nice work with the fog, too!

Thanks, guys. Found an old fog machine and have been a total one trick pony with it. I think it lends itself rather well to monster photo atmosphere.

Waiting of a 1/6 scale Guts to arrive. I'm also debating on whether or not to pull the trigger on the Threezero Skull Knight.
