This looks absolutely stunning!!! I'm terrified of the price tag on this puppy, but the day there's affordable Berserk merch is the day that hell freezes over.
I love this, and if I win the lottery I would snag this in a heartbeat!!  :guts:

Don't suppose there's a way to pre order it for PC yet at all to get those skins? (I'll be checking on Steam religiously but I don't want to miss out on that Pirate Schierke. It's so bad, I need it.)
I don't have a PS4, and as much as I love Berserk I don't want to spend an extra $400 just to play it. I might as well put that money towards a new Berserk statue....

Gift sent! :guts:

Nice! And so it has begun! I'll be picking up my gifts when I'm in the city next week, but I'll send them off ASAP so it doesn't arrive late again....  :casca:

This intrigues me a bit.  I love dioramas, and I especially want more Casca statues.  It's hard to say how good the faces are though.  From the side, Casca looks a bit off, so I would need to wait for front-facing pics to see both her and Guts' face.  We'll see...  I haven't bought an AOW statue in over a year.  I think the last one I got was the tentacle ship~

I agree -- tickle me intrigued as well. It's so refreshing to see a diorama over the typical Guts action shot (as epic as they can be, they've been getting a bit old lately.)
I know right off the bat I won't be able to afford this, but I am looking forward to seeing more photos!

The worst-selling major handheld of the past decade outsold the worst-selling major console of the past decade? I'm floored.  :schierke:

I was actually just thinking that. I haven't owned a non-Nintendo handheld...ever. And I have never felt like I was missing out on any of them to be honest.
I do recall wanting a PSP when they first came out, but I was 11 at the time and just wanted to be edgy...despite wanting it, I don't regret never owning one.  :slan:

Poor Vita. Never stood a chance.  :slan:

Manga Mausoleum / Re: Friend wants to know where to read the berserk manga
« on: September 14, 2016, 04:33:24 AM »
I first read it online as I was overwhelmed with how many volumes there were to collect -- and as a full time University student at the time, it was a lot of money to drop on books that weren't for my classes.
However, I managed to luck out one year and found someone selling Volumes 1-16 for 5 bucks each. I snagged them up SO fast, and thus began my collection. I now only have 4 more volumes to collect and I will be entirely caught up.
My best bit of advice is keep a sharp eye out at expos and comic conventions, and build your collection one volume at a time when you can afford it.
Even make it an effort to order in one volume every paycheck or every month and you'll build your collection at a steady rate!

I can speak from experience that seeing the physical volumes on the shelf definitely beat reading it online.

Best of luck!  :guts:

For those wondering about Prices, Prime 1 is making an assload of Arkham statues in 1:3 and Batman as well as the Arkham Knight are $900US. Harley, Deathstroke as well as some others cost a bit more (I'm guessing due to bases, etc?). Their 1:2 Heath Ledger, Batfleck and Superman are $2000US. That should give you an idea of what to expect in terms of prices depending on the scale.

Their products are high quality and their Ledger Joker for example has the head sculpt done by Adam Gu who use to make a killing on his custom 1:6 sculpts and the clothes are made by Kato who is the best in the business (you wouldn't believe how much his 1:6 custom joker replacement clothes would sell for). It looks like the 1:2 scale statues have the clothing though for extra realism while 1:3 is all sculpted.

Aside from price, one thing that will get very tricky is finding places to store the boxes.

Very valid points on this front. Prime 1 is a studio that can't be messed with. Sideshow even officially sells their work through their website so it's really top notch ~ which is also why it comes with such a hefty price tag.
There's no question in my mind that what we see come out of their Berserk line will be top notch, and if you're willing to drop the cash on it you'll get more bang from your buck through these guys than you ever will through Art of War.
I'm very eager to see what comes out of this!

Anime Asylum / Re: 2016 Berserk TV series: Episode 1
« on: July 01, 2016, 11:13:20 PM »
Thanks for the podcast guys! Overall you basically hit the nail on the head and I'm surprised you didn't discuss the animation or music choices, though I suspect it was to save on the run-time.

Personally I went into this as a very eager Berserk fan just excited for new material to be animated. The promotional pieces such as the trailer and posters had me wavering between really excited and terrified as there were a lot of questionable animation choices and I was really sad to see that the first episode didn't clean up as much as I hoped it would. The animation alone I think will scare a lot of people away, (as the movies have done exactly the same) I've never been a fan of 3D anime (ala RWBY) so to see it awkwardly meshed with 2D had me saddened. (They literally overlayed the shadows with a later of scribbled graphite to give it texture....a very jarring choice overtop of 3D character models). I see where they were going but I really hope that the series cleans up as it continues.

As far as the music goes, I'm not a fan of the intro/closing music at all, but I didn't mind the inclusion of some of the movies score remixed, it fit really well and despite taking the heavy metal route a bit too far, I was happy to hear familiar scores overall and found that moments where the movies soundtrack played were my favorites.

I also really enjoyed the sound of the Dragonslayer but they did overdo it a bit when he was chopping up the skeletons. I know they had a bit of armor on, but they were still majority bone...they weren't made of metal.

I will still eagerly tune in every week to see where it goes, overall a very choppy first episode but I look forward to seeing how they handle the rest of the series (and I look forward to hearing expanded musical scores!)

Those are pretty nice! Vary sharp and minimalistic -- but I like it!

One suggestion - perhaps add a bit of blood splatter on top of the Brand of Sacrifice in the first one? Just on the bottom right corner to make it look as if the blood splatter behind it also hit the brand as well (since it appears as a 3 dimensional object)

Also I love the colour gradation on the second one, and the scratches and detail really make it stand out!

Great work!

It's a shame to hear that there has been so much misfortune and bad luck with this statue! While I cannot afford it, (I collect more tattoos than I do statues now) I have admired it since it was announced, and it breaks my heart to see that it was packaged so poorly! (Pun not intended...)  :judo:

Working in a comic shop and collecting my own statues, I am aware of the investment and know all to well the heartbreak that comes when a statue is greeted with an unfriendly angle it was not designed to withstand.

I am sorry for all of those who have experienced this heartbreak (again, pun not intended), and I hope that the company will continue to support those who have been affected by this with patience and understanding -- and learn from their mistakes for the future!

Please do continue to keep this forum updated with any progress that has been made, and thank you for those who have shared thus far! It is one I have been following since the first post.

Anime Asylum / Re: New Berserk Anime for 2016

Personally, as I've said before, I think there's something very entertaining about the Berserk pachislot's over-the-top presentation. It's not something that belongs in a Berserk series trying to remain representational, but it nonetheless makes me laugh enjoyably whenever I see it.

I whole heatedly agree with you, there is indeed a very "sugar rush" like type of excitement I get when watching it. It's like I'm a kid in a candy shop, it's just an overload of awesome and explosions, it's just so over the top!
I just recommend you don't watch it full screen first thing in the morning after you wake up like I had done, hence the headache....

That video gave me a brain aneurysm. So much sensory overload!!
There are moments that I find appealing, but my brain needs rest after watching that...please don't let the anime have rainbow explosions.

A bold choice, indeed! :ubik: And very sweet of your boyfriend, too! I can only guess at how painful it was, but congratulations on sticking through it. Do you have any other Berserk-themed tattoos in mind?

Not at the moment, I have quite a few more ideas I'd like to work through first before I go back to Berserk (and need to save up the money)!
However, being my 4th tattoo, I knew Berserk was going to be one of the earlier ones, but now that it's "out of the way" I can do more areas of interest! (I will still likely go back to it though!)

Ouch, I bet. When I saw the pic, I winced when I saw it went near your hip bone. You've definitely got bigger balls than me.  I would totally wimp out.

As for the tattoo, I really like it. I especially love the brand's 3D effect. I might be mistaken because my phone's screen's so small, but it appears from the sketch that that wasn't part of the initial plan. Did the artist bring up that idea? Or did you come with it latter?

All in all, I think it looks great. The artist did an amazing job. Well worth all that pain. :)

Thanks!  I'm glad I didn't scare you off with the placement, and glad to hear you like it!

In regards to the design changes in the brand, I did originally suggest that red be included, but he suggested that it was "chunkier " and faded out into the skin and I went with it! He also suggested the shadow as I was under the gun and completely agreed. Without it, it looked a bit empty. I was pretty laid back with the suggestions he had for me, I basically pitched him the idea and sketch and he modified it after the fact (but I made sure my boyfriend approved as well so I wasn't going crazy)  after all, my boyfriend actually paid for this tattoo as his Christmas present to me!

I plan on getting a lot more tattoos down the road (I have two more planned this year for sure, [back of my neck and the start of a full sleeve ]) but this will probably be the most hardcore tattoo I'll get in my lifetime.  Hard to top, that's for sure!  :guts:

Berserk Miscellaneous / Re: Berserk Tattoo
« on: January 05, 2016, 06:32:39 AM »

Oh boy...where do I even start.

I've wanted a Berserk tattoo for YEARS now, and always knew that it would be the Brand of Sacrifice. Not very original in the Berserk fandom, I know, but it's a staple of the series and I fell in love with its design and meaning so I just KNEW that I couldn't get anything else. (Yet.)

So when it came to placement, naturally I wanted it on the back of my neck where Guts has it. The purist in me wanted it no other way. However, that placement seemed unoriginal to me and I wanted to be a bit different. I was not bold enough to put it where Casca has it (and may yet want to save that skin for a chest piece should I be so inclined to do so down the road) and nothing else seemed to fit properly.
Then my boyfriend suggested....well...the lower region.
Immediately I fell in love with the idea. How very immodest and rebellious of me, yet Slan would most certainly love it!  :slan:

I had to do it, but I wanted to add my own flare to it, so I sketched out a very rough concept, sent it away to a tattoo artist, and 4 days later there I was.

The sketch had A LOT more going on than I got, but I added a lot of flare so he could pick elements that worked best with the space and my body. I may go back to add more later on, but for right now, I can wait.

NSFW (It IS censored, but be warned. It's still pretty boorish.)

I am incredibly happy with how it turned out, and aside from one or two touch ups to do later on it healed incredibly well and I couldn't be happier with it! (FYI, the placement isn't uneven, I just held my hips weird when taking the photo, hence the angle!)

The pain was...not as bad as I thought. However, with that being said, it was not comfortable.
This is my 4th tattoo, but easily the most painful so far. My other tattoos have moments where they don't hurt at all -- this one, however, was almost always uncomfortable at LEAST.
Though I can tell you, (and so can my boyfriend whose hand I was crushing) that the last 20-30 minutes were hell on earth. I was so raw and sore, I was crying at some parts (particularily the lowest region and nearest the hip bones. NOT FUN!!)

Overall, if you're thinking about a tattoo below the belt, make sure you're ready for the pain past the 2 hour mark. That's when it SUCKS!!

Let me know what you guys think!  :guts:

Well damn guys, I just opened my package after picking it up from the post office, and this ones'a doozy! Thank you so much, Jackolyn!!

The lady at the post office handed me my parcel (which was enormous) and when I rushed home to open it, this was what was inside:

 :void: :void: :void:

It's a large picture. I didn't get out any measuring tape, but by my estimation it's around 30 inches long. And sadly, I don't think the photo really captures the texture of the piece -- the black is velvety and richly colored, and the white lovingly (eerily?) captures all of the little details of Void's design. If I were at, say, an anime convention and saw something like this being sold, I would not be sure if I could afford something that clearly had been made with so much attention to detail. Maybe I'll take some detail shots later!

So with that said, thank you very very much Jackolyn for your wonderful gift! I'm buying a frame for this guy ASAP!

Oh, and my mom's cat loves the packaging, by the way.

I'm so happy you like it! Sorry it arrived late, I sent it off on the 15th and had my fingers crossed but alas twas the season!  :void:

It's actually airbrushed on black suede illustration board, with a bit of white conte' and black charcoal for some drawing details to tighten it up. I've fallen in LOVE with that board, it's perfect for airbrushing on, and very forgiving!
It took me only around 3 hours or so to put together, but I sure was sad to send it off! I'm very pleased with how it turned out!

Please do post a picture once you have it framed! I would love to see it!

I got my present from Grail!!! What a lucky soul am I! I didn't take any photos sadly, but I am simply overjoyed!

I got volume 33 of Berserk: one more closer to finishing my collection!! Only 8 more to go!
I also got a League of Legends card and a B-E-A-Utiful framed photo of Captain Jack Sparrow!! (I'm a bit of a Pirates of the Caribbean nut)

Thank you very much!! I hope my recipient has gotten her gift!!  :void:
