Video Games / Controversy over Modern Warfare 2
« on: October 28, 2009, 10:38:01 PM »
MASSIVE SPOILERS

If you don't want Modern Warfare 2 spoiling at all for you, go away.
Otherwise, watch this video:
http://www.viddler.com/explore/Destructoid/videos/1099/

Now, the same video was taken down by Activision over copyright infringement, so it is legit. (The guy here just cammed the video before it got taken off YouTube, for evidence of this, see here on Google:

LINK

and again when you actually click on the youtube video:

LINK.

In one of the levels, you control a terrorist shooting innocent civilians through an airport.

Infinity Ward, the developers of the game on the level depicted in the video:

Quote
"The scene establishes the depth of evil and the cold bloodedness of a rogue Russian villain and his unit. By establishing that evil, it adds to the urgency of the playerís mission to stop them," explains Infinity Ward. "Players have the option of skipping over the scene. At the beginning of the game, there are two 'checkpoints' where the player is advised that some people may find an upcoming segment disturbing. These checkpoints canít be disabled.

"Modern Warfare 2 is a fantasy action game designed for intense, realistic game play that mirrors real life conflicts, much like epic, action movies. It is appropriately rated 18 for violent scenes, which means it is intended for those who are 18 and older."

Just interested on people's reactions to this. Me? I'm very interested in this concept, it's a first for video games. Cannot wait to see Jack Thompson and Fox News jump on this.

Character Cove / Most Interesting And/Or Best Character Relationships
« on: July 26, 2009, 04:21:03 PM »
We have had many character relationships that seem to gel really well over the years, for example we have had Isidro and Puck, Isidro and Guts, Guts and Casca, Skully and Flora, Schierke and Iverella, Farnese and Serpico, Magnifico and Roderick, Silat and the Tapasa, Griffith and Charlotte, and so many more that it'd just get silly listing them all, but which character chemistry do you enjoy seeing the most and/or which have the most interesting relationship?

I'm sure we all have our own interpretations on how certain character's voices sound in our head. Just interested in how people think certain character's voices should sound . Naming any famous people whose voice would sound like a certain character's is fine.

For a start, I think Guts' voice actor in the Berserk game for Dreamcast was pretty damn close to how I imagined he would sound, but not quite. As for Void, I always imagine his voice sounding like Tony Jay's (look him up, very deep and commanding voice).

That's all I can think of right now, there's certainly more, but I cannot place how to describe them into words properly without making myself sound idiotic (it is hard to describe certain character's voices as they would sound to me in my head).

Apologies in advance, if this topic has been created in the past.

Who do you see ally themselves with Guts in the end game? Without the obvious candidates (the members of his current group). Here are my candidates:

Azan - He obviously cares about Serpico and Farnese, and is nothing more than a wanderer with nowhere to go. Plus everybody likes him (don't we?) Come on, Azan, join Guts.

Rickert - Feels just as betrayed as Guts does. He could take Erica to Puck's homeland while he wishes to enter battle with Guts.

Rakshas - Inspired choice, I know. He obviously wants to see Griffith die. Why this is, is still unknown to us all. But if he manages to live through the current battle against Ganishka, I can see him leaving Griffith's clan (unbeknownst to Griffith and the rest) and siding with Guts.

Lets hear yours.

Speculation Nation / Will Guts ever be rid of the Beast?
« on: April 12, 2009, 06:30:05 PM »
And if so, how will he do it? Is the trip to Elfhelm going to rid him of the Beast permanently, or simply suppress it? Or shall Guts suffer forever onward to the final battle? What then? Will it attempt to take over Guts (judging that that he survives the final battle) and kill his friends? How exactly will the Beast be stopped when it has nothing else to quench its thirst for blood, and most of all, how will poor Guts be able to rid himself of it for good? Thoughts?
