Shootin' the Breeze / Re:six general anime questions...
« on: December 20, 2002, 07:48:07 PM »
Ninja ressurection was crap, in my opinion. I thought they had cancled the project after the first part

Just checking, did it even have a story?

- Bob

Yar, they made 2 parts. The Revenge of Jubei and Hell's Spawn. I know this because in my younger days as an anime fan, I thought all anime was "sweet" so I bought both parts of NR. If you judge the anime on the description on the back of th box it sounds cool. But then you watch and it sucks.
The story deals w/ the Tokugawa Shogunate (sp?) trying to stop a rebellion by a new religious sect, those crazy Christians. Jubei is part of the Shogunate. Some guy who is the chosen one of God is the leader of the sect. Well, he turns evil and goes from savior to devil and Jubei has gotta stop him. Oh yah, lots of zombies and ninjas and blood and disturbing stuff, but nothing compaired to Berserk  ;). It may sound cool, but I tell ya what, it's not worth the time to watch, EVER.

Yar, the high point of my year. I saw it Wed. at noon, and the theater was packed. Helms Deep, jesus man, what an orgy of battle that was! Gandolf and the Ents etc were all amazing. Gimli was awesome too. C'mon he was funny as hell. "We dwarfs aren't good at running long distances, we're sprinters." or " Toss me, but don't tell the elf." Classic.  ;D And Gollum has to be seen to be believed, fo shizzy.

1. Jin_Roh is a very dark and complex story, and IMO one of the best movie/anime stories I've ever seen. A very depressing flim as well. It's a very heartfelt story of lonliness and trying to fit in, then realizing that you can't. Betrayals and double crosses happen in it, but never get too complicated. The dub is pretty good, I'd watch either dub or sub on this, it's all good to me.

2. I didn't like Twilight of the Dark Master that much. It seemed to have an intersesting back story that is explored for all of 5 minutes in the movies. As it is, the movie is a good effort, but to me it seemed like a half formed idea that wasn't complete. BTW, character designs were done by the same guy who did Vampire Hunter D.

3. Soul Taker is trippy man, the art is very different from what I'm used to. The story is decent. Worth watching IMO.

4. Yar, never seen it.

5. The BeBop HK set, is far inferior to the Bandai DVD's. I have all six dvds and my roomate last year had the HK set on 3 dvds. If yer only worried about the subtitles then you obviously haven't heard or care about inferior picture quality as well  ;).

6. I have both parts to Ninja Resurrection. Its nothing great, and as far as Drach said, its been cancelled, so the story is incomplete and the 2 parts aren't worth it.

puck would give famous "elf powder" :D

LOL, good one. "Elf powder". I can see it now, in the band's VH1 Behind the Music.

Narrator: "With all the elf powder abuse, the band descended into dark times. Then the band hit rock bottom as Guts trashed a hotel room then lost his arm in a motorcycle accident as he was running from the police and Griffith sacrificed the entire road crew to get a better record contract."  8)

why not a piccolo ?

Good call, but the piccolo sucks for a rock band. Oh well, I think Puck will become the guy who finds all the groupies and scores all the drugs for the band.

I need some suggestions. What the hell is Puck gonna play? the Kazoo? Mini-drumset  ;D. I dunno, I'm at a loss here. He needs a part in the band and I can't think of a damn thing that a tiny elf could play... ???

Hm, gues I'll still have to wait for the day that becomes funny.

Well its all a matter of opinion, but I think is always really damn funny. My sick and twisted sense of humor and mind seems to have a lot in common w/ what SA is all about  ;D.

Man, that Kelpie reminds me off Joe Camel.... I dunno why. The picture also makes me think that the Kelpie should be smoking as well.  8) Remember kids, smoking is only for cool people and Kelpies.

i guess i just really hate the dub actors.

Man, I hate the dub actors too. I find the dub painful to listen to, mainly because Guts english voice is horrible. Shit, they sound like the voice actors who did G.I. Joe  :P. Anyhoo, I'll stop bitchin about the dub, its  been done to death already. Besides, I appreciate a good dub more than most people do  ;).

watch the movie Cross Roads to see what I mean.

Shit, I almost forgot to explain. This movie IS NOT THE BRITNEY SPEARS MOVIE. In fact, it stars the Karate Kid and deals w/ the blues and having a guitar duel at the end w/ the devil's guitar player (Steve Vai). The movie is classic old-school and anyone who is or who claims to be a guitar shredder who hasn't heard of this movie before must see it right now, just for the duel at the end. That Paganini shit at the end  :o, damn man. Guess I'm still writing here...  ;)

As a musician myslef, and being bored as hell, I decided to create The Berserk Band w/ The Band of the Hawk Horn Section for fun.

Who would be in your Beserk Band?

The greatest force in rock history. They WILL rock your fuckin socks off. Currently playing in select Midland bars and ritual sacrifices.

Griffith: Lead Guitar, Vocals- He's got that whole Steve Vai vibe goin on man, watch the movie Cross Roads to see what I mean. And he appears to be channeling this Freddy Mercury vibe as well.
Guts: Bass- Face it, Guts is the classic bass player.
Zodd: Drums- Just an Apostle version of John Bonham mixed w/ Ginger Baker.
Wyld: Percussion- He struck me as a crazy percussionist
Rakshas: 2nd Lead Guitar- Duel lead guitars are a must and he fits the whole Buckethead masked man/alien axe player category.
Judeau: Keyboards- I dunno, hell, even Wings had a keyboard player, this band needed one too.
Corkus: Rhythm Guitar-Uhhh, he reminded me of G.E. Smith, the old SNL band leader. Yes, I know I'm crazy.
Rickert: Tamborine- Too much of a pansy to play a real instrument.
Casca: Wood Block- Randomly hits block of wood, runs around like a crazy person for most of the show. ;)
With The Band of the Hawk Horn Section with a Special Apperance by Void on Harmonica

Thats a tough one man. Xenogears is one of the greatest RPGs ever. I would say check out Chrono Trigger, its kinda from back in the day (SNES days), but the story is awesome w/ all the time travel and cool characters. I still consider Chrono Trigger one of the best RPGs ever as well.

Story-wise and RPG-wise, my personal favorites are the Suikoden series. Most people love the series or hate it. I love it, Suikoden 3 is awesome and I think it has the best story in the series so far.

Some other rpgs that have good stories IMO are: Persona series and Star Ocean series.

Shootin' the Breeze / Re:Ghost in the Shell vs. Metropolis
« on: November 11, 2002, 05:13:21 PM »
Wasn't that Metropolis movie from the 20s?

Yes it is. Fritz Lang's Metropolis is what you're thinkin off. I'm talking about the anime based off of Osamu Tezuka's 1949 manga also called Metropolis that was released a few years ago.

Shootin' the Breeze / Ghost in the Shell vs. Metropolis
« on: November 11, 2002, 05:29:20 AM »
This is far from Berserk, but I think it's interesting all the same. I've watched both movies several times and was at a loss at which one I preferred more/thought was a better movie. I decided to conduct a trial experiment on how I would judge future animes to come. Over the course of one week, I watched each movie 3 times total, 2 times sober 1 time while I was high. The results were as follows:

Metropolis is the clear winner. Ghost in the Shell was the early favorite because of its action and familiar anime style, but each time I watched Metropolis, I got something new outta of it everytime. Each time I watched, I began to realize new depth to the plot. The movie is far more subtle in its message and theme of robots and human feelings/what makes you truly alive than Ghost In the Shell. I felt like GItS didn't have the soul that Metropolis did. Anyhow, I could talk for hours about how I think Metropolis is awesome and how Tezuka is a genius and all but I won't.

I feel that Metropolis is a better movie than Ghost in the Shell. What do ya'll think? Which did you like better?

« on: November 08, 2002, 06:00:08 PM »
Sigur Ros, eh, they're all right. If they hadn't become the critics darlings, especially for Rolling Stone, I'm sure not many of us would even know about them. I dig some of their songs off of the new album (), but I gotta say, that just like their first album, they gotta rid of all the Wally the Whale solos, it gets old real fast for me. Playing the guitar w/ a bow is old news to me, hell, Jimmy Page was doin it 30 years ago  ;)

Could it be that Miura didn't want us see that Gaiseric too had lost a eye?

Whoa man, whoa! Are you implying what I think you're implying? :o!
It's crazy, but I'll be damned, it got me thinking seriously about the whole Gaiseric deal. I must say, your idea is very awesome speculation, and should probably be discussed by people truly knowledgable on the subject, which wouldn't be me at all lol. If you've got anymore ideas and speculations on this, I'd like to see it started in the Just Plain Speculation section. Great theory, it should be discussed further. :D

Alright, after a 42 round grudge match, Mr. T has claimed victory. After winning his match, Mr. T vows to defeat any suckas who challenge him.
The last thing T said to me before he jumped into the A-Team van was this: " I ain't gettin on plane, foo!"

There is no doubt in my mind that Mr. T is the ultimate strong one that Zodd seeks.  ;)

"Quit the jibba habba, foo!"
