Anime Asylum / Re: New Berserk Anime for 2016
« on: June 12, 2016, 06:17:55 PM »
Titles of the first 5 episodes have been released, and they are simultaneously disappointing and relieving.

1. 竜殺しの大剣 (Large Sword Dragonslayer)
2. 聖鉄鎖騎士団 (Holy Iron Chain Knights)
3. 奇跡の夜 (Night of Miracle)
4. 啓示 (Revelation)
5. 断罪の塔 (Tower of Conviction)

Shitty translations courtesy of Google Translate and my best guesses.

Looks like Guardians of Desire and Lost Children are out, which sucks, but this also means that the full 24 episodes will be devoted to Binding Chains and Birth Festival.

I swear, Berserk is cursed, anime wise.

And the sad part is that doing a faithful adaptation wouldn't be hard. But no one wants to do it right.

Skipping Lost Children wouldn't even be necessary, if they were smart about it.

There are three parts they want to cover, right?

Black Swordsman, Lost Children, and Tower of Conviction. I threw Guardians of Desire in with Black Swordsman as both set up Guts' character as very big, scary man that killed things, and Griffith as Femto.

And the anime is twenty four episodes long. So each part could get eight episodes in total.

Eight for Black Swordsman, eight for Lost Children, and eight for Tower of Conviction. I doubt they could finish Tower in eight episodes, but they could leave off on a cliffhanger or something to tease a second season.

That'd be a Hell of a lot better than just skipping entire arcs because reasons.

Now all we have to do is wait for a new trailer. The news coming out lately has made me pretty damn hyped (I really enjoyed Psycho Pass and Bento).

And it sounds like Miura actually has some power this time around, so this adaptation might actually be good.

This may not apply, because I use Netflix, but it says the same thing with Gurren Lagaan.

Season 1, despite only having the one.

You're correct, it's a convenience thing.

Anime Asylum / Flaws in the 1997 Anime
« on: February 07, 2016, 05:06:51 PM »
So the new trilogy wasn't the best. It was choppy, full of bad CGI, and the only real reason I personally enjoyed it was that it had the name 'Berserk' on it. Everybody tends to, justifiably, shit on the new trilogy while holding the 97 adaptation to a high esteem.

However, with the new project coming out in July (please, God, don't let them fuck it up) I think we should also address the issues the old anime had.

The flaws I had the most beef against was the lack of Puck and the Skull Knight. I get that they didn't want to introduce Puck that early for a series that was probably, and in fact didn't, continue after the Eclipse,  but the Skull Knight was pretty damn important. Without him, the entire ending to the series feels very abrupt. They could have at least had him show up to save Guts and Casca after the rape scene.

Also, without Puck, the entire Black Swordsman episode feels clunky and half developed. It jumps from one point to the next, trying to compensate for the entire plot shift it had to take.

These are just personal gripes of mine. Anyone else have any grievances against the original anime?

I'm just happy to know when it's coming out.

Now all we have to do is wait to see if we need our pitchforks or our party streamers.

Personally, I'd like to see something from before Black Swordsman

The slug guy (I think he was either the Baron or the Count, but I can't for the life me remember) mentions that Guts killed more than a few Apostles by the time he got there. It'd be neat to see a few examples.

Something before Lost Children would be cool too.

Manga Mausoleum / Re: Little Things You Love About Berserk

I think I just like how little "anime" it has.

You know? Like no teardrop on the head or the one guy with the huge appetite. Shit like that.

Puck definitely pushes it on occasion though, so I will give it that. However, I tend to ignore it and get back to the serious stuff

It feels like a western story that's adapted into a manga. Very appealing and approachable without it having to be included into my "shame corner" of anime. The ones no one can prove I watched or read.

I'm gonna cop out and go with Guts'.

What a way to start a manga, by having your main guy fuck a demon in the woods and have him fill her insides with his cannon load. XD

Speculation Nation / Re: What to expect in Elfhelm
« on: January 11, 2016, 09:36:36 PM »
I honestly think that if Guts decides to gun for Griffith again, the conflict would be keeping revenge out of it.

Basically, circumstances would force Guts to come back (group included or not) due to the Astral beings attack Elfhelm or the Godhand deciding to screw with them again. So he goes to finish everything, but the Beast of Darkness is trying to tempt him into going nuts. It's all but confirmed that they will eventually have to deal with Griffith and his kingdom. It's all a matter of when, why, and how. And I'm guessing that if it does happen, Guts would want to go alone, or take Puck along at most, thinking he got his friends to safety so he should be the one to deal with it.

I watched The Departed and Snowpiercer yesterday. Both blew my ass away, and are two of my favorite movies now.

Speculation Nation / Is the Beast of Darkness actually "real"?
« on: September 23, 2015, 01:04:42 AM »
This has always been an interesting subject to me in regards to theories about Berserk. Personally, I really like the subplot about the Beast of Darkness getting into Guts' head and basically telling him to MURDER EVERYTHING. But a thought always crossed my mind.

Is the Beast of Darkness actually there? From what I've seen,  only Guts is the one that notices it. His Brand, assuming I am not forgetting a part, never activates when the Beast of Darkness is talking to him. The only solid evidence I've seen where the Beast of Darkness might be an actual demon is when the Berserker Armor changes when he goes nuts. Even then, they already established that the armor was cursed beforehand, maybe even possessed.

So was the thing in the armor taking the form of the Beast of Darkness to mock Guts, or was it the other way around, and that the thing used the armor to manifest?

Basically,  did Guts go crazy and imagined it? Or was it a literal demon following him around, like the others?

I always think of this song when I reread the early Black Swordsman episodes.

I saw a bunch of people posting pictures of their dvds on Twitter. I'm not willing to put the effort in to actual confirm it, but people were buying them. I did it the smart way and got a friend to buy them instead. If I actually spent money them, I would have been pissed off more so than necessary.

depend's if it selled poorly then the it could be dead they should have just with the OVA.

Apparently they sold okay. Probably not enough to justify another theatrical release (which would be bad idea due to butthurt censor nerds). OVA remains the best option. Look at Hellsing Ultimate. Blood for days.

Dude. Best of both worlds. Kick ass.

Now we just have to wait until they actually adapt something other than Golden Age.

Quite the negative nelly. I get that one Tweet isn't much, but it's just wishful thinking.

And I wouldn't say that a game isn't the right medium for it. As long as it is done right, it doesn't matter how it is adapted.

And to clarify, what I mean by slow and brutal is that Platinum games focus on speed and mobility (Bayonetta,  Metal Gear Rising, Viewtiful Joe, etc.). So a game that focuses more on slow, strategic strikes sounds interesting.

Huh. Well that's quite the coincidence.

Berserk Miscellaneous / How should they do a Berserk game?
« on: August 24, 2015, 07:18:48 PM »
We all know how the director from Metal Gear Rising said that he wanted to make a Kill La Kill or Berserk game. Praying to God for the latter got me thinking.

How should they do a game, if it ever happens? Should they just adapt the manga,  or add a side story? Gameplay?

Personally, as long as the gameplay is slow and brutal,  and full of the red stuff, I'd be satisfied.
