I would be a little surprised to see Anna, Adon, and Wyald make the cut, but Tapasa would be the one I'd love to play as...which I also don't see. The others wouldn't surprise me too much.  How about a Garuda riding Daiba?   :carcus:

Berserk Anime / Re: 2016 Berserk TV series: Episode 1

If you're supporting something then you're doing your part TBH. If you can't get behind "Berserk 2016" I understand. A lot of people can't. But I do feel like we as fans are obligated to dump some money into the series in one way or another right now. We're at a point in time where we actually have options for investing into the series. However you want to do that should help at least a little.

Good way to express all that.  I am behind this message 100%.  Being the first episode and readily prepared for it, I'm very understanding if someone has rage about the anime.  Supporting Berserk is something important to me, so I feel obligated to find the pros and point out the cons without making someone feel isolated from the entire thing....Even though there are plenty of flaws.   :ganishka:

I've tried to get my best friend to read the manga and have shown him the adaptions.  This came out and I was trying to say how they didn't do a good job and he said he loved it... :mozgus:  I wanted to tell him how ignorant he is, lol, but I feel that's a bit trivial if word of mouth gets more into the REAL story.

Apparently by getting pissed about Colette's death. Beats me. It was almost shounen like last minute power-up. Im surprised his hair didnt change to yellow.

I was enjoying "the brand" part of the episode quite a lot, but then the tree showed up... :daiba:

That power up thing, coming from someone who's only exposure to anime has been berserk, is a little....silly to me.   :griffnotevil:

From a financial standpoint only, aren't we somewhat obligated to grit our teeth and support this?  Don't shoot me down, just here me out a little.  Berserk is a niche property, and from the little I know (yes, little) about marketing, if we continue to shoot down every crappy release, won't we be more likely to get more, yet spaced out crap?

I'm honestly wondering should one of these adaptations, bad as they may be, if one were to find financial success, could this in turn grant us someone's attention who wants to invest in a bigger, better translation of the story?

Oh he'll go down for sure, but I don't expect that to be a serious, multi-episode fight. Guts will be mangling apostles right and left and Volkov will grab onto his arm with his mouth, just like old times. Then Guts will turn his head towards him and light the cannon. As Volkov shrieks and tries to understand what happened, he'll see the Dragon Slayer falling down on his miserable face. Oh yeah. :ubik:

If that happens even remotely close to what you said, the goosebumps I got from reading your thoughts will be painfully full.

I am not surprised that even SK tore into BvS  :ganishka:. I though consider the film to be the best US comic film after the related 2012 DKR toon film (Jay Oliva worked on both).

From one comic fan to another that baffles and frightens me so much.   :magni:  Reading Marvel and DC for over 20 years, I found BvS stunningly awful and I walked out of Xmen Apocalypse.

I'm planning to have one room especially dedicated to berserk with posters, mangashelves and what not, one room entirely for gaming and another one for warhammer 40k miniatures and novels/books.

I also want to learn japanese. I've started with Hiragana and so far so good, but we shall see how it goes. I tend to drop such projects in a month or two whenever a major obstacle appears so I'll have to force myself this time.

Dropping weight from 120 kg to 90 wouldn't be bad either.

That sounds like a great series of goals.  I've always thought about getting some sort of display case for statues and rare comics.

Big project I want I decided to put on hold till I'm bald and wrinkled.  Wanted three arcade machines for this rec room, but the total for them in great condition put my very high end klipsch 7.2 reference premier to shame. (which is next on my list, wife permitting :???: :guts:)  Eventually want to take the spare room and make it into a vintage looking arcade from my youth with glowing carpet, neon signs, the whole works.

Resurrecting this thread for a moment.

In the process of moving and stressed.  We are buying and selling simultaneously and let me tell you for those who haven't done it, the process can suck.

Moving to a new home which is two and half times the size of our current (beyond my expectations in life) and the buyer of our home needs to find additional papers for his bank.  We were suppose to close thursday on our new home.  Eesh.  Full on Christian Bale American Psycho kind of feeling at the moment.

With two children under 3, 3 beasts, and 90% of my belongings in the garage or boxes, I really will be happy when this all gets done.

My plans once this gets done are three simple time consuming projects.

1. Theater riser for my couch, with outlets and accent lighting.

2. Built in wall entertainment shelf for pc, cable, games, etc.

3.  Fiber optic supsended ceiling for starlight effect, with my projector in the middle and trim/crown moulding on the top to conceal any gap.

If you're interested I know one of the guys on here has made a wonderful hobby into making statues at a very reasonable price.  Walter might have to get you his username as it has escaped me at the moment.

Just something to think about if you ever get an itch for a statue.

AMD's new 480 can hang with the big boys for $200. I think it'd be feasible to make a rig around that for under $1000 without a monitor.

I guess our definition of high end is different.  High end to me is all components included.  Processor, GPU, Ram, PSU, Monitor, MB, software, etc.  I dumped 1200 bucks into mine a few years ago and don't consider it near high end.

136
You could easily build two high end gaming pcs for that price. So yeah.... pass.

High end for a grand?  Not high end.  Maybe without a gpu.

I think the most difficult thing about this new series is being a die hard fan and also knowing a few people who are ignorant to manga.  2 friends of mine found the first episode and professed how much they enjoyed it.  I found myself holding back criticism, but told them they needed to check the manga out as the anime is definitely not doing it justice.

While I thoroughly enjoyed the violins and the brand segment of the episode (minus the god damned tree!)  the rest was rather ugh, nooooooo! -vader

I hear yuh on the dlc.  I rushed that sucker in about a month and just played online co op for bit after.  Souls music never really had me totally engaged, besides the hub areas I suppose.  This latest had the most memorable overall.

How is that Doom OST?  I platinumed ds3 and was watching my wife finish uncharted 4.  Wanted to get that next, but we're moving on up and all my stuff is almost packed now.   :puck:

I've always had a fix of variety, even have every Berserk ost I know of in my ipod playlist.  Right now I'm on a Breaking Benjamin, NiN, and old school gaming kick as far as music goes.  Castlevania bloodlines has been prevalent on my morning jog.

Aazealh, what do you think Miuras opinion of this anime is?  Do you think he enjoys it for what it is or do you feel he probably rejects it, but keeps it to himself?

This is my first post and my opinion is that the first episode had some good and bad moments.

Griff,
I'm a little confused how you got all the prequel nonsense off my statement.  The emperor wasn't in a new hope and the only point I was trying to establish was Snoke will be a big deal, eventually.

My opinion, seems I struck a cord with calling one of my favorite series a little hokey, is TFU is on par with ROTS and most of ROTJ.  Does it surpass episode 4 and 5?  Lol

How did I bring the originals down a notch?  I usually avoid Sk.net simply because of the neverending negative opinions of anything non berserk related.  Couldn't help myself this time.

Added spoiler tags. -Griff

I really believe the mids will tie in and I do agree that they should leave it alone.  That being said I wouldn't be surprised if we went that route.  Snoke has some major wounds that appear to be from a lightsaber.  I know some are saying he isn't interesting, but neither was Palpatine at first.  I always got the creeps in jedi from that guy!  Another big reason I think Snoke is who he is was VERY similar music plays when snoke is introduced that is played when Palpatine explains to Anakin about his master....

This whole sequel thought comes from the fact that movies lately seem to hinge on the sequel.  Almost like we're watching some 3 episode series on cable.  There is so much that could really be a downer when it gets explained, or not.  It's as if we're watching part of a movie, knowing this is the first act, insert cliffhanger.

As to where he's been, I believe Palpatine had been after certain systems in the outer rim, which he claimed his power came from.  Highly conceivable that he is in some hidden cluster for "insert random reason".  Ultimately I hope whatever he is and why he's doing what he's doing is very memorable.  Would be a little strange for what appears to be a very ancient gollum to just be some leftover bad guy from any previous film, which still begs the question, where was he this whole time?

Way too many people who grew up with fond memories of certain movies look to find every flaw to justify their memory.  Good lord, I love Star Wars, but they're all a little hokey.   :griffnotevil:

I enjoyed the movie and had no doubt I'd stumble upon people complaining, overanalyzing or just being debbie downers.  Some of that has merit, no doubt, but the sequel to this film really will tell us IF the force awakens is truly a good start.  So many questions that answers to could be meh or fantastic.

Rey is obviously Lukes daughter and her random force awakening is in part due to her training as a child before her cousin killed everyone and Luke was like screw it I'm out.  Also wouldn't be out of the ballpark to say Luke could influence Rey telepathically like Luke and sis communicating.

Also, why haven't any of you brought up a certain "wise" new character possibly being a certain cloaked asshats original trainer?  Seems fairly likely.

Speculating, but let me reach a bit and quote.

"Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life... He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying."

And say that this "snoke" will end up being Lukes grandfather, who created life in Anakins mother and was ultimately not killed by Sid.  Yep, that's what I'm going with.

Could be soooooo wrong, but I'll hold onto this until it's fleshed out.  Good luck to whoever writes the next one.  So much hinges upon that.

Griffith,

100% agree with your analysis of every ranking.  Bravo.   As a huge X-men fan I think this film has the potential to piss me off into a rage of butthurt fanboy.  Apocalypse looks ridiculous.  His voice sounds too basic as well.  Also, he appears to be controlling people with his mind.....Are we making up powers like superman 4: the quest for peace?

All of the films appear to have that straight to dvd look.  All of them barely get it half right.  Funny how much I enjoy marvels films, when the ones I thought I'd love are being downplayed by fox and sony.  I'm very excited for someone to change the formula, as Apocalypse is in my top 5 villains in fiction.

I'm thinking Deadpool will nail it.  I'm thinking civil war will be convoluted, but good (not so in AOU) and I'm very impartial to this and B v S.  Suicide Squad will be a disaster.  The end.

There sure is a lot of drama on the net this week....

I enjoyed the podcast!

Do you three think we're really 3 or so episodes away from meeting the king?  Definitely possible, I'm just still in awe we're here.

I also would be surprised if the king of the elves didn't have a kind of quirky personality that might throw the crew off a tad.

Hey! :) Yea like I said, most of the sequels are pretty bad, they don't even use stop motion effects in the later ones, but the first few are decent. I've never personally thought the Child's Play series was that creepy but the idea of puppets or marionettes intrigue me. Also if you are looking for something really unsettling or that will creep you out, I would suggest David Lynch's work. I really love Twin Peaks, and some of his films. The Lost Highway is very interesting, with my favorite scary scene from any movie: "The party scene".

Love Lynch and his buddy Trent. :)  Been meaning to get a copy of lost highway.  That scene in MD with that creepy homeless guy gives me the creeps.

Santos was the champ I was referring to.  It's like the UFC wanted nothing to do with her, even though she was a monster pre bust for roids. I personally think any athlete at that level is using.  If she can physically drop to 135, I'd love to see her toss Rousey around.

One thing I'd love to see disappear is Rouseys loud mother.  I find them as obnoxious as the unlikable members of the Lannister family.

Omg, that doom Photoshop.   :ganishka:
