I think you're referring to pages that were originally painted in color. They appear at the beginning of the early episodes and volumes spanning into the Golden Age. Because they were originally color paintings they appear darker in the black and white volumes, and especially the Dark Horse versions, which also use other paintings by Miura as episode/section dividers.

Yea that's it. That's too bad the Dark Horse ones don't have them in color; are there any besides the Japanese print that include them?

Thanks for another great podcast.

I'm glad you guys pointed out how detailed the wide shots of some of the kingdoms are, I never looked that closely but it is amazing to see some of those sections used in the manga later, and how much consistency Miura provides with his storytelling. I always love the episode with the introduction to Zodd and Guts walking through the dark hallway leading up to it. It still gives me chills seeing how haunting that is.

I did have one question, and I think you guys may have mentioned it before in one of the earlier podcasts but I can't seem to find it; the volumes before this have a few pages (usually at the beginning of a episode) that are very dark. It's mostly in volumes 1-3. Is this just my Dark Horse ones and they way they printed them, or is there a reason for this? Thank you!

It was fun reading Gigantomakhia and I hope it comes out over here in the states. I thought it was pretty creative and was interesting to read something besides Berserk from Miura.

Thank you for another entertaining podcast. That's another reason why I was disappointed  with the new anime movies; they glossed over Guts' childhood so quickly, and I think it's still a very important part of his character and personality. They gave us some five minute blurry recap, and I still don't really get how anyone who hasn't seen or read Berserk could figure out what it all meant.

I really like the two page spread of Guts looking up at the starry sky while is is laying down. It's one of the simpler two page spreads but its such a peaceful and beautiful scene. At the time when the three episode flashback came out more recently with Guts and Chich I thought it was a little strange of Miura going back to around this time, but re reading it and getting a broader sense of Guts' past and how it may still play into the present was a welcome addition.

Great podcast! I also love the page of the Count's dead body sprawled out in the moonlight, something about the picture is very haunting.

I am loving the re-reads of each graphic novel, even though I recently read through Berserk from beginning to present, I feel like I've missed a lot of these details that you guys brought up. I know you probably wont do it for every volume, but I hope you can continue to do more past three. Also, cute baby pic Walter! Happy (late) new year everyone.

Wow that looks really cool. I can't wait to see what Miura has in store for this.

Its hard to say, I could see it going both ways. I would think if Miura does do some cameos like Jill, this would be the perfect time like others said, as it could show how they are dealing with the new world.

Wow, pretty amazing stuff. I'm always impressed at how much skill people have creating cosplay costume pieces.

I know this has been said again before, but... is this in the norm for him? I know he does a lot of prep work especially with the big events coming up, I just didn't know if maybe something happened to his health, personal life. Not that any of us would know that, but just comparing to the past.  :judo:

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but what exactly happened? I haven't purchased any AOW statues but did they not refund people for a shoddy paint job or something? Just curious. :)

Wow those are all so cool. I'm really impressed with the eclipse one; I don't think I've ever seen someone do that before. It's nice to see something different too; usually when I look up a lot of anime conventions most people just cosplay in Naruto or Bleach. :/

What do you think will be the driving force or motivation for the group to leave Elfhelm and continue the journey to seek out Griffith?

Very interesting. I've never played pachinko machines before but this Berserk ones looks super over the top (in an awesome way).  :carcus:

Thats real, I believe that came out around the time the first film was in theaters in Japan, sponsoring a fast food franchise. It makes me ill just looking at the thing so I have to just laugh at it. Actually now that I think about it, that poster sums up the entire trilogy for me.

I don't remember hearing this in the movie podcast, but did they ever mention why Erica is living all alone if Godot isn't around? Just seems kind of weird to me..

Well, the Golden Age portion of the saga is officially over now. It received mixed reviews. We don't know the final sales figures, so we don't know if it was a financial success or failure. Plotting its future is murky.

But what do you guys expect in the coming months? How soon do you think it'd be feasible for them to formally announce and show off Lost Children (presuming that's still where the project is headed)? What would you like to see changed in the coming section of the project?

I hate to say this but they should just have given the project to someone else. I'm not trying to be a stickler but the films don't do the manga justice. Since they still have the license to use Berserk and if they actually make more, a few points:

1. Stop cutting important scenes in favor of adding brand new ones. Not all of them were bad, but do we really need to see Guts and Casca dancing more instead of a bonfire of dreams sequence?

2. The horrible flash backs. I don't know what they were thinking, but they look awful when they go in slow motion and I believe anyone watching it that doesn't know Berserk will have no clue whats going on (especially the first one with Guts' childhood).

3. Please don't include a musical score where there doesn't need to be any. Silence can also work just as well in many scenes and be effective.

4. While the CGI wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be and did improve as the films went on, they were still noticable and took me out of the movie. Please use better animation techniques. Other then that the backgrounds and certain scenes did look impressive.

Hmm... thats all I got right now. I'm not really sure how to feel; when I first heard of the movies coming out when we were all waiting for them I was so excited, but I don't feel that way anymore.

I don't think I've seen anyone say yet thats watched the film mention Godot. I know we assumed he probably wouldn't be in it judging from the info that we did know about the movie theater release in Japan, but I was just curious if someone who has seen it could elaborate on how they tell the story of Guts training and getting the Dragon slayer and armor with out him.

While I'm ecstatic that we are getting  Megaman in a Smash Brothers game as I have been a fan for a long time, The Wii fitness trainer is an interesting choice. I don't mind it though; I like unique and creative characters so I'm curious to see what they do with her.

I've read quite a bit and it's difficult to find something on the same level as Berserk. I would say Lone Wolf and Cub is a good read and pretty decent.

Video Games / Re: XBox One

The only thing that I find kind of frustrating if I were to purchase Xboxone is the restrictions on used games like Aaz mentioned. I admit I'm ignorant about how much it may hurt the video game industry, but the way I see it, if my friend spent his hard earned money on a sixty dollar video game thats already been bought and paid for, I should be able to borrow it from him and play it. Maybe the fee wont be as bad as people think but it just doesn't feel right to me. Just like anything else, whether its a manga or an anime movie, if my friends let borrow something and I enjoy it I do not mind purchasing it myself to help the industry for what I love.

I feel like maybe I'm in the minorty on this but.... I think I am done with this generation consoles. I don't normally say stuff like this because I have always enjoyed a lot of the more recent video games to come out, but to be honest it seems like most companies only care about social media now and I just want a video game system.... to play video games. I don't care if its compatable with Facebook, if it can run Blue-ray, if Hulu Plus is going to be available...

It might be because I grew up with the older consoles with NES and up, but I just miss the days where you can just plug in a system and start playing a video game. No ads, no bullshi*t. I'm sure there will be people to tell me to just stick with the classics then, and that is exactly what I'm going to do.

Does anyone else feel this way? Maybe most prefer only playing FPS shooters, but I've had my fill. There are still hundreds of games from past systems I have yet to play, and I think this is where I draw the line.

Also: "It was a rollercoaster of bloodshed gore." Could this have been the guy who writes the blurbs on the back of the Dark Horse volumes?!

Lol that's what I was thinking.

Speculation Nation / Re: Dragon Slayer breaking

I was actually going to make a topic about this but it seems people are already discussing it (not it breaking, but when it will be repaired again). I know the last time Guts goes back to Godot's place is in volume 22, but is Rickert capable of maintaining the DS at this point? If not maybe it's been even longer since it's been checked. I do wonder if that will occur on Elfhelm.
