Thanks for another great podcast! I've been looking forward to this re-read and I wasn't disappointed. So much happens in this volume and neither of you spared any detail.

I really appreciate the explanation of the last page. I had always wondered what Miura was trying to say and I knew it had a deeper meaning yet I just could not put it together.
The connection between Guts putting ointment on his scar to him being emotionally healed by Casca's love is such an important detail. Both events seem unrelated but are woven together so naturally by Miura. He really is skilled at creating a narrative where almost everything has a purpose.

Besides Guts healing after the Eclipse in volume 13, and after meeting Griffith in 4, is this one of the only instances we see Guts sleeping without his sword? I thought it was interesting that twice Casca has taken the place of it.

Gorgeous work! I love the last one of Guts and Puck.

Shootin' the Breeze / Re: Your most hated words
« on: June 13, 2014, 09:30:58 PM »
Here is a good article written from a male perspective that explains rape culture. It's not an easy concept to accept, but it is important to understand. Although the word has been popping up more often on the internet, it originated within feminist circles in the 1970's.

I'm glad that you've brought this up, by the way - we're going to have a new thread discussing this issue very soon.  :carcus:

I'm looking forward to the upcoming discussions.  :void:

If "Fandom" stands for the type of fan that calculated the exact date George Lucas should have died to save Star Wars from being "ruined", then I hate it with every fiber of my being. Same thing for those who call Miura "lazy". Seriously?

Well, fandom is simply a shortened version of "fan domain" and it's usage has been recoded back as far as 1903. It just describes the network of fans of a particular subject. Not really something to get too upset about. There are bad fans and good fans of everything.

That's great to know. Thank you Walter!  :serpico:

Thank you so much for the guide! I'm sad though that I can't download the issues on my mac. But at least there is an online option.
Do you know if there is a difference in the image quality between the book-in-the-box program and web viewer?
Has anyone tried viewing the issues online using Chrome?

Thanks again for the great episode guys and congrats to Griff on the wedding!

Once again all of your commentary really helps me appreciate the new episodes, there is so much I missed or didn't consider while reading on my own.

I enjoyed you all making fun of Griffith "Las Vegas" aesthetics. I wonder if/when Guts arrives in Falconia he'll make a smart-ass comment about Griffith's design choices  :guts:

After TNG I'd take a break from Star Trek, there isn't much left that is as enjoyable in my opinion. However DS9 is good from the few episodes I have watched.

Creation Station / Re: [WiP] Colored a page from an episode
« on: May 28, 2014, 11:14:02 PM »
Welcome to the forum Che! May I ask what tools/program you use?

Coloring is hard work for sure. So don't feel bad for taking a few hours on a page. I actually recommend starting out by coloring just a few panels. That way you don't overwhelm yourself and can focus on refining your technique.

I'll echo with what Grail said about the saturation; try to vary the intensity of the colors.  Here is a really good color theory tutorial that I highly recommend checking out.

What helps me before I begin coloring is just to think about the atmosphere, mood, and lighting of the scene. Where are the light sources? What time of day does the scene take place? Questions like this and considering the context can really help you out in choosing a color palette. If you ever have trouble starting, finding photographic references that have a similar color palette to what you want can help. Never be afraid to use a reference.

I look forward to seeing more from you!

I can't decide between the God Hand and SK!

Thanks for the advice Walter, Doc, and Delta Phi!  Now I am even more excited to start playing.

My brother owns this game on the ps3 and I've been really wanting to play it after reading the praise here. I've played plenty of fantasy role playing games before (Star Trail, Skyrim, Baldur's Gate, Diablo to name a few) so I'm not inexperienced when it comes to them. Dark Souls seems different in comparison though, which is really appealing.
Is there anything I should know before starting? Or should I go in blind?

honestly, i thinck that the pacing of the series is really slow right now, but thats just my opinion

It just seems slow because of the release schedule.
i just want to see guts and co. finally arrive in Elfhelm haha

Don't we all? But I love the focus on Falconia.

The shot of Sonia in her Holy See (I assume?) robes just adorable! Her regalia suggests to me that she has an important role within the order now.

How long is Griffith going to be able to keep up his emotionless demeanor before the citizens start becoming suspect? Assuming that his behavior will raise any red flags at all.

Anime Asylum / Re: Berserk Golden Age Arc III: Descent [Review]
« on: May 20, 2014, 02:05:50 AM »
The movie made the scene more similar to a hentai in my opinion. It was excrutiating to watch, for the wrong reasons. It actually makes me nauseous thinking about how she was made to reciprocate the kiss and how the voice acting was handled. I'd rather be made to re-read the manga part 10 times than watch the movie's adaptation once.

Because they're fucking idiots..? And who are these people, again?
The same people who think that Berserk has turned into a "loli filled shonen manga" and only care about the violence and sex, AKA: fucking idiots.

Shootin' the Breeze / Re: Any tips for meeting anime fans?
« on: May 17, 2014, 12:12:25 AM »
Attending another university will definitely allow you to find more people with similar interests. I understand that it can be very hard! Especially if you live in an area where there isn't much of a community.
I'll agree with looking at comic or card shops. They often have gaming areas where you can meet others, or at least find out where you could.( make sure the rules posted on the wall don't say "Don't bully others! This means even girls!" :schierke: )

The best place to meet anime fans is attending anime conventions, although it is not always possible due to cost, location, logistics..etc. But cons often have their own forums where local fans plan meet ups. If you have facebook, try finding a anime/ convention group that is within your area I live in Oregon but am a member of a Sakuracon group, which is an convention in Washington. However I still meet a lot of people from Oregon since the con is a big event in the Pacific Northwest.
So if you find a similar group, odds are you'll find fans near you that might otherwise not be interested in clubs or comic shops.

As a fellow woman into anime and other nerdy stuff: if you ever feel uncomfortable at a meet up it's best to look elsewhere. Environments that see you as a novelty or a "fake geek" are not worth your time. I'm stating the obvious, but it's an important point none the less.

It might be difficult initially, but once you find the right people you'll eventually get involved in their various social circles and meet more and more fellow fans!

Slan had some short n' curlies in the manga didn't she? Though you're right, in the movie it's a lot more... dense? :slan:

Honestly, I'm more disheartened about the Slan figma because they're almost certainly going to be lightening her skin to match the movie design. I really don't get that whole idea.
I don't recall anything down there.  :carcus:
The Casca figma was lightened as well. I'll never understand these design choices. There is always the option of repainting Slan figure. If her sculpt looks nice, it might be worth the effort in my opinion.

The Void figma on the other hand is going to be end up needing some implants.

Any news yet of when these will be released or go on pre-order?

That said, even though these are based off the movies I really hope Slan doesn't have pubic hair.

Perhaps it's time for to open a Chica Umino subforum to match the subforum Miura has created for her in his heart. ♥
I am in full support of this.  :carcus:
Really psyched about that whole illustration, though. And with only one week until the next episode!  :beast:

Is it really just one week away? The excitement is killing me! What kind of breathetaking art will Miura surprise us with next? Maybe some images from inside the palace?

Thanks for the translation and clarification Aaz.
I can't stop looking back at Miura's illustration and imagining what we'll be seeing in upcoming episodes. I'm stating the obvious here, but he really has a knack for depicting the fantastical. He is very versatile with his drawing style as well.

AHH THAT IS SO CUTE!! Might this be Miura giving us a secret preview of life in Elfhelm?  :troll:
Thanks for posting Walter!

My Japanese is so rusty I can't translate the bottom drawing that well. But it is showing more than one side of Miura. The top is him as a Go player , the bottom is him as a mangaka.  He is saying "いつのまにかネタになって光栄" which google translates as "Honored to become a story all too soon". Totally makes sense!

I've seen you and your girlfriends stuff posted around the cosplay community for years and I just love them! You both fit into your characters so well! I'm interested in seeing more pictures if you have the chance to post them here or post a link.
Eclipse and Masquerade Guts are not cosplays I have seen done before. I love any Berserk cosplay, but it's nice to see someone wear something different besides Guts in his armor, since there are so many outfits/characters to choose from.
What did you make the horn out of?

Such sad news, the world lost a great mind and artist. Giger has always been a huge inspiration to me and countless others.  He may be gone, but his influence and legacy will live on forever.

Not an actor, but androgynous model Andrej Pejić is how I imagine Griffith to look if he was real.

Speculation Nation / Re: How do you think Berserk will end?

It's gonna end with the reveal that it was a dream the entire time like in Super Mario Bros.2  :schnoz:

In all seriousness, I don't really like thinking about how stories will end. I want to be surprised!
