This and the news of Shenmue 3 within the month of each other? Please don't wake me up...

I'm really interested to see what Miura does with this new story, but I really hope it doesn't put Berserk back much longer. This is like an important news bulletin interrupting the final scene of a really intense movie.

Sad but I'm getting use to it. The results will just be crazy anyway...

So am I actually. I'm starting to think Miura is just taking a year out to relax before pushing new boundaries.

One of my other favourite manga has ended this month. Initial D has come to an end after 18 years, however the writer has just announced one final full volume release that is being made in one go without prior chapter releases. Whilst I don't think this suits Miura's style, it would be absolutely brilliant if he did something similar and released a full volume with huge plot developments all in one go.

To be honest, I wouldn't be all too bothered if Studio 4c decided to call it quits. The only positive aspect to come from this is increased awareness of Berserk as a whole.

If they do decide to carry on, I hope they really take their time to plan everything far more meticulously than they have for this trilogy and decide to really follow up on a lot of the criticisms they have no doubt received from some of the bigger fans. If I was to expect an announcement, I wouldn't think we would hear about it until next year at the earliest and I would expect it to no doubt be about the Lost Children, hopefully in OVA format.

I found the film to be very average. There are very few scenes that got me excited and even those were riddled with problems of being poorly cut or short lived. The scene with SK and Zodd just seemed really empty, it's nice to see a fight between them being animated, but it could have been done so much better. How it ended was also really abrupt, I was hoping to see Guts wield the DS for the first time, but without introducing Godo they really put themselves into a corner  :judo:

Nope, not impressed.

Brilliant, thanks for that Walter, I will keep checking in. Maybe the forum should do a wager for the date the next episode is published?  :iva:

Whilst I would have thought we would know by now, is there any indication as to if we will get anything on the 24th? Or can we expect the record to pushed to at least 23 weeks?

I'm surprised by the level of hatred that people have towards these movies here, most of the other sites (ANN, Amazon, etc) people seem to like them. Personally I like the movies if you take them as a companion to the manga and the original 90s anime. Yea they leave a lot of stuff out, but so does a lot of anime. I think they're pretty good as long as you also read the manga to get the full story.

Welcome to I hope you're ready for some in depth discussions and debates among the community.  :slan:

Whilst it has been said countless times by many people here, I feel the need to share my thoughts once again, mostly because I'm lurking the board waiting for the next manga episode and trying desperately to get my Berserk fix during it's absence. But, it's not so much what they left out of these films that is the problem, it's the incorrect interpretation of each character and the unnecessary additions that the animation studio decided to include in the final cut.

I wouldn't say that I would be entirely happy if they had just cut a few scenes and turned it into a summary with extended directors cuts on home release, but it would be a BIG improvement over the character development (or lack thereof) we have been left with and the bizarre changes that have been made. It sends out the wrong message to people who are being introduced to Berserk for the first time and it doesn't let them gain a true representation of the source material. So, for me personally, I can fully understand a lot of the board members disapproval, especially for those who have been waiting for close to 15 years for a more accurate portrayal above the 97 anime.

If you've been a lurker for a while, I'm sure you're fully aware of many of the opinions among the board, but if you haven't looked it over, I recommend seeking through the review threads for the in depth analysis from both Aaz and Walter, since I don't think many other people could show you the issues quite as well as they can.

As many have said, Miura's quality of work has remained consistent up until the latest episode, so I doubt that it's due to him "burning out". If anything, I believe he's more concerned about the milestone he's reaching in the story and making sure that he maintains the quality that he is renowned for. I have said it quite a bit recently, but we are reaching a critical point that fans have waited on for many many years, whereby Casca may be "healed" and we're due to be introduced to a new land that we have have only heard about up until now.

When taking that into consideration, I think that the next batch of episodes will be quite an extensive one and we could be in with a really big treat. Or at least, I hope.

I don't care how bad the movie is, I want that cover.

It definitely is.

Whilst I have no doubt that piracy is a problem everywhere in the world, I wouldn't expect it to be as bad in Japan, due to accessibility. Many people who download scanlations do so because A) It's not easily accessible from a local vendor and B) Because they're impatient to wait for translations. If easily accessible official translations are available from the moment the episodes are first published, I wouldn't expect as many people to scour the web to download them. I'm not saying people wouldn't still do it, but I think it could contribute to some degree.

I'm a bit baffled as to why now, of all times, DH has decided to not encourage more prints of Berserk manga. Whilst many of us agree that the new films are a very poor representation of the manga, it has increased awareness of Berserk to a new generation of anime lovers, that are likely very curious to it's origin and in turn could promote more manga sales.

Although, I do think that DH has been on the side of caution when choosing the amount they send to print with each volume anyway. I didn't start buying all the English volumes until a few years back, when DH had nearly caught up to the Japanese releases and then I decided to buy 3 volumes  every month until I had the entire collection, which in itself proved to be a challenge, especially with volume 15. Now, whilst I'm not proud of what I did, it became infuriating not being able to find volume 15 for several months, so much so that I bought volume 16 and had to settle for a horrible scanlation to fill the gap, as I wasn't sure if I would ever find a copy, or at least a copy that didn't cost in excess of £60. Now, when you think about this lack of access to the public collectors who impulse buy out on the high street, Dark Horse have very much been their own downfall.

I don't know what it has been like in the US, but I visit book stores regularly to look at their latest manga releases, and over the years I have usually seen Naruto, Bleach and Deathnote lining the shelves with only a few other random mangas scattered amongst their designated section. In that time I have usually seen only a couple of selected volumes of Berserk and even in the biggest manga store in London (Forbidden Planet) Berserk has been very scarce, apart from when a new volume is released. Which has really infuriated me over the years, since there's little draw for anyone to pick up the series and give it a glance, since it doesn't have much presence wherever you go.

Whilst I love having a solid copy of Berserk in my hand and I'm very proud to look up to my collection, I can't deny that digital copies would hold a great benefit. Distribution would cost less, translation mistakes are easily corrected ( :slan:), all volumes can be read anywhere without the need of damaging the books and depending on the screen you're using, the quality of Miura's artwork could be perfectly shown off, heck, I'll gladly buy every volume again in digital format to just for the higher level of quality. I just hope that DH can really talk sense into Hakusensha to get the digital rights, otherwise international sales are just going to continue to drop, which from a fans perspective is a really horrible thing to see  :judo:.

Totally brain farted on ordering this.  The usual places seem to be sold out.  Anyone have any ideas?

There are quite a few listed under buy it now on eBay.

I'm in the pre-order club too. I nearly cancelled it to save some money, but once I saw it had shipped, I kind of felt relieved.

With the indications that we are nearing very significant milestone in the story, it's not overly surprising that Miura is committing a great deal of time dealing with this, but I won't deny that the wait to see what's next is now becoming increasingly difficult to cope with.

I've never quite understood this approach. 15 years of waiting? Was anyone seriously drooling with anticipation all this time over a potential adaptation of a series that's pretty fucking amazing by itself? I think the most anyone could have hoped for with these things was: "Hey that was kinda neat and didn't offend me horribly."

I think it's safe to say that they are many people who would like to see Berserk given the attention it deserves in animated format and I'm not ashamed to say that I'm one of those people, since the original 97 series was pretty much how I was first introduced to Berserk. When I finally got round to reading the manga, I kept thinking "Ah, how awesome would it have been to see that part animated correctly". Whilst I am happy with the manga, I'm still keen to have a good representation of the series to put on my TV screen once in a while, much like I've been doing with Batman Year One and The Dark Knight Returns. But for Berserk, I think I will be going back to the 97 series any time I want an animated fix

The best thing about that scene is Skull knights voice. Fitting it in after the sex scene doesn't even surprise me now, Studio 4C just do whatever the hell they want.

Likely something about access for handicaped people and mothers with strollers. In short: not something interesting.

Because every mother should take their kid in a stroller to see Griffith rape Casca.  :troll:

It seems there's a new web based game due to launch to coincide with the third film, which will allow you unlock exclusive content by achieving certain things within the game.
