Shootin' the Breeze / Will you be voting this year?
« on: January 09, 2012, 07:25:02 PM »
Which GOP candidate will you support?  Or will you vote for Obama?  Or not at all?

I've only been able to vote for one election, but I've never been into politics.  I've never felt strongly that I really agree with a candidate and his stance.  But the more I read and hear about Ron Paul the more I find his views refreshing.  My primary draw toward him is his foreign policy (We shouldn't start wars, we should make friends instead of killing their civilians) and his stance on social liberties and smaller government.  He has some radical ideas but I think we need radical ideas to really shake up what we've become. (a huge, corrupt printing press that has its priorities very out of order)

What do you think?

Shootin' the Breeze / Do you believe in God?
« on: July 25, 2011, 01:03:03 AM »

I was raised a christian.  Unlike my mother, father and sister I was a very luke warm christian.  Right now I would describe myself as agnostic.  My girlfriend and her brother are strong athiests.  Being exposed to a different way of thinking has inspired doubt in my heart.  I've been doing a lot of reading on evolution and watched tons of debates on the subject.  I still have a lot of unawnsered questions, most of which are common problems like the "Problem of evil", the likelyhood of the theory of evolution, Noah's arc shenannigans, etc.

Talking with my mother about my concerns brought her to tears.  I hate that.  I wish I could continue to ignore the things that don't make sense, like I have for a long time.  But more than that I want to be honest with myself.  I'm tired of meandering softly on the issue.

So, next logical step?  Consult the great thinkers of of course!  I would love to hear your voice.  Do you believe in a God?  Were you raised in a religious environment?  If not, why?  If so, what is your reason?  Does faith play a big role in your life?  What would you reccomend for someone in my position?

I've seen similar threads burst into flame on lesser forums.  Please be respectful.  Engage!

Video Games / Your first Video Game?
« on: March 20, 2011, 10:30:11 PM »

I thought it would be cool to hear stories about your first Video Game.  What was your first contact with the Medium?  The first game you "beat"?  How did your parents feel about it?

My story began walking around Sears with my family when I spotted a TV hooked up to a demo SNES.  I had no idea what it was, and there was nobody around it.  Then there was this thing attached to the system, which had all kinds of buttons.  Instinctively I grabbed the controller and started playing with it (I was fairly young) and found out that you actually controlled what was on the screen.

"It's freaking magic!" I thought to myself.  You can actually move this little red guy on the screen!!! (Who I would soon find out to be Mario) This had to be the coolest thing I'd ever seen in my tiny little life.  He looked so lonely sitting atop one of the ghost houses, with nobody to guide him.

Terrified, I ran from the Boos chasing me down.  Little did I know facing them would freeze them in their tracks.  Then I fell into a pit, and had to start over.  This puzzled me.  Why would they take away my fun?  Running back and forth was invigorating.  All too soon my hands were pried away from the controller, there was important adult business to attend to.

But it was too late. :femto: Seeds of destruction had already been planted.  Somewhere within my Grandma's mind, she sought to pervert my innocence using the latest in brain rotting video game technology.  My next birthday I was presented with the finest of all surprises - a shiny new SNES!  I was ecstatic.  Now it was really too late.  This little plumber would become a stepping stone into the future.  I even had my grandma fashion me a respectable raccoon tail and Mario train hat.  Spending afternoons destroying invisible blocks in the front yard was all too fun.

(Purple button version = Awesome.  It's too bad my old system has since disappeared)

In the following years I would go through similar phases with Sonic, Star Fox and Pokemon.  These characters were the superheroes of my childhood.  Mario was my superman.  You could try to tell me otherwise, but I was quite convinced all I needed to fly was a cape and my trusty Mario hat.  As much as I loved video games as a kid, I still had a very balanced life growing up.  One thing I'm thankful for is how involved my parents were.  They could've easily thought these games were bad for me, but instead they encouraged it.  They played my SNES after I had gone to sleep.  My Mom even stayed up late helping me beat Bowser (she was better than I was back then)

If they weren't so encouraging I might not have the same love for the Industry I do now.  I might've been some boring person who doesn't play games because they're for children.  Sometimes I still look at games and think "Wow, this is so cool! You can actually control what's happening on the screen!"

Do you guys have any fond tales of recollection?  Share them here! :azan:

Video Games / NGP (PSP2) Announced
« on: January 27, 2011, 11:23:46 PM »
Sony has announced the NGP (Next Gen Portable, Damn that's catchy)

It a PSP! They've announced that it will feature games like Uncharted and Killzone.  I hope history doesn't repeat itself, because this is sounding a lot like the DS. vs. PSP.  Power/Gadget tech vs. Gimmick/More games.

"At PlayStation Meeting 2011 in Tokyo today, Sony officially announced the successor to the PSP. It's codenamed "NGP" ("Next Generation Portable"), and it appears to have an answer for many of the common complaints about the PSP platform -- and then some. As you can see, its body looks very much like a PSP, but it's larger than the PSP-3000, since it's packing a five-inch multitouch OLED screen at 960×544 (four times the pixels of the PSP). Here's what else we know about the hardware:

two analog sticks (yes, you read that correctly: sticks, not nubs like on the PSP -- they rise above the surface of the device)
3G, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and GPS radios
the same motion sensors (three-axis accelerometer, three-axis gyroscope) as the PlayStation Move
a multitouch touchpad on the rear of the unit that's the same size as the front screen
front- and rear-facing cameras
a quad-core PowerVR SGX543MP4+ GPU"

Shootin' the Breeze / Merry Christmas Skullknight!! '10
« on: December 25, 2010, 03:40:43 PM »
Hey Skullknight! I thought I'd start a christmas thread.  It would be a shame not to have one on christmas!

Are you guys getting a well deserved break? Tell your christmas stories!

I woke up to my little sister being way too excited that Santa had come, and overall it was a super Cliche, but very fun christmas morning.  We always open gifts in the morning.  Some of our extended family flew in from mexico to spend the new-year with us.  So that's cool.

I also got these from my sister.  Jealous? Yeah, thought so.

Merry Christmas!!

Video Games / The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
« on: December 13, 2010, 02:35:36 AM »
Okay, I think this deserves it's own thread, even though we've got a while before launch.  For those of you that haven't heard, the fifth installment of the series was revealed at the VGA awards, and will take place in the mountainous region of Skyrim.

Here's the teaser trailer.

The game is slated for release next year on 11.11.11

As a huge fan of the Elder Scroll series, I'm totally stoked to see the announcement of the new installment.  I had a total nerd moment when I watched the trailer for the first time.  It was topped off by super high fives with my friends.  Dragons are a fascinating choice of theme for the new game and should prove very interesting.  I'll try to keep the thread updated with big news.  Anybody as excited as I am?

Video Games / Halo: Reach
« on: May 02, 2010, 07:08:09 AM »
Is the "new topic" button new? I don't remember it being on the right like that, it looks nice.

Oh yeah! The Beta for Halo Reach begins tomorrow! I'm not going to be playing, but will be purchasing the final game...I'm pumped about seeing a story told over a team of spartans, and the overall fall of Planet Reach..Bunjie is headed in the right direction I'd say, although there are few details about the campaign.

Shootin' the Breeze / Wizard People Dear Reader
« on: October 25, 2009, 07:49:36 PM »
I came across this just the other day when a friend showed it to me.  I was wondering if any of you guys have seen this.  I couldn't stop laughing through the whole thing.  Brad Neely voice-overs the whole movie of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone.  You can download all the audio (two tracks) off his website here:

So sync it with the movie, and hit back some cold ones for a great time.  Or just listen to the audio.  There is some language. :femto:

Here's a youtube preview:

Apologize in advance if there's some pot-heads out there this offends.  :judo:

Creation Station / Aphasia's 3D/Painting Madness.

Skip to page 5 to see the newest stuff.

Hey guys! How cool that there's a whole berserk community.  I've read the majority of the manga, just have a few chapters to go before I finish it (at least what's done, that is)

Anyways, I'm a student studying digital art and media.  My class project requires everyone to create a game character.  I've decided to do Skull Knight, just because.  I basically want to make this as badass as possible, and would love any critiques concerning accuracy, armor, or anything else you think sucks.  I'm still working on the low-res mesh, but once I finish, I'll take it into Zbrush and pimp it out with normal and or/displacement maps.

I've collected a lot of reference, and even have a real skull to model from, but If anyone has any pics of the skull nights upper arm/upper leg/ hand armor, I would appreciate it.  Those are the parts that are kind of shielded by the cape.  Back shots would be appreciated too.

Here's what I have..
