My approach is always the same: just looking for the best upgrades and the next boss (I don't get the tendencies but I'm pretty light all over). I wrapped up worlds 1 and 2, Allant went down in 3 because I didn't know the range of his explosion and then I let him combo me when he was almost dead (:schierke:), didn't kill the dragon yet either, but am indeed exploring the mighty cool world 3 (it's totally Irithyll Dungeon)! So, I have found some cool NPCs there, the Royal Wife or whatever has some promising shit I need to buy all of, and I'd like to free Freke and see what he's got but I've seemingly cleared all the dungeon and haven't found his key yet... maybe I missed a spot or need to fight the boss (or the fucking thing is one of those items on ledges I've been ignoring). And I'm not sure if I should free old ghosty from his cell or not...

Sage Freke is a great character and has a lot of great spells, and yeah The Tower of Latria is very similar to the Irithyll Dungeon, more of that to come later on, world 5  :carcus:

DeS update: Flamelurker flamed out immediately when I got serious (human form, flame ring, flame shield, and some old spice) and the Penetrator become the penetrated on the first try (scary at first, but this guy was too much like Souls 101), though I was so pleased he disposed of that jestering Minister! Beyond that I took out some phantoms and I'm probably going to see how deep I can go into Boletarian Palace before exploring the other levels further (though maybe I'll kill more lizards in 2-2 to upgrade my trusty Claymore). Once I got my strength high enough to use that and the PFS, it's been all vitality and endurance ever since, but because I alreafy have them at 30 and 20 respectively and aren't having much trouble dodging, attacking or staying alive, I'm considering pumping my next few levels into Magic to see if I can get even more efficient there. Shit is just so easy to use, even though I could melee with him just fine most of my damage to Penetrator was chip damage from Soul Arrow because there was just constant safe openings. I'd like to try some other spells as well like Soul Ray and the fire spells; I bought the heal miracle but apparantly have nothing to cast it with! >_<

Yeah magic is pretty op in this game so go for it, how are you approaching the the different worlds? are you just doing them in order? if so then look forward to world 3 it's really good. Have you been seeking out npcs and following their quests at all or is that not the focus right now? same thing with world tendencies, next playthrough perhaps?  :carcus:

On a side note to this day I think that the Nexus is by far the best hub world in any souls game, it's insanely cool in every way.

And to stay on topic, other than Odyssey I've been playing Hellblade: Senua's sacrifice (PC) and Augmented Empire (GearVR), which are both great. Once that's done I want to get through Prey (got it during the Winter sales) and maybe the Dishonored 2 DLC "The Outsider's Death", since I hear it's very good and the first game's DLC actually was also pretty good (and extremely relevant to the second game's plot, too).

I loved prey, intriguing story, very atmospheric, great music and it felt like system shock and deus ex, the inventory, the leveling the powers  :judo: too good. I thought that death of the outsider was a great way to end this story arc, Billie's new powers are really fun to use, I hope you like it.

Strange that Natalie is the one to make this announcement and not YA. Did YA give the old "Berserk will be published monthly..." statement recently or no? This could just be Natalie wording that same announcement differently. As long as i get one volume per year I'm a happy camper, but if it takes longer it's understandable, can't rush greatness. This is potentially great news but I'm not gonna hype myself up until we get further confirmation like Aaz said.

Looks really sick, i need to get back into this series

Indeed, I have been wondering why they never bothered to make an English version of the artbook(s) (can't renenber if their is more then one for I have only one in french). Maybe they don't have the rights to make them?

It's probably not a rights issue, it's expensive to produce and they probably didn't think there was enough demand. DH won't take risks like that, the french manga market seems much larger than the north american market in general, they have a lot more series localized than we do here.

Purchased it this morning, gonna play it in the next few days. I'm sure that the Hirasawa track is great but I'm hearing that the entire soundtrack is great as well.

Editing is actually pretty meh, which goes with my feeling towards the whole things just looks like its copying effective uses of this type of video:
Like this guy, kaptain kristian, knows effective editing in this way.

I see, thanks for sharing, you seem to know a thing or two about this stuff so I'll take your word for it.
The way he put the panels together was pretty neat to me but I have zero knowledge in this field so I'm not hard to impress  :ganishka:

In my opinion most of these analysis videos on youtube are very pseudo-intellectual. And the guys whole point is based on terms to make people think his arguement is smart, but it limits the arguement. Title should've been ''Kinetic vs Picturesque in anime'' then I'd be completly fine

The video is garbage, the only good thing about it is the video editing.

"Statements like this, along with the incredibly long hiatuses have made many question Miura's physical and mental health"

Many what ... many morons? This is such a ridiculous reasoning. Miura doesn't plan details out years in advance, and he takes breaks. Add it up PERHAPS he's insane or incapacitated! Why even include rumor-monger stuff like this along with the other primary source material? I guess I should be happy they didn't bring up Idolm@ster?

Despite that portion, it's good overall. But I think they dipped their toes a little too heavily into riffraff commentary. Interviews with Miura? Great. But who cares what the 2016 or the 2011 animation people have to say about things? Their involvement with the series is tangential at best.

This is why i dislike Berserk Youtube related content, it's not just some guy posting some comment somewhere, but instead spreading misinformation to the masses. A bunch of idiotic baseless claims in so many videos, and the viewers end up believing them because they don't know any better.

Thanks for the info! At first I was surprised that volume 39 isn't available yet, but then I remembered it took them years to stock the more recent ones after they launched this online store. I hope they'll make it available faster this time.

This distributor is taking pre-orders for a 7/21/2017 release date. If i remember correctly, volume 38 was released digitally the same day as the physical volume, I'm not sure how things have worked in the past, though. I was expecting it to be released the same day as the YA issue but Bookwalker put up their pre-order a few days ago.

Movies, TV, Books & Music / Re: What are you reading?
« on: June 27, 2017, 06:37:52 PM »
I've been reading the Legend of Galactic Heroes novels, which have been released (finally) over the course of the past year. For the uninitiated, LoGH is a sci-fi known primarily for its 100+ episode animated series (OVA) that ran from the late 80s-early 90s. The OVAs are based on a series of five novels from the 80s.

I'm two books in right now, and in many ways I like these books even more than the OVAs-- which is quite a lot. The Kindle editions are $9 each. So for those who have already enjoyed the animation, I'd say buying these is seriously a no-brainer. Though it's hard for me to say though whether going in cold -- novels first -- would be the best way to experience the story. I think seeing the character and ship designs of the OVAs first helps make things easier to follow, overall.

I'm half way through the OVA series and i love it, it only gets better and better. I'm curious, how do you like the english translation/adaptation from VIZ? I know that there is probably no way to check the accuracy but how do you feel about the release itself?

There are also a few instances in the volume where panels get reused.
On the left, there are obviously differences but there are also striking similarities, hatch lines are placed in the exact same places throughout, the nose, the bangs on the hair etc.... On the right, the whole thing is copied then slightly adjusted because of the lighting of the scene. Again, this isn't a big deal at all and I'm sure you all noticed as well but they stuck out like a sore thumb.

My only complaint about the current berserk art style (and this is just minor) is the way guts' face looks, this is just personal preference but i prefer how he looked in previous volumes. Berserk's art style never stays and it will continue to evolve in the coming years. I hope i didn't come off as if i was making a big deal about any of this because that wasn't the intention.
