I've read the whole series, in order, and own the graphic novels too. I just hope they never make them into movies ...

He really lucked out with The 6th Sense ... and I dug The Happening (yeah >_>), but everything else is B-movie material. The Last Airbender literally pissed me off, I can't remember the last time I was that mad at a movie director/ movie in general.

Ohhh wow ... he kinda brought it on himself. I think if it were to catch up as a trend, the audience would ignore his movies.

Manga Mausoleum / Re: Berserk Armor
« on: July 20, 2010, 02:02:13 PM »
Cool beans, thanks for clearing that up Oburi and Aazealh. I've read the manga in one sitting just once last year, other times it's been in bursts or whenever I was in the mood, so I've not been able to retain every specific of the story properly, but I'll get there soon, hopefully :farnese:. There's just a lot to read and watch *shakes his head*. I'm current with the manga up till 312. I haven't used SK.net's translations before since I just hopped on board.

Do you own the Dark Horse releases in addition to keeping scans? I sincerely hope so, since it's a requirement of this site that you purchase the manga as it's released.
The scans I have were something I picked up a year or two years ago in bulk. I could later afford to own the Dark House volumes and began ordering them slowly. I currently own Volumes 1 through 31 on Dark Horse, and have pre-booked 32 + 33 online on Kinokuniya's site.

News & Not News / Re: Arizona thread
« on: July 20, 2010, 01:45:54 PM »
Oh boy, the Arizona law is pretty harsh, I agree. What's also messed up is the fact that 7-8 attorney generals have signed a petition recently backing the law. And the most important thing here is the way the people in the line of duty interpret the law, and behave or execute within it's boundaries. Like (for example) in January this year, there was a change in a certain rule within the USCIS and they got pretty strict with people traveling into the country on work visa's (H-1B/ L1/ etc). So, if you flew into JFK from Europe or Asia, and your primary place of work was in California or Texas or wherever, and you didn't have a direct flight to go there the very same day, they'd deport you. This was plain wrong, and what's worse was the officers at Newark and JFK did not explain to these blokes they were deporting that if the US government paid for their ride back home, it'd mean an instant ban of 5 years. It's a good thing this was caught on 2 days later, and there was a sort of stop to it. The Immigration Officers at the airport clearly misinterpreted the new regulation which wasn't even into effect at that time.

Manga Mausoleum / Re: Favourite Quotes
« on: July 20, 2010, 02:57:12 AM »
Just too many to add ...

"Whether it's good or bad, it's so unfortunate to wake up during a dream." -Judeau.

I re-read volume 26 :p and ...

"Then the time for talk is past." - Skull Knight.

"No point in monsters pretendin' to be warriors now ... narcissistic bastard!" - Guts.

When Grunbeld fully awakens in front of Guts in his Berserk armor, that panel with Guts' back, bent knee wild stance always gives me the chills. So epic ...

Manga Mausoleum / Re: Berserk Armor

He is referring to the Skull Knight, and "nemesis" does not take a capital letter in this case. Zodd simply calls him his sworn enemy (but actually pronounces it "tomo", which means "friend"). Please make sure you use correct translations for reference, otherwise you're going to be confused about a lot of things.
What would you recommend a proper translation to be, the Dark Horse releases? I checked the manga scans I had for that panel, it's basically the same translation. But, I'm having a hard time believing Zodd was referring to SK when he saw the suit.

To me, it looked like he was referring to the armor itself, but probably recognizing it, and reminiscing by calling to it or speaking out loud, so to speak.

It's called the Beast of Darkness. It's a personification of Guts' darker emotions. And yes, the armor does change depending on the person wearing it (like I said in the first reply to this thread, 3 posts above yours). We actually see it change right after Guts dons it for the first time, remember?

The Beast of Darkness first appears in volume 16, episode 118. Spectres take its form to torment Guts. So far there has been no hint at a specific event in Guts' past having played a role in its visual aspect.

...Although, maybe...

He inherited it from his father?! :void:
That picture looks sort of funny, if you focus on the animal, looks like a calf's head rather wolf's! I think the art's a bit confusing or weird there.

Once the armor's is worn, can Guts take it off? I'm trying to remember when the last time was that he took it off, if he did.

Vagabond / Re: Our boy @ Kinokuniya NYC + New Project...

I was there this past Sunday, took a break from putting up flyers for my pal's show tomorrow night ... my pics are Low Res cos they're off a Blackberry >_>'

They had one of the figures that's listed in the Merchandise section, price tag of $299 *phew*. Kinokuniya's definitely expensive, but they've got a lot more variety than the other local stores. Maan, I wish I could read Japanese, cos the section downstair's just amazing.

Vagabond / Re: New Viz editions
« on: July 20, 2010, 01:54:57 AM »
I was in Borders over the weekend and stopped by to see how their Vagabond collection was going. And once again, they ONLY had VizBig editions. Not a single normal-sized volume in sight.  :mushisadfrown:
I admit I haven't checked the series out, and am curious to know everyone's opinion of the VizBig editions versus the single volumes - which do you prefer or recommend? Under 'Merchandise' the VizBig volumes are linked, and I checked the Ebay link on this topic too, it's still available *phew* which means there's hope for me!

I don't mind the price, as long as it's a good series, you can count me in as an 'enthusiast' for anime/ manga I come to like.

Ah sweet! I'm gonna check out and try out some of these recipes in time ^_~

This's what I had for dinner tonight ... man, it's 4 am and I'm stahvin though ... I'll prolly go straight to work without catching any sleep at this point, anyway ...

