Shootin' the Breeze / Whargoul: A Web Novel by Dave Brockie of Gwar
« on: August 02, 2006, 09:46:25 PM »
A pretty cool novel, for free, on the internet, written by one of the founding members of my favorite band.

http://oderus.com/timewasters/whargoul/words/NOVEL.html

Quote
I came up with the idea for Whargoul while touring Europe with GWAR in 1995. Over the next few
years I dribbled out my first novel, working in spurts of activity broken up with indeterminable
months of wallowing. At one point I lost the hand-written original manuscript and had to re-write it
from memory! The Whargoul project is my own personal hell-park in which my imagination is totally
unfettered, and my lust for war is at last fulfilSince finishing the book in 1999, I have been trying
to find someone to help me publish it, but so far nothing has been worked out and in fact my forays
into the world of horror and fantasy publishing have gotten me nowhere, despite the lame promises
given to me by many. I'll continue my search until I find a literary agent who really wants to help me
and not just blow smoke up my ass. But I couldn't stand to leave something I had worked so hard on
just rotting on my hard drive. So here's the whole damn thing for free.
It's about 160 pages if you want to print it out.

I think you are missing the point of this thread.  You, my good sir, have lost the internet.

The real purpose of this thread is to parody all of the threads in Speculation Nation that, while speculatory as what is implied to be required by the sub-forums name, could be speculated in one's own bathroom with some lotion and a tissue paper.

As long as we are talking about it though...  What *IF* Berserk were about pizza?

Griffith ordered the big pizza, the people he sacrificed were the tip, and Guts got shorted so now he is on an adventure to get what is rightfully his...  but he's about to get a lot more then he bargained for when he gets the berserk armor (i.e. extra toppings).

Yeah those look like pretty awful posts when you take them out of context like that.  I'm just going to drop this whole subject and hope you do the same.

edit:  I didn't revive it, it was the 3rd thread down on the menu...?

Geez Aazy baby, calm down.

I did a review of all of my past posts, and I dont think I am all that bad of a poster.  I tend to keep things relevant, if oppinionated.  I understand that you think your way works, and you are in charge so that works.  I know with some of the other forums I have visited (and I remember when I had joined this forum initially a year or so ago) that post count becomes a big problem because people will immediately try to cockblock any nub with a low post count, as if their mouth being bigger makes them a bigger expert.

I am sorry if you took my referring to your large number of posts as a negative thing, it was a joke.  I was satiring the thing I was arguing against by saying "well wait maybe postcount DOES equal superiority, after all you have lots of posts, and you are mod!"

Perhaps it was innapropriate and had been conceived as sass, but I really didn't mean it that way.  I'll try to keep it down on the vernacular jargon so I dont make you mad, because c'mon, I dont want to make you mad!  I want to make you happy!   :guts:

That doesn't change anything. I had 400 posts when I became administrator, and I had been around for quite a long time. I get to post much because I'm around and try to answer questions and correct errors as much as possible, but that's pretty much it.

Jesus H. Gonzales, you sure can be dense.  Dont make me press the report button on you because I bet you'd feel really dumb having to ban yourself because you can't smell my freshly brewed sarcastic bullshit. Burp.

Anyways seriously, get rid of post count, too many people use it as a standard of e-cock, and it encourages noobs to post a ton so they can get 2 little green heads instead of just one.

It's actually the qualities of your posts that really defines your contribution to the board, the quantity is vastly secondary (not even talking about the post count).
but look at how many posts you have and you are a mod!

So not worth sacrificing your posts for :P

Yeah because it's the quantity of posts that defines your contribution to the forums and not just your e-penis.

Old news. Thanks for the information anyways, it's been a while since I've read about it, and it's a better "first post" then I ever attempted to make.

edit: also, Goetz lost his arm in a dispute with a farmer, not from cannon fire.

Berserk Miscellaneous / Re: Insect scene from KING KONG / Berserk
« on: January 03, 2006, 01:38:16 AM »
My understanding is that it was not "lost".  It was just a scene with no effects added in that was scrapped in the original 1933 release.  The guys at Weta took the scene and did the effects using only what would have been possible to do at the time, then put it back into the movie.  I hear they did well.

I reiderate my comment from before:

Quote
Retrocrush article: "Though these scenes have since been restored, there's one sequence that was removed after the 1st screening, and has been lost forever.  When Kong shakes people off a giant log and they fall into the valley below, the original print featured giant crabs and spiders waiting below who proceeded to make a meal of them.  The director saw that the audience found this to be so shocking, they forgot all about the menace of Kong himself, so he proceeded to cut it out the next day."

The scene was complete, but because of it being such a disturbing scene it was cut from the film after the test screening, and apparently lost forever in a garbage can or something.  There are a couple of stills from the scene but that is all that has survived.  Without completely recreating the scene, I dont think it is possible that it could be recut into the film (unless of course the lost bit of film had been found somehow, which would be awesome).

I really would like to see the scene, whether original or recreated, though.   :serpico:

I missed that, sorry.

Something to note though; recutting it into the original would not be possible since the scene is entirely lost.  I dont see how this scene could be recut unless I am misunderstanding something.

The "bug scene" was definately not Berserk related, but I can tell you what it was an homage to.  In the original King Kong film many scenese were cut out but the most well known (and unfortunately 100% lost, save for some screen captures) was a scene where all of them men who fell into the pit, after kong shook them off the log, were all eaten by strange crab like creatures.  There was no deus ex machina in this case, and it was cut because in the test screening people were so horrified and disturbed that it distracted from the rest of the film, as well as just being entirely too much for the audience of that time to take.

What the heck? The story ending now? What do you think this is? Dragon Ball Z?

Now there was a show that was dragged on endlessly!  You dont see Guts spending 10 episodes powering up, thank god.

Trade it ind an get a Muvo with 2 gigs of flash memory.

My friend Deannie has an iPod and listens to all sorts of godawful crap and she still cant find a way to get over 3 gigs.  Sick.

2 gigs = 2,000 Megabytes = 475 songs @ 4.2 megs each, which is about the average size of an MP3 on my computer.  I dont think I even know 475 songs worth listening to, but then again I only listen to Gwar, Jethro Tull, Queen, Joy Electric, Blind Guardian, Pink Floyd, and a few other bands.

If you need every shitty techno/punk/ska/rap/country/omg industrial////... song ever made, go ahead and stick with the iPod since it can hold around 15,000 songs with it's got a 60 gig harddrive (WTF????).  Holy shit you have to be kidding me I just read that and now I definately have to punch the next moron I see with waxy white earbuds.  My Bang Olufsen ear buds kick 500x more ass.

Deannie is never happy when I go on an Apple-bash.
