Shootin' the Breeze / The dumbest excuse on Ebay
« on: April 07, 2004, 09:48:00 PM »
A long time ago I purchased my first AOW statue on ebay and got ripped off. Is that stupid or what? It was the Guts Hawk Soldier Toycom statue. I sent a check for the total amount, and hadn't heard from the guy on ebay. He supposedly owned a comic book store in Chicago called the Comic Box. I called Chicago info and there was no such listing.

Then he e mailed me saying that the reason he hadn't shipped the statue was because " his family was murdered and he was in the hospital with multiple stab wounds." I said, " Well, are you keeping the money I sent you for the bail? Are YOU the one who murdered your family?"  He had about 200 other auctions on ebay and he's sitting in the hospital with stab wounds? Maybe the money was to pay for his 'medical bill.'

Sheesh. The excuses you hear sometimes.

Shootin' the Breeze / A terrible thing has happened
« on: April 02, 2004, 05:39:44 PM »
Well, I'm deeply worried.

As most of the SK members here know, I'm the mega-collector of Berserk statues. Currently I've been narrowing down this huge collection because there is simply no room for it, and have decided to keep a handful of the very rare statues as well as a few other items.

Something disturbing has happened as of late, and it's deeply troubling me because of the amount of money I've put into it. Most of you who go to the merchandise section are aware that I have two shopping services, one which is public ( the M World Service) and one that is private ( my personal shopper friend with the AOW connections).

She's always delivered the statues and goods to me so I had no reason to distrust her by paying her a lot of money ahead of time for the statues that will be released in the future.

Unfortunately she has not been online, has not answered her e mails, and I have not been able to have any contact with her since the beginning of this year.  I have several thousand dollars worth of pending merchandise she was supposed to deliver, and now for the last few months, I have heard NOTHING from her. It's as though she really disappeared from the face of the earth.

Unfortunately Paypal has one of those 30 day time limits to get refunded back your money. I'm going to have to tell them that the statues and products I ordered ahead of time were preorders and products I could not receive within such a short time limit.

I'm just having a hard time understanding why someone who has been reliable would suddenly flake off on me. I'm going to hope a little longer, but I truly am beginning to wonder if this person has simply ripped me off. The sad thing is she had stellar feedback on ebay and she has delivered items to me in the past. Perhaps I was too trusting.

Worried...that's all I can say. Especially with that amount of money. I'm going to start to get really mad.

Currently I am collecting all my paypal information and getting ready to submit it and ask for a refund or file a lawsuit for goods that were not delivered. Still it's not a lot of consolation to know my money is out there and I haven't heard a thing from her in a long time.

Shootin' the Breeze / Molestation and the Catholic Church
« on: March 10, 2004, 04:57:52 PM »
I recently heard several arguments from members of the Catholic church ( nonclergy) who stated that if the priests were allowed to marry, this would lessen the child molestation tendencies.

However, I strongly disagree with this. First of all, child molestation and taking advantage of young people sexually is not 'sexual' in nature. It is a sexual CRIME, to be sure. But if the argument that some of these Church members were true, why then would the priests not simply seek out, say, the services of a prostitute, or try to make their moves on older women and men? It's a matter of power, I think.

What do you guys think? Do you think if priests were allowed to marry, that this would lessen the amount of molestation that has been going on for ages, or do you think it would really make any difference?

In light of this, I remember a good friend of mine who was struggling with being feelings of homosexuality when he was in jr high school. He sought counsel from our parish priest, who in turn, told my friend that he would find the answer with God, and then proceeded to tell him that he would be blessed if he 'blew Gabriel's horn.' * I don't think I need to mention what the 'horn' was.*

My friend did not mention this to me til a few years ago. At the time when he went to the archdiocese with his complaint, the priest was simply removed from our parish and sent to another one, all too common back then, and maybe even now.

Shootin' the Breeze / Low Carb Diets hit a new note
« on: March 10, 2004, 06:03:31 AM »
The beer industry targets the health conscious.

" After a hard deserve a Michelob"

Low carb, ( 3 grams), 95 calories per serving.

The ad shows a couple running together, fit and fabulous.

I just love all the diet fads. Even the candy bars and vending machines now state LOW CARB SNACKS.

Shootin' the Breeze / Do you guys work out?
« on: March 07, 2004, 08:54:15 AM »
Just curious if any of you guys and gals work out on a regular basis...and if so, what kind of physical exercise do you do?

Berserk Merchandise / Important announcement from Toycom
« on: March 02, 2004, 09:20:36 AM »
I recently spoke with Explosion toys owners and asked why they no longer had the certain select Berserk statues on their online catalog.

They told me that Toycom may not be importing the Berserk AOW statue line any longer. No particular reason, but this sort of sucks if you want to get it here in the US and not have to pay for shipping and commissions over there in Japan.

So now it looks like our sources will be in Japan  and ebay. For now anyways.

Shootin' the Breeze / The Passion of Christ
« on: February 25, 2004, 11:39:03 PM »
Allright, I'll write a little more about this movie. I'm still reeling from the gore and the realistic, incredibly painful scenes of Christ being beaten, whipped, tortured, and put to a slow death on the cross.

Right now, my stomach is still queasy.

Shootin' the Breeze / Anybody see this particular anime?
« on: February 20, 2004, 09:19:59 PM »
I rented this anime, GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES, a few days ago.

It was one of the most poignant and heart wrenching anime I've ever seen. ( Basic spoilers ahead) It was about the last days of World War II in Japan and how it affected a young boy and his little sister.

If any of you have seen this, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, and you're into stories that are simple but intense, you must definitely rent or buy this.

Still have a few tears in my eyes after seeing this.

« on: February 18, 2004, 11:44:22 PM »

As usual, a prize will be guys have one month to submit the artwork, so the deadline will be March 18th.

Character Cove / Charlotte and Griffith's Next Moves
« on: February 17, 2004, 12:49:57 AM »
So Zodd flies off with the bed and our two destined to be together characters. What's next? Marriage? Griffith's Ultimate Dream of ruling the kingdom with his lady at his side? Or does that sound too easy and predictable. What do you guys think is the next move?

Shootin' the Breeze / Your astrological sign

Me: Taurus.

What's your sign?

Shootin' the Breeze / Help me identify this anime
« on: February 13, 2004, 05:24:13 AM »
I caught the bizarre ending of an anime that was taking place in some kind of weird carnival. There was a fat guy dressed in some kind of Pilgrim outfit, who was able to levitate and float around and inside his outfit he had all kinds of weapons...guns, knives, grenades. He was driven crazy by the meowing of a toy cat. He started to cry for his 'Mommy' on the ground like a big baby.

Anyone know what this is????

Berserk Merchandise / Your opinions please
« on: February 10, 2004, 08:54:39 AM »
As most of you on the board know, I am an avid collector of Berserk statues, action figures and other goodies. I finally saved some money to purchase a curio cabinet and begin putting my collection up there for display.

What do you think of this cabinet I chose? Do you think it's a bit elaborate, or should I pick something simpler as to not distract from the collection itself? I was considering buying something with more glass and less wood.

Your opinions?

Shootin' the Breeze / Legality of Alcohol vs Illegal Drugs
« on: February 08, 2004, 12:09:18 AM »
I'm wondering what all of your guys think about this. Alcohol for that matter have caused every bit as much misery, death, addiction, and ripped apart families just as drugs have. Yet it's perfectly legal to buy it anywhere and everywhere just about.

Is it because alcohol is obviously the more socially acceptable form of partying BECAUSE it's legal? Versus the illegality of drugs including marijuana ( which in my opinion should be legalized. Recently it became a valuable cash crop for an impoverished African country and probably their only cash crop, and the US decided to step in and ask that their government 'severely punish' the farmers who grew the hemp)?

If you were at a party, you'd most likely see people drinking. But if someone whipped out a line of cocaine or started smoking crack, I don't think that would be looked upon as favorably as drinking beer or Jack Daniels.

Could it be that drugs are 'more addictive' than alcohol?

Do yo think marijuana should be legalized?

Creation Station / Casca, Griffith and Roshina Custom Dolls
« on: February 08, 2004, 12:04:24 AM »

At last after a lot of hard work and patience, these three dolls were finally completed today by Emilie Sauriol.

Casca in her red ballgown, Griffith in civilian clothes, and of course, Roshina.

Emilie also does any other anime characters as well so if you are interested e mail her at :

Creation Station / Custom-made Roshina Doll
« on: February 05, 2004, 01:54:20 AM »

Here is one of three dolls created for me by a French Canadian artist in Quebec named Emilie Sauriol. I posted it here because what she does is definitely art. This is a series of Roshina in production. Griffith in civilian clothes was also made as well as Casca in her red ballgown, which I will post when Emilie is finished with that.

I thought she did a damn good job with Roshina's likeness. She made the wings from a special fabric and put the little fuzzy coat on there bit by bit. All it needs it a little smiling mouth and she's on her way to my collection :)

Check out some of her other creations there under the parent directory for this artist's amazing work with dolls.

Speculation Nation / Gaiseric's Origins
« on: February 03, 2004, 06:49:04 AM »
Here's a long shot at speculation, considering that there's so little information about him. Anyone have any ideas/clues as to where Gaiseric may have originated and how he became the leader of a great empire? It was said that 'no one knew where he came from' ...he just seemed to appear and began consolidating his power, thus forming the empire.

I wonder if it's safe to say that there might be some uncanny resemblance to his mighty power and Guts' prowess on the battlefield.

Any thoughts here on this?

Shootin' the Breeze / How long have you known about Berserk?

I watched the anime in April of 2003...and there's been no turning back since then :)

Young Animal promotional Beherit on ebay...this is a really rare and unusual item to find in the states and sells for almost 40-80 bucks in Japan depending on the auction on Yahoo. Check it out ( courtesy of Franz, who sent me the link!)

It's about 3.5 inches high.

Character Cove / Who was the first apostle?
« on: January 26, 2004, 07:43:45 AM »
Who do you think was the first apostle? Do you think ( or is it possible) that there were any apostles during King Gaiseric's reign?

Character Cove / Who sacrificed Gaiseric's capital and why?
« on: January 25, 2004, 11:46:25 PM »
Alright so let's move away from the below thread to start a new one.

Who do you feel sacrificed/destroyed Gaiseric's capital and why? What became of his kingdom? If the capital wasn't sacrified by the elemental angels/kings, then whom?

How do you think Slann, SK and Void 'know each other?' Through possible connections  as humans at one time ( at least ONE Godhand member could have known SK/Gaiseric) or through the ages?

Who do you think is the oldest Godhand member, logically speaking?

Shootin' the Breeze / Violence vs Sex in the Media
« on: January 19, 2004, 11:32:52 PM »
I think it's interesting to see how violence is accepted readily in the media and how sexuality isn't. So why is this? Our Puritan heritage?

I remember very clearly when I saw the movie BRAVEHEART. That movie, for those of you who have seen it, was full of violence. Next to me in the movie theatre, a ten year old kid was with his dad. There's one scene where Mel Gibson and his new wife are undressing. You couldn't even really see much nudity, just her breasts. But the father of the kid next to me shielded his son's eyes from that.

Yet, he allowed the kid to see all the gore.

Don't you guys think that's odd/ironic/weird?

I don't think I'd bring a little kid to see a really violent movie. No way.
