and the mushroom creatures surrounding it haven't appeared either

They have, quite a few times actually.

Maybe Miura really did hand over story points the guy had to follow

This is the really big question to me, are these actually Miura's concepts or is this just Makoto Fukami fan-fiction.  At least if this is just a novelized version of Miura's story we can take the basic facts seriously.  I really wish we had a way of knowing for sure.

I really like the poster of the Sovereign of the Flower Storm, I think it's one of the best illustrations in recent memory.

I was surprised by the red eyes. :isidro:  They go well with the pink.

Lastly, I love the little picture inside even more (it's about this volume's real stars: the mushrooms).

I like the little elf hiding behind them, the effect makes it look very ghostly.

it brought new fans, which I can't comprehend but it did?

Probably not the kind of fans we would prefer.

Regarding the blood: it's the way it was written(グルンベルド自身も命の危機にさらされた時にグルンベルドの血でベヘリットが発動。). On the sacrifice portion I guess Grunbeld didn't want to sacrifice his family initially but they saw it as the only way out of the dire situation and convinced him to do the deed.

If this is true, this is highly inconsistent with the way things work in the series.  The sacrifice just doesn't work this way.  Not a good sign....

I know that in recent times Miura hasn't done any significant changes to episodes in the volume release but i was hoping he might touch up episode 347. That episode looks worse than any other episode from the last few years, very unpolished.

Well I thoroughly disagree with that, but no there are no changes to this episode.

My guess is he thought it looked good like this and just didn't bother to change it.

Uh...  I doubt that.

Are there any new romanized names in the little character sheets?

Just the usual, no new ones.

Wow, so there's only 8 episodes in the volume? Damn, that's not very encouraging...

It seems clear this volume was rushed out.  It answers a lot of question and is a shame.  Hopefully this is the last time this sort of thing has to happen.  Also, there don't seem to be any apparent changes in the episodes.

If anyone is curious, the newest episode is not in the volume.

It has already been established that it is an original story by Makoto Fukami. There is no doubt about it. And given that Miura is illustrating it, I find it hard to dismiss the idea that it is canon.

It wasn't that I was doubting it, but voicing my disgust at the official backstory of a character actually being written by some hack anime writer.

If this really is a "fully original story by Makoto Fukami" and it's supposed to be canon...  I don't think I even wanna fucking know about it.   :rickert:

Seems to be the first 2 pages of the novel http://www.younganimal.com/berserk/trial.html

One of the illustrations and a small description about the content in japanese

This would have been great in the manga...

The apostles assault on Wyndham and Ganishka's introduction were cut entirely. That includes Silat and the Tapasa finding Ganishka's daka chamber.

This, along with the Moonlight Boy being cut, definitely suggests there aren't any plans for more, if that wasn't already apparent.  Man, what a mess.  Good riddance.

I love the music, the SFX, the CGI

I can't believe anyone could honestly say this.   :magni:

I had to re-read some chapters, and ever entire volumes 3/4 times to actually understand what was going on.

Which parts were so confusing to you exactly?  It's fairly straightforward...

By comparison the anime is very easy to follow.

I don't think this adaptation will make anything easier to understand for the casual viewer.  In fact, it would likely have the opposite effect.

It's really a shame that we have monthly releases.

It's pretty strange to see someone say it's a shame that we have monthly releases.

the audacity as fans for all of or even most of the characters to get back stories at this point, it's a ludicrous thought.

I think you're really exaggerating the amount of characters that still have backstories yet to be shown.  And it is well within Miura's capabilities to pull them off with what's left of the story, especially given how he's handled these things in the past.  It's hardly ludicrous.  And how much backstory do we really need for Grundbeld anyway?

Flower Storm King

Not sure if you're caught up with the series, but we now know it's a lady. :slan:   So Sovereign of the Flower Storm is now the appropriate title.

Apparently it premiered in Shonen Jump exactly ten days before I was born.

Fun fact: volume one of Berserk was released in Japan four days before I was born.   :guts:

Other than that, I also really love Akira

I really liked the first three volumes and most of the fourth.  I may be in the minority but I was incredibly disappointed with it after that.  I thought it became a huge, drawn out mess.

Nausicaš of the Valley of the Wind was great, my second to Berserk.  I'm currently working through Parasyte and Monster.  Both pretty good so far.

Griffith is using Casca's child as a vessel/hostage. Griffith lives in Falconia. Where else is Casca supposed to go if she wants to save/protect her child?

How is she even suppose to get there?  Have you really thought any of this through?  None of what you're proposing makes any sense, whether from a character and story perspective or from a logistical one.

Alien: Covenant

I really didn't like that trailer.  I don't think I'll go out of my way to see this.

I haven't had a chance to view the Blade Runner trailer yet, but isn't Fury Road a pretty authentically legitimate entry in the canon? I mean, it's by Miller and is arguably the best film in the series (true fans know The Road Warrior is supreme, but I digress =). The proliferation of Interceptors aside, I also think it makes sense as a vaguely timed sequel in the anthology of the character where Max is that much madder from longterm isolation in the wasteland, judging by his initial appearance.

Also, doesn't it seem like they're more trying to make this a direct throughline sequel than that with Ford and all? I mean, its very existence ruins the ending of the last movie unless they get really out there with it (check for Hideo Kojima's name in the writing credits).

Yes to everything.  I suppose what I meant was more that I'll try and appreciate it personally on it's own merit rather than making to much out of it being an unnecessary sequel to one of my all time favorite movies.  Time will tell, and I wouldn't be surprised if I have to eat those words during/after the actual film.  But so far I like what I see.  It's probably a good thing Ridley Scott isn't the director this time (oh how times have changed).

Hmm.  I was fully ready to dislike this completely just for existing, but honestly I really like the look and feel of that teaser.  I might be willing to view this as more of a Mad Max: Fury Road-esque homage than a legitimate sequel (even if that is what it's supposed to be).

But do you think Guts' white hair will be cured and will be back to its original color?

What would be the point in that?
