Berserk Merchandise / Re: Original Berserk painting on ebay
« on: May 21, 2005, 01:40:50 AM »
As long as it isn't mass produced it is legal.  It is just like Headlong making kits and selling them.

As far as the price who can really put a value on something like that.  The artist probably put alot of time into it..............and Aaz it seems like you think everything is too expensive  :P

Well it looks nice, but it's not from Miura, just from a random guy so I'm not sure that it's worth anything like $450 (the Buy it Now price), and what about it being the original? I bet there's not a whole lot of copies running around anyway. ::)

Also, is it really legal to sell Berserk related merchandise like that?

Berserk Miscellaneous / Re: Berserk voice acting

BAH to most of you, Japanese voice acting all the way. Any english voice over I have seen isn't necessarily always crap, but it always takes away part of the general Anime atmosphere and culture that was originally created.

Anime is Japanese, so let it remain the way it was created without westerners fucking with it any more than is needed. What are you all semi illiterate or something? Subtitles move too fast?

Exactly

Berserk Merchandise / Re: Puck Set II (4/15 pre order) Pics are up.

Could just be economics of scale.  (they make alot fewer of the repaint hence it costs them alot more to make each unit)

Ordered the exclusive version this morning. It's nice, but the dimensions don't fit the price IMHO... And what's up with the "you get one for 2000円, but a set of two for 5000円!" bullshit Art of War? A green Puck isn't worth 1.5 times the price of a normal one in my book. Sometimes it feels like they don't even attempt to hide the fact that they're trying to rip off the fans at any cost. Stamp "exclusive" on any item and it's a good enough excuse to double the price.

Here's a direct link to the item on AOW's site.

Berserk Merchandise / Re: Banpresto

To haul myself somewhat back onto topic, has anyone else had as awful a time as me trying to find any of the Banpresto stuff for a decent price?  By the time I find anyone with the keychains all they have left are casca-in-potato-sacks.

I'll see a set on ebay from time to time.  I have very little luck finding them in webstores.

Which is better than say the second set of Kubricks which I never see anywhere.

Hard Hero pretty much tapped that license I think.  Our license only entails reproductions of the comic art style.  Honestly we don't want to make cartoon style given how much is out there.

Seems like everyone loves it or hates it.  Enough love it though that we are making some loot  :)

Speaking of which if anyone wants to trade me Berserk merchandise for Trans, Alien or Predator Artist proofs (or anything else we make) feel free to hit me up with a PM  8)

Heheh, yeah, and you have the license to make Transformer statues that look like Pat Lee crapped them, while Hard Hero has the license to make Transformer statues that look like the cartoon...  It's a damn shame really, your Transformer statue sculpts are top-notch and technically excellent, but I just can't stand the style at all.  Is Hard Hero all the way out of business yet?  Can you guys make un-pat-lee statues now?   :D

I'm assuming there's no confilct between Banpresto and AOW's licenses, though I don't know where the line is either.

O good I don't have to see the movie now >:(

Even in a "Good" ending, Guts will die.  It's not written in stone, but because of how the story is and how Guts is, he has to die in the end.  Have any of you read Sin City (or heck seen the movie that just came out?)

In the Story Arc "That Yellow Bastard" Hartigan kills himself in the end to ensure the safety of a girl he fell in love with, because even though he won the battle (a huge battle) the man in power would still have won the war if Hartigan were still alive to defeat.

Well I work for an American toy company (www.palisadestoys.com) and based on my experience a company must acquire a license to produce a certain product and no other company may produce a product that infringes on that license.

For example.  My company has the license to produce resin statues from Alien and Predator up to a certain size.  We also have the license to distribute these statues in the U.S. and other countries.  So legally no one in say Japan could mass produce resin Alien statues in our size range  and sell them.  At the same time another company has the license to produce action figures from Aliens because it is not a part of our contract.  It gets more complicated the Alien license is litterally split up 30-something ways in Japan.

Anyway I had always assumed that Art Of War had the Berserk license for statues, action figures, mini figures and Jewelry.  While other companies had things like keychains and block figures.  The Banpresto PVC statue just made me curios.

... *refreshing memory* yup, the YA episode 252 mentioned 20 million sold books total... and that's before vol 28, unless they included pre-orders.

Is that 20 million the volumes or issues of Young Animal?

First of all hello everybody.  Longtime Lurker and Berserk collector here.  I've got an art-of-war collection that I am pretty proud of.  (Till I saw DirectDK's page that is)

Anyway I wanted to see if anyone knew exactly what Banpresto's license entails.  I know they've made a PVC statue and a few keychain sets.  The PVC is what really confuses me since it would seem that it infringes on Art of War's license.
