What They Say: The story continues...

What They Mean: Really.... ...I'm just gonna have to end it all. Goodbye, cruel world. Good

OMG that fantasy is so satisfying I literally found myself laughing out loud with such an evilness I didn't think I was capable of :ganishka: seriously thank you, I needed that moment of happiness

I'm just in complete awe at how horribly bad this is............. Its almost as if I cant believe it. Like, seriously!? How is quality this brutally bad even possible? I mean, has ANYONE ever even seen ANYTHING close to this bad before??? Am I going crazy here!?

Yo! Long time since I was here, got a lot to catch up on but man I just had to check out you guy's reactions to this embarrassing mess. Honestly I find it hilarious how a manga can have more frames than it's anime counterpart :ganishka: they could basically just have the manga pages as a slideshow and it would span a longer run time guaranteed. Its so ridiculously rushed I find myself almost laughing though it all.
Well I'm'a go read this thread from the beginning and probably cry all the way, both from a broken heart AND absurdity/sarcasm, if I know you guys right :iva:

Usually I read through all the posts in the thread before posting myself but I just read this episode and OMG its so damn satisfying!!! I really REALLY love this episode! I cant emphasize it enough! I just adore how Miura can approach this in such a seemingly lighthearted fashion yet keeping the sentimentality and gravity of the moment. Even though we kinda had an idea of what was in store Im still baffled by how masterfully Miura is constructing this.

Im sorry it might sound generic and even cheesy at this point but he literally NEVER seizes to amaze me.

Now, Im pretty sure there should be a skullkast about it so Im looking forward to that AND reading all you guys' thoughts!

Just heard about this in the latest skullkast and immediately got excited and rushed to check it out  :serpico: I love it! You're awesome, Grail! :ubik:

^Wow thanks man :casca: I'll add 'em to my ever growing read list. Cant wait to check 'em out.

Well, dont know about "on par" there, dude. Just look at Guts face expression the very first time you see it (pretty much the most important aesthetic aspect about Berserk). The difference is HUGE when compared to the new anime. I am 100% serious in saying that I would prefer this to the new anime. I was just gonna say "art style over animation ANY DAY" but then I realized its much better animated as well so yeah :ganishka:

Didnt they already show that possession bit from the opening scene???

This episode actually was, as y'all are saying, a lot more enjoyable than pretty much all previous episodes due to the pacing. Thats not saying very much though, cause its still not even decent imo. But yeah, since pretty much everything this far has been so extremely bad in comparison this one really did feel exceptionally good in that context. Thing is though, I cant really bring myself to be the slightest bit happy about it due to the very fact that they've already messed up the foundation so brutally, and Im afraid that will always be there in the back of my mind no matter how good it gets, you just cant erase a fuck up this bad.

Same goes for the animation, still bad but there're actually quite a few instances where its not quite at that ridiculous level as we've gotten before. I did like that shot of Puck pondering on top of Isidro's head, nice little moment, then of course immediately back to Isidro's awkward walking, from that upward angle it almost looked like he was rocking some dance moves... The very bottom of this episode would probably be the clones at the cave I'd say.

Nice background music when Farnese gets notified by the presence of Guts, incidentally thats also the only good thing about it though.
And yeah, the leap by Isidro was actually nice. Isidro in the cave is probably the best thing about this episode.
I always imagined the outbursts of the goat was really horrific and frightening, not to mention, y'know, kinda goat-ish? VERY underwhelming, just a detail but annoyed me nontheless.
As I said before its probably cause my eyes have gotten use to the abuse by now but the very save scene + the slaughter actually looked somewhat good.

^Yeah... Largely a composite of moments they try to be clever and cool, which sadly just ends up in various levels of lame. I tried really hard to be open minded with Joker but I had a really hard time with this version, and especially the relationship with Harley, and furthermore that it was such a big part of the film. But I was never really anal about this film to begin with so at the very least it had some eye candy kinda value here and there. Really the only time that actually made me completely forget about the bad-ish taste in the mouth and completely immersed me into the scene was that short Deadshot moment.

The only thing that felt straight up offending though (or it could've simply been the drop that spilled the cup at that point) was that random post credits scene nonsense, so incredibly unnecessary. And I was gonna say one of the reasons being that its very out of character for both parties but then I guess it could just be me that hasnt gotten used to these versions of the characters, I dont think I ever will though.

I dont know much about the anime community in general but if those youtube reviewers are anything to go by then the standards are so jawdroppingly low nowadays that it wouldnt surprise me if a few of those'll actually be bought.

Pffffff! Lame.

This thing turned sour pretty fast. I guess I'm not totally dissing it since there might be some good looking stuff from the rest of the roster.

Yeah that pacing literally renders EVERYTHING awkwardly pointless, why the fuck do we get to follow this Nina character??? Oh yes, SEX and NUDITY of course!!!

And yes, weird as it may be, they actually outdid themselves and made the otherwise occasionally quite decent 2D art even worse than the 3D, a new level of low despite all we've endured before, how 'bout that huh? Often I find myself chuckling at those 2D closeups, its almost as if they actually WANT to emphasize how bad it is when they zoom in like that :ganishka: Sorry for going on about it but I honestly think my 6yo niece could do it better.

:farnese: : "Sir, your knees!"

:mozgus: : "Yes, 1000 years ago a man was imprisoned by Gaiseric..."
"Oh, the goddess of flame! A snake penis?! Oh no, Baby soup? A cliff AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Such a mess. Its more like comedy at this point.

Some HQ screenshots and renders of the latest scans here.

MAN! They're spoiling us with visuals here! I know theres a lot of stuff that can still go wrong (and if the new anime has taught me anything its to REALLY lower my expectations) but at the very least it seems they've got the LOOK right, worst case scenario we could probably just mute the damn thing :iva:

Now i have good songs to listen while reading berserk

I did that too! Your Berserk music noob hype are kinda rubbing off on me here! :guts:

Instead of only going for the very best ones, may I suggest, getting the entirety of the various OSTs, as I did myself back then.

1997 Anime OST

Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage

Berserk: Millennium Falcon Hen Seima Senki no Shō

They're all filled with great tracks, dude.

If you really like Susumu's stuff I can suggest the rest of his music as well.

Oh and there're some tracks from the movie trilogy thats pretty good as well, this one being my favorite

...And heres another version of it, which plays during the end credits, also really good, love them guitar tunes

It's also pretty funny how those people only think it's cool, as opposed to the experiences of Guts and Casca, just because it was a failed attempted rape, in that way it's got just the right amount of ("awesome!") adult subject but with a happy ending, kids will eat that shit up right away, and then of course emphasize it to oblivion when referring to Berserk. I even saw one reviewer on youtube that said he would drop the show if they didn't include his ever so precious "rape horse" ...uugh!

Point is, Berserk already have a pretty awkward reputation about rape (thanks to who, I wonder?) and it's just so unnecessary to contribute to all that bullshit.

I for one feel very fortunate to have found this forum, cause it's the only place/people I know with a mature approach to Berserk. Its kind of a relieve coming here sometimes  :casca:

Anime Asylum / Re: 2016 Berserk TV series: Episode 5

Am I the only one who thinks the animation was worse than last episode? Thats excluding the Bakiraka battle of course, which they - despite the usual very limited movement - manage to be somewhat smart about for once and came out almost "decent" regarding style, I'd say. But man, that scene in the tent, lingering WAAYYY too long and just totally unnecessary, like Aaz already said. And that particular shot with both the 2D and CG just glaringly weird. And OMG those wheels at the end....did they REALLY have to include them at all if it was gonna be THAT poorly done??? The torture chamber was initially more or less only as much of a disappointment as the rest of the significant scenes we've gotten and didnt really stand out, but of course that Mozgus face and little speech really put an exclamation point on it.

This is pretty irritating cause I thought the last episode would be kind of indicative that it'd keep that (albeit still low) standard. On the other hand, that episode barely had any "fighting" scenes, so that might explain that.

The only other scene that looked decent to me would be the one with Casca and Nina, which of course barely had any movement (surprise surprise!)

Perhaps this is just needlessly stating the obvious at this point, but no matter how much they seemingly try to follow the manga in their own little way here and there, and the sheer fact its done a lot less significantly, everything just comes off as either pretentious or cheesy when taken out of the manga's more serious and ominous context. This is a pretty good example it kinda felt to me like he announces his presence, and just when Isidro was about to get killed to boot;

For new viewers it will look like a "ah, he is obviously trying to save that kid from episode 1 again and plays dumb, what a cool guy" moment. Well, maybe.

Im sorry Im still venting quite a lot about this show, I'll try to keep a more positive spirit from now on.

Since they have hosting, play-by-play, and analysis down pat my focus is more color commentary and off the wall musings.

Yeah you guys really got everything covered here, and you make a great team. Some of you more artsy and creative members, if you got any time to spare, should totally make some kinda cool logo featuring charming cartoony versions of all you guys or something like that, and just slap it on each of the Skullkast images (and if someone wouldnt be present you just use a sadface for that one or some fun shit like that)

I just need a soundboard with honking horns and clucking chicken noises on it. :iva:
OMG dont know if you're even half serious but PLEASE do that! :ganishka:

^Yeah I guess you're right. Tbh I wasn't even mad about the JL trailer, even though it's a weird change in tone this will surely fair better since it's Snyder. Btw I just saw that JK Simmons are playing Gordon, whether it'll be a "faithful" interpretation or not hes an awesome actor and I'm bound to like his screentime, so that a YAY! there I guess.

Why I'm such a hardass is probably due to the depression from the Berserk adaptation still lingering within and infecting pretty much everything else, feels like some weird PMS equivalent.

Mostly the ensemble stuff featuring all (loose term ofc) or some of Justice League and probably all animated works as far as I know, so not the stuff with her individually, so I can see how I might come off as an idiot there, but I just figured she can't be THAT different right?

Sorry for straying even further from the topic here people, but since I apparently made the worst post anyone can remember ;) ...So I just watched the extended verserion of BvS (since people said it was so much better) and while it felt like a somewhat more coherent movie overall my core issues with it still stands, and it's generally a directional problem. For instance I actually did like Affleck's Batman, but sadly he fell victim to a bad movie IMO and I guess the same goes for WW. But yeah I might've made it sound more extreme than it really is, cause while they don't really misrepresent her I also think she comes off as incredibly boring and her otherwise strong personality could've shown through a lot more, and while I guess that's the point with her upcoming movie I can't say I get that much of a different vibe from it than the rest of this cinematic continuity. Btw I kinda envy you cause I also expected it to be bad but it didn't make it any better. (on a somewhat related note it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts on the new Berserk adaptation)

All in all though, I'm pretty sure you're the expert here, I'll take your word for it.

Edit: btw what's you're favorite WW story? I been meaning to check out some individual runs from DC for a while, might as well ask you.
