He isn't in a scary movie or doesn't look like he's a serious character. So NOT Sam Neil~like!
Well, his character is a taciturn, grumpy, mountain man type guy in this movie. Here's an interview with him and his co-star.

That's so funny that you mentioned that movie JMP, Gobs and I just saw it this weekend too!

To me, the movie had a kind of Wes Anderson feel about it. I imagine that fans of Moonrise Kingdom would like Hunt for the Wilderpeople. By the way, did you recognize Sam Neill? :ganishka:
Yeah, definitely had a Wes Anderson-ish vibe going on there. I didn't recognize Neill! I actually didn't even register that was him till you mentioned it!

Shootin' the Breeze / Re: What'd you do over the weekend?

A couple weekends ago I got to go camping with some friends. I got to try kayaking for the first time. One of my friends asked me if I wanted to go out in a two-person kayak that the state park had for rent at a boat dock. She said it was easy. I agreed, assuming that since she had said it was easy she had done it before. This thought made me feel more confident about trying it, thinking she had some experience. Well, later when we were back at camp getting ready to go rent the boat she said she had never been on a kayak before! :ganishka: I guess she had just heard it was easy. She had brought her little dog, a shih tzu, with her and she wanted to take him on the kayak with us, too. Well, at that point I was pretty sure we were going to end up in the lake, but though I was a bit nervous, I was still game. That's what life vests are for, right? Even the dog had one on, a little yellow number featuring Scooby Doo. We got down to the boat dock and the rangers who were there gave us some tips about getting onto the kayak, rowing, and all that good stuff. We managed to get onto it, including the dog, who was able to sit on a flat spot that was between us. We started rowing and it wasn't nearly as hard as I had always thought it would be. The dog was very chill. I think he enjoyed it and when we would stop rowing he would become displeased and start whining, as if to say I didn't give you permission to stop! Row on, human slaves! My friend even tried fishing from the kayak. I have no interest in fishing, so I was content to just take in the beautiful scenery of being out on the lake, which was surrounded by lots of tall pine trees. Our only misfortune was that my friend dropped her fishing pole into the lake and it was lost, but thankfully, the rest of us stayed in the kayak. It turned out to be my favorite part of the trip!

Just watched Hunt for the Wilderpeople the other day. I really enjoyed it. It has lots of quirky humor and charm. It doesn't shy away from some sad and difficult circumstances either, but it approaches them in what feels like a very natural and matter-of-fact way. The main characters are really likeable and human. Lots of funny moments!

There's something so defeatist about it. My coworker says it at least twice a day about any topic that you can think of.
Huh, I also worked with a person who would say it, not as often as that, though. She was a pretty positive person, but sometimes shit just happened and it was her way of saying "Well, this sucks, let's accept it's suckage, quit whining about it and move forward."  :ganishka: I guess it depends on the person who's using this phrase's attitude and the context it's used in. I never particularly liked the saying and sometimes it seems like people just use it to be dismissive, like "It sucks, but I don't want to deal with it."

I like both of the ones you posted. :serpico: I think the way the one of Griffith has a watercolor look is pretty neat!

Very cool! I love his style! :guts:

I want my choice to be natural and not just limited on a liking towards a breed so I'm generally open towards every breed. When the time comes, i will decide through my gut feeling  :daiba:
Good luck. I hope you find the perfect pet for you one of these days, whether cat, dog, or whatever. :guts:

Berserk Anime / Re: 2017 Berserk TV Series (Season 2)

His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
There's vomit on his armor already, Gambino's spaghetti
He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop blows,
But he keeps on forgetting what he planned down,
The whole crowd goes so loud
He grits his teeth, but the legs won't move
He's choking how, everybody's joking now
The mercs run out, time's up, over, blaow!

:ganishka: Oh my gosh! This made me laugh so hard! Picturing Guts doing rapper poses.

Here's one for you:
Guts! - He doesn't need his name up in lights
He just wants to swing his sword whether it's day or it's night
He feels so unlike everybody else, alone
In spite of the fact that some people still think that they know him
But fuck em, he knows the merc code
It's about the salary
It's all about reality and making some coin
Surviving the battle making sure his flag stays up
That means not putting the sword down till the job is done! Let's go!

Concerning the anime, I can't believe there is going to be a season 2 of this mess. I won't be watching unless I hear good things, which sadly, I'm not expecting.

I am thinking of getting a Dog soon, so it was a nice experience to go through this thread.
What kind of dog are you thinking of getting? I never had a dog growing up, just cats, and I didn't think I was a dog person until I got my first one and realized how much I like them. I had a German Shepherd/Lab mix named Susie who passed away, and now my current dog, Huckleberry, who is a Border Collie/Corgi mix. Susie was really sweet and mellow for the most part. She just needed to be walked a couple times a day and she was happy. Huckleberry is another story. He has so much energy. Luckily I have a decent sized back yard, so I can take him out there for frisbee. He loves that and can run some of his excess energy off that way.

Sophie the cat. She is a year old and her cute looks are deceiving :beast:

Any other black cat lovers?
She is cute! I love cats in general. My best friend has a black cat and he is a major trouble maker. :ganishka:

Even though it doesn't sound like some of the info is reliable, which is a shame, I still deem this little book well worth the purchase. I love the illustration for the cover as well as the other color pics in the front of the book. I was happy to see that one was a favorite of mine of Schierke reading her spell book! :guts: The pages showing Miura's workspace were of course really interesting and I like the pages towards the back with the character sketches, too.

I think the emaciated creature might be a dog also. In the first pics of it chained to the coffin it looks horse-like, but in the pic on the bottom left when the flying figures are attacking and it shows the creature from behind it looks like a dog to me. It looks like it has a dog's tail and it's stance is more dog-like, like it's protecting the coffin. I wonder if the animal is supposed to represent Guts. It looks like it might either have a lame left front leg or be missing part of it. Anyway, VERY interesting stuff! :ubik:

I'm loving Danan more and more. Her character design is great and I like her personality a lot. So I guess the housework helper thing wasn't just a ruse for her to observe Guts and co., which was what I thought at first. From what she tells Puck she regularly goes to the witch village and helps out with cooking and cleaning as well as cleaning up around her own palace. I don't think the witch outfit she was wearing was just a disguise she used for that particular occasion either. I think she probably wears that whenever she's in the witch village in order to blend in better and be more nondiscript. Kuka or the other kids didn't seem surprised to see her there like that.

I'm impressed with how Danan is being portrayed as a leader. She seems to be a caring steward of her own domain as well as working to foster good relations with the witches. She seems secure in her power, with no need to be pretentious. I like how she just wants them to call her Danan and not her formal title. I also like how she is considerate of Guts' anxiousness and doesn't make him wait to get the help he's been seeking for so long. I felt really bad for Guts when Danan said he couldn't go with them for the ritual, but I loved how Schierke stepped up and reassured him that it would be ok.

Another thing I liked about Danan was how she talks with Puck and Magnifico, pointing out the problems with their plans, which I thought was pretty funny. Instead of just punishing them she also reasons with them. It's like how a good leader should act. Even though Magnifico's intentions were evil they never posed a real threat to Danan or Elfhelm and he gets treated like a naughty kid right along with Puck. I think a little manual labor might be just the thing for him! :magni:

I like the little mushroom dudes and I thought it was funny when Casca picked one up and it seemed freaked out.

This episode was really great! :ubik: Quite a cliff-hanger with what is going to happen in Casca's mind. Pretty epic for sure! I'm very much looking forward to seeing what's to come.

I've actually done a lot of colors and art since my last post in this thread, but I keep forgetting to post them...  :farnese:
I'd love to see them. :casca:

I like your portrait of Luka! :ubik: What you've done on the Danan pic looks great, too! While I like both, I prefer the pink one. I particularly like the hair.

My hopes for the future of Guts and Casca's relationship. :slan:

Thanks for the podcast! Y'all had me laughing out loud a few times. I didn't make it all the way through the anime. I think I stopped around episode 5. I just wasn't enjoying it. That last episode I watched I got through it and felt absolutely nothing and that's not right for Berserk! :rickert: I think Aazealh summed it up well with the word "soulless". To see a work I think so much of get such a disappointing treatment was really lame and when I think of what a good Berserk anime could be like I feel bummed that it hasn't happened. It could be so awesome. But, like others have expressed, we have the manga and that's more than enough for me.
