Berserk Merchandise / Re: Displaying Berserk Art & Merchandise
« on: August 19, 2014, 07:55:39 PM »
Japanese member, uraken, asked me to post pictures of his collection on his behalf.  His English isn't very good, but he would like to share with you his Berserk display.  He has some pretty cool painted kits.  I see a 1/7 Griffith Dotou no Tono kit, the Getsurou Irvine, and a finished 1/10 Griffith on Horse!  Nice!

Berserk Merchandise / Re: Guts statue - Max Factory
« on: July 06, 2014, 07:38:25 PM »
Thanks for posting this Sankari!  First impression is that the pose is really superhero-esque, but I don't mind it.  I like the fact that it's dynamic and unique to the Guts statues we've seen before.  I'm diggin the details on the base too.  The face is okay, but still better than AOW!  Any comment on the scale, Sankari?

Maybe its not even worth the effort, but I was thinking of sending AoW an email , expressing ( with all due respect) my opinion about this piece and their current practices.

Maybe if everyone did that. Their items are so limited , that if a reasonable number of people said something, they might notice that they're failing hard and change course.

We've done that before, lots of us sending them a whole barrage of emails, but it doesn't seem to have helped any.  I still encourage you to write them though, because perhaps they THINK they've improved somehow... some way...  and they need another reality check.

Special Discount:

1,000 JPY Off for Pre-orders and The First Payment Before May 31st!

HAHAHAHAH, yeah that was pretty funny.

BTW, about the likeness... they are really just being lazy.  That or they are completely incompetent without enlisting outside help.  For their Gantz line, their Katou statue had the most horrible face ever.  No likeness whatsoever.  And that statue bombed completely.  3-4 years later they still have statues in stock.  Then their next one, their Kurono statue, they enlisted the help of the manga author and the face actually looks respectable.  Doesn't seem like they'll be able to enlist Miura for his help, but my god, how hard is it for a professional sculptor to study a face and tweak it as much as possible to match?  Pathetic.

PS I have actually emailed them before that I know sculptors that could help aid them in improving the likeness of their faces... I don't quite remember their response (I'll have to look it up), but they weren't interested.

I'm still holding out to see more detailed shots, but I agree with most of the sentiments here, that this piece didn't turn out as well as we had hoped.  The face, from what it seems, only looks like a SLIGHT improvement from the previous 1/6 Guts, but it's not nearly good enough.  AOW just doesn't get it.  LIKENESS LIKENESS LIKENESS.  It shouldn't be that much to ask...

As for the pose, I like the idea of it, but the execution looks a little off from certain angles.  Again, I'll wait to see more pics...

Overall... all I have to say is... le sigh~~~

krzykoop/directdk, thanks for sharing.  It looks like it came out very well.  None of you got the exclusive?  Didn't see the Berserk wolf.   :guts:

Hahaha, yeah I got the exclusive.  Here are pictures of it:

The wolf is super tiny.  I can post a few comparison shots of it next to older AOW statues.  It looks like a puppy next to most of the 1/10 AOW statues.  And as you can see by the texture of my desk, the wolf is super small.

As for Guts, he is smaller than you guys might expect.  I would say he's 1/8 scale.  The base is pretty much half the height.  The statue looks FANTASTIC from the side.  But I'm not crazy about the front view.  The base just looks a bit too random/bulky from the front cuz you have no context of what Guts is standing on.  But 45 degrees / profile shot, it looks stellar.  Maybe one day, I'll have it customized and have him rotated so the pirate face is also showing forward (although it'll make it difficult since Guts's hand won't have anything to rest on.

The paint job is as good as all the recent Berserker statues.  The cape is awesome.  The eyes are painted a much brighter / solid red than before, so it pops.

Overall, I think the statue is good, but I'm still not entirely thrilled about the base.  Also, it's needlessly tall so it can't fit in most display cases (which is always troublesome).

Got mine and I LOVE IT!!!

BAHAHAH my favorite pose. :casca:

Or! Blacksmith Goodo forging the dragonslayer! OOOOO  :guts:

THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!!!  I second this!!! :ubik:

As for the OP, thanks Sankari for putting together something like this.  I'm happy to be a part of it, and if it looks good, you can count me in for a preorder.

Like Incantation, I would prefer a non-Berserker statue... but I hear what you are saying when there is no reason to stop only after 1 commission.  I'd have to flip through the manga to find a particular Guts pose, but nothing really inspirational comes to mind right now.  Maybe a statue mid-transformation?  That could be pretty cool (and bloody!)

Definitely sounding like this guy is a bad egg.  Sorry, Sankari, that you had to go through this, but at least you were on top of it and you'll be getting your money refunded by PayPal.  I'll sticky this thread accordingly after a few more days, and blacklist this guy like the others.  Keep us posted with all the updates!

