Video Games / Re: Games to look forward to!
« on: September 18, 2016, 06:14:31 PM »
Yeah, I mean I skipped RE6 so I'm basically "over" the series. The only reason this one interests me is because it's different. So I understand the business logic behind continuing the franchise, but I hope it doesn't negatively affect this game.

I also skipped RE6.  The PSVR has been on my radar specifically for this game.  I'm saddened to hear that what you saw seemed less than impressive.   Imagined myself in the basement late at night getting scared with some kind of immersion I haven't experienced.  Hope there is indeed an overhaul by Feb.

Watched a video recently about what makes a resident evil game and I must say I tend to agree with the person who made it.  While RE5 was fun for couch co op, outside of the characters, it was an action game and didn't resonate any old feeling the series had.  Go all the way back to ps1 and we have had the classics, 4 (to me is still the king), 5, outbreak, and the rail shooters on the wii. I know there are several more, but this new game, assuming the lore is in place, is all I know of to make something resident evil.  A lot of us started with the original, (old bastards) but capcom has been nothing but evolving with the series.  If the execution is great, maybe we'll have a few games with this new look.

Now if my favorite horror series would get some dedicated and gifted individuals behind it.  My old silent hill has been a mess.   Strangely, I can't think of anything coming up I'm greatly anticipating.

Almost done with this project.  Took a joust cab and gutted it.  Found a cheap dell monitor to replace the old one, which had a nice game of black jack burned in.  Had an older rca receiver and Klipsch bookshelf speaker to throw inside.  Wired a computer fan into a old phone cord on top.  The big fun of the entire thing is the modded xbox with 18k games from Pong to Halo 2 or so.  Every system I care or don't care about is easily navigated within and the controller arrived today.  Works as expected.  Little wood work to get it mounted securely and the xbox needs mounted inside so I can make a push button on the exterior and never open that coin door.  Now I need to make some custom decals with some of my favorite art from all of my favorite games.

And Salem, definitely check out a demo if you can. On the lower difficulty settings you can just stand around without taking damage. Out of the 15 enemies surrounding you, one or two will attack every 15 seconds or so. The only real difficult part of Musou games is making sure your NPCs don't die, or completing objectives within certain time limits. When/if the combat is difficult, its because your enemy has gargantuan amounts of health and can kill you in 3 or 4 hits (looking at you Lu Bu).

Thanks.  That actually sounds alright if getting the combat down to a fine precision is ultimately where the challange comes from.  Watching the videos, it's hard to gauge anything like that.

Again with the down voting.  This is as bad as high school.

Berserk Anime / Re: 2016 Berserk TV series: Episode 12

This last episode was a prime example of these flaws. The music that started during Griffith's incarnation, it simply was horseshit.

That scene was actually starting to excite me and then the reversal with that terrible shred on the guitar. Wtf, why would you?... Absolute crap letdown mental state would stay with me past it's conclusion.

The series thus far feels like the people in charge know the source material, yet secretly hate it.

The animation seemed to improve a little by the last episode.  Hopefully the rage and outcry from many of the fans will help structure season 2 better.  If all else fails and the second season has already been done, let's hope they make some changes in the meantime.    I swear I heard this was going to be 24 episodes originally, so that is where my line of thought is coming from.

I don't see the pacing, which at times really does itself no service, changing enough to make things smooth.  I do find it a little shoddy to make so many repetitive sound effects.  I'm no one to specialize in such matters, but don't see how hard it would be to smash steel on different material to get a sweet sound for the dragon slayer.  As much as I love Susumu, replaying one song is not the key.  All these remixes from the golden age movies are pretty bad.  Could be part of the budget?  Dunno.

All in all season 1 felt pretty meh.  Following the manga more closely around episode 4 and on made everything a little better.  Much improvement needed, so let's hope for the best.

Oh man!  That shot of the armor makes me smile.

From what I understand most Dynasty Warriors games act similar to this with the A.I. I've only personally played the Zelda Warriors game and it seems like this is also a thing, not quite as bad though.

As for the game itself, it looks like it's shaping up to be pretty fun, I don't have any high expectations for it other then to just mess around and use my favorite characters to defeat large groups of enemies. I'm curious about the boss fights with some of the apostles, the screen shots look decent.

Thanks, Tama.

I also don't have any expectations, but was curious as it looks far too simple.  A new Berserk game will be picked up and played by me regardless.  I may need to adjust what I perceive about it a little.  I would assume a little bit of a challenge, but if the ai is lax, I'll just crank the difficulty and hope the bosses are a pain.

Why, in all of these videos, do the enemies appear to just stand around?  For anyone familiar with these games, is this a thing?  I want to feel powerful as Guts, but not untouchable.

Oh, I curse all the time. I've got a real fucking problem -- particularly with my 3 year old son.

Bahahahaha.  Oh, that struggle is real.  2 year old and 1 simultaneously really pushes the human condition.   :ganishka:

I really enjoyed doom and had the feeling of repetitive the last half of the game.  Didn't bother me.  That game is just plain metal.   :guts:

Griffith, I can't speak of deus ex or Alien, but the others were pretty great.  Now, MGS5 was not my cup of tea.  I tried to enjoy it, but some of the gameplay mechanics involved, plus the very open end (or lack there of) made me question the hype quite a bit.  I'm not the biggest MGS fan, but I felt the whole experience lacking.  The others were fantastic, even that old ass game AC2. :)

If you beat me to Alien, let me know your thoughts.  That whole survival genre is lost upon my group of friends.

Since I've never played any incarnation this team has put together and we get to play as all these characters, does this series have you pick a side or do you just randomly access different characters as the narrative moves along?

I have a question for the diablo 3 fans.  I love diablo 1 and 2 soooooo much.  I played 3 twice but don't think I'll ever play it again.  My main issue is the game is far too easy.  I literally died one time my second playthrough on hard and even if you do die, the penalty feels like you're in god mode from the get go.  You pop back up right where you left off.  I literally button mashed the entire second game and there is just no sense of urgency like many games and the first 2.  Am I missing something?

I've become bored with Final Fantasy XIII, so I'm venturing on to the Resident Evil series (which I've never played), starting with the first Resident Evil. The PSN only has the Greatest Hits version of the game (which I've heard has a terrible soundtrack), so I purchased a physical copy of the Director's Cut. I just hope it runs well on my PS3.

I highly recommend the remastered version.  I'm not 100% sure it's on ps3, but it is essentially the same game, just prettier in every way.  Also just a touch up of the remake on gamecube.  Sense any recycling?  Resident Evil 2 is getting a facelift as well fairly soon.   Resident evil 4 is again, for the ? Time being re released, but now on the ps4.  As if the gamecube, to ps2, to wii, to pc wasn't enough.  Those old polygons honestly give me motion sickness anymore.   :azan:

I myself am watching my wife play darksiders 2: remastered.  This entire generation is just ripe with unoriginal rehashes.  In a bit of of a lull, gaming wise all I have left is the blood and wine dlc on the witcher 3.  Not sure where to go.  Maybe some classics.  Got this modded xbox with 18k games and it truly is a joy.  Getting the arcade controls and then finish boxing this old cab up and custom decals are all that's left.

Berserk Miscellaneous / Re: What kind of Berserk apparel do you own?
« on: September 05, 2016, 11:42:46 AM »
If you're talking from a clothing aspect, then I have 2 unofficial shirts.  One is from 2010 and has held up very well, Berserk in japanese on the front and Guts rage face on the entire side.  The other is the Skull/Beherit image that I got recently.  Had a few others but wear took over as I sport them too often.

From another standpoint I have a skull knight wallet that I bought from amazon which has been very good in terms of durability and my tattoo sleeve.  I would love a hat sometime but the selection I find for the most part is always unofficial and sub par to say the least.

Berserk Miscellaneous / Re: How Did You Find Out About Berserk?
« on: August 30, 2016, 04:28:07 PM »
Years ago I played Guts rage for dreamcast.  Loved it, but knew nothing of the anime or manga.

Years later in 2007 my friend convinced a very reluctant version of myself to watch this anime called Berserk.  Cue insane lust for more.  Connected the dots of this show and that old dreamcast game, found out about the manga and read it all quickly.

Slowly started collecting the books and even had a myspace fan page way back when, but little did I know there was already a very well organized page right here.

You should catch up right now.  :)

(not you guys, mostly Reddit)

Reddit  :mozgus: is the cesspool of the internet.  I tried that community, but I found myself being pulled into the theatrical lunacy as well.  Serious posts are randomly not, the same as the opposite.  Truly cannot comprehend ever going there again.  If there was a form of venereal disease acquired by being online, that site is it.

On here you never have to worry about that crap.  On here that doesn't exist and in terms of perspective Heaven would be where you're reading right this moment and hell would be Reddit.  The middle ground would be somewhere on facebook in the communities, but even there trouble awaits.

To top that off, we are mere moments away from looking into the sunset here.  We made it, we met the queen and if Casca is cured in a manner of episodes, what is left but the end being in sight, or certainly the last arc or two?  Saying nothing is happening means casuals of berserk manga, not fans in any reasonable regard are waiting for the next time Guts cuts someone down to get any notable moment in their brains to say wow, Berserk is so badass.

Phew, what a storm.

Sado, one thing you need to keep in mind is not taking this personal.  I completely understand where you're coming from, but the people on this site have a deep passion for this series.  If you come in and throw a theory that is infact baseless on the foundation you read it from, expect this result.

It's easy to quickly draw fire and all that.  Keep in mind that what Walter and Az are stating isn't against you personally in the extent you think.  Bullshit, even my own when I first discovered skullknight, will be eradicated.

If you can keep an open mind then sooner or later you'll sit back and enjoy the forums even if you don't agree with every point made.

If the gameplay is as boring and monotonous as other musou games, the fact that there is no diversity in casca's and judeau's attacks (just slashing and throwing knifes) will drain the enjoyment of the gameplay completely.
I'll still play it though, cause I am a sucker for Berserk, and I'll enjoy it, akin to playing with a Guts action figure.

I second this opinion.  Nothing the series has put out intrigued me in the least, but slap Berserk skin on with some cutscenes and here we go!

Playing the Ni-Oh beta. Spent three hours getting destroyed before I killed the first boss. But it was worth it.  :guts: (For anyone interested, the beta will be there until September 6th. If you complete it, you get exclusive items when the final version releases)

I also enjoyed this, though I'm a sucker for the souls series much like the knock offs from the original diablo.  Hopefully the fun lasts as long as most of the beta.

Team ninjas last great game to me was Ninja Gaiden and I can confidently dub this Ninja Souls.  One thing besides the setting and stance options available that I really found unique was the item discovery dialogue.  Didn't have any idea what was said but the fact looting a dead corpse brought about hearing a short story behind the body felt like a very cool idea.

I just finished Doom and enjoyed the experience much more than 3, even though I found the repetive waves of enemies tiresome by the last few acts.

Every time that Guts and Slan pops up, I swear, I've just blown some money on something else Berserk related...Someday it will be mine.

What was the blondies name again... whatever. The way they portray her character just makes me hate her, but in the manga it wasnt like that.

Nina?  I didn't like her in the manga, but I think that was the point as she is a selfish inconsiderate woman.

Decided to snatch up this Arcade from back in my day (mainly sega at that).  Came with new decals I need to work on yet.  In a couple days I plan pick up a joust cabinet that no longer works and make some off the wall and completely unnecessary mame machine.

Also received a few figma figures in the mail.

Movies, TV, Books & Music / Re: Movies to dread

First of all, I throughly enjoyed reading this roller coaster ride of a response. Secondly, I think it comes down to disagreement over the quality of the films from these respective studios. First, I didn't agree Marvel only produces mediocrity, just that it's their baseline, which is actually an incredible achievement in this film landscape. Their mediocrity is better than most people's best efforts in the superhero genre, and they've managed to almost single-handedly standardize it and give it consistently and credibility. It doesn't seem amazing anymore when someone makes a decent superhero movie, and now we come to expect as much or even more, so in that way Marvel is a victim of their own successful formula, and how they deal with that will be their challenge going forward.

On the other hand, speaking of victims of Marvel's success, the DC cinematic universe can't even reach the level of mediocre; and we'll just have to agree to disagree that Synder's Murderman and Batfleck are the pinnacle of quality and faithful adaptation (maybe as setup for an Injustice arc). They take big, ambitious swings to try and hit home runs, but as the reviews and box office shows, the results aren't there. They're not even settling for the triples, doubles and singles Marvel sometimes puts out seemingly by design to cap it off with a grand slam here and there. Instead DC keeps striking out trying to hit a grand slam with nobody on base (I hope this extended baseball analogy wasn't completely wasted on everyone here =). WB/DC had a stronger footing back when they weren't trying to be Marvel, but just letting Christpher Nolan produce top quality, sometimes transcendent Batman movies. It's all been downhill since then and they can't even claim those past achivements as part of their canon. Right now Wonder Woman is the best thing they've got, and their best hope for reversing their fortunes. It's just one good movie away, but the current braintrust hasn't shown they can execute one yet.

Fox is somewhere in-between, which used to be no-man's land. Total failures with Fantastic Four, hit and miss with their X-movies; both bolstered by and beholden to their history and relative success (did anyone care about Apocalypse?). But now there's hope, Deadpool shows they at least found a team that was able to go outside the usual parameters of those films to do something to truly compete with and even outshine the Marvel machine. Was it one-time luck or can they reproduce their success? That's the only thing that really sets Marvel apart, and the reason why getting rid of Feige is probably the last thing they'll do, whatever it means for their other properties and mediums.

As a long time comic fan (obsessed man child kind of fan) I agree with you 100% on everything stated.  I honestly can't grasp someone not seeing the logic in what you say.

Almost made a new new thread, but found it!  Rise from your grave!

Moved recently and have been quite busy getting this basement just right.  Started with building a shelf in the wall, then the media shelf, wiring for 7.2 surround, this starlight panel, and finally the riser.
