Berserk Merchandise / Re: 1/6 Medicom Berserk RAH GUTS
« on: March 06, 2014, 04:06:03 AM »
Got mine and I LOVE IT!!!

BAHAHAH my favorite pose. :casca:

Or! Blacksmith Goodo forging the dragonslayer! OOOOO  :guts:

THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!!!  I second this!!! :ubik:

As for the OP, thanks Sankari for putting together something like this.  I'm happy to be a part of it, and if it looks good, you can count me in for a preorder.

Like Incantation, I would prefer a non-Berserker statue... but I hear what you are saying when there is no reason to stop only after 1 commission.  I'd have to flip through the manga to find a particular Guts pose, but nothing really inspirational comes to mind right now.  Maybe a statue mid-transformation?  That could be pretty cool (and bloody!)

Definitely sounding like this guy is a bad egg.  Sorry, Sankari, that you had to go through this, but at least you were on top of it and you'll be getting your money refunded by PayPal.  I'll sticky this thread accordingly after a few more days, and blacklist this guy like the others.  Keep us posted with all the updates!

I'm disappointed with this piece, personally.  The face sculpt doesn't look ANY BETTER than previous sculpts.  Totally disappointed with the face.  Ugh.

But the rest of Guts (and with the helmet) looks fantastic.

However... hm the base... I don't know.  I know it wouldn't be accurate to have the skull facing frontwards, but I gotta say it looks a bit odd the way it is now.  The base looks so random to me.

The size is also a little off putting.  I can't really tell what scale this statue is closest to.  Even that iphone pictures is tough to gauge cuz of the angle.

And finally, the "Berserker Wolf".  This is something I've been asking AOW to do for years.  I wish they would have just make a 1/6 wolf instead.  This one looks so tiny.  I hope it is at least 1/10...  But looking at the details on it, I'm not even sure if it's even that big...

Berserk Merchandise / Re: AOW - new statue coming out in Nov
« on: October 31, 2013, 02:02:39 PM »
I've been gone for a bit, but I had to comment on this one!

Yeah, it's another Guts statue, but the thing that is SUPER EXCITING about this one is this:

Coming Soon in November!
Size: H54cmxW32cmxL34cm (Non Scale)

The model is under supervision of Hakusensha now.
This time Mr. Miura has supervised the face and helmet expression himself!
We ourselves cannot wait to see the finished one.
The pictures of the uncolored model will be opened on our Facebook page soon.
This will be the most exciting item in ART OF WAR, 2013.

*Pre-order will start around the third week of November.

That right there is reason enough for me to buy it.  I've sent many emails to AOW about how we are all so disappointed with the faces on their statues, and that they should try and work with Miura on the face, just like how they got Oku's approval on the latest Gantz statue (which is ten times better than their first Gantz statue).  So, I'm really thrilled they decided to do it, and I'm happy Miura agreed to help too.  Can't wait for this.

Skylar doesn't love Walt anymore imo, I'm a romantic and all but that ship has sailed.

Oh come on man, you did ask people up front to call you a sap. My tone was in jest. I figured I could joke with you about such things without raising a stink... If Griff had made the same statements, I'd call him on it just the same, and vice versa.

That being said, I do think you are reading too much meaning into their exchange in that scene. "Love" certainly wasn't what came to mind to me in those moments. Fondness, obligation, habit maybe. I certainly wouldn't qualify anything in that scene as "love."

In an interview with Anna Gunn (Skylar):

Earlier in the episode, in an overwhelming diner conversation with Hank, Skylar chose to stand by her meth-making man and not disclose any incriminating details. Gunn says that she thinks Skylar's solidarity was out of love. "I've always felt that there was a deeply buried love that stayed behind the whole thing," the actress says. "I think that if she hadn't felt that, my feeling is that she would've turned him."

So y'all can call me a sap.  But call me a sap who's also right on the money. :griffnotevil:

Movies, TV, Books & Music / Re: Breaking Bad
« on: August 20, 2013, 02:36:36 PM »
You are a sap. Since she accepted Walt's ways, Skylar has been taking into consideration the long-term implications of having a criminal for a husband. She's trying to make things as right as they can be for the sake of their kids, not out of love for Walt. Admittedly, tucking him in a blanket was pretty powerful and unexpected in this episode, but their relationship is so beyond ruined it's cute that you'd even think there's still a chance for happiness between them. As Skylar said this ep: I can't remember the last time I was happy (it's true love!).