I'm disappointed with this piece, personally.  The face sculpt doesn't look ANY BETTER than previous sculpts.  Totally disappointed with the face.  Ugh.

But the rest of Guts (and with the helmet) looks fantastic.

However... hm the base... I don't know.  I know it wouldn't be accurate to have the skull facing frontwards, but I gotta say it looks a bit odd the way it is now.  The base looks so random to me.

The size is also a little off putting.  I can't really tell what scale this statue is closest to.  Even that iphone pictures is tough to gauge cuz of the angle.

And finally, the "Berserker Wolf".  This is something I've been asking AOW to do for years.  I wish they would have just make a 1/6 wolf instead.  This one looks so tiny.  I hope it is at least 1/10...  But looking at the details on it, I'm not even sure if it's even that big...

Berserk Merchandise / Re: AOW - new statue coming out in Nov
« on: October 31, 2013, 02:02:39 PM »
I've been gone for a bit, but I had to comment on this one!

Yeah, it's another Guts statue, but the thing that is SUPER EXCITING about this one is this:

Coming Soon in November!
Size: H54cmxW32cmxL34cm (Non Scale)

The model is under supervision of Hakusensha now.
This time Mr. Miura has supervised the face and helmet expression himself!
We ourselves cannot wait to see the finished one.
The pictures of the uncolored model will be opened on our Facebook page soon.
This will be the most exciting item in ART OF WAR, 2013.

*Pre-order will start around the third week of November.

That right there is reason enough for me to buy it.  I've sent many emails to AOW about how we are all so disappointed with the faces on their statues, and that they should try and work with Miura on the face, just like how they got Oku's approval on the latest Gantz statue (which is ten times better than their first Gantz statue).  So, I'm really thrilled they decided to do it, and I'm happy Miura agreed to help too.  Can't wait for this.

Skylar doesn't love Walt anymore imo, I'm a romantic and all but that ship has sailed.

Oh come on man, you did ask people up front to call you a sap. My tone was in jest. I figured I could joke with you about such things without raising a stink... If Griff had made the same statements, I'd call him on it just the same, and vice versa.

That being said, I do think you are reading too much meaning into their exchange in that scene. "Love" certainly wasn't what came to mind to me in those moments. Fondness, obligation, habit maybe. I certainly wouldn't qualify anything in that scene as "love."

In an interview with Anna Gunn (Skylar):

Earlier in the episode, in an overwhelming diner conversation with Hank, Skylar chose to stand by her meth-making man and not disclose any incriminating details. Gunn says that she thinks Skylar's solidarity was out of love. "I've always felt that there was a deeply buried love that stayed behind the whole thing," the actress says. "I think that if she hadn't felt that, my feeling is that she would've turned him."

So y'all can call me a sap.  But call me a sap who's also right on the money. :griffnotevil:

Movies, TV, Books & Music / Re: Breaking Bad
« on: August 20, 2013, 02:36:36 PM »
You are a sap. Since she accepted Walt's ways, Skylar has been taking into consideration the long-term implications of having a criminal for a husband. She's trying to make things as right as they can be for the sake of their kids, not out of love for Walt. Admittedly, tucking him in a blanket was pretty powerful and unexpected in this episode, but their relationship is so beyond ruined it's cute that you'd even think there's still a chance for happiness between them. As Skylar said this ep: I can't remember the last time I was happy (it's true love!).

Being happy and still loving someone are two entirely different things.  Don't simplify the matter just because Skylar said she can't remember the last time she was happy therefore all the love is gone.  And really is there a need to mock me by saying "it's cute to even think that" or saying "it's true love!" when I didn't say that?

Just like you admitted, tucking him in the blanket was powerful.  She's trying her hardest.  And of course, it's for the sake of her kids, and for own sake as she doesn't want to go to prison either and leave her kids abandoned.  But to absolutely 100% deny that she has no love for Walt whatsoever is a very jaded way of thinking about things.  And unrealistic.  Yes their relationship is broken, beyond repair.  I'm not denying that.  And I'm not saying oh they are going to live happily ever after fairy tale ending.  But I'm saying, deep down inside, Skylar is holding onto Walt and their family.  That she still is painfully aware of Walt's walking down this dangerous road, on top of the cancer.  That she was concerned when he fell flat on his face on the bathroom floor and brought him a pillow and blanket and waited by his side to wake up.  That she still ultimately has love for him, in some way or another.  That's how I see it.  Take it for what it is, debate as you like, but don't belittle my statements.

Movies, TV, Books & Music / Re: Breaking Bad

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode.  The bathroom scene was one of my favorite scenes this ep.  I was happy to hear those exchange of words, and I gotta say, Skyler impressed me with her commitment to their scheme and/or their family and/or their marriage.  Call me a sap, but I think deep down somewhere beneath all the pain, anger and deceit, Skyler still loves Walt.

As for Jesse... man I really hope he survives this show.  If he dies, for any reason or in any fashion, it will be too sad.  I'm cheering for him to get his shit together.

Todd... that boy is crazy!  He's so calm and collected about everything.  His uncle scares me.  They kill like it's nothing.  And I'm sure they are going to kill a lot more characters before these next 6 eps are up!

I'm also quite happy with the pace.  The story is moving fast but the scenes within themselves are paced incredibly well.  As someone posted earlier, it's almost suffocating how silent some scenes are, drawing out every second of suspense.

Really happy with these 2 eps so far!  Can't wait!

AOW are fucking disrespectful! This new version is clearly better and i can't have mine repaint like this because it's dead angel version...

Agreed with all of you.  I tried asking for a swap as well but because they've already started on production of the dead angel version they can't make ours like the new one...  Sounds like a bunch of crap to me.

Anime Asylum / Re: Berserk Golden Age Arc III: Descent [Review]
« on: June 19, 2013, 02:15:11 AM »
... the trilogy is complete!

Well, I have yet to watch the entire film, but I thought I'd give some details of the bluray.

3 discs

- 1st disc, R15+ version with 4 audio options (jpn stereo, jpn dts, jpn dolby digital 5.1, jpn commentary dd 5.1), jpn subtitles, special features

- 2nd disc, R18+ version with ONLY ONE AUDIO OPTION... and it's sadly jpn stereo... as in NOT SURROUND SOUND.  There is NO menu, NO options to toggle any audio tracks, NO subtitle tracks, etc.  nada.  ONLY STEREO!!!

- 3rd disc, CD, with 3 tracks: BERSERK_episode2_lunar conquest suite, Blood and Guts_despair version, BERSERK_episode3_lunar eclipse suite.  All of them sound of the same as the songs from the previous movies, except for the 1st track (lunar conquest).  During the middle of the track, there is some Susumu style music going on!  Although, I don't think it's actually Susumu, it's a good imitation.

Also comes with a poster.  Haven't unravelled it yet though...

So yeah, the big bummer here is that the R18+ version only has stereo as an audio option.  This is really frustrating.  Part of the joy of these movies for me is the tremendous soundscape and surround sound.  The battles (and I can imagine the Eclipse) will be much more thrilling to watch with glorious dts.  So... in this case, I think I'm going to have to opt for the R15+ version for now.  From what I've read, it seems like it's still the most graphic anime ever, haha, so I think I'll be alright.  One day I'll get to the R18+ version.  I really hope that when Viz releases the bluray stateside they will have a full DTS or DD5.1 audio track for the R18+...  Seems silly not to.

I'm surprised you guys don't know who Chris Beveridge is.  He's much like Walter in a way, but in the overall anime dvd/bluray world.  He was the founder and caretaker of which was pretty much THE website to go to in the late 90s and 2000s for anime needs and discussions.  It had a huge active forum with intelligible users with reviews, previews, anime discussions, buy/trade/sell and so forth.  It was so large that even anime companies and licensors would use that site to touch base with their fans.  When I was at Media Blasters (Kenshin, Berserk, Voltron), every time we wanted to contact and discuss with fans and consumers, we would use animeondvd for a resource.

Chris Beveridge, though I can't comment on his gramatical prowess, has a huge say in the community.  I've been reading his reviews since I was in college.  His reviews even got me to buy and watch the entire Battle Athletes anime, which is about a bunch of girls from different planets that join this super hardcore cross planetary Olympics, hahahaah.  Anyways, I enjoyed it thoroughly actually, as well as other animes he has recommended, so I learned to respect his opinions quite a bit, as does most of the community.

In other words, I'm pretty happy that he gave such a glowing review of both films.  Although is no longer around (I believe it got bought out by, I know Chris still has a ton of followers and is still a huge voice in the anime community.  I know most of you can't stand the films, but I'm glad they are getting some positive press to the mainstream audience as of lately.

Still anxiously awaiting the third!!!  One month away!

Well, the VPXV-71221 have all the Extra: Cover by Miura, CD of Sagisu, a extra disc for the, for now the only Extra for this Limited Edition seems to be the extra price XD

I just decided to email CDJapan.  Basically, they told me NOT to order this one (the 9,100 yen one):

Someone requested CDJapan through their request service to buy this from another online shop and resell it to him, before it was readily available and officially on their site properly.

In other words, the cheaper link I posted originally is the correct one.  This one:

Movie 3 is up for pre-order on CDJapan, if anyone's interested.

Hey guys.  Anyone know the difference between the link above and this one?

Both seem to come with the first press jacket...  The first 2 movies I bought from CD Japan were 6800 yen (like the 2nd link) and came with all the extras.  Seems like VPXV-71221 also comes with the music soundtrack, ala this link:

Am I missing something?
