Those guys are walking on thin ice here. If they mess this up I will personally hunt every single one of them down. ED is easily one of my favorite games of all time. Getting my hopes up for a sequel after all this time is almost cruel. Damn I hope this works out.

Anyway regarding the demo: The level seems to be the old church from ED, stone for stone. So it was actually quite a sight to see it crumble and reveal this hellish place beneath it (even though it wasn't real, but then again the entire thing was supposed to be a "dream within a dream").
I would have liked to see some combat though, see if they kept the old system of targeting various parts of the enemy and to cut them of.
Graphically the CryEngine should be capable of more, but I don't mind the style. For this title, the atmosphere is everything and if they nail that I'm not going to complain about anything (also, this is about as early work in progress as you can get).
In some places it seemed like like the old system of fixed camera positions was still in place, in others the camera rotated freely. I wonder if this is dependent on the scene or if they use a system that allows for both (of course, at this point it moot to speculate about things like this).

Great, now I'm in waiting mode again, meaning I can't wait to actually get my hands on this.
It seemed like the character was moving a lot faster in combat than out of it, it looked a bit more like Demon's Souls (which is good).
I'm not quite sure what to think about the new design of all the HUD elements, they all look a lot more "designed" and use more saturated colors (as does the entire game). I have nothing against color, but they even said that the HUD was not final, so I guess they will tweak it until it feels right.

Some concerns I heard from other people and why I think they are unjustified:
 - enemies not tough enough: the character in the demo was obviously overpowered for presentation purposes
 - lack of character customization: A lot of people see that so far, every time the player character is shown he looks pretty much like the one from the first trailer and they conclude that maybe you cannot customize your character anymore like you could in DS1. I don't think this is justified though, this is more likely done to not confuse new players about who they are going to be in the game (anyone remembering the same thing happening with Mass Effect 3? They only used male Sheppard in most of the promotional material for that very reason).

So I guess I will start a new Dark Souls Character soon, now that I'm hyped for this again... there has to be some kind of play style I haven't tried yet...

Does anyone enjoy symphonic power metal or neo classical / rock opera? I'm probably in the minority with this sort of music, but I love it. Bands like Rhapsody of Fire, Ayreon, Luca Turilli, etc...

I used to really like Rhapsody of Fire when they where still called just Rhapsody. The direction they went since then sadly didn't really fit with me. Currently I like Ancient Bards a lot.

Am knee deep in my favorite Christmas Present, Dark Souls on PS3 its everything I've heard and then some!  :ubik:
Be sure to grab the dlc, it has some of the best bosses in the game.

I got Asuras Wrath and Assassins Creed 3 for Christmas, currently playing the former. Pretty cool so far, I like the anime-series style to it. It could use a little bit more actual gameplay though.

Also got Mark of the Ninja and The binding of Isaac on Steams autumn sale.

It is. Galaxy 1 was already great, no question. But there where some problems with it:
The Hub World was tiresome to navigate after a while, no Yoshi, some stars in some worlds felt a little uninspired...
Galaxy 2 sorts all that out, but more than that it's level design is just on another level.
It is never out of Ideas and never ever repeats itself. In Galaxy 1 you sometimes had to do basically the same thing for different stars, maybe only running along a different path. In Galaxy 2 every single star has it's own unique idea.
The overall quality of everything is just higher.
On top of that, even the gimmicky co-op mode where a second player can assist the first one is improved.

I was about to pick Dark Souls (even managed to get the platinum trophy the other day), but then I remembered that other game that to me won this Generation. I might not have played it as long as other games, but no other game was this good while it lasted:

Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Most of even the greatest games have some sections, some parts, that end up annoying me at one point.
Looking at my runner ups:

Demon's Souls: pretty much perfect in every way, where it not for the weak ending (in terms of gameplay).
Dark Souls: To me a step up in most ways from Demon's, and the closest to flawless I can think of. ignoring the bed of chaos...
Metal Gear Solid 4: My first exposure to both the PS3 and the Metal Gear franchise, this one has really impressed me. It's incredible how well it holds up even today.
Mass Effect: It's funny, I only bought the ME games to see what the fuss about the ending of part 3 was all about. I even managed to not spoil me anything and got to play all three games back to back.
Zelda- Skyward Sword: If only the motion controls could read my mind... and FI could be turned off.

All those where great. Demon's Souls is only edged out by Dark Souls because it feels more fleshed out and overall more refined, also: Artorias of the Abyss.

But all of the above pale in comparison to Galaxy 2. Every second of that game was pure joy. Every Star in every world was fresh and fun, no dull moment ever. Perfect difficulty curve as well, I think I still haven't managed to get the very last Star... Now If only my WII would not make the sound of an electrical toothbrush every time it it spins a disc...

I wish more of the new fandom would spare more than a glance at the oldschool stuff.  The majority of it works fine la carte so it's not like you have to make a huge investment or catch up with an ongoing story.  The reluctance seems to be distaste for slower-paced storytelling.