Being happy and still loving someone are two entirely different things.  Don't simplify the matter just because Skylar said she can't remember the last time she was happy therefore all the love is gone.  And really is there a need to mock me by saying "it's cute to even think that" or saying "it's true love!" when I didn't say that?

Just like you admitted, tucking him in the blanket was powerful.  She's trying her hardest.  And of course, it's for the sake of her kids, and for own sake as she doesn't want to go to prison either and leave her kids abandoned.  But to absolutely 100% deny that she has no love for Walt whatsoever is a very jaded way of thinking about things.  And unrealistic.  Yes their relationship is broken, beyond repair.  I'm not denying that.  And I'm not saying oh they are going to live happily ever after fairy tale ending.  But I'm saying, deep down inside, Skylar is holding onto Walt and their family.  That she still is painfully aware of Walt's walking down this dangerous road, on top of the cancer.  That she was concerned when he fell flat on his face on the bathroom floor and brought him a pillow and blanket and waited by his side to wake up.  That she still ultimately has love for him, in some way or another.  That's how I see it.  Take it for what it is, debate as you like, but don't belittle my statements.

Movies, TV, Books & Music / Re: Breaking Bad
« on: August 19, 2013, 06:01:44 PM »

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode.  The bathroom scene was one of my favorite scenes this ep.  I was happy to hear those exchange of words, and I gotta say, Skyler impressed me with her commitment to their scheme and/or their family and/or their marriage.  Call me a sap, but I think deep down somewhere beneath all the pain, anger and deceit, Skyler still loves Walt.

As for Jesse... man I really hope he survives this show.  If he dies, for any reason or in any fashion, it will be too sad.  I'm cheering for him to get his shit together.

Todd... that boy is crazy!  He's so calm and collected about everything.  His uncle scares me.  They kill like it's nothing.  And I'm sure they are going to kill a lot more characters before these next 6 eps are up!

I'm also quite happy with the pace.  The story is moving fast but the scenes within themselves are paced incredibly well.  As someone posted earlier, it's almost suffocating how silent some scenes are, drawing out every second of suspense.

Really happy with these 2 eps so far!  Can't wait!

AOW are fucking disrespectful! This new version is clearly better and i can't have mine repaint like this because it's dead angel version...

Agreed with all of you.  I tried asking for a swap as well but because they've already started on production of the dead angel version they can't make ours like the new one...  Sounds like a bunch of crap to me.

Berserk Anime / Re: Berserk Golden Age Arc III: Descent [Review]
« on: June 19, 2013, 02:15:11 AM »
... the trilogy is complete!

Well, I have yet to watch the entire film, but I thought I'd give some details of the bluray.

3 discs

- 1st disc, R15+ version with 4 audio options (jpn stereo, jpn dts, jpn dolby digital 5.1, jpn commentary dd 5.1), jpn subtitles, special features

- 2nd disc, R18+ version with ONLY ONE AUDIO OPTION... and it's sadly jpn stereo... as in NOT SURROUND SOUND.  There is NO menu, NO options to toggle any audio tracks, NO subtitle tracks, etc.  nada.  ONLY STEREO!!!

- 3rd disc, CD, with 3 tracks: BERSERK_episode2_lunar conquest suite, Blood and Guts_despair version, BERSERK_episode3_lunar eclipse suite.  All of them sound of the same as the songs from the previous movies, except for the 1st track (lunar conquest).  During the middle of the track, there is some Susumu style music going on!  Although, I don't think it's actually Susumu, it's a good imitation.

Also comes with a poster.  Haven't unravelled it yet though...

So yeah, the big bummer here is that the R18+ version only has stereo as an audio option.  This is really frustrating.  Part of the joy of these movies for me is the tremendous soundscape and surround sound.  The battles (and I can imagine the Eclipse) will be much more thrilling to watch with glorious dts.  So... in this case, I think I'm going to have to opt for the R15+ version for now.  From what I've read, it seems like it's still the most graphic anime ever, haha, so I think I'll be alright.  One day I'll get to the R18+ version.  I really hope that when Viz releases the bluray stateside they will have a full DTS or DD5.1 audio track for the R18+...  Seems silly not to.

I'm surprised you guys don't know who Chris Beveridge is.  He's much like Walter in a way, but in the overall anime dvd/bluray world.  He was the founder and caretaker of which was pretty much THE website to go to in the late 90s and 2000s for anime needs and discussions.  It had a huge active forum with intelligible users with reviews, previews, anime discussions, buy/trade/sell and so forth.  It was so large that even anime companies and licensors would use that site to touch base with their fans.  When I was at Media Blasters (Kenshin, Berserk, Voltron), every time we wanted to contact and discuss with fans and consumers, we would use animeondvd for a resource.

Chris Beveridge, though I can't comment on his gramatical prowess, has a huge say in the community.  I've been reading his reviews since I was in college.  His reviews even got me to buy and watch the entire Battle Athletes anime, which is about a bunch of girls from different planets that join this super hardcore cross planetary Olympics, hahahaah.  Anyways, I enjoyed it thoroughly actually, as well as other animes he has recommended, so I learned to respect his opinions quite a bit, as does most of the community.

In other words, I'm pretty happy that he gave such a glowing review of both films.  Although is no longer around (I believe it got bought out by, I know Chris still has a ton of followers and is still a huge voice in the anime community.  I know most of you can't stand the films, but I'm glad they are getting some positive press to the mainstream audience as of lately.

Still anxiously awaiting the third!!!  One month away!

Well, the VPXV-71221 have all the Extra: Cover by Miura, CD of Sagisu, a extra disc for the, for now the only Extra for this Limited Edition seems to be the extra price XD

I just decided to email CDJapan.  Basically, they told me NOT to order this one (the 9,100 yen one):

Someone requested CDJapan through their request service to buy this from another online shop and resell it to him, before it was readily available and officially on their site properly.

In other words, the cheaper link I posted originally is the correct one.  This one:

Movie 3 is up for pre-order on CDJapan, if anyone's interested.

Hey guys.  Anyone know the difference between the link above and this one?

Both seem to come with the first press jacket...  The first 2 movies I bought from CD Japan were 6800 yen (like the 2nd link) and came with all the extras.  Seems like VPXV-71221 also comes with the music soundtrack, ala this link:

Am I missing something?

YOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Finally, June 19th can't come soon enough!

Worry not Stardustgatzu, it makes the original run all the more special :slan:

I actually kinda agree with Stardustgatzu here.  Especially since I had John spend days painting up the first release.  Also, the $$$.  Well, I will wait to see what the revisions are...

Hey, don t want to be rude with anyone here but less than 10 people participated to this thread.

So please, participate!

Hahah, thanks Stardustgatzu =P.  And thanks for everyone's new contributions.  The first post has been updated with the new votes.

Slightly off topic, but one of the big issues with AOW has been their absolutely poor likeness when it comes to character faces.  Well, AOW just released pictures of their new Gantz statue, after their first statue had received very negative reviews, and this time around they worked under the supervision of the author, Hiroya Oku, and I kid you not... the face actually looks legit.  It's the best likeness I've seen for an AOW product, be it Gantz or Berserk.  So perhaps, they are really learning from their shortcomings and trying hard to do a better job with the faces.  So, let's keep the faith guys.  Constructive criticism and feedback can lead somewhere if we stick with it.

Thanks everyone for your contributions and votes so far!!! :ubik:

I totally love those 2 shots too.  I already mentioned them in my list earlier (but did not post the pictures).  So far, that first one seems to be popular with the folks here...

Stardustgatzu, wow, you got some graphic tastes!!!  Hahahah.  I added your requests to the list, lol.

-Childhood Griffith piling corpses to Castle

Ohhhhhh I really like this one!!!  Great suggestion!

Thanks Niero, I added your statue to the list.

The problem I see with it is that getting 50 people interested in buying, say, a Schierke statue is doable. But then they might not be inclined to pay $700 for it...

I totally agree with you.  But at least, we can try to open their eyes a bit more and see possible options and/or demand.

Okay, here's the new thread.  Please contribute!

Berserk Merchandise / [Official]: Art of War - Statue Request Thread
« on: March 02, 2013, 05:51:56 PM »
Hey all.

If any of you have been keeping up with the recent Void/Griffith diorama thread, you have probably noticed that we are all pretty damn upset about the constant remakes and inflated prices that AOW is offering.  Please look through that thread to get up to speed.

The main thing I would like to bring your attention to is this:

Quote from: Art of War
We have received some customers request ask us to re-create new scenes and new characters, that is what we always want to do. However, as we have done some sub characters in the past which we believe you already knew them, the result is that they were not sold well and brought us very big lost. Our situation is not good these years, and we may never release a product over 100 pieces again. We have to be careful about planning new things, even if we want to, we will not do if we are not sure it can be sold out safely. Therefore we really thank you for giving the space in your forum, and if you can convener 50 people to ask for the same character or the same scene, it will be a really useful voice for us to do as you wish. That is a power which can only be recalled by your customers.

So this is where we can try to do this.  Now we've had 2 "AOW wish" thread before, and even one of them was started by AOW themselves (yup, they posted on this forum years back).

AOW thread
Recent thread

Without getting the topic derailed, can we try and suggest realistic / probable suggestions that we can convince AOW to make?  I will start the list off with some ideas that I want, and will tally them up if you agree.  If you suggest another statue, I will add it to the list as well.

FYI, here are 2 more responses from AOW following the last.

Thank you very much for your letter. We really appreciate you support us for so long a time and give us these kind suggestions.
We have received your messages, maybe also from the people in your forum, we thank you for loving our products so much and try so hard to help us do better. Thanks for all of you, our precious overseas customers.
We will have a meeting about the suggestions you told us, and see what we can do for our future products:
1. Better the design of the statues, especially the faces.
2. Change the size of the statues, 1/15 is thought to be too small and it better be 1/8 or 1/6, at least 1/10.
3. Create new scenes and new characters, not repainting again and again.
4. Low down the price.
We are sorry that we  cannot tell you how much we can do for these suggestions, because we are not able to change so quickly and a company cannot just do what their customers told them to do. We believe you can understand this. We received your suggestions, and we also received a lot of voices saying that they love our new release very much… We just want you to know that we will read and carefully answer every letter from our customers, sometimes we are unhelpful and really do not know how can we satisfy our customers, but we will try our best to.
We sincerely apologize to disappoint our loyal customers, but we hope that you can support us in the past, now and in the future. Thank you very much.
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.
Thank you again for your support.
Have a nice weekend.

Thank you very much for your last letter. We have had a meeting about your suggestions, and discussed about the problems of our product. We think maybe you want to know some of our discussions, therefore we write this letter to you.

1. Regarding the design about the statues, we always try to prove our skills. Compare to the products several years ago, we have the confidence to say that they really get much better. We know that it is not good enough, but we believe we will do better and better in the future.

2. Regarding the size of the statues, we will hear our customers voice. We will try to avoid making small statues, such as 1/15 scale Void, and make bigger size next time.

4. About price, it is really a problem for our overseas customers. Some of you have to afford high shipping cost, and an unbelievable high customs. This makes the price more unacceptable for our overseas customers. We really understand your concerns.

There are many reasons caused the high price of our product, but the main reason is every time we just produce 50 to 100 pieces now. This made the cost of every piece very high, much higher than other figure making companies. And in the near future, we will not change the quantity of every release, so it is really hard for us to low down the price as our customers’ wish. We are now trying some other ways, like to have a cooperation with other overseas companies, and maybe it is a way to change the present situation. But it is a speak about the future.

We hope you can accept these answers, as we always tell our customers, we will try our best to answer their wishes, but we are a company, we have our reasons which our customers cannot imagine. Therefore when we are unhelpful, we can only hope our customers can understand us, and support us as always.

Thank you very much for your reading and for all you have done for us.

If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.

Thank you again for your support.

Have a nice weekend.

In regards to what I bolded up above (I bolded it, not AOW), I'll start a new thread.  It's unlikely we can get a general consensus of 50 people but let's just see how it goes...

Berserk Merchandise / Re: Eclipse - void & Griffith 2013
« on: March 01, 2013, 05:24:28 AM »
wow guys, lol, i didn't realize y'all would think so highly of my email to them.  i literally wrote it in a few minutes and didn't even proof read it.  i'm embarrassed now! :farnese:

well, they responded earlier in the day.  here is what they said...

Thank you very much for contacting us.
We feel sorry to hear that you do not like our new products. Sincerely apologize to make you disappointed.
However, we still hope you, as our loyal customer, can understand our company’s situation. It is not our wish to just repaint our old models and sell them to the new customers and let our old customers be angry about the new release. Of course we want to create new things! There are so many great scenes we have not did yet, and so many characters we want to make them real. Our dream is the same as yours.
But, the economic situation now did not allowed us to do many new statues for our customers. We feel sorry to tell you the truth, we have to do repaint ones, otherwise we are not able to plan for a brand new one. Also the price is higher and higher, just because the cost of everything is higher than before, since our factory is in China, we are not able to low down the cost for the statues. Sorry to be so unhelpful, and thank you for your kind understanding.
Moreover, the new statues are smaller than before because they are a 3-figures set version. And if we really do this new release into big size like 1/6 or 1/8, it will be really expensive and we do not think any of our customer can afford it.
And, about the faces of the statues. We have received many requests about to make the face better. We are really considering about this carefully, but, since our statue designer already has his style, it may take some time for the changing.
We really appraciate you giving the special space for us in your forum. It is very interesting and we can get the very true voices from our customers. We saw them happy with the arriving of the products, and feel sad to hear them laughing at our new products…Please kindly keep this space for us, thank you! Now we are going to try our best to reply Mr. andrewdsz and Mr. Genome, hope we can give them a good answer.
Thank you again for your reading and supporting us for a long period.
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.
Have a nice day.

This is my reply to that email...

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my email.  Once again, apologies for the barrage of my words, and for the words of the others that may have emailed you.  We do not mean to make you feel sad or hurt, but really we just want to express to AOW how dissatisfied we are.

In regards to repainting older ones to plan for new ones... humbly speaking, I've worked a bit with sculptors and casters... from start to finish.  In my eyes, I don't see why you would need to sell repaints in order to fundraise to commission a new piece.  What it sounds like is that you need to find a new sculptor, or new sculptors.  There is A LOT of talent out there.  I know for certain that you can find someone who can do better work for you guys.  There are even many talented sculptors on our forums.  And if you want to commission out to somebody in China, look up and you will find his amazing sculpting capability.  And if not a whole sculpture, perhaps you could commission somebody to sculpt the faces of your statues.  I am 100% positive that if your statues have better faces, that sales will improve.

Take for example your Gantz Katou statue.  I emailed AOW many months ago when I heard the news that you will be releasing Gantz statues.  I was thrilled!!!  Berserk is my favorite manga by far, but I'm also a huge fan of Gantz so I was very much looking forward to your statues.  Unfortunately, when the Katou pictures released, I emailed and stated how disappointed I was with the face of Katou.  I begged for you to reconsider, and to re-do the face before release.  However, my request and advice was not taken seriously enough.  Now, I can clearly see that Katou has not been selling well on your website.  Moreover, I've seen them on Yahoo Japan Auctions and selling for much cheaper.  Case in point, just this morning, look at what I won on YJ Auctions:

I won that auction for 10,000 yen!  Brand new, unopened.  Can you believe that your Katou statue, that retails on your site for 65,000 yen, is now worth a market value of 10,000 yen?  As much as I would like to support AOW, I could not bring myself to purchase this Katou statue with such a unpleasant face for full value.  I knew for certain that fans would agree with me so I decided to wait to buy it second hand.  And I was right.

The same rule applies to your Berserk statues.  I've gotten to the point now, that I will just wait to buy these statues second hand.  I want to support you, AOW, but your prices just don't match the quality of your products anymore.  At least, with proper likeness and proper face resemblance, there is more reason and justification to purchase your products... but if the statue is an inferior product, then there really is no incentive to buy except for the completist collectors.  But as you can see with me... I used to be a completist collector as well, but I've had enough.  We are being taken advantage of and AOW has taken our loyalty for granted.

I understand your logic about selling a smaller 3 set piece will be more affordable than selling a larger 3 set piece, but at this point, I think you would be better off concentrating on SINGLE and NEW characters at the 1/10, 1/8, or 1/6 scale.  I guarantee you, that more buyers will be interested in a single QUALITY product over a set of smaller and lesser quality products.  For example in this case, if you made a proper high quality 1/6 - 1/10 scale Void with supreme details throughout his body, cloak and most importantly his face, on top of a simple but elegant base of the red faces... I would have been GLAD to pay anywhere from 30,000 - 60,000 yen depending on the size.  It shouldn't cost AOW extra to have a sculptor make a GOOD SCULPT, with proper details, and a face with good likeness.  This should be a given for any sculptor you hire.  If your sculptor can't get faces correctly, then frankly, you should strongly consider getting someone new.

Anyhow, please take my words into consideration.  Now, with the new Berserk Trilogy Saga Project and future Berserk anime underway, it is the best time for AOW to take advantage of your Berserk license and pump out AMAZING products.  There are new Berserk fans everyday.  Even my humble statue website has received an influx of views and emails from new collectors, ever since the new Berserk movies have come out.  It is not too late for AOW to change their business model and put out statues of the quality deserving of such an amazing story.  Please consider.
