Berserk Miscellaneous / Re: Overview of Berserk's episodic releases

That's why I originally made it. :slan:

Yeah, the cover date is always ahead of the actual release date by one increment.

Good question. I forgot to be honest. I would need to check, but as you can imagine information dating back from that era is hard to come by.

Man, that's an exaustive list! Thx for sharing that Aaz. It's always interesting to me to see the progression.

Just to be sure, the "ominous large shadow in the thicket" Sonia mentioned in the previous release was definitely referring to the Hydra correct? We shouldn't expect some other entity to still be lurking about, right?

I think so..

I think the scale is off in the first two pages. The giants should be roughly the same size as Zodd, but here they look minuscule next to the hydra.

That's because they're teen warriors. They're not fully grown yet.  :ganishka:

That's the best case scenario, then. It means the strange brief pacing of the past two releases will be limited to the episodic experience, not the volume experience. I'm fine with that, particularly if it facilitates more regular releases.  It's just a shame that it comes with a cost of less to discuss each month.

I'm wondering if this is gonna turn into a new kind of standard. Probably not for all the next episodes to come but maybe when one said episode can afford it (like in this case during an action sequence that can be cut in half) to avoid some hyatus? Like Walter said, it could facilitates the releases.

But with a leaping strike! Pretty cool indeed. While this episode was basically just eye candy, I have to say it was premium grade stuff.

For sure! And that amazing panel where we see Griffith coming in the giant's eye reflection. Feast for the eyes.

Someone on Reddit said that this is an addition to Episode 356, that's why it's so short. If it's true, it makes sense, maybe YA editors or Miura himself chop those pieces so we don't get hiatuses.

So technically it is still 356, I think. It's going to be less confusing in the volume.

Could make sense indeed. It would put the episode to a total of  24 pages. And since there is no classic title in one of the pages (and we already knew it was gonna be called Jotunn (2)) but some kind of "previously on" page just at the beginning, could mean the case. Meaning we might get another one in june.

Anyways, back to watching the art because it is incredible as always. (I almost got scared for Zodd)

Speculation Nation / Re: So i have this theory
« on: April 26, 2018, 06:55:46 PM »
Sure sure. I think we pretty have the same kind of thought about the subject. I was just curious about if they would be allowed to leave (lets say some hear about another safe haven) or not. As in, if they leave, Griffith will have less people Under control. Now don't get me wrong, I know there is a shit load of people in Falconia and it would need to be a semi big outgoing to make him react but I dunno. Maybe an apostle would take it in his own hand to decide that one cannot go.

Very interesting to talk about it though. It was fun!  :guts:

If there was a faction trying to leave the city? Well, thinking on it a bit more, I don't think they would be allowed to leave, but it would probably be dressed up in a way that makes it seem like it is being done for their own safety.

Well there you go, you just answered in your words my question. It was more of a "what do you think" question.

Like you said and like it has been said multiple times on the board, I do not think either that it's the only plan they have of course. But the main part of their unknown plan is that for the moment. Get people in Falconia and have yourself a better control over humanity.

But hey it's still feasable to live outside of Falconia anyway and with the good knowledge (that say, Guts group and the magic users) people would be able to better live outside the walls and have at least a choice where they want to live. I don't know if I express myself clear enough but Aaz did touch what I'm trying to convey in another thread. Being told :" Sure you can leave whenever you want" knowing that you won't last long outside is still being some kind of "no choice anyway" when we know it's not true because there are ways to make it alive outside Falconia.

Remove the knowledge or prevent it from getting to the people they sure won't try to find another option.

but thx for sharing your opinion on the subject.

Ps: I'm pretty sure griffith has something not that nice in mind somehow. He is a demon after all and was explicitely shown that they are after all, evil.  :femto:

Well, as it was pointed already they don't really have a choice anyway. But if for an unkown reason, some people start to put the pièces together and figure out it would be wiser to leave, would they be stopped or not? That was more the question. And I ask that because that's kinda the plan, to get a shitload of people in the only "safe" city.

