We are pleased to inform you that 2 of our items:

Berserk Watch: White Model & ZIPPO “Eclipse” will be reopened for order as special Xmas 2006 Edition.

Date of order reopening:

Berserk Watch: White Model-11:00 am, 8 December (Japanese time) http://www.art-of-war.co.jp/english/items/detail.php?gid=179

ZIPPO “Eclipse”-11:00 am, 15 December (Japanese time) http://www.art-of-war.co.jp/english/items/detail.php?gid=182

ART OF WAR

Nothing new, just previous items available again. Neither of them was very successful in the first place as far as I know (even though both were manufactured on a client by client basis), so I'm not sure what to think of this. Looks like they're basically trying to sell more of them using Christmas as a pretext.

Video Games / Lik-Sang.com out of business due to multiple Sony lawsuits

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - OUT OF BUSINESS NOTICE

Hong Kong, October 24th of 2006 - Lik-Sang.com, the popular gaming retailer from Hong Kong, has today announced that it is forced to close down due to multiple legal actions brought against it by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited and Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Sony claimed that Lik-Sang infringed its trade marks, copyright and registered design rights by selling Sony PSP consoles from Asia to European customers, and have recently obtained a judgment in the High Court of London (England) rendering Lik-Sang's sales of PSP consoles unlawful.

As of today, Lik-Sang.com will not be in the position to accept any new orders and will cancel and refund all existing orders that have already been placed. Furthermore, Lik-Sang is working closely with banks and PayPal to refund any store credits held by the company, and the customer support department is taking care of any open transactions such as pending RMAs or repairs and shipping related matters. The staff of Lik-Sang will make sure that nobody will get hurt in the crossfire of this ordeal.

A Sony spokesperson declined to comment directly on the lawsuit against Lik-Sang, but recently went on to tell Gamesindustry.biz that "ultimately, we're trying to protect consumers from being sold hardware that does not conform to strict EU or UK consumer safety standards, due to voltage supply differences et cetera; is not - in PS3's case - backwards compatible with either PS1 or PS2 software; will not play European Blu-Ray movies or DVDs; and will not be covered by warranty".

Lik Sang strongly disagrees with Sony's opinion that their customers need this kind of protection and pointed out that PSP consoles shipped from Lik-Sang contained genuine Sony 100V-240V AC Adapters that carry CE and other safety marks and are compatible world wide. All PSP consoles were in conformity with all EU and UK consumer safety regulations.

Sony's so nice, they're doing this to protect the poor European customers against products that aren't adapted to their regions. :schierke: They had already managed to get Play-Asia to stop selling import Sony products (most notably PSP) to Europeans, but it's more serious for Lik-Sang it seems. Of course this is all done with the PS3 in mind, so that Europeans cannot import it before its official release in their countries.

What to say... These guys are dipshits. I'm not sure whether they're purposedly trying to get everybody to hate them or not, but if so it's a success.

News & Not News / North Korea's first nuclear test

SEOUL, South Korea (CNN)  -- North Korea claimed it conducted a successful underground nuclear test Monday, according to the country's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

China, a close ally of North Korea, denounced the claimed test as "brazen" and South Korea said it would respond "sternly." The United States said a test would constitute a "provocative act."

South Korea's president said Pyongyang's claimed test "broke the trust of the international community."

President Roh Moo-hyun said it brought "a severe situation that threatens stability on the Korean Peninsula and in northeast Asia."

South Korea would "react sternly and calmly" with "appropriate measures" in close cooperation with the international community, he told journalists after a summit with new Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Abe told the same news conference his country would work "to make ways to implement action for a tough resolution."

Haha, I didn't think they could do it. I wonder how it'll develop on a diplomatic level, since now it's clear nobody's going to take military action against them. Here's to hoping their regime will evolve into something more humane somewhere down the line, and maybe even progress toward an eventual reunification.

PS: They'd better not bomb Miura though.

Shootin' the Breeze / [FRENCH] French speaking thread
« on: September 15, 2006, 04:25:43 AM »
We have quite a bit of international members here, and some of them are reduced to lurking due to their lack of skill with the English language. Taking into account the number of members involved and how I was often asked about this, I've decided to give some of these persons a chance to ask a few questions or request explanations about Berserk in their own language in a specific thread. That way they can get a few notions cleared out, and discuss to some extent their favorite manga within the SK.net context. It's just an experience that's limited to one thread and it's going to be pretty strictly moderated so things stay on the topic of Berserk most of the time. It's not meant to segregate members or create a subcommunity, nor to change the fact that SK.net is a strictly English-based website. It's just to provide a place where people less at ease with English can for once stop lurking and participate a bit.

The reason it's a French-speaking thread and not Spanish or anything else is obviously because I speak French so I can take care of it myself. People are welcome with some reserve to create threads for other languages if they want to, but it's limited to one thread per language and it'll need to have a regular member supervising it. If you have questions about it just PM me.

Of course, non-French speaking members are kindly asked not to troll the thread, whether they're babelfishing what they say or not. The only exception to the rule is if people have an honest, serious question regarding a word or sentence in French, or want to try to practice their skill with it with native speakers. Useless posts will be mercilessly deleted. Oh and I know the thread title sucks, but I was pretty uninspired when I came up with it.

Movies, TV, Books & Music / Death of a President

TORONTO, Ontario (Reuters) -- After you kill off President George W. Bush in a fictional film, what do you do? How about make a deal.

Gabriel Range, the British producer/director/creator of "Death of a President," the fictional documentary that sight unseen became one of the most talked-about movies of the Toronto Film Festival, has sold U.S. distribution rights to Newmarket Films, which handled Mel Gibson's equally provocative movie "The Passion of the Christ."

Newmarket, which reportedly paid $1 million for the film, is expected to give "President" a wide release within the next few months. It will air on Britain's Channel 4 next month.

Range's film opened on Sunday night to a sell-out festival crowd, which sat respectfully through it and applauded briefly at the end. Those who remained after the screening peppered the filmmaker with questions on how he achieved his special effects.

The film is shot as if it were a conventional television documentary, even though the events are fictional.

Anyone looking forward to this movie? I know a lot of people in the Middle East that do. :carcus:

Berserk Merchandise / AOW Release - ZIPPO
« on: September 08, 2006, 02:38:08 AM »
AOW's planning to release a ZIPPO, themed after beherits. They'll take orders starting September 15, 2006. Price is set at 9,000円 without tax (~$77). It'll be covered in leather (with red and black colors) and from the pictures I've seen it's pretty ugly IMHO, not at all on par with the classy ones Movic released years ago: Movic 01 - Movic 02. Here's the picture:

The measurements are: 5.6 cm (height), 4 cm (width), 1.3 cm (depth), and 62.5 g (weight). Pre-orders will start on September 15 at 11:00 AM, and will end on October 07 at 6:00 PM.

Ah well, it's still better than the cheap unofficial ones... Or is it? :SK:

I'll update the post with official pictures once AOW will put some online. Just look at what it's not in the meantime. :void:

EDIT: Picture and some more info added.

HAY WHEN WILL THEY GET ON TEH BOAT? :troll:

So, looks like it's Zodd sparing Guts (and the group I guess) again, let's hope he wasn't too pissed by the trash-talking in the last episode. :void: And that smoke on him could be from the previous attack/landing, but also from Serpico... Most probably wishful thinking though, Guts has the same on him. So now what, maybe the group will get on Roderick's ship riding the apostles in the background (on Zodd's order since Guts helped with Ganishka)? :troll:

Bruce Willis just won't die — again.

The 51-year-old actor has signed on to a fourth Die Hard movie, 20th Century Fox said Wednesday, returning him to the wisecracking tough-guy character that made him an action star 18 years ago.

The film, titled Live Free or Die Hard, features his John McClane police officer attempting to stop a techno-terrorist from shutting down the nation's computer systems on the Fourth of July. The story takes place around Washington, D.C., and will be directed by Underworld: Evolution filmmaker Len Wiseman.

http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2006-08-02-die-hard_x.htm

I have a bad feeling about this.

"Our villain is high tech, but the way McClane deals with him is low-tech," Wiseman says. "A fistfight still solves a lot of problems." Wiseman says the fourth outing "will be a more epic movie. It's on a much grander scale. The threat is nationwide."

Site & Forum News / New subcategories in Shootin' the Breeze
« on: July 31, 2006, 09:41:24 PM »
Hey all,

We've decided to give this a try to see if it would dynamize the Shootin' the Breeze section. Basically these are specialized child boards that exist within Shootin' the Breeze but are dedicated to one subject. Doing this should allow people to be more at ease when posting specific threads concerning these subjects.