That is actually my main problem with the old series.
It is incredible how much time the very first episodes spend to explain certain concepts. Dialogues are long and drawn out, points are repeated again and again... Now don't get me wrong, I know why that is. Back when it was made people didn't have the "sci-fi education" we have now, so of course they needed to take their time explaining things.

However there is another thing: The Doctor. Now I haven't seen most of the older episodes, but those I have seen all had one thing in common: I didn't like the Doctor. Especially the fact that he doesn't seem to be that smart or witty or in any way remarkable other than the fact that he is the Doctor and knows a lot of stuff. The new series just has much better Doctors (all subjective, of course).

I really like it. My favorite would be the final season with David Tennant as the Doctor.  Although I do think that if Christopher Eccelston had stayed for more more than one Season it might have been even better.
Looking forward to the second half of season 7, the first half was incredible (well, aside from the last episode... statue of liberty angle anyone?).

4 Kings on NG+ where incredibly tough for me as well. After countless tries, this is what I did in the end: Dressed up in full Smoughs Armor, equipped the BKGA+5 as well as the Greatshield of Artorias+5 and just tanked through everything the did, eating green blossoms whenever they would run out. That was before the BKGA got its damage reduced, so today I would probably just use my Demons Great Axe+15, which does way more damage per swing anyway.
I blocked the magic and most of the time simply poised through the normal attacks. Fully upgraded Giants would be even better for that then Smoughs.
Oh, and I think I did use Beatrice. I hear that you shouldn't use her in this fight as the kings get more life when summons are present and her damage doesn't offset this on NG+, but it worked out.

I've already done all of those except Ash Lake, which I still haven't really found, and Gwyndolin, which I have no intention of doing (since I believe that it requires offing my princess, WHO I AM SWORN TO PROTECT)  :azan: .

You don't need to kill Gwynevere to fight Gwyndolin, even if you kill him she stays, together with the sunlight. To gain access to him without killing her you need to find the darkmoon seance ring in the catacombs.

I don't get it, why are  you choosing not to level up? What's the benefit of intentionally gimping  yourself like that? Did I miss the secret entrance exam for the super-macho Dark Souls club?

I've beaten the game multiple times with different Chars, so I wanted to see how far I could get without leveling. To me the great thing about this is that I have to actually pay attention to what I'm doing again. Even on my NG++ char, bosses just die in a couple of hits. With the small one I really have to pay attention to every move and keep the concentration up. It kind of recreates the feeling I had when I played the game for the first time.

Are you using resin at all? It might up your damage just enough to be bearable. Or maybe an elemental weapon since at that level scaling means shit.

I use a fire longsword +10, so no resin for me. I started with the enigma, so all my stats are at 11. That of course means that I can't use that many weapons, that longsword is a good as it will get. I do have 8 great combustions and an ascended flame +3 which I could up to +5, but one shot of those takes longer than a stab does, so they are actually more risky. I got him down to about 25% last night but couldn't repeat that. Currently, if he wants to end the fight, he does :sad:

The Anor Londo archers are a pain. I always just run up untill I'm on the ledge, go directly towards the right one and try to roll through his arrows. If he draws his sword I try to parry him, knocks him of most of the time. If you are right at him, the left archer can't hit you anymore.

Tried Artorias with my lvl 6 for the last hour. I hit him for 87 dmg with a strong attack, and my concentration just won't hold up for the duration. One mistake and I have to heal, which means he will likely hit me while drinking so I have to heal again. Got him to about 50% on my best try...

At this point I think he would ultimately hold back. Especially if Casca and the others are present.

However, I think your second assumption won't hold up. The boy (and thereby Griffith, in this scenario), was able to stop berserker Guts just by standing in front of him in his astral form. He can simply teleport away for all we know (or how did he get to the branches in 331?). So I don't think He is that vulnerable.

That is the whole point. From the beginning, Guts was always fighting against increasingly "impossible to beat" enemies. And yet somehow he wins.

Dragonslayer and berserker armor might very well not be enough but just imagine what could be introduced that closes the gap in power eventually. Before Guts got this armor I certainly wouldn't have guessed he would some day plunge himself into the jaws of an island-sized Monster and kill it by slashing it's heart from the inside after cutting through it's stomach.
If I look at all the things that where introduced to the story that made it possible to pull that feat of, I can hardly wait to see what else will be introduced before the end of the series.

Actually I had no idea what to do when I met the woman mourning Artorias. I talked to her and she asked for Artorias's soul. I didn't read up on anything beforehand, so I gave it to her and got her daggers in return. Turns out I would have gotten them and more had I been a little more ruthless...
Well, now I have all her gear: Just blasted through Artorias (litterally) with my mage and this time I kept his soul.
Crystal soul spear actually makes the bosses quite easy, the Guardian was dead before I knew what happend :guts:

Got the DLC yesterday as well. Holy hell do i love the bosses! Only the Dragon remains now, but after spending 2 hours on Manus, I just visited him once and decided to call it quits for today.
No phantoms whatsoever, I like to solo Bosses at first. Sanctuary Guardian was a tough one, as I stubbornly refused to kill him until I got his tail... so few opportunities...

