I guess I have to watch "I Saw The Devil" then, thanks for the recommendations guys!

Have either of you guys checked out any of the other films in The Vengeance Trilogy?

Yeah I also watched Sympathy for Mr.Vengeance, and as Skeleton said it's a fantastic one too. But I haven't seen Sympathy for Lady Vengeance yet.

I watched Oldboy (2003) yesterday, an awesome movie with an unpredictable ending and a really great soundtrack. I was truly surprised, I recommend it to anyone who might be interested (the original version).

Speculation Nation / Re: How do you think Berserk will end?
« on: February 28, 2016, 07:39:18 PM »
That bad? It did seem like Griffith creating a virtual heaven on earth was heading towards another fake eclipse at least. Falconia isn't exactly the kingdom in the sky Griffith was after, and people are going to start asking questions when he doesn't age, but a more immediate problem is keeping the his army of Apostles thirst for blood under control.

Sort of, I understand Delta Phi's reaction. Without getting into the specifics of your ending, a lot of your ideas are either baseless or can't happen. I kinda picture what you're saying but it doesn't match with what we actually know about it. And for the rest I also agree with Delta Phi.

But I like your imagination! :)

Beyond the fact it's illegal, Berserk is being drawn in black and white, not in color. That fact impacts all of the artwork from its inception, meaning that it's how it's meant to be read.

I'm not especially for (or against) coloring and I understand your perspective, but I always thought mangas were in black and white because of the release schedule being tight, don't you think that if Miura could color it he would do it? (just a mere question, in black and white it suits me fine)

Maybe it's just the light but I think the skin tone looks better/more natural, nice job!

Probably a huge project but have you ever thought of doing a Patreon to color the full manga?  I bet you'd get a ton of donors.

It could be great but from a legal point of view I don't think that's possible.

Awesome, it really looks like an island out of a fairy tale, and the pink tone is great! (And quite ironic when you know what awaits them behind this hill ! :ganishka:)

« on: February 24, 2016, 08:49:03 AM »
Waow ! :isidro: This is really impressive, I love it.

I know that Zodd is way out of scale and he actually has different look to his claws. Hope you still enjoy it!

It didn't bother me at all, on the contrary I thought you made it on purpuse, these giant dimensions makes the scene really epic and really show us how Guts' struggle is intense.
Plus, the fact that we can see Griffith so high, observing the scene from the top of this colossal Zodd makes him appear unreachable, which illustrate really well the manga. That's a 10/10 for me.

Oh and it was nice to see the process, thanks for sharing your work.

Sure, but as I recall, they weren't called that way in Japanese.

Oh right sorry, I didn't check, I understand then.

Nope, the singular is "Gigas", the pluras "Gigantes", if I recall correctly.

Looks like I was wrong, thanks RaffoBaffo. :)

67
Giganto?! Wtf...

In Greek mythology "Gigantomachia" is the war between the Giants and the Olympian Gods, these giants were also called "gigantes", although I don't speak a word of Greek maybe "giganto" could be the singular/plural of "gigantes" ?
In this case it would make sense.

I don't know why but the links to the pictures don't work well T_T

Indeed I can't see them, maybe try to upload them on a different website (like imgur for example).

Anime Asylum / Re: Is that new Berserk anime doing more bad than good?
« on: February 09, 2016, 07:33:57 PM »
My immediate feeling after watching the first movie was that if I had seen this as my introduction to Berserk, I'd never have proceeded to the larger series. It felt cheap, amateur, awkward, and merely skated on the surface levels of character depth that the manga offers.

When I finished the 97 anime I really wanted to know what follows but I haven't looked any further into it, then time passed and I moved on... But then I discovered that in the meantime movies were released, so having loved the anime I watched them and that's when I finally decided to read Berserk.
So yeah I have to admit it's probably because I watched the anime first that I had a minimum of tools to appreciate it, but I just wanted to tell that even if it wasn't a good adaptation, those movies served as a reminder to show that this series exists (at least for me) which I think is a pretty good thing. (And that's also why I don't hate the movies)

Anime Asylum / Re: New Berserk Anime for 2016
« on: February 04, 2016, 09:03:32 AM »
Again, not sure if this deserves it's own topic but!

Berserk will be a TV Anime according to this tweet.
http://berserk-anime.com/news/index00060000.html

It's also confirmed for Summer 2016 (July).

Thanks for sharing !

Yay for it not being movie(s)?  :serpico:

A TV anime will probably skip less content than a movie but it doesn't mean it will be good, we can't be sure before seeing it (I know I'm not very optimistic).

Vagabond / Re: New Readers (No Spoilers)
« on: January 30, 2016, 09:00:45 PM »
I like how he portrays Musashi not as the perfect sword god that he's been memorialized as, but a talented, troubled youth who regularly takes one step forward and two steps back along the path of enlightenment. The more you dig in, the more there is to see.

That's true, it's indeed another element that I appreciate.

That being said, I maintain that the series has been in a rut for several years now as Inoue very clearly is struggling with how to wrap things up (he's been trying to for years), and it just doesn't quite have the spark it once did for me. Still, that certainly doesn't diminish what's great about it.

Damn that's sad, I'll see soon enough I guess.

If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend looking into the background of the real Musashi's life and at the least, familiarizing yourself with the novel that it's (at least nominally!) based on. I think that context isn't spoiler territory, but rather it adds meaning to the choices Inoue made in how he portrays the characters in his version of the story -- Musashi and Kojiro in particular are dramatically different from the novel.

Yes it's planned, thanks for the advice! And I saw that Musashi wrote a book himself, is it worth reading ? The opinions seem favorable.

And thanks for your answer Walter. :)

Vagabond / Re: New Readers (No Spoilers)
« on: January 30, 2016, 06:49:29 PM »
I started Vagabond a few weeks ago, I'm currently reading Volume 15. In my mind Berserk was the best and nothing could reach that level of art and depth, but now I believe that I really prefer Vagabond.
I'm not certain why. Perhaps it's because the story is written in a more philosophical and poetic way. Or perhaps it's only temporary and only because of the wonderment of a new discovery, I had the same feeling when I began to read Berserk. So I don't really know.
But I can tell that each page is really pleasing to the eye (especially those colored) and I love the metaphors made to represent the state of mind of the various protagonists like the insects trapped in the spider web, the mountains, or the sea...

So I wonder, what do you like the most about Vagabond ?