For now there will be 3 of those sub-sections: Video Games, Movies & Books, and Random News.

Threads that fall under these categories should be posted in the according sub-section from now on, and of course all the others can go in the main Shootin' the Breeze section like they did before. On that note, people shouldn't hesitate to post threads in there as long as they deem them worthy of interest, it's encouraged.

It's some kind of an experiment for now, so feedback is welcome.

Video Games / Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
« on: July 22, 2006, 09:14:05 AM »
This is the new Castlevania game that's coming out for the NDS around November 15, 2006.

Handsome Rakshas and I are pretty pumped about it so I've decided to post a thread to cut down on PM traffic. :void:

The game's story takes place during World War II, in 1944, and has a vampire called Brauner along with his twin daughters planning to summon Dracula's castle to resurrect him. You get to play as two characters, Jonathan Morris (son of John Morris from Castlevania: Bloodlines) and Charlotte Orlean (a sorceress descendant of the Belnades bloodline). These two will have to help each other in real time and can both be controlled by the player alternatively as well as attack together in combos, etc.

Here are two videos showcasing the gameplay, the E3 2006 trailer and a more recent and longer video featuring additional gameplay.

Here's a summary of the episode: We see the flying apostles attacking Ganishka, passing above the group and getting fried as if they were meaningless. They all get killed seemingly effortlessly by a huge lightning attack that hits everything, the burning head of one of them falling right next to the group. Some thunder barely misses Serpico so Guts tells him to get away (sensing that the situation's turning bad), Serpico is hesitating but eventually does. After that Guts thinks to himself that he'll end up as a piece of charred meat if he sticks around too long. Then Zodd arrives. He lands on a roof near the group (and Farnese recognises him from Albion, like Casca apparently) and watches Ganishka...

And suddenly propulses himself at high speed towards him! Ganishka casts lightning at him and hits him directly, but Zodd takes the hit without slowing down and flies right through him! That's inefficient however and the fog figure instantly reforms itself, with Daiba commenting. That doesn't stop Zodd though (although it visibly hurts him) and he attacks again while taking Ganishka's lightning, finally rushing him together with a bunch of other apostles. Ganishka then morphs into a huge cloud with the apostles inside and electrocutes them once again, killing them all (save for Zodd obviously) and sending a burning Zodd flying and crashing on Guts (and into the sea).

Next episode will be released on July 28.

Berserk Merchandise / Berserk Wrist Watch - White Model

It's available for preorders.

http://www.art-of-war.co.jp/english/items/detail.php?gid=179

I'm not sure what AOW's thinking with this one though. They conveniently say the Black Model suits Guts and the White one Griffith, but it's actually the exact same watch with a white background. Nothing else changed, they kept the Brand logo and all. Hell, they even left the summary saying it embodies the spirit of Guts in their English description.

A bold move knowing that the Black Model still hasn't sold out. It's also 65,000円 and also limited to 200 units.

Here's a link to the first about the first one for those interested.

Well, looks like we might once again not be getting any preview for this episode, so I'm at least posting the title.

This is also a pun that means "horrible/terrible/fearsome emperor" (in reference to a Russian Tsar: Ivan IV Vasilyevich), so can anybody say Ganishka? He's the one and only Emperor of Terror after all. I don't think I'll ever get tired of Miura's brilliant wit.

Shootin' the Breeze / E3 2006
« on: May 08, 2006, 10:52:54 PM »
Well, you guys feel free to talk about whatever you want regarding this year's E3.

For example the new Metal Gear for PSP that won't be a card game like the Ac!d series but an action game following the timeline of MGS3 with Big Boss forming Fox Hound, or Square Enix' announcements for several FXIII games on PS3: Final Fantasy XIII & Final Fantasy Versus XIII (from the team behind Kingdom Hearts 2), plus a Final Fantasy Agito XIII for cellphones. Or the fact there will also be a DQ launch title for Nintendo Wii, titled Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors, as well as the promised FF: Crystal Chronicles for NDS and Wii.

And still about the Wii, Times Magazine had a recent article about a "revolutionary" Wario Ware Wii, and confirmed that Zelda: Twilight Princess will be compatible with the Wii controller, allowing you to fish (totally unexpected...) but also to wield your sword and shoot with the bow. And they have a tennis game planned which will be played with the controller too.