I mostly agree with your take (or rather, yours mostly agrees with mine from a decade ago :flora:), but I think you understate the fact people don't have a choice. They either live in Falconia or die outside. And the last time we saw someone try to leave, Rakshas was going after them.

Rickert is kinda a special case though since he knows stuff people don't about Griffith. What I Wonder though is : can a human leave Falconia on his own without being persued? Now I know they would probably not last long outside the protection of Falconia, which comes back to your point that they don't really have a choice. But would they be allowed to leave?

Another interesting detail I've noticed is we see two humans knights wearing Locus' cross on their helmets. Not sure if that's supposed to have a specific meaning or if it's just becoming a common design in Falconia's armies.

I did not noticed that! Might be the generals now have a division of their own or something like that. Or some soldiers associates with some apostle, thus them making helmet or armour similar to their leader. Either way, very interesting.

However we know the concept of karma exists within Berserk. Among other things it is what decides whether souls go to hell (the Vortex) or not. So one of the possibilities I've considered is that maybe there exists a form of reincarnation in the Berserk universe. I mean that in the Buddhist sense, not to be confused with Femto's incarnation in volume 21. Maybe some of the bad souls wander for a while in the astral world and then take new forms, fitting of their past behavior. Like that of a troll. One of Slan's lines in volume 26 kind of hints at that possibility: "Here, near the realm of the dead, is the womb of darkness where loathed souls/spirits form their astral bodies."

Well that's another interesting thing to bring to the table. I've never really thought about that but you got me curious now. With time we might learn more if thats the case or not.

This is one of the many reasons I like to hang around here. So full of imput or nice ideas that are brought up. I'm not good in trying to speculate so I enjoy a lot what is said here instead. It helps me to better understand the story even though I've read it a lot of times. Again, thanx you for existing Skullknight and crew!  :ubik:

I like the giant's armour made out of human stuff like a regular armour used for leg padding and a boat used for a helmet. Priceless!

I must add that Sonia's face doesn't seem to happy about that attack (might be that I read her wrong) but she does seem happy... Might be she's starting to be against such savagery? I would not necessarily bet on that though.

Thoughts?

Nice, thanks for the info Heiji!

See, I told you guys not to always be so hasty to draw conclusions about the release schedule...

True. And didn't they say before the serie resumed in december that it was supposed to be each month now? I know we were "on guard" to not get our hopes too high in case it was just a mini stretch of a release. But maybe it's really going monthly.  Either way it's a great news!

Thx for the heads up!

Whoa! I wonder if we should dare to dream about a larger print size and improved quality. Hopefully, it at least won't be the opposite.

If that happens, my bank account will cry... It's gonna be Worth it thought. Some of my volumes are pretty beat up.

Current Episodes / Re: Status of Berserk's Pre-publication

I only expect 8 in Vol 40, so there should be 3 left:

. 351: Forest of Corpses and Thorny Cedars
. 352: Main Culprit
. 353: Final Fragment
. 354: Awakening
. 355: Yo Casca's Back
. 356: TBD
. 357: TBD
. 358: TBD

Other way around -- Vol 39 was the first to only include 8 eps (which was weird, because they could have feasibly bound 351 in the volume). Anyway, I dunno. I think it's more important that he releases 1 volume per year, whether it's 8-9 eps is pretty small potatoes.

I meant vol 39 for the 8ep and yeah I had in mind that the new ones are gonna be 8 ep long. My bad.

To be honest I don't care if there is 8,9 or 10. Because like you said as long as he's able to release a volume a year I'll be satisfied.

It was just a curiosity I had in mind.  :slan:

And I thought we still needed 4 to get to 8 épisodes for the next volume. I did not really check how many were out already hehe.

Yeah, I think it'll be back sometime in 2018. Miura still has time to release the remaining 3 episodes required to publish Vol 40 before December, making the third year in a row he's had a volume.

That's true, there is only 3 episodes left to make a volume. I tought it was 4 left!

Do you think future volumes will stay at 8 episodes per volume for a while or it'll come back to 9 episodes like the last few (except 38 wich I tnk had only 8ep in it)?
