Context could go both ways too, like will Guts bad actions seem even worse in association with the memories of the Eclipse, etc all presented together at once, or as points on some trauma continuum. That shot of him at the center of the Eclipse wasn't a great omen.

Indeed, it is certainly complex.  I guess Miura could end up  making Casca hate or fear Guts again due to those's just that I don't see it lasting long, especially considering we've already dealt with that for years now from Elaine.  I'm seeing bigger issues ahead for the group in the long run.  I will say depicting him at the center of the Eclipse was curious.  I see it more as the memories of the eclipse radiating out from Guts as a catalyst, rather than him being some big central evil or trauma for the whole affair.  And honestly, I'd be surprised if Casca didn't react with some sort of scream or other traumatic response after comprehending those memories.

I don't think she's going to hold the Eclipse against him either, even if he reminds her of it, but perhaps some of his questionable decisions afterward. We'll hopefully know pretty quickly in the next episode if that's all something that just came flooding back or if she already knew but was ready to forgive him for.

I suppose that depends on how she recalls those events.  As a fellow eclipse survivor, if she is able to comprehend everything post eclipse with the big picture in mind I think she'll sympathize with much of the way Guts acted.  However if she recalls events sporadically and without context I definitely could see there being issues.  It's already a miracle that Guts was a functional (semi-functional) human-being after the eclipse.

This was touched on a bit, but one thing I'm unsure of is the nature of Casca's reaction to Guts.  Is this going to have lasting implications on her attitude towards him, or was he merely a catalyst for the resurgence of her traumatic memories?  I'm leaning towards this not really impacting their relationship at all, and this is merely Casca's true realization, similar to Guts' when he first awoke after the eclipse.  I don't think Guts will be a source of her PTSD, but I think he will invoke feelings of deep sadness in her.  That was one hell of a way to lose an arm and an eye, all while watching her rape.  In any case, a lot of people in other forums and what not seem to think there will be some huge wall between them (or the usual ridiculous shenanigans of Casca returning to Griffith).  I'm just not seeing Guts and his relation to the Eclipse as something that will get between them, at least not significantly.

As for the art, I honestly think Miura is always improving.  Casca is beautiful (I love her dress and braids), the art is beautiful, and the manga just keeps getting better.

Ah, it's too much.  No story has ever impacted me like Berserk does.  I was hoping the sequence would end in a final panel with Casca opening her eyes, and Miura delivered!  :casca:  I started reading in 2003, so not quite as long as some others here, but it sure was a long journey to this point.  :judo:  I don' think I've ever as enthusiastically thought, "What happens next?" as I have now.

Indeed. A small regret is that we didn't see any memories highlighting events we didn't already know of. But I guess it makes sense if we think of the fragments as being related to the cause of all this.

I'm not sure if it's just my imagination, but even more so in this episode I feel a sense of urgency and excitement directly from Miura through his art.  It's almost as if he is exceptionally enthusiastic about what's coming next and can't wait to show the readers.  Certainly it would be cool to see a few unique scenes and some more episodes in this dream sequence, but it's fun seeing Miura this passionate about his work (not that he isn't always passionate!).  It's a great time to be reading Bersesrk.  :guts:

On a side note, I still can't shake that crazy idea I had when we first saw that nightmarish landscape: the fact the black sun eerily looks like an eye with that white background and that peculiar break in the clouds. I think the resemblance is pretty strong in this episode. The idea I put out at the time is that maybe the black sun will morph into her last look in Guts' eye when he watched powerless as Femto violated her. I think that'd make sense in the context of her being "broken" by misconceived feelings of shame and guilt. Not to mention how much more powerful it would make her last words during the Eclipse: "Don't look." And given how much Guts has been featured in her memories so far, I'd say it makes even more sense now. Hell, if I push it, that spiky mountain could even pierce the "eye" (although I still expect the mountain to act as a symbol for the hand).

I'm not sure how I missed this being mentioned before.  It just works so well given the context, and I think calling it a "crazy idea" is going a bit too far.  Certainly it has more weight than being the Beast of Darkness's eye, which makes no sense at all.  I look forward to seeing if this prediction comes to fruition.

For some reason I never really considered the weight of Casca's guilt and shame, especially from the standpoint of Guts having to watch her rape, being a major factor in her breaking.  I've always looked at it being from Griffiths ultimate betrayal and the Eclipse as a whole, but it really does make sense that it could be the most significant factor here.
