News & Not News / Robin Williams passes away at 63
« on: August 11, 2014, 10:15:20 PM »

The county coroner's office suspects a suicide

The comedian and actor Robin Williams has died at 63, according to police in Marin County, Calif.

A statement from the assistant chief deputy coroner of Marin County announced on Monday that the division “suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made.”

“Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late,” read an official statement. “This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.””

I've been entertained by him for my entire life, this is truly sad news.

Movies, TV, Books & Music / New Ghost in the Shell 2013
« on: January 15, 2013, 01:19:07 PM »
The February issue of Kodansha's Monthly Young Magazine is announcing on Wednesday that the Ghost in the Shell Arise anime will launch in 2013. Kazuchika Kise will serve as the chief director, and Tow Ubukata is supervising and writing the series scripts.

This is some crazy news, but I'm feeling pretty cautious about it considering Production IG's track record lately. They seem to have a completely new director working on it who has only done animation direction in the past. Despite that, I'm still pretty excited to see how this turns out.

I don't really like the small glimpse we get right here of the Major and they have somebody who isn't Yoko Kanno doing the music. Come on IG...

Berserk Miscellaneous / Miura Tribute for Hajime no Ippo 1000th Chapter
« on: December 02, 2012, 11:12:09 PM »
Wow! I didn't know Miura helped George Morikawa during college, it's really nice to see him draw Takamura. If you guys haven't watched or read Ippo you should check it out, despite being so long the beginning parts so far have been top tier.

EDIT: Also for Griff and crew, here's the one Inoue did as well:

AURORA - There is one suspect in custody after 14 people were shot and killed at the Century 16 Movie Theaters at the Aurora Town Center.

There were at least 50 people injured to Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates.

Oates says 10 died at the theater and four died at the area hospital.

Nicole Williams, with Swedish Medical Center, says the hospital was allerted to a mass casualty incident at 1:15 a.m. Friday.

Williams says the hospital was told to prepare for at least 20 patients.

According to witnesses, the shooter kicked in the emergency exit door in theater 9, threw some sort of disorienting smoke bombs and started shooting.

The Aurora Town Center is in the 14000 block of East Alameda Avenue in Aurora.

Jesus Christ, this is terrible.

Movies, TV, Books & Music / New Sailor Moon Animation in 2013
« on: July 07, 2012, 12:41:00 AM »
The idol group Momoiro Clover Z, publisher Kodansha, and creator Naoko Takeuchi announced on Friday that a new anime adaptation of Takeuchi's Sailor Moon manga is being produced. The new anime series is aimed for release next summer, and Momoiro Clover Z will perform a theme song.

Momoiro Clover Z made the announcement during a live event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the manga. Momoiro Clover Z sang the first Sailor Moon anime's theme song "Moonlight Densetsu" at the event via a live video feed from France, where they are guests of Japan Expo.

Well, this is going to make Grail freakin' happy. Is Japan in nostalgia mode right now? New Kenshin, JoJo, Hunter x Hunter, Saint Seiya, Berserk( :puck: ), FF7 PC rerelease, and now we get this.

A television anime adaptation of Hirohiko Araki's JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga has been green-lit for an October premiere. The announcement was made during the Thursday press conference for the upcoming "Hirohiko Araki Jojo Exhibition." A PlayStation 3 game called JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle was also announced:

I know I'm mostly the only huge JoJo fan here, but I'm as excited for this as I was for the Berserk anime announcement, with the same amount of wariness. BUT A FIGHTING GAME BY THE GUYS WHO DID THOSE ACTUALLY GOOD NARUTO CEL SHADED FIGHTING GAMES? THAT I can be excited as fuck for. :ubik:

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that a good ol' Tezuka classic has a drive trying to get it reprinted. You can get some awesome stuff based on how much you donate, especially if you're a fan of his. It even includes the GN itself(about 500 pages) if you donate 30 or more. Check it out, this could also be your chance to read some Tezuka for the first time.

News & Not News / Anime Director Satoshi Kon passes away...
« on: August 24, 2010, 08:18:51 PM »
This is breaking news just coming in as I type this, emanating from the Twitter account of GAINAX's Yasuhiro Takeda and later confirmed by Madhouse's Masao Maruyama via the Otakon committee, but the renowned and much-admired anime director Satoshi Kon passed away yesterday at the age of 47.

During his life, Kon was responsible for a numer of high-profile animated efforts featuring his distinctive themes and styles, not least the movies Perfect Blue and Paprika, as well as the Paranoia Agent television series.

Video Games / G4
« on: July 12, 2009, 11:56:02 PM »
What do you guys think of G4? I used to love the channel back when it was called Tech TV and it was actually about video games and tech stuff and also played anime at night. What happened to shows like Cinematech? I used to be able to stay up all night watching the awesome stuff they had on. I think Adam Sessler is the only person I still respect on that channel, I can't stand Kevin Ferrara or Morgan Manjaw.

Berserk Miscellaneous / Make your own Dark Horse Berserk Synopsis!
« on: July 12, 2009, 12:09:04 AM »
Create your own little paragraph or so to put on the back of the Dark Horse releases of Berserk. Use this for reference:
I don't see how any of us could possibly do better than those elegantly written pieces of... greatness, :troll: but we should try.

Written by Kentarou Miura, Berserk, ain't no walk in the park with your little ol' grandmother. Unless that park happens to be in the Ninth Layer of Hell, and your grandmother happens to be an eight foot tall demon with a mouth full of razor sharp teeth! It's black-hearted dark humor and bloody gore fests will leave you wishing you hadn't forgot to visit the Depends aisle when you went grocery shopping! Prepare for you doom tiny humans!

Video Games / Best Video Game Lines Ever
« on: July 07, 2009, 03:15:01 AM »
Post your favorite quotes from video games. They can range from hilariously bad to philosophically deep(do those exist? :ganishka:)
I'd like to start off with my favorite from Resident Evil 4 right after the church bells ring and all the ganados back off from fighting Leon, the line he utters right before the title is:
"Where's everyone going? Bingo?"
resident evil

My work doesn't let anybody have that weekend off, but I'm luckily working early Sunday morning and the con ends Monday night(which I have off as well). Hope I can maybe see some of you guys down there. Here's the site for those of you who live in California but don't know about this yet.

Shootin' the Breeze / The good, the bad, and the ugly
« on: April 06, 2009, 03:16:34 AM »
Use this simple format to tell us about your day or some random events. The results should be humorous.
The good: I found a Sour Patch Kid on my bed  :guts:
The bad: It was accompanied by copious amounts of that sour sugar crap that's in the bag with it.
The ugly: I haven't had Sour Patch Kids in over a week.  :isidro:
Hopefully we see some interesting stuff in here to help tide us over until the next episode is released or something else interesting happens.

Video Games / Games everyone should play
« on: April 03, 2009, 03:15:14 AM »
Name off a few games you think everybody should play at least once. Maybe not your favorites exactly, but ones you think have something to offer regardless of somebody's prejudices against certain genres/developers. My personal favorite three games are Final Fantasy 6, Deus Ex, and Mother 3, but I think Deus Ex is definitely a game everyone should try out at least once. Earthbound for SNES is another one everyone should play and most people probably missed out on due to being in the shadow of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6. It invokes a certain nostalgia whenever I play it and makes me wish that when I younger I would've had a chance to explore unknown places like Ness and his friends did. Oh, and another great game everyone should play is Full Throttle for PC, an adventure game by Lucas Arts about a biker trying to save his gang. What's your guy's input on these games, and what games would you add to the list?

Sorry if my rambling format causes your brain to faze in and out of focus while you're reading  :troll:.
Also, if you haven't played Deus Ex, get it now, and if you have, REINSTALL LIKE THE MOTHER FUCKING FIST OF THE NORTH STAR!
