Video Games / Atari VCS
« on: May 30, 2018, 03:03:34 PM »
I took the plunge and pre-ordered the Atari VCS console. I got the regular black version by itself and a set of remote controls because it was the cheapest option in the campaign.

They have 2 consoles offered - the black regular version called Onyx (comes with a 30ish% discount if bought by itself) and the Collector's version (front wooden like look for the panel).

It's currently available through an Indiegogo page -

I haven't kept in touch with the gaming market or insights and I'm curious to know why Atari would go through an Indiegogo for such a release ... which kinda seems to me as something that would be popular and would garner enough orders or pre-orders on its own.

Shootin' the Breeze / Milan trip
« on: May 09, 2017, 05:52:33 PM »
When it comes to taking time off, I get 2 weeks in a year (most times I squeeze in a 3rd week to take advantage of 5 sick days that I never take) and I've always gone back home to visit the family. I've been to Toronto twice because of family and that's about it. So, I'm kinda excited to hit up Milan this September. Why Milan ... because return tickets were $350 and it was one of those things where you had to pick up the ticket the same day you saw the deal otherwise you wouldn't see it again. I’m more of a mountain/ beach/ outdoorsy/ the less the people the better kinda guy but an opportunity to explore any city I won’t shy from.

We fly out on the 20th and leave Milan the afternoon of the 27th. I’d love to spend more of my time in Milan itself but the group I’m going with are more seasoned in their travels, some already having been to Florence, and there’s their take of what the trip should look like. We’ll be booking our rooms together, so it’s one of those things where I’m going to go with the flow I guess (?) … but I’d love to check other things out if there’s other stuff worthy of checking out. Here’s the plan of the trip so far per a mock-up of the itinerary the group came up with. I have zero input on it thus far …

Thursday – we check out DaVinci’s last supper and a place called Duomo.
Friday – leave for Florence in the morning and stay all of Saturday.
Sunday – leave for Cinque Terre and stay all of Monday.
Tuesday – come back to Milan or Lake Como.
Wednesday afternoon, we fly back.

So I’m here for recommendations from any of you who’ve been to or around Milan! As a tourist, I wouldn’t know if a food-place is legit or one of those tourist traps featured on most “Top restaurants to eat at in Milan” websites. Do also recommend any places within an hour or two hours of travel distance that you think would be worth checking out.

Buying / Selling / [FS] AOW collection and possibly more
« on: August 20, 2016, 03:24:25 PM »
Time for these statues and kits to find a new home. The list below is about everything I own, except a few other items I'm not decided on. I'm in the middle of packing for moving into another apartment and will take pictures of each statue individually before boxing them.

All packages will be shipped on the Saturday of the week because it'll allow me enough time to pack it securely and carefully. Plus it'll be easier to do a packaging-supply-run on my day off.

For the cost of shipping, I wouldn't know what the exact amount would come to to be honest. For most, if not all, members/ buyers in the past, I've shipped the statue without receipt of the shipping money. Once the statue was shipped, pictures of the receipts/ customs forms/ tracking information were shared wit the buyer and the buyer would pay me separately for the exact cost of shipping. If it's a long time member on the board, I trust they will reimburse me the shipping amount and so far, it's worked.

For international buyers, all packages will be insured and declared for the exact amount you pay for the statue. If you'd like to lower the declared value (so you wouldn't have to pay a higher customs fee), please let me know at the time of the purchase.

All of them come in their AOW boxes, unless it's a kit on the list and they've all been displayed in a glass case.

If you are sending money via Paypal - please add 4% to the total price if it is marked as Goods/ Services. Alternatively, mark is as a Gift.

Guts Maken - $200
Guts Magun - $200
Guts And Zodd Desperate Attack - $350 (damaged DS was glued)

Houma Zodd - $250

If you buy all Houma statues, I'll offer a further discount of $100.

Zodd II with Bone Skull Knight - $450
Human Zoddo - $75

If you're buying all 3 Zodd's - Human Zoddo is free.

Edit - I sold the Berserker and Femto 1:1 helmets from James P and I might just hold on to the SK 1:1 helmet for now. If you're interested, make me a serious offer.

You won't see some of my bigger statues like Zodd & Wyald or 20th Anniversary or Skull Knight on Horse Backlighting or Guts on Horse (Doldrey) or Femto Rebirth and a few more since I've sold them over the past 2/3 years.

Anime Asylum / 97 Berserk TV series now on Hulu Japan
« on: February 17, 2016, 04:37:44 AM »
Saw news of this on YA's FB page. Good news for Hulu Japan subscribers.

Since the cover image on Hulu's site is that of the BR box set (yeah, the sucky one compared to the amazing original drawn by Miura), it's probably safe to assume the streams will be from the BR version.

It's interesting they're now labeling it as Season 1.

Shootin' the Breeze / Close encounters with a celebrity
« on: June 25, 2015, 07:53:46 PM »
Feel free to share your experience(s) interacting with celebrities. A chance meeting, at a convention perhaps, at a party/ conference you were at ... anywhere.

Had a cool experience this morning. Was on my way to work and the subway slowed down at City Hall. Shut my book and walked to the subway door to get off. Noticed a tall guy wearing shades covering half his face stand next to me, waiting for the train to stop. Instantly recognize him. Force my mind to snap outta a DUHRRR freeze and my fat face smiled the nervousness off.

Me - "So, we don't own the square root of shit huh, Mr. Hayes?"

Raising both eyebrows "Funny ... not a lot of people 'ember that shit."

"... 'cause of Zod?"

"... him n Nelson."

The subway door opened. He got out first and glanced at me, I said "Uhhh ... well, thanks for the chat. Big fan, you're awesome, uuhhmmmiceman. Good luck!"

He smiled and nodded. I walked away with my heart in my mouth. A block later I noticed I was walking a little quicker than usual. Phew. But what's been eating me all freaking day is the fact that it sounded like I said miceman instead of what I intended - iceman. Freakin hell :judo: I got sooooo nervous cos I love his work. Happy he had his glasses on so I didn't have to see those menacing, piercing eyes :magni:

Shootin' the Breeze / Boxing
« on: May 04, 2015, 03:52:10 PM »
Lets talk boxing in here, good suggestion Joe Chip. We were beginning to hijack the weekend thread! My fault. Continuing out chat from -

Mayweather may be an asshole, but he must be one of the most talented people to ever walk in the ring.
Tyson is my favorite fighter. I liked him way more when he was working with Kevin Rooney together. He said in an interview that getting older had a serious effect on his style, he couldn't keep up with the speed + head movement he once had (not that all the parties really helped =) )

Can we start a Boxing thread? I didn't know that you guys enjoyed it.

Definitely, gotta give credit where it's due and Mayweather, whatever his style may be, has come this far successfully and 48-0 is a massive record. His ability to deliver those point-punches consistently is commendable. His stamina got him outta his fight with Maidana and he had a hard time with Castillo back in 2002. I think those 2 have been his toughest opponents, close fights. He controlled the Pacquiao fight, coming back with more jabs whenever he needed to stay ahead in the points. Honestly, I don't like Floyd's style of boxing. Complete opposite of Tyson's.

Tyson's a favorite of mine too. What're your favorite Tyson fights? A few to list but his two fights with Ruddock were close as hell! I love watching Tyson because he's so ... menacing - powerful boxer, small but his style overcame the reach-height barrier and you always got the sense of a reeeeeeeeaaaal fight being fought. All he cared for was knocking the other guy out. No points.

I haven't seen a lot of fights from the old days from the likes of Ray Leonard or Ali or Marciano or Dempsey.

News & Not News / Leonard Nimoy dies at 83
« on: February 27, 2015, 07:05:17 PM »

Leonard Nimoy, the sonorous, gaunt-faced actor who won a worshipful global following as Mr. Spock, the resolutely logical human-alien first officer of the Starship Enterprise in the television and movie juggernaut “Star Trek,” died on Friday morning at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles. He was 83.

His wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, confirmed his death, saying the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Mr. Nimoy announced that he had the disease last year, attributing it to years of smoking, a habit he had given up three decades earlier. He had been hospitalized earlier in the week.

RIP Spock.

Both statues have been in a glass cabinet for display since they were received and un-boxed by me. There is no damage and there are no scruff marks/ scratches.

Shipping will be calculated based on where you are located. If you wish to mark the shipment as a gift or of low value, it will be a risk you take. I'd prefer to add insurance, to be on the safe side. If you're within NYC and want to pick it up, that's fine by me as well.

PM me if you're interested or if you'd like to make a serious offer. References can also be PM'd on request.

Movies, TV, Books & Music / Pink Floyd's new album
« on: September 25, 2014, 03:02:18 PM »
Big news for all Pink Floyd fans, new and old. They have a new full-length album titled 'Endless River' and it's up for pre-order (here - set to release this November.

Short 20/30 sample -

Waters isn't part of it. I hope the band tours to compliment this release.

Some interesting facts I read at Brain Damage's site -

The Endless River has as its starting point the music that came from the 1993 Division Bell sessions, when David, Richard Wright and Nick Mason played freely together at Britannia Row and Astoria studios. This was the first time they had done so since the Wish You Were Here sessions in the seventies. Those sessions resulted in The Division Bell, the band's last studio album.
In 2013 David and Nick revisited the music from those sessions and decided that the tracks should be made available as part of the Pink Floyd repertoire. It would be the last time the three of them would be heard together. The band have spent the last year recording and upgrading the music, using the advantages of modern studio technology to create The Endless River.

The Endless River is a tribute to Richard, whose keyboards are at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. It is a mainly instrumental album with one song, Louder Than Words, (with new lyrics by Polly Samson), arranged across four sides of vinyl, and presumably on the CD, split into four distinct parts.

Gonna avoid listening to anything till I get my record and enjoy it with a glass of Baileys + ice.

PM me if you're interested or if you'd like to make a serious offer. References can also be PM'd on request.

I'm selling this statue. It's been on display inside my cabinet since I got it. Paid around or in excess of $700 including shipping around the time because of the conversion rate.

Sale price is $600 plus shipping. If you wish to mark the shipment as a gift or of low value, it will be a risk you take. I'd prefer to add insurance to the package, to be on the safe side. If you're within NYC and want to pick it up, that's fine by me as well.

As far as a price comparison goes, I sold the same statue on the forum to a fellow member for the same price in this thread.

There's a topic on the board where people have discussed and posted pictures for quick reference.

AOW's page of the statue - link.

Edit: topic header changed to Sold.

Shootin' the Breeze / Post something good/bad that happened to you
« on: July 24, 2014, 03:51:31 PM »
It's been a few months since I bought metal tees, grabbed three which arrived today. Reached for my scissor, cut it over the edge all excited. Put em side by side and it struck me I'd accidentally cut a tiny hole (that too) on the front of one tee :puck:

Ironically it was the more expensive tee from the lot. I'm such a dumbass.

They've asked not to post a picture on a forum as yet since it may go through changes but you can preview it on their website -

Details so far:

*Estimated Pre-order Starting Date: in the middle or later May
*Size: 1/6 scale (W33cm x D38cm x H25cm including sword and base *size may change. )
*Price: not decided yet
*Limited Number: not decided yet
*Other Information: different attachments for 2 versions this time.

Another Guts statue but at least it's a different pose, well sort of, it'll be interesting to put it next to the 20th Anniversary. Let's hope they do the face justice. For price, you think 90,000 Yen, like the 20th?

Berserk Miscellaneous / Live action Berserk?
« on: January 23, 2014, 03:03:02 AM »
Interesting names attached to this unconfirmed piece of news. Wasn't sure where to post this, feel free to move the topic Admins.

Jonny B. just pointed me to an eyebrow-raising new title in pre-production for a 2017 release.

Entitled Berserk, the horror/action/adventure is an adaptation of the popular Manga series written and illustrated by Kentaro Miura.

According to IMDB (who can never be trusted – thus, this is unconfirmed), the feature film adaptation will include this massive list of directors: Christophe Gans (Silent Hill, Brotherhood of the Wolf ), Oliver Stone (JFK, Platoon, Natural Born Killers) and Nicolas Winding Refn (Only God Forgives, Drive, Bronson)!

In the adaptation, “The Epic of Guts, a dangerous barbarian who joins forces with a mercenary group named ‘The Band of the Hawk’, lead by the charismatic Griffith, and fights with them as they battle their way into the royal court and their final doom.”

Stuart Beattie (I, Frankenstein, 30 Days of Night, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl) worked on the screenplay.

Expect casting news shortly.

Good movies I can think of -

Upstream Color
Before Midnight
Inside Llewyn Davis
Jag-Ten (The Hunt)
Stories We Tell
Dallas Buyers Club
Blue Jasmine
Blue Is The Warmest Color
Le Passe
Frances Ha
The Wind Rises
John Dies In The End
I wanna add The Broken Circle Breakdown but it came out last year even though it hit theaters this year : / ... same with Mud too (I think?)

Movies I still gotta see - 12 Years A Slave, Her, Nebraska, The Selfish Giant, The Act Of Killing, Philomena, The Wolf Of Wall Street, Sweet Dreams, 47 Ronin :rakshas:, Not Yet Begun To Fight, Big Bad Wolves ... some more I think.

TV shows -

Breaking Bad takes the cake with their final season, hands down. Hannibal was very enjoyable cos of Mads (he's awesome). I'm in the middle of Broadchurch and it looks promising. Les Revenants was good overall with a weak middle. Mad Men was disappointing but at least Don got back to advertising and selling this season. Game of Thrones was good, not awesome. The Walking Dead was decent. I need to check out Masters of Sex, House Of Cards, Orange Is The New Black.

Shootin' the Breeze / Luck ... superstition
« on: December 14, 2013, 03:54:47 PM »
Do you have moments where you've done something or seen your family/ friends do stuff so it isn't bad luck or is superstitious? Like while you were studying for an exam or which shoe you put on or whatever else, maybe something passed down to you by your parents/ families.

One superstition I heard growing up was not to plant chilli in a garden because it was believed to welcome tiffs between your friends or family. Back home, I'd see a lot of people hang a lemon wrapped with green/ red chillies under their car so as to cast out any kind of bad omen n such, I guess so you can see that and not hit that car or mess with them (I dunno). I'd also see people move out of their homes or change things around so it's good feng shui, it could be more of a dominant belief in the East in general much like living your life guided by astrology so luck is in your favor. Do you believe it's unlucky if a black cat crossed your path :carcus:? A very recent one came up in a conversation about wedding presents and I don't know how prominent it is across the cultural board but a friend was adamant about it - for some reason it's not good to gift the couple a set of knives. If it is indeed a gift, there should be a coin exchange so those knives are bought or something like that otherwise it's like cutting a bond between the giver and the receiver ... I think?

Vagabond / Vagabond's 1st week sales history
« on: October 31, 2013, 03:41:49 PM »
Got news of Volume 36 hitting # 2 in Japan and got me curious to sort of see how the series has done these past few years! Here's some info I could find, mind you these are first week sales estimates -

Volume 36 ranked 2nd place with 248,629.
Volume 35 ranked 1st place with 277,732.
Volume 34 ranked 1st place with 312,311.
Volume 33 ranked 2nd place with 301,993.
Volume 32 ranked 2nd place with 239,955.
Volume 31 ranked 2nd place with 288,225.
Volume 30 ranked 1st place with 299,191.
Volume 29 ranked 2nd place with 264,281.
Volume 28 ranked 2nd place with 307,352.

I can't go further back unfortunately. Anyone have access to that sort of info? Is there a way to check total sales per volume?

Steady decline since Vol 34 and 36 has the second lowest opening sales figures in this bunch. 34 came out two and a half years after 33, so the peak perhaps?

Vagabond / Vagabond: Volume 36
« on: October 23, 2013, 01:27:02 PM »
Released today, here's the cover -

Summary on the site (post Google translation) - In the famine, and poor village people also hope to live even Yuku emaciated. It's Musashi to continue cultivation "strongly" that it will allow, but there is no way to make use of the soil. Before the wind of winter holding a coldness of death blows, is not allowed to breathe in the soil of the field, ... everything is frozen. Musashi was called "devil" once, paving the jaws of death, I Yuku turned into a land of "hope".

Berserk Miscellaneous / How long does it take to read a Berserk volume?
« on: October 09, 2013, 07:32:19 PM »
How long does it take you on average to read a volume of Berserk? I feel like it takes me 3 or 4 hours per volume or more ... (sort of like basking in the sun all afternoon on a hammock and you don't want to leave hah! :farnese:).

Some volumes I take longer to read and finish, especially volumes 28 through 34 or even the Conviction Arc as a whole. It's hard to describe, every time I read a volume again, it gets better and my love for the dialog or the story or the art grows each time.

It's been easier for me after I got caught up because it allowed me more time to focus on episodes rather than focusing on a volume. Maybe it's just me but in comparison to 34 and prior, 35 felt like a quicker read (maybe due to the Sea God battle).

Movies, TV, Books & Music / Comic book thread
« on: September 04, 2013, 03:39:47 PM »
Discuss everything comic book related, uhhmmm talk about comic books you're currently reading or comic books you like, the works. Was going through the movies thread and noticed a good amount of users who read comic books, I don't get to read a lot myself but I try to check out stuff recommended.

Few months ago a close pal recommended I check out Wanted and lent me his comics. I'd watched the movie only and it made me realize what a butcher-job the movie accomplished with a good story. Not a lot of characters but very interesting bunch like Shithead, Professor, Imp, Fuckwit, Fox and more. The story sets itself in a world where superheroes and villains have had a big battle but villains prevailed victorious. Superheroes had their memories altered and some remaining ones like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman think they're actors playing their roles. Written by Mark Miller, check it out.
