Very interesting developments, and lots of things to process.

Obviously the big question concerns the last page reveal: that the last fragment is the Demon Child. It makes sense thematically: the whole cocoon aspect of the brambles invited this kind of thing, and it can be directly tied to the rape, since it's what turned the boy into a monstrosity. However it also raises a number of questions. The one that immediately came to my mind is that Casca was broken before she gave birth to the child.

Of course it can still work fine because in this layer of her dream Casca is somewhat aware of the real world (see the whole imagery of the dog carrying the broken doll in the coffin and enduring hardships from relentless monsters), but that makes me very curious to see how Miura will reconcile the chain of events. Next episode should have the answer, as Schierke & Farnese experience the pivotal moment that destroyed Casca's mind... But the wait will make it a loooong month.

"There's someone I want to see"...I think it's not who we assumed it was, and will provide an answer as to what will give her (and I guess everyone) a goal or purpose after Elhelm. While she was broken before giving birth, I'm hoping it's revealed that her attachment to the child was more than just instinctual, that there was true heartbreak over it being corrupted and then lost.

Intense stuff. The depiction of Femto/bird's head, wow.  :femto: I also really love the V style of the mouth opening.

That's a good point. But time after time, there's one character who's always showed up to resolve that threat. The question is, does it make sense for him to manifest here?

I hope it does, actually, not so much to mollify Guts-dog, but because I hope that underlying Casca's motherly instincts, there is a deeper connection or attachment to her lost son that the fragment/return to sanity will add clarity (and more questions) to. The final shard's container resembles the womb/chamber of the eclipse, but with Femto already flying around, I wonder if it'll depict the corruption of her fetus more than her own violation.

I had always hoped Silat would eventually ally with Guts (which may still end up happening), but allying with Rickert and Daiba and then traveling back to their homeland is really exciting.

Something I only mention in case people have missed it, but Erika's the one who stops to go get the rocket launcher from the wagon. Clever girl.

For all her amusing moments of panic, she's been courageous with all the the things she's seen and gone through. I imagine she will become much more complementary to Rickert in the future. Looking forward to seeing how capable of a character she turns into.

By the way, there's probably a simple explanation as usual, but I wonder why Guts didn't try using his arm cannon prior to collapsing?  Unless the blast radius is limited to point-blank shots, the heart's a big enough target that he likely would've hit it despite the distance.  How effectual it'd be given the distance, the heartbeats, and the extreme air/water pressure is another matter, but better than not landing a single touch.

Of course, given an opening (such as from the merrows), maybe he could shoot the heart point blank and rupture it :badbone:

I can blame people who say the quality of the series has degraded simply because they're impatient. That's what Handmade_Lion was referring to.

As one of the few who's been following episode by episode since 2000, I've never had a problem with the pacing/breaks, as the story and quality of the art has consistently impressed me every time. I just hope Miura doesn't develop amyloidosis (or befall an accident) before he's done. :schnoz:

Fantastic episode. Love those shots of Guts. Made my heart go out to the big guy...  But I think the merrows' song will give Guts the opening he needs to finish off the Sea God.

I think he managed to at least nick the heart.  Hopefully that's enough to cause a fatal arrythmia and heart attack  :carcus:

But it's not just air. The area they're in now is more dense than that, as Guts said in 322:
Yeah, but Guts isn't choking or drowning obviously, so it IS still air and he's not truly underwater. I was only mentioning it more as an observation (as to how clearly supernatural and like the sea the area of the heart is, as Guts said. If being inside a sea god wasn't enough.)

I felt like a nerd reading this episode.  I found myself drawn to the awesome renditions of real life deep sea creatures.  It's funny to see that he practically googled deep sea fish to get some inspiration.  Gulper eel, Wolftrap Angler, Goblin Shark and what looks to be a Frilled Gill Shark all pretty realistically translated into huge behemoths.  Awesome visuals as always.
Don't  forget the vampire squid, 'swimming' through what should be air  :schnoz:

I'm interested in whether or not the sea god will eventually communicate with guts/schierke, or if it's too primitive/monstrous. It wouldnt really change what either party is trying to accomplish, though, so I doubt it.  I just hate to think of such an ancient, powerful, and likely intelligent entity just perishing without revealing more about itself rather than from a 3rd party  :carcus:

Also curious as to whether the voice that spoke to Isma means that the merrows/mellows are heading their way to deal with the sea god once more. If so, maybe they could point guts to the sea gods blow hole once the job is done or something  :ganishka:

Seems like Guts got sucked through the hole he made, implying negative air pressure from lungs, assuming the monster has lungs and breathes.  If he was in the monster's actual lungs/airways, though, he and those spiders would go flying with each breath, so he's probably on the surface of the diaphragm/stomach looking up at the lungs rather than inside.

Lungs are close to the heart in most species, though, so he's getting closer  :guts:
He should just jump on one of those spiders' backs, slap its rump, and gallop straight to it :ganishka:

I love how guts slid tarzan style off that tentacle into the mouth.  Awesome. :azan:

More like fred flinstone  :carcus:

On that last page, it looked like the slugs are extremely close to the ship on the 2nd last image, but possibly further away on the last, also with bright light emanating from the ship.  Wonder if it's the 4 kings spell taking effect? Or it could just be massive simultaneous cannon fire

Well, it looks like Guts' "Beastman" mode was easily reproduced. The Beast said the first time was a one time fluke, so I wonder what perspective it'll have on the situation now...and if Schierke can extricate herself and restore Guts without incident.

Although the imagery with the ocean effects is bright, I doubt the ship would be left alone without any challenges to Farnese's spell.  But if it does prove to be the merrows, what better escort to Elfhelm?  :carcus:

True, but she still didn't feel the need to share the information, and I'm under the impression that it's a bit of a recurring thing with her. What she knows about Griffith also comes to mind for example. But maybe it's just me. In her defense, the other characters have kept their share of secrets as well.
The feeling I get about her is that she's patiently packing the info away for when it will become better understood (e.g., she isn't delving into Guts' past despite being confused) or relevant to what the crew's trying to do...besides, Isidro usually just busts out some wisecracks whenever she does drop some revelations, so she probably operates on a need to know basis now :carcus:

Speaking of Schierke, I find it interesting that she seems prone to keep information to herself. She asked Isma for her story and then listened to it without once intervening to tell her the first thing she'd seen when they met, regardless of the fact it would answer Isma's questions about herself. And it's not the first time she does it either (e.g. the details of her encounter with Sonia and the vision of Vritannis in flames she had shown her).
Well, it seems only natural that she would be secretive when it comes to people she just met.  As for not warning the rest about Sonia's vision, it seems that she didn't know what to make of it since she didn't think about it again until they saw the tiger wasn't going to change what they had to do at any rate

I'm wondering if the shots of his muscles won't serve to show the flipside later as he aches all over or something like that.

I was just glad it didn't show his muscles, tendons, and ligaments getting torn...the way his joints are getting stressed, I wouldn't be surprised at seeing them rupture.

I am both happy and sad to see the Beast come out.  I guess we'll see what effects if any the world's transformation will have on far, it looks like it's the same.  But, not like Guts will really make much of a dent in the horde of monsters around them...again, either Schierke must cast an extremely powerful spell, Isma does something, or some other deus ex machina has to happen...

The sea god still hasn't shown itself (the thing in the ship looks like it's just another slug, and I doubt a 'sea god' would tolerate a pirate on its back talking smack) which kind of sucks.

Really not sure where this is headed...

Why? Because with Guts, Serpico, and Schierke, plus the unknown abilities of Isma (I think that's her name), they basically have all that already.

I didn't think I had to spell it out, but I was referring to Schierke and Isma with "heavy duty magic or entity." My point was that plain combat (probably even with Guts using the Berserker armor) won't be enough. Guts/Serpico can take out several, but there's a small forest of those monsters, and who knows what is inside or will manifest in the huge pirate ship. Guts is already hard pressed (had to use and hurriedly reload his cannon so soon and obviously not going to be able to keep up unless he gives in to the armor) so again, they need heavy duty magic (obviously from Schierke and/or Isma) or some other spiritual entity/entities (mermaids, etc) that are as powerful as the 'sea god.' Someone else speculated about Guts's/Casca's son, and he did show up on a full moon next to the ocean before, so maybe he'll show up...maybe he's more powerful since the merging of worlds.

They need heavy duty magic or an entity/entities of equal power to the sea 'god' to get out of this one...

Weird town...that tavern's/inn's sign looks like it features a symbol version of a "devil whale" that we saw in episode 308, underneath the jug.  And yeah, that astral pic of Isma does give a mermaid impression...maybe she's a sea nymph

Isidro barely ever listens to Schierke, so I'm half betting he goes into the cave anyways against the advice of another strange girl. The close-up of the idol shows some dark splotches on the horizontal ribbing...interesting to see what it actually is

Looks similar to what Flora showed Schierke in this image (click), what with the twin overhead nostrils shooting out air/water and all. Anyone care to give it a name?

Yeah, I'd say it's dead on.  Kind of looks like this "Devil Whale"

Can't believe it's been 5.5 years since that episode was released. But, I figured that foreshadowing was done for a reason :carcus: .  Looks like what I referred to on the other page (you can barely see it on your link) 5 years ago as "a Kushan with drumsticks as legs" is actually a "Sea Bishop/Bishop Fish/Sea Monk."

Wonder if we'll see those, too  :troll:

Lots of pics of sea monsters with their historical info/debunking:

Seems like the brands still respond in the usual manner.  Also, I'd thought the 'boss' had turned into the skeleton riding the shark figurehead from the preview, haha...guess not

What I'm wondering about though is how they got to attack Roderick's ship. In the first picture their lookout says there's no ship on the horizon (in front of them). But by the end of the episode, their ship, now possessed, is attacking the Sea Horse.

Maybe it submerged and resurfaced Pirates of the Caribbean style. :carcus:

That alternate cover of vol 34 is gorgeous.  I would kill for a poster of that :zodd: (kind of reminds me of Cecil/Kain from Final Fantasy, by the way :schnoz: )

I could be missing it, but has anyone speculated about the possible effect upon magic users/enchanted items?  I wonder if they'll become remarkably potent, now.
