Shootin' the Breeze / Re: Do you believe in God?
« on: July 25, 2011, 03:46:29 AM »
I'm atheist, i was raised catholic. i began to seriously question my parents faith around the time i turned 17. Instead of tears, my mom would get really angry with me when i questioned her about the faith she had raised me with. But none of the answers i got from her were satisfactory, especially the ones dealing with the problem of evil. Most of the time, people will say, 'God works in mysterious ways' which is sorta insulting when u know 1000s of children die of starvation everyday while their parents pray for a miracle.

the way i see it, theres too much wrong with religion to see it as something worth worshiping. Science is not perfect but it knows that and tries really hard at correcting its own mistakes, something that religions do not do. That means that eventually, scientists will find the answers. i can live without knowing all the answers, but its nice to know people are working on it.

and heres a quote that i really like, about living as an atheist:

“The only position that leaves me with no cognitive dissonance is atheism. It is not a creed. Death is certain, replacing both the siren-song of Paradise and the dread of Hell. Life on this earth, with all its mystery and beauty and pain, is then to be lived far more intensely: we stumble and get up, we are sad, confident, insecure, feel loneliness and joy and live. There is nothing more; I want nothing more.” —Ayaan Hirsi Ali

has anybody tried wheatpasting stuff to walls indoors?  would it damage the walls? I feel like it would be easier to put up this kind of poster

I think it was around 10 bucks, I'm not entirely sure though

no, it has to be cheaper, like 3-4 bucks for 16 black and white pages - but you should probably just call to make sure

Nice poster. I have a sunflower toy that dances when there's noise or music around it, exactly like the one painted on your door.
yeah, i have one too! i love that toy so i painted it on my door  :guts:

I printed a poster a few years ago using http://www.blockposters.com/
I didn't have a printer though so I went to kinkos, plus I wanted it done with a laser printer

The app that ive been using lately is 'Lose It'. If you really want to keep track of calories, this is the perfect app. it also measures things like protein, fat, carbs sugars etc. it comes with a database of foods and their nutrition content, you can even build recipes and add your own foods on there. Though i must say, it is time consuming logging everything in...

Berserk Miscellaneous / Re: Traditional and non-traditional mythology
« on: October 02, 2009, 07:13:13 PM »
yeah i guess what i was trying to say was that it has parallels

i was also thinking about the parallel between 5th world and the fifth member of the godhand (though the other four weren't reborn..) and  that the natural time and the unnatural time could be the earthly realm and the astral realm
 though thats really stretching it..

mann and here i was excited that Miura might have taken interest in what my heritage had to offer, heh heh

thanks for the reply

Sorry to be bringing up old threads but its title seemed appropriate. Im taking Latin American Art History Class and while studying came across an article on the Fifth World Myth. I know Wikipedia isnt that reliable but I think that what it says may have some similarities on how Femto's Incarnation* played out, could Miura have been influenced by this meso-american myth?

Quote
The coming Fifth World (where our present World is presented as the Fourth) is said to arrive following a cycle in nature affecting our entire Solar System, where our Earth births an egg (Mystery Egg, Hidden Egg) and then moves "up" within our system to reach its crowning place. All of the Earth's life is then said to be "raised" to its perfected-eternal form. Some tribes refer to this period of change as "Purification Time." During this period of purification, time is said to change where we must choose between the natural Time we have now upon our Earth (meant for us) and an unnatural time structure which removes us from nature and our opportunity to reach the Fifth World. It is told that everyone will have to choose between the two time frames—one leading to the Fifth World with our Earth, and the other (which will be very alluring, deceiving many) which will remove us from our Earth, taking us to oblivion.

Shootin' the Breeze / Re: Recommended Artists?
« on: July 17, 2009, 07:17:12 AM »
Goya, Caravaggio, Dali and Schiele are all some of my favorite artists!  I'd also like to share these:

Louise Bourgeois
Shes 94 years old and still making art, I just love her work! I saw a retrospective of hers at the MOCA awhile back

I also like Edvard Munch

I just found out about Lee Bontecou today. she uses materials like steel, canvas and copper wire to make these very interesting compositions.

Vincent Van Gogh is an all time favorite, oh and how could i forget Donatello's David :casca: heehee:
