Berserk Merchandise / WIP 1/10 Guts on horse back - commission
« on: July 28, 2011, 07:23:38 PM »
I'm back.

Another commission, Art of War's 1/10 scale kit of Guts on horse back.
It's an old kit released in 2001, but as the description presses; a really well produced kit.

For the base, I wanted to recreate the charge at Doldrey.
The kit comes with 2 heads, one helm less smirking as hell and one helm clad one looking... well, bored.
The commissioner decided to follow my idea transplanting the smirking face onto the helmed head:

As the kit is pretty big demanding a wide base and as Guts is charging into battle, I wanted to cram as many vital details as possible into the presentation.
The commissioner agreed, and I came up with the idea of Guts jumping over a battle field obstacle:

For the presentation base I noticed that my old humidor lid was quite perfect size wise:

Some plaster of Paris, desert sand and a wash later:

Populating the base...

Stray arrows from distant archers:

A water barrel being crushed by the steed's right hoof:
Water will be splashing further on...

And an abandoned shield + a halberd banner:

I got the inspiration for the shield from this manga frame:

The halberd banner/flag... well, I browsed the manga and the art book back and forth till I noticed this lil' banner in the art book. Quite suiting i think... ;)

The one to the far left. That - is - the - Swedish - Flag!!! :D

All, save the barrel dry mounted on the dry brushed base to look like this:

Berserk Merchandise / WIP - Ehren's Casca kit
« on: October 25, 2010, 01:50:26 PM »
I just opened the magic box to inspect the parts.

Just .. wow!  :judo:

The scale is roughly 1/5 and the castings are PERFECT.
All pieces are really clean and the details are awesome!
There are small hints at seam lines which will be a breeze to clean up.

I've heard comments of her head being "too wide" and too big, but holding the face part (nice touch with the hair as a one piece cap, btw!!!) it's not that bad, though there is room for "improvements" if you're a basically skilled modeler.
I think I will rather prolong her chin rather than carve away at the sides.
Also, her torso feels a bit short, and this is a really easy fix by adding about 1cm (0,4") to the upper armor to better resemble the original drawing and even out her proportions.
Here's a snap composite of what I am hinting at.

At a pricetag of $140 (+ shipping), this is a REALLY nice rendition of Casca and will; I am sure, paint up out of the box to a very nice statue.
If you're willing to put a few hours extra work into her, she'll be an absolute Masterpiece!

A huge Thank You to Ehren (Silvia) for listening to us fans deciding to cast her.

A commission I've been working on on and off for 3 months.
Loads of added scratch built details.

For a complete WIP, please follow this link

And as a side note.. these pics were shot out my window with the kit placed on a pedestal, so no photoshop tricks.
I'll add detail shots against neutral backdrops later tonight...

Berserk Merchandise / WIP - Commission 1/8 Guts Berserker from Headlong
« on: August 12, 2009, 08:53:16 PM »
Another Berserk commission, even from the same company as the last one I did though imho this one is infinitely cooler/better/bigger/badder etc etc...

<- yours truly

+ the prepwork is a walk in the park. Seam lines are pretty much non existent and the only dud was the rather big midpart of the cape which must've been taken out of the mould prior to cooling down.
Enter hot water and some clamps and problem solved.

Quote from: commissioner
- I would like to have the pillar of rock extruding from a wider mound of larger rocks (boulders if you will).
- The texture of the boulders should mimic the pillar (though the bigger the boulder, the less jagged the faces are).

Sure thing.
Liquid rubber ftw!

I'll cast pieces with plaster of paris and stretch the rubber mould differently for each cast making the sections not so like each other.
I'll also use some Woodland Scenics moulds I have + a few real stones.

Quote from: Commissioner
- Glittering red paint in the sockets, then covered it with a layer of clear gel, giving it a bit of depth, glow, and shine.
- Basically, whatever makes the eyes stand out without being overly candy-apple red.

Will do.
However .. the eyes as they are cast would need some alteration depth wise;

I believe the *structure* in the eye slits will mess up what I have in mind, so with your permission I'll just groove them out to enhance the paint effects.

Tonight's summary:
Apart from the prep work (sanding etc) I glued 2 sections together; torso with arms + legs and cod piece.

-Add more rubber to the pillar mould.
-Clean up the head/jaw parts.
-Putty up the seams.
-Prime him.

More to come...

Video Games / Rebuffing the gaming area...
« on: August 16, 2008, 07:41:16 PM »
So, we've had this white wall with... nothing on by our computer since we moved to the new flat ~2 years ago.

Time to change that I thought, and got the Mrs' approval on a set-up design.

We enjoy gaming the both of us so I wanted to paint something on the wall to reflect that, yet being subtle enough to pass as a cool decoration.
Well, I am a sucker for the Max Payne games. The second one has this really, really neat slipcase with gorgeous b/w illustrations on all sides, a~~nd...
Well, like with our living room decoration, it felt just right.

Enter projector and 2 hours later:

I did some shelves of oak and added a wide trim with down lights on top:

and a mood pic:

The Mrs jumped the shelves as soon as I had taken those pics and filled them with our since long tucked away games

**1 hour later**

she's happy.... ^_^
As am I, I might add.

Berserk Merchandise / Very cool one of a kind Guts statue (not by me)

A guy over at the Clubhouse named Hakaro posted this, and I thought you'd be interested. =)

Apparently it's sculpted in Super Sculpey (the same polymer clay I used for Felicia's legs for example)....

Berserk Merchandise / WTB: Headlong sitting Berserk armor kit
« on: July 30, 2008, 11:02:20 AM »
as the subject line indicates.
It's this kit.
I thought I'd ask here to avoid hassles with YJA etc.
I'd be open for trade for commission services where the kit could be part (down) payment.

As a side note, a while ago I was approached by a member of this board concerning this kit.
Despite my *No Repeats!* rule/condition, I'd still take that commission as this is one kit I do want for myself in the end...  :guts:

Berserk Merchandise / WIP Commisioned Headlong berserk armor kit.
« on: March 09, 2006, 12:37:54 PM »
H'okay...  :serpico:

While I'm waiting for the wooden base for Zoddy boy to show up in the mail, I'm going to start prep work on this lil' beauty.

For the wooden base for this one, I'm going to need a high res scan of the brand, so if you find one about the net or if you could upload one somewhere it'd be much appreciated if you'd PM me with URL's.  :chomp:

I'm begining prep work tonight but there won't be any pics til I've come clear of that stage ...  :carcus:

More to come...
