No, I meant that everything is overstyled, like the vampire guy in the main role. The creators have tried to make everything desperetly cool looking, and so the anime ended with no real depth or heart.

Despite what you may learn on the internet, using bitter logic, not everything has to be deep. Not everything CAN be deep, nor is it meant to be. Sometimes, style is enough.

Admittedly, in Hellsing, style was NOT enough to carry it through 13 episodes, but it would have been great as a movie or a one shot. Style alone could have carried it.

Hellsing has its high points, but the in-between points really over saturate the anime... and those are just... ugh... dont get me started.

I really loved Alucard though.

werent those said to be Gaiseric's sacrifice in order to become a God Hand, or something else? those were his people i think, the ones that he cared for the most. coulda forgotten something though †:P

The most common belief is that they were sacrificed for Void's entrance into God Hand. He released them from the reign of the evil emporer, Gaiseric.

Of cource, its all speculation.

how could it be? †if the elves are like the "good idea",

But no one says that they are. The newest information (see Griffith's Universal Proportinss' speculation) just says that there are three worlds, not really a spectrum.

Also, digressing a little, seeing as the "dragonslayer" was created by Goddo, an elf,

Are you saying Godo is an elf? Im really confused...
and Skull Knight also supposedly created by (an) elf(s)--it's logical to think that the same "elven" feeling would be felt by the feelers of those feelings ;D. †But the Skull Knight's elven "aura" could have just derived from him hanging around elves for a thousand years...(and possibly shagging a few by and by)

Could be indeed. Personally though, I would never agree to be shagged by Skully. Hes all spiky.

But now that we have those explanations about how the Holy See is responsible for the slow disappearance of legendary creatures, it's not _that_ far-fetched anymore...

Very curious indeed. I hadn't thought of this old theory in a while. There are obvious cyclical occurances in the Berserk Universe. I don't see why the merging of worlds could not have happened before, 1000 years ago, as it is happening now, around the exact time (event-wise) as that theory states.

The leader of the Elves saw that Gaiseric felt guilty for his sins, so he (she?) told him about the Elves' origins and explained him that he could expiate by being "revived" by them into a Skull Knight to destroy Void, the monster he created.

Wow, expiate. I named a certain character 'Expio' in my Gaiseric fanfic... how hilarious.  8)

Couldn't that "leader" be Flora? Puck said there were witches as well, in Elfhelm...

'Just reviving an old thread. I'm not saying I believe this explanation...

Ok, now I'm starting to worry about this theory... I really... REALLY hope Miura has a different explanation. Not because I think this is weak, just because I don't want to be totally spoiled if this is THE story.

Absolutely not! From the manga experience, one can assume that he has absurdly odd sexual tastes...And while it would be sex that one could brag about to family, friends and all over the internet ("I had sex with the man that created a character named GUTS") it would most likely end in tragedy...sigh...

PS Goddamn its late...

I also have plans for Miura! I have vowed that before I die I will have breakfast and brunch with Miura, and discuss things like the stock market, and fashion, and architecture. I really do want to meet him.

And no, Im not joking.

Its basically an amalgamation of 3 or 4 different theories. I dont buy any of it, personally, outside of Void being "the" wise man involved, and the part about Gai being saved by the elves and granted a new body/armor and eventually turning into Skully as we know him. None of these things do I believe to be "concrete", but they are ideas that work, and that is what makes them so...convincing.

The whole Void being born first, then Gaiseric being turned into a "god" by creating an artificial eclipse? Utter trash.

The man who wrote this just found a way to (loosely) tie all the ends together with the information that has been provided. Even if it was Miura's original idea, he is sure to have gotten word of its spread, and certainly has changed his ideas around by now. However...a frightening piece of evidence to this whole "mysterious man who knows so much", is that assuming this happened sometime between volume 17-current day (I dont know why i choose these dates), Miura has been rather slacking off on the Gaiseric/1000 years ago information. Shying away? Or giving time/room to develop new ideas in light of a "rat"? †

Personally, I'll believe it when I see it. But for the purposes of debating, Im sticking to my good ol' theory that is basically a really fucked up version of the one Olivier gave me a loooong time ago.

Whoa! I just thought you just didnít care. †Check out the timeline (Gattís Timeline) and especially the anime section. It has some real good Guts/Guts stuff, hereís one of my favorite passages:

The timeline only has that one reference, and it's already been taken care of.

Heís called Guts half a dozen more times in that summary before heís finally called Guts again; the last time he's mentioned in closing sentence. That was always like the punchline for me. ;D

The Anime comparison was taken directly from BSOM, so blame Skully for those. I'll fix them if they make you laugh that much though.  :-X

Uhm... yeah. I'm new here. *waves*

Well, sorry for starting a new topic if its not allowed here.... its just I don't want a crappy post to be my first, if ya see what I mean.

Good, glad you're coming with me on that.

Well, I'd just like to say I've been a fan of Berserk for all of 7-8 months now. I found out about it by playing the game around my friends house. I was immediately hooked on how badass Guts (Guts to me back then.) was. Seriously badass. So, after scouring the game for any hints about his past, finding fragmented bits and pieces about the Band of the Hawk and "God Hand", I decided to turn to the internet. After about a weeks worth of ploughing through many game reviews I discovered there was an anime! †:o :o :o

So, after a long night (stayed up 'till 4 am) of gathering as much information about the Berserk anime from various sites (Namely Black Sun over Midland and another, which name escapes me.) I stumbled on Walter's Big Ass Berserk FAQ. After being a lurker on this BBS since then, I decided to join. So... yeah.

That wasn't too long... was it?

Sorry if it was. ;D

Good to have ya.

Believe it or not, that's one of the first positive FAQ responses since I started it, over a year ago  :-X

So much that you had to post?

Personally, Im just interested in other things right now.  Before, Berserk was my ONE hobby. Now, its taken a back seat to everything else.

How to revitalize the community? Well, Ive been here for 3 years, and Ive got one phrase for you: "YA SCANS". This is a very common cycle. Rise and fall of Berserk's popularity in everyones mind is governed by whether or not scans are in consistent distribution.

Shootin' the Breeze / Re: Is Miura stalling?
« on: July 21, 2002, 05:22:23 AM »
I still find the other characters boring and the storyline miura has chosen to pursue to be inane and well to be frank quite crap.

That is all. No wait. Buy the manga, then make your judgements. Yes, that is all.

Shootin' the Breeze / Re: how much manga artists earn...
« on: July 18, 2002, 01:18:23 PM »
I am just curious if they earn annually or by the amount of material they produce?

Its heavily dependant on how popular they are and how many variations of products they have.

I remember seeing a short film about Kenichi Sonoda where he said it is the worst and best job possible. He got paid next to nothing for a while, and lived on straight soba noodles.

...sorry, I was sure that most of the questions were already answered...but I usually don't take the time to look into faqs as many webhosts abuse the faq area for essential problems and questions like - who am I - or - what is a messageboard - etc... :-/
So I've learned something new today - that there are still a few funky webhosts - those who †manage to put valuable information into their faq...thanks for that! ;)

I really should change the name of the FAQ, because its more of an encyclopedia than a FAQ... But that is how it all started out.

well, if you talking about videogame soundtracks..the Crono Cross OST is great. I also liked Lodoss War and Bebop...some of the other animes like Love Hina are kind of annoying but grow on you as you watch the show ( although the opening theme is baaad, as in not good ).

Love Hina grew me a hernia.