But Manus... damn you Manus! For me, he was the toughest boss ever. Aggressive, lots of hp, and attacks for every situation. Great fight.

Does anyone else thought of Guts in his berserker armor when fighting Artorias? To me it looked like Guts fighting in that thing against Grunbert. Dragging that sword behind him as if he cannot even lift it, only to go completely nuts in the next second.

My money is on a lot of 2 page spreads, which to me means Skellig won't be at the end of the episode, but rather we will see quite a bit of it, kind of like how Falconia was introduced.

Anyone know a good place to farm souls that is not a boss? I need a decent area just to kill some regular mobs for souls, I wish for an area like in 4-2 i believe in demon souls were you can just one shot the reaper with a bow and get 10k+ souls.  Could almost get 1mill in souls in an hour or under...oh that was the best place.

How far into the game are you?
Anor Londo is a good place to farm: Start on the bonfire at the spiral staircase inside the cathedral and work your way towards Ornstein&Smough, killing all the silver knights on the way.

Another Method would be in the forest: start at the Bonfire behind the hidden wall next the door you open with the crest of Artorias from Andre. Go through that door, engage all the forest NPC's and position yourself behind the stairs, so that you are right in the corner, the ledge to one side, the stairs to the other. The NPC's will run up the stairs, then try to fall down to you. If you position yourself right and raise your shield, the will be pushed over and behind you, falling off the ledge. Very effective in terms of souls per hour, but a little risky, sometimes the won't behave as planned and you have to fight them in that space. Can be a little nasty. Oh, and make sure you are not in the forest hunter covenant when doing this  :iva:

You'll have this figured out by now, but you should have key that fits into the door at the beginning of the dragon bridge, where you first met Knight Solaire. If not, take good look around the Parish.
That part had me a little disoriented at first as well. I remembered the guy at Firelink Shrine telling my something about the other bell being "down below", so I went to New Londo ruins, didn't end well...

Just finished Seath with my sorceress. Going through the game using the Dusk Ring (the one that gives more casts but halves HP) is something else. Those boars that guard the entrance to the archives were harder than some bosses, especially the second one, luring just behind the corner. It's getting to a point where everything one-shots my anyways, so I might as well equip the red tearstone ring. I am getting really good at dodging though :guts:

You can almost always just run past dudes to wherever you need to get to. It's not difficult at all.

Yeah, that is what I know now, but back then, on my first play through, I was really scared. It got better once I made it to the undead parish.
I pretty much blindly ran away from a baldur knight and just hoped to find a bonfire.
Luckily I took the right turns and ended up by the blacksmith. :guts:
That was when I realized I could just dash through sometimes. Somehow I never did that in Demon's Souls, I always slowly tanked my way through. But then again, in Demon's Souls I would not be limited to 5 (or 10) estus flasks, I could just stock up on grasses and go on forever...

I am finding it really hard to get into this game. I don't know why I really liked Demon souls but just cant get into this as much as I want to.

Maybe it's the absence of a Nexus? I know that I had this feeling during the first Moments of the game, that I somehow felt lost and didn't want to press on because of the bonfire system. I was afraid I'd end up stuck somewhere where I couldn't escape from. Turns out this is what you are supposed to feel and after a while you get used to it.
In Demon's Souls I could always just die and return to the Nexus to try another world or go to the blacksmith or whatever.

Currently playing a sorcerer and for the first time ever I chose the master key as  a starting gift.
Holy hell, it's insane how strong you can become before even the Taurus. I stayed level 3 for a long time, just ran around the world getting all sorts of upgrades and items. When I finally got to him, he was down in 3 shots. Now I somehow don't want to level up much at all, just to see how far I can go, but I also want to be summoned for bossfights and that is quite pain when you are way below the level range for a boss... Two weeks till the DLC, hurry up, time!

I wouldn't assume they would be using the same method as the boy, but since he's someone other than SK that now has a fast method of moving around, maybe there could be something at Skellig for the group to achieve something similar? Not entirely likely, but not entirely impossible.

I definitely think that they will leave Skellig by some other means than by ship. So far, Miura has never repeated himself in this manga. Another long trip over the ocean would seem a bit redundant, so I doubt it will happen. And if it happens, it will either be very short, or even more dangerous than the encounter with the sea god.
But I don't want to think too much about how they leave Skellig yet, they haven't even arrived and that arrival is the single most anticipated event since... well ever.

Anyway, what do you make of the boys look from below the moon?
I can't quite put my finger on it, but he looks... worried? Concerned?
Almost as if he knew something. How old do you think he his now, not in terms of actual years, but in terms of child development (can I say it like this?). He seems to grow up a lot faster than normal humans would.
