Anime Asylum / Re: 2016 Berserk TV series: Episode 3
« on: July 16, 2016, 06:45:03 AM »
I was really excited about episode 3 because the producer said Miura wrote it top to bottom... but I'm with most of you here on this one... I cannot believe Miura wrote this.  I just can't.  Maybe the over extended monologue on meat meat meat would work across several panels of a manga, but in anime form it definitely dragged on for too long.  And apart from that, I really felt like this ep didn't leave any moments to take a breath and absorb what was happening.  Or more so, it didn't allow the characters (namely Farnese) to absorb what was happening.  So on the story telling and pacing aspect of this episode, I was disappointed.

Also... I didn't want the sword clang to bother me (I've been able to tolerate it in eps 1 and 2)... but when it cut through the ghosts and still clanged... it pissed me off.  It makes no logical sense.  Yes, it didn't make much logical sense when it cut through Colette in ep 1, but here in ep 3, it's just undeniably ridiculous.

The lack of seeing Guts and Puck relationship build organically is also starting to weigh heavy on me.  It didn't feel right to me this time.

As for any parts that I did like about the episode... I actually liked the scene between Guts, Farnese, and Serpico.  Pretty annoyed it was covered up by the credits (if they were short on running time they should have cut part of the meat monologue), but I just really enjoyed seeing those 3 characters banter with each other.  Also, this episode I didn't think about the music at all, which is a good thing.  Maybe I got used to hearing the music cues, but I felt the music didn't overpower or distract from any scene this time around.  I also enjoyed the hounds.  I thought they looked cool (cgi wise) and were pretty terrifying.

But all in all, this was my least favorite ep so far, while ep 2 was the best.  But ep 4 from the preview looks hopeful, and I'm glad to see that Casca is dark-skinned again.  Really hope things improve~

I've seen some of their work, but I haven't really followed them much.  Here is their website and fb page.

I'm all for new companies taking on Berserk figures, so can't wait to see what they do!

Wow Ilyas.  I'm really impressed so far!  I can't wait to see future updates.  And that diorama looks quite intriguing too.  Keep us posted! :ubik:

PS Your diorama just gave me the idea of the fountain scene with Griff/Charlotte up top and Guts/Casca looking up from the bottom of the stairs.  Shoot that would be amazing!

Stumbled upon this.  A panel / shot comparison between ep 2 and the manga:

Also, in regards to the ep, I was pretty pleased with ep 2!  Farnese/Serpico/Azan were so fun to watch.  Farnese and Serpico pretty much act and sound how I imagine they would early on in the series.  I enjoyed the flashback integration too, though turned off by Casca's whitening.  Hopefully it's just a flashback stylistic choice and maybe when they show her in present time it'll be different... we'll see.  I liked most of the music cues this time around, except for the one where it was a bunch of whispers.  Of course, hearing Susumu's song was super awesome!  He's the best!  Pacing felt good, and yeah, definitely had more of a focus over the first episode.  I'm realllly pumped for ep 3 especially after hearing about Miura's involvement.  Overall, just getting pretty excited to see how this series pans out!

:schnoz: would beat both of them!

Alright guys seriously this isn't a PC rig thread. This conversation should take place in Shootin' the Breeze.

LOL, I logged in to see there were 12 replies on this post and I was like "uh oh this new statue is either really cool or absolutely horrid and overpriced" but yeah, saw it was PC talk, hahah.  Anyways, as for your original question, I'll bet it's gonna be another statue in their 1/5th line, so I'll guess 160,000 yen.

What I'm hoping for is a new character but I won't be holding me breath!  Also and whatever it is, it will still be overpriced. :puck:

I posted my thoughts in the main thread here, but I voted for "A few problems, but enjoyable."  Although I enjoyed it quite a bit, so my exact feeling would be more like "A few problems, but enjoyable!" (with an exclamation! heh).

Again, I'm in the minority here (haha), but I enjoyed the episode!  I found the art style and shading to be really cool actually, and I stated several posts back that I didn't like the way they looked in the trailer.  But seeing it in the context of the entire episode, I felt it made the show look really unique with a slight old school vibe.  As for the CG elements, in the same way, it gave the show a different a unique look, and I think it worked well in certain scenes, especially with super natural elements.

I also thought they did a great job with capturing Puck's image and personality.  The voice actor did a terrific job imo.  I laughed at all the funny Puck moments, and then got all emotional during the more somber parts.  It was cool to finally see!

The pacing felt fast, but not too fast.  I'll have to revisit this though, as the series runs on.  I think it was a good establishing episode.

Lastly, the music.  Susumu Hirasawa all day every day for me.  So naturally, I wasn't too crazy about some of the music cues.  But it didn't distract me, for which I'm glad.  I remember during the Eclipse / Casca scene in movie 3 of the trilogy... there was this intense piano solo that came in that was just too much for me.  That took me out of the moment and I wish they could have just kept it alone during that crucial scene.  Fortunately, the soundtrack in ep 1 didn't botch any scenes for me.  On the flip side, it didn't add much either, so I'm hoping this is something that the show will improve on in future eps.

You guys know they have promotional coupons for a free month, right?

Nope, haha.  It's no biggie though.  It's only $6.95 a month and first 2 weeks are free.  Anyways, it's more important for me to show my support to Berserk as much as I can.  As most streaming companies go, they will be tracking what shows premium users watch first (ie what they signed up for).  So I'm all for it.

The gameplay looks good so far!  And the screenshots only make me more excited!  To play while wearing the Armor is gonna be nuts!!!  Also, I'm sososo excited to play as  :schierke:!  I wonder if there will be a co-op mode?  Can you imagine, Guts + Schierke!  I know Hyrule Warriors has co-op...

On a side note... I wonder if we will finally get to see/play a Golden Age Bakiraka + Wyald.  That escape would be really fun to play.  I remember that one chase level in the Dreamcast game was awesome.

As more and more info surfaces for this game, I am getting insanely excited for this.  And though they haven't released a US or non-Japanese street date, we could always import the game on 9/21 too since the PS4 is region free I believe!  Play-Asia already has preorder links.

I do hope though, when they release the US or European version, they have the options for Japanese audio / English subs.  Really curious about how they will incorporate all these different cut scenes.  Can't wait for gameplay vids!!!

Super excited to see new footage!  Here are my thoughts:

- So awesome to see Casca, Mozgus and co in the promo image.  PUMPED.
- Loved hearing the narrators voice at the end.  It brought me back!
- Fav part of the trailer was Farnese and Guts on the horse.  I will be okay with the lack of nipples.  There was a lack of Griffith's pecker in the 97 anime lol.
- 9mm song is okay for me.  Sounds generic to me, but I don't really follow much JRock.  Also, the opening isn't too key for me.  I'm more interested to hear the full Susumu song as well as the actual in-anime soundtrack.  That will definitely have more of an impact of my viewing enjoyment.
- The cross hatching for the shadows are a bit overdone in my opinion.  It looks good in some scenes, but seems unnecessary in others.  Maybe it's a matter of getting used to.  As of now though, judging from this trailer, I think it would have looked better without it.  But we'll see.
- The CG animation looks okay to me.  I have never been too sensitive on this topic though.
- My biggest concern here, however, is what will happen to the Lost Children arc.  I love all the arcs in Berserk, but will sorely miss LC if it's omitted.  I hope that's not the case!!!

Welcome Bony!!! And wow, thank you so much for sharing.  I haven't seen a paint up of this kit in YEARS!  She looks adorable!  Haha.  Especially in the last picture where it's a close up of Casca's face.  Very nice and clean paint job.  Do you own the other Dotou kits as well?

"Yeah so we've got some leftover stock we need to get rid of, so here's some $0.5 glass beads we're pretending are gem stones. We can't be bothered to set them in the sockets or adapt the statue though so figure it out yourself."

My thoughts exactly.

Awesome!!  Thanks thedigitalsin.

(Unfortunately, I made the wrong decision of looking at this thread at work, LOLOL.)

They were giving away postcards at the booth, and found this picture on twitter, and the second picture on Yahoo Japan Auction:

If the anime looks as good as that second postcard, I'll be quite pleased. :guts:

I stayed up til 4:30am to watch this!!! LOLOLL. Anyways, the trailer was way too short for my liking.  I still wasn't able to get a good taste of what the anime will be like.  I have to admit, I wasn't a fan of the coloring for Farnese/Serpico/Azan, but I liked the Puck shots, and I dug the close up of Guts -> brand -> walking away shot.  The skeleton scene was pretty much the same as the Dec 2015 trailer, so I still feel like that is just an artsy segment of the anime...  Cuz it really does look a lot different than all the new material, even the Farnese shot.

Anyways, damn, I really wanted a longer PV trailer.  Well, hopefully there will be more to come sooner than July!

(Good night!)

*Oh yeah, one more thing. That's one catchy Hirasawa song. It's already stuck in my head lol.

That's really fantastic news. It's great to hear they're getting a swift, legitimate option out there to stem the flow of illegal downloads of this thing.

I totally misread what you said at first, lol.  But yes, I agree, this is great news!  Having the series simulcast outside of Japan with English (+ other languages I'm sure) is a great, convenient, and legal option for people to see the show.  I know I shouldn't get my hopes up just yet, but this is getting me even more hype!  :ubik:

Is it possible Miura has put his foot down and decided to take the reigns of this production or is this wishful thinking?

Might be wishful thinking, but I'll be crossing my fingers!!  It almost sounds too good to be true.  And in less than 24 hours we should have a new trailer too.  AHHHHH the suspense!  :???:

Thanks for the heads up, Patrick.

It's kinda surreal for me to see voice actors listed for characters such as Serpico and Farnese.  It's finally happening!!!  Let's just hope it's good... :serpico:

I don't follow enough anime anymore to know anything about the rest of the staff.  I followed the links in the ANN database and from what I can tell, none of them seem like heavy hitters.  Hopefully Berserk will be their love child and they will put their best in.

Shiro doing the soundtrack is so-so news for me.  I liked a few of the songs in the trilogy, but Susumu will always have my heart.  It was too much to expect Susumu would do the full soundtrack, so I'm at least happy he will do one insert song, which may be similar to how "Forces" was used in the 97 series.

I'm eagerly waiting for the new PV video.  I expect it to show actual footage this time, as opposed to the teaser in December, which I felt wasn't necessarily so.  And generally speaking, July is not too far off at all.  Can't believe Berserk will have a new anime so "soon"!

Finally done ...

what do you thnik guys? my painter choose color, I want some un-usual ... copper-black - look great

Hey sovel!  Congrats on the finished piece.  Always a good feeling to have something unique and one of a kind. =) It doesn't belong displayed between the two Gantz statues though!  You must give it a better home.  :casca:

His pictures are heavily processed, with heavily altered color saturation.  They are neat pictures, but I don't believe they are very accurate in terms of how it truly looks.   Cool room and setup though!
