Wasn't there another global shot shown where part of a pseudo Africa and Madagascar is seen?

Maybe he wanted to do a manga so Western that nothing east of Turkey even exists.

The Kushan's are pretty damned Indic/Persian (also named after a real Central Asian/North Indian empire).

There were some guys saying it left some sticky stuff on the cover and someone even ripped piece of the cover, I don't wanna risk. :serpico:

They're bullshitting you, there's nothing to worry about the stickers at all.

The lighter themes (kiddie stuff) in Berserk used to piss me off.

I'm amused that you associate "lighter stuff" with being inately "kiddie".

The witch had some evolution but i still can't take that character serious, she's so out of place. It was like BAM! Here's a kid who's a witch with a robe and a pointy hat.

I don't get what's out of place, or how "sudden" you seem to think her appearance was.

After all you've been through while reading the series, how are you suppose to believe in a character like that in the world of Berserk?

From the moment Puck existed. In other words, Chapter One.

So in conclusion, i can't really connect with the story when there's ALOT of fantasy involved. It does nothing for me, nor in fights, whenever. I'm not that big of a nerd or fanboy.

Because clearly you have to be a nerd or fanboy to not be bothered by these things.
It sounds like your issue isn't actually with these elements but with some silly sense of being afraid to enjoy them.

I believe that fantasy produces a bigger inpact, and it's more ominous, when it's used in moderation, like we've seen so effectively in the past.

Exactly how do you make a merging of planes into a moderate thing.
I don't think you understand how dramatic an event this is, how would a massive semi-apocalyptic event be ominous.
It's supposed to be over the top.

I don't know man, the coast next to the island doesn't really seem to fit to me. It's too flat, not indented enough (sorry, I'm not sure how to say this more clearly).

Your saying that the east African coast is indented and can't see it in the picture?
It's hard to tell the exact contours of the Africa landmass because of all the clouds, but it actually looks pretty indented to me (judging by the dark shading between the clouds), and the Madagascar shape is pretty uncanny.

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if there were some similarities with our world, but I don't expect the Berserk world to be exactly the same. If we're lucky we might be able to see it more clearly with the full episode, but somehow I have the feeling Miura won't reveal too much.

Oh I'm not saying that due to having our geography that means it will have all the same anything else, that's already self evident for all sorts of reasons.

If I'm right about the geo identification it looks like Midland is around Germany/Poland given the epicenter of the light.

Honestly I don't think we can see much. What parallels have you found?

One shot seems to resemble the northern tip of Great Britain and a portion of southern Scandinavia, but that's pretty interprative on my part.

What ISN'T though is the very clear Africa and Madagascar we get in the other page.

Call me crazy but I was most fascinated by how it looks like Berserk's geography is the same as ours.

Character Cove / Re: Azan and his reaction to...
« on: June 09, 2009, 05:48:53 AM »
OP your talking like Azan was a fanatic through and through, he's not unlike Farnese in that he found his way toward religion as a reaction to events in his life (he says it was something like people he was protecting betraying him).
He had very obviously been shaken from his faith after Albion and even said as such.

Worst of series doesn't mean bad, just comparitively.

It has less substance for my buck then most of the rest. I'm not so fond of nearly pure battle volumes (see also 25).

I think it's pretty obvious they'll raise the price because they'll start being stalled by catching up to Miura not long after.

I just wish it didn't have to be 31, that's like the worst volume in the series.

Guts is going to have to go through some super powerup if he even wants to get to Skull Knight's level of not succeding.

Hmm yeah, i suppose its unlikely that that regime change having an effect on the Bakiraka is unlikley (even though we don't know how long ago Ganishka became king/emperor...)

Its interesting that Ganishka sacrificed his son to become an apostle. Perhaps its a misconception on my part, but i thought that you generally had to sacrifice something close or important to you for the God Hand? If Ganishka was always out and about and conquering and such, why would his son, an object of fear for him, be important enough to sacrifice?

Ganishka was out and about partly because of his strong feeling towards his son and wife, his fear and I guess understanding of the circle of violence going on in the court. It also says something about how his son looked "exactly like him".
Whether he ever made a relationship with his son or not, he inarguably had massive feelings toward him of one sort or another.

I guess Skull Knight will deliver "the wound" or whatever that was, I kind of doubted Ganishka would be capable even with this transformation.

No one said anything about "shout outs", but is this not being influenced by current events?

"When you're a cartoonist and working at home you sit at your desk pretty much all day. You get most of your information about the world from the news on TV. I think that's how most cartoonists spend their days. And then I start to see the whole picture of my point of view towards all the problems that are happening in the world."

Be that as it may.

That doesn't make there any conscious connection whatsoever between Griffith and Obama.

I wasn't serious, it was for fun. As I said.

If you think about it from the perspective of a manga writer it's really not so weird. Especially one that's so influenced by current events.

I'm not saying the election itself is the coincidence, I'm saying a new world leader coming to power is. It just so happens we're about to have a new leader of a super power at the same time a new leader of midland. It is a coincidence. You can't deny that.

If you wanted to you could make lots of worthless corelations between billions of things with lousy justifications for connections.
But how about not gracing us with them.
Just a thought.

I see. Thx Aaz for the summary.

"it is that light that is my ____" What could we finish the sentence with?
-enemy
-goal
-destination
-opponent
-adversary
etc

"Destiny"

Yes I know, but artists and illustrators need to make a living and I haven't heard of many that are wealthy enough to keep their originals, which is why I am curious. But I promised Aaz I wouldn't keep this discussion going so I'll leave it there.

I'm pretty sure Miura does a best selling comic series on the side.

No seriously, did you really think this post through?

I have a hard time believing that Griffith is going to completely embrace this 'era of darkness' if the events happening now are any indication of how miserable it's going to be.  It doesn't make sense that he'd yearn so long for this kingdom if he were only going to let it go to shit.  He might be evil, but I think the era of darkness would put too large a stain on his trophy.

You think that Griffith is still going after a kingdom and nothing else?
Did you skip all the volumes between now and 11 or what?

I just read the translation, and damn, thats actually quite satisfying as a story direction.
Watching Matahachi atone for his mom's rampage and his own farce could be very interesting.
I love that he's shaved both beard and goofy hair piece.
