Speculation Nation / Did the story of Gilgamesh influence Berserk?
« on: June 24, 2006, 02:32:50 AM »
I'm not asking 'Was the myth the background for Berserk', just, ' Did some of the ideas influence Miura when writing the manga?'

Berserk Miscellaneous / Berserk Sheet music
« on: April 24, 2006, 02:49:40 AM »
I don't know if this is the right place for this, maybe it should have gone under Creation Station.

Where could I go to find sheet music for Susumu Hirasawa's work on Berserk? Is it even available? I'll google it gladly, but if someone here is in the know and can steer me in the right direction, it would really save me some time.

Reading through the old specualtion thread linked to from the 269 thread, I got to thinking about those branded corpses at the bottom of the Tower of Rebirth. Looking at Aazealh's post in the Collective unconcious thread gave more form to the germ of thought, so now I present it to you all.

What if the brand existed outside of the Idea of Evil's use of it? What if was originally used as a mark of punishment for those who broke the law? Consider this.

If the Wiseman in Mozgus' story was imprisoned by Gaiseric, why was he imprisoned? For standing up to unfair taxation? Or for standing up to the religious persecution Gaiseric brought against sorcerers? After all, as far off base as the Holy See in Berserk seem to be about God, Heaven, Witchcraft, and everything in between, why shouldn't we believe they altered the truth to fit their own needs? If the Brand were used to mark witches as condemned criminals, wouldn't it be fitting for sacrifices made by the wiseman to bear the same mark? The irony is too delicious. In short, what I'm saying is, the corpses weren't eaten because they weren't the corpses of sacrificial victims, but of condemned witches and wizards.
And, if witchcraft was an accepted practice before Gaiseric came to power, his persecution of it would not seem like a bad thing to the Holy See. They altered history (which was probably an easy thing to do in an age where they might have been the only literate people.) to make Gaiseric seem tyrannical, and so explain why his empire fell apart. Imagine how much harder it would have been for Flora to forgive and befriend him in such a situation. Moreover, if she did, how much harder for him to forgive himself? Any comments? Besides flames, of course... :zodd:

Speculation Nation / Idea of Justice/ Vendetta
« on: July 01, 2005, 04:11:06 AM »
Galactor posited the notion of an "Idea of Justice" to recently, based on the common human notion that those who get ahead by unjust, devious, or unethical means eventually pay a price for their misdeeds. It started me thinking: What about an Idea of Vendetta?

The belief in an evening-out of the balance sheet may well be universal enough-but it lacks the primal, subconcious nature necessary for the birth of creatures like Idea of Evil. The desire for vengeance, however, is second nature to everyone, from the youngest to the oldest. And it is not limited simply to those who have been wronged; even those who are punished for their misdeeds long for revenge, even though they brought their misfortune upon themselves.

Could there be an Idea of Vendetta in the Berserk Cosmos? Would its presence lend itself to explaining the possibility of "jumping fish" like Guts and the Skull Knight?

Ranks up there with naming an Australiopithecus "Lucy" or the "AdamAntium" compound, if you ask me.

Speculation Nation / The Fellowship is Dissolved?
« on: February 15, 2005, 04:01:17 AM »
I've noticed that the speculation has leaned heavily toward Farnese either being rescued from the Vandimion Estate by Guts, or escaping by herself somehow and rejoining the group. nother possibility presented itself to me this afternoon; what if she doesn't rejoin them?

I expect Serpico would stay with Farne-chan(his devotion is to her, not Guts and his quest.) Schierke would be as unwilling to leave them behind as Guts would. A direct assault would be out of the question for Guts in his current state of health, so he'll have to depend on Isidro and Serpico to work out some plan to get Farnese out of Vritannis safely while he, Schierke, and the Elves board the ship. The plan originally is that the other three will join them on board the ship, but due to some accident, they don't make it in time, and the ship leaves without them. This would allow for the story to jump either to Griffith, Serpico's group, or Guts' group.

Speculation Nation / After the Break
« on: December 09, 2004, 01:06:17 AM »
With the confirmation that Miura-sensei is taking a break before tackling ep. 250, I'm sure we're all filled with breathless anticipation as to just what the next episode will bring.

Personally, I think he's taking the time to research famous naval battles in order to bring us lucky readers a major sea battle at the port, with Guts&co. dodging cannonballs, desperately fighting their way onto a boat, narrowly escaping being sunk, and trying to manage a boat without any experience among any of them.

Oh, and Azan becomes the 'Hero of Vrittanis', only to play second fiddle to--Griffith! ;D

What are your thoughts? (Boy, did I ask for it... :P)

Speculation Nation / Becchi
« on: September 30, 2004, 01:36:04 AM »
I realize that there has already been some speculation in the past regarding the Beherit Guts is carrying around. Some think he was meant to use it-others don't. Some think Serpico will use it. Its even been suggested, facetiously, that Puck will use it. ;D

What if it is intended for Casca to use? Would she sacrifice Guts to be with Griffith as an apostle in the Neo-Hawks? (doubtful...) or, would she sacrifice Griffith to have the world back to the way it was before she lost it?

Speculation Nation / Mysterious disappearances
« on: July 24, 2004, 03:43:02 PM »
Given that Skull Knight is so powerful, it makes sense that he's not around more often from an authorial/editorial standpoint (he'd draw attention away from Guts, the protagonist.)

But what significance do his disappearances have within the context and framework of the story? His appearances always signal some matter of great import, but do his sudden departures have similar bearing? Does he perhaps leave in order to rest from the ordeal of manifesting on the physical plane? Mayhap Guts is not the only "struggler" SK gives his aid to?

Encyclopedia: Q&A / Pinned Newbie Thread

Putting my nuts on the line here, folks! I will attempt to point out a few rules for new forum users.

1. Do not ask for scans; you will be attacked like a prison bitch and then banned by Griffith.

2. Search the forums carefully for questions similar to your own before asking; people hate reading the same questions over and over.

3. Do not argue with Olivier Hague. Mr. Hague possesses a morbid degree of knowledge concerning Berserk past, present, and even future. You will only be dismissed with a one-liner if you try.

4. Keep content forum-appropriate. Please don't speculate about One-Piece in the Current Chapters forum or ask about merchendise in the Character Cove.

There's more to be sure. I just don't know all of it yet.

As Herald to the Many-Visaged Confounder of Statisticians, it is my proud duty to posit this, his question:

If Slann had dominion over lusts, and Conrad holds sway over pestilence, and Void's position as pontifex maximus promotes betraying the people closest to the supplicant, what primary causes of evil do Femto and Ubik champion?