Rice, Lentil Yellow Dal, and Spicy Pork Sausages on the side

A closer look

The rice took 15 mins, the Dal took the same 15 mins. While both of em were cooking, I took a non-stick pan, added me spices in 'ere, added the sausages and let it cook with a dash of water. Voila.

EDIT: 0719
A little fried food today heh ... this is more common in Filipino cuisine, I forgot the name of the spring rolls

And then I made some prawns in a spicy thick tomato base, to have with bread.

But I'm still hungry!!! So, I'm eating these chips >_> ... spicy banana chips *omnomnomnomnom*

Manga Mausoleum / Re: Berserk Armor

What did Zodd mean when he said something about seeing his age old Nemesis right after seeing Guts in his Berserker Armor? I thought he might've been referring to someone other than Skull Knight. Also, why does the armor take the shape of the wolf like creature? Would it change depending on the characteristics of the person wearing the suit? Silly questions from silly me :p

I suppose it's true for every other figure, but I'm fairly new to purchasing Berserk merchandise so I can't really gauge as much right now :serpico:

Shootin' the Breeze / Insomnia

Not the movie!

Uhhmm do any of you have problems sleeping??

For me, I can't sleep before 1 or 2 am, and I think it's part fault of my body clock conditioned to sleep at around then (from the time I passed 10th grade and was allowed to have the intahnetz), and part fault of either being on the laptop or in front of the TV. I wake up at around 6 like clockwork everyday and I'm a fairly heavy sleeper - you can kick me, and I won't wake up haha! But, I'm sure it's unhealthy to sleep for lesser hours than the usual 8, I presume.

What's your experience been?

I have a lot of left over/ backup or unused sleep hours that it takes me literally 5-10 seconds to go to sleep if I decide to or simply close my eyes. I did notice last month that when I'd overate, I'd fall asleep so easily so early that it got rid of my dark circles :guts:. Only down side to that was putting on 18 pounds in 6 weeks :rawr:

Tomorrow - clean the pad, give out my clothes to the laundromat for dry cleaning and wash (I need someone to show me how to use these goddarn wash machines ... I'm too scared to try it on my own and shrink everything!), catch up with movies, anime, manga.
Sunday - hit up Central Park *coughtocheckoutthebeautifulwomensunbathingcough*, practice some guitar shtuffz, catch up with anime, manga, the works, stay away from work emails.

Anyway...
Just came back from a trip to New York. I went into a Japanese store and when I got to the top of the escalator, I saw this on the wall and I had to get a picture.

Yeah, they still have this up there. Man, that store's got everything but it's also more expensive than the other comic/ manga stores around here. But, I still go there just to check out the J-babes :carcus:

Shootin' the Breeze / Meow~ (uhhmm Hi)
« on: July 16, 2010, 03:43:23 PM »
Hello there ^_^

I lurked the board for about a few seconds before realizing that I had to Register, and voila, I'm here thanks to the granted admission of the Moderators.

I guess I'm your usual bloke who digs music, anime, manga, movies, some games here and there (though not a lot to be honest, more old school games on NES, SNES, the works). I grew up listening to a lot of Brit Classic Rock, and it sort of progressed to Death/ Black/ Doom/ Viking/ Grind within metal. I goof around on the guitar from time to time, but whatever *has no talent hahaha* >_>'. When it comes to anime or manga, I'm extremely picky and am drawn to depressing series somehow *that's because you're singlesinglesingle, duh, no-brainer*. I came to the US about 3 and a half years ago, and so far so good. NYC is expensive, and I have no savings, but it's something I plan to work on *dicey ...* ... *checks credit card statement in disgust* uhhmm yeah. I work at a law firm here specializing in US Immigration, and want to study a little further than the MBA I have.

Uhhmmm what else what else ... *taps fingers* oh yeah, speaking of Berserk, this being a Berserk forum and all ... I watched the series about 5-6 years ago, and loved it. The whole 'betrayal' between Grif and Guts drew me in to the story a lot more. I then looked for the manga, and began picking them up one by one, slowly, I couldn't afford the shipping, and there'd always be theft with packages in general, like I had to order my set of volumes 9, 10, 11 again because it never got to me! I'm upto to 30 now, and will check if anything more than that is available.

I keep up with One Piece, Claymore, Drifters, Hajime No Ippo, Hunter X Hunter, and a few other series on frequent basis.

Otakon happened for me about 2 years ago for the first time, and in 2 weeks it'll be my 3rd outing there. My friends kid around by calling me pRon (which sounds close to my name) cos I'm their walking-talking guru when it comes to H stuff X'D. Oh well : p ... that's a bit about me.

I haven't read the book :schierke: ... hahaha kinda explains why I prolly liked the movie so much! The movie, as a stand alone, did a good job of portraying a post apocalyptic world with a realistic feel and premise. The acting was good, and I wasn't disappointed by it. It's slow for the general public, but bearable. How different is the story in the book? ^_^

These were pictures taken in December ... and I kinda swap my wall-scrolls around cos I didn't realize I had 15-18 of them already >_>'

I plan to hook up the TV on the wall, around where the Macross one is, if my landlady allows me to.

Short passage to the bedroom, the restroom is to the right.

Damn, I need to invest in a cabinet now *smacks forehead* and book shelves for all the manga. I'll see if I can post a more current picture in a few weeks time, prolly after my Otakon trip.

What he doesn't know ...

I check out metal forums, anime forums a few times a day. I used to get on Facebook too, but I have that on my phone anyway, so it's one less thing. Every Thursday or Friday, I check out the OP manga from here, and yeah, I'm goofing around online as we speak :rakshas:
