Character Cove / Re: Farnese Analysis: The Wild Card

Phew, what a storm.

Sado, one thing you need to keep in mind is not taking this personal.  I completely understand where you're coming from, but the people on this site have a deep passion for this series.  If you come in and throw a theory that is infact baseless on the foundation you read it from, expect this result.

It's easy to quickly draw fire and all that.  Keep in mind that what Walter and Az are stating isn't against you personally in the extent you think.  Bullshit, even my own when I first discovered skullknight, will be eradicated.

If you can keep an open mind then sooner or later you'll sit back and enjoy the forums even if you don't agree with every point made.

Berserk Miscellaneous / Re: Berserk Musou (PS3, PS4, PC)

If the gameplay is as boring and monotonous as other musou games, the fact that there is no diversity in casca's and judeau's attacks (just slashing and throwing knifes) will drain the enjoyment of the gameplay completely.
I'll still play it though, cause I am a sucker for Berserk, and I'll enjoy it, akin to playing with a Guts action figure.

I second this opinion.  Nothing the series has put out intrigued me in the least, but slap Berserk skin on with some cutscenes and here we go!

Playing the Ni-Oh beta. Spent three hours getting destroyed before I killed the first boss. But it was worth it.  :guts: (For anyone interested, the beta will be there until September 6th. If you complete it, you get exclusive items when the final version releases)

I also enjoyed this, though I'm a sucker for the souls series much like the knock offs from the original diablo.  Hopefully the fun lasts as long as most of the beta.

Team ninjas last great game to me was Ninja Gaiden and I can confidently dub this Ninja Souls.  One thing besides the setting and stance options available that I really found unique was the item discovery dialogue.  Didn't have any idea what was said but the fact looting a dead corpse brought about hearing a short story behind the body felt like a very cool idea.

I just finished Doom and enjoyed the experience much more than 3, even though I found the repetive waves of enemies tiresome by the last few acts.

Every time that Guts and Slan pops up, I swear, I've just blown some money on something else Berserk related...Someday it will be mine.

What was the blondies name again... whatever. The way they portray her character just makes me hate her, but in the manga it wasnt like that.

Nina?  I didn't like her in the manga, but I think that was the point as she is a selfish inconsiderate woman.

Decided to snatch up this Arcade from back in my day (mainly sega at that).  Came with new decals I need to work on yet.  In a couple days I plan pick up a joust cabinet that no longer works and make some off the wall and completely unnecessary mame machine.

Also received a few figma figures in the mail.

First of all, I throughly enjoyed reading this roller coaster ride of a response. Secondly, I think it comes down to disagreement over the quality of the films from these respective studios. First, I didn't agree Marvel only produces mediocrity, just that it's their baseline, which is actually an incredible achievement in this film landscape. Their mediocrity is better than most people's best efforts in the superhero genre, and they've managed to almost single-handedly standardize it and give it consistently and credibility. It doesn't seem amazing anymore when someone makes a decent superhero movie, and now we come to expect as much or even more, so in that way Marvel is a victim of their own successful formula, and how they deal with that will be their challenge going forward.

On the other hand, speaking of victims of Marvel's success, the DC cinematic universe can't even reach the level of mediocre; and we'll just have to agree to disagree that Synder's Murderman and Batfleck are the pinnacle of quality and faithful adaptation (maybe as setup for an Injustice arc). They take big, ambitious swings to try and hit home runs, but as the reviews and box office shows, the results aren't there. They're not even settling for the triples, doubles and singles Marvel sometimes puts out seemingly by design to cap it off with a grand slam here and there. Instead DC keeps striking out trying to hit a grand slam with nobody on base (I hope this extended baseball analogy wasn't completely wasted on everyone here =). WB/DC had a stronger footing back when they weren't trying to be Marvel, but just letting Christpher Nolan produce top quality, sometimes transcendent Batman movies. It's all been downhill since then and they can't even claim those past achivements as part of their canon. Right now Wonder Woman is the best thing they've got, and their best hope for reversing their fortunes. It's just one good movie away, but the current braintrust hasn't shown they can execute one yet.

Fox is somewhere in-between, which used to be no-man's land. Total failures with Fantastic Four, hit and miss with their X-movies; both bolstered by and beholden to their history and relative success (did anyone care about Apocalypse?). But now there's hope, Deadpool shows they at least found a team that was able to go outside the usual parameters of those films to do something to truly compete with and even outshine the Marvel machine. Was it one-time luck or can they reproduce their success? That's the only thing that really sets Marvel apart, and the reason why getting rid of Feige is probably the last thing they'll do, whatever it means for their other properties and mediums.

As a long time comic fan (obsessed man child kind of fan) I agree with you 100% on everything stated.  I honestly can't grasp someone not seeing the logic in what you say.

Thanks!  My bro use to work at the nearest theater for years and he grabbed that for me.

Big silent hill fan and I really hope a good game comes our way soon.

Almost made a new new thread, but found it!  Rise from your grave!

Moved recently and have been quite busy getting this basement just right.  Started with building a shelf in the wall, then the media shelf, wiring for 7.2 surround, this starlight panel, and finally the riser.

Anime Asylum / Re: New Berserk Anime for 2016
« on: August 09, 2016, 10:57:27 PM »
I kind of find this all very depressing.  We have a new anime and a new game coming our way, but my thoughts are confidently in the realm of "we've already had better."  In fact, I'm sure many of you know where I'm coming from with this mindset.  I'm excited to play the ps4 version, whenever that arrives, but I doubt it'll beat the dreamcast and ps2 games that came before in terms of content and quality.  The 97 anime and the golden age movies, for me, are watchable.  Even I feel the need to never introduce anyone to Berserk in its current form.  Needless to say I'm a little embarrassed at the thought.

As Griffith said in the recent podcast, perhaps the floor in terms of quality was MUCH higher than it is today.  Can't get worse, can it?

I found ep. 5 to be "bad“ last week (4/10, unbelievable awkward in every sense) and left the tread alone after voting but it was the 2nd “best” ep. after 4. This week though, Christmas in July happened, they did the impossible: Some problems, but enjoyable :isidro: I finally got actually human emotions inside me going and a form of curiosity to look at the screen. The many problems the 2 mods pointed out 100% apply but i can´t care anymore about misconstrued continuity anymore. That ship sailed with movie 2. This is the 1st time the show fully resembled a television program, regardless of the Mach 9 pacing. Bokurano got us beat though, they once did 1 whole Volume and a new prologue in the pilot! And the art, workmanlike as it may be, half the time ugly even, for fucking once they tried to be artistic. This is the 1st Berserk ep. a new viewer should be able to process. I suspect that i would check out the source materiel if i saw this on a something i disliked but followed for some reason.
A quality core could be seen in multiple key scenes to make one curios. The polar opposite was ep.3. (This is the 1st anime that started bad which i followed for multiple weeks in at least 3 years. This is one of the reasons i am still here, to remember what crap anime feels like for a prolonged period of time.) 6/10
@Walter Remember when you said that you liked the OP i despise for "going for it". They did it this week for me, especially the episode director.

Sometimes I read what you put out and think you HAVE to be a long time member with high level trolling.  Other times, idk what in the world is going on... :???:

I'm getting the same wonderful feels as I did the first read at Floras.  We're gonna get some fantastic world building dialogue that will no doubt solve some questions that have gone unanswered for years.

What a time to be a fan!  I personally am loving the island and all of its new and fascinating inhabitants.   :ubik:

I really enjoyed this episode. Besides the flash backs and animation, I thought it was pretty solid, considering who is presenting it.  Hopefully that feeling continues, as I'm sure this is as good as it can get.

I bet you guys didn't even know there are different grades of meat.   :schnoz:

I would be a little surprised to see Anna, Adon, and Wyald make the cut, but Tapasa would be the one I'd love to play as...which I also don't see. The others wouldn't surprise me too much.  How about a Garuda riding Daiba?   :carcus:

If you're supporting something then you're doing your part TBH. If you can't get behind "Berserk 2016" I understand. A lot of people can't. But I do feel like we as fans are obligated to dump some money into the series in one way or another right now. We're at a point in time where we actually have options for investing into the series. However you want to do that should help at least a little.

Good way to express all that.  I am behind this message 100%.  Being the first episode and readily prepared for it, I'm very understanding if someone has rage about the anime.  Supporting Berserk is something important to me, so I feel obligated to find the pros and point out the cons without making someone feel isolated from the entire thing....Even though there are plenty of flaws.   :ganishka:

I've tried to get my best friend to read the manga and have shown him the adaptions.  This came out and I was trying to say how they didn't do a good job and he said he loved it... :mozgus:  I wanted to tell him how ignorant he is, lol, but I feel that's a bit trivial if word of mouth gets more into the REAL story.

Apparently by getting pissed about Colette's death. Beats me. It was almost shounen like last minute power-up. Im surprised his hair didnt change to yellow.

I was enjoying "the brand" part of the episode quite a lot, but then the tree showed up... :daiba:

That power up thing, coming from someone who's only exposure to anime has been berserk, is a little....silly to me.   :griffnotevil:

From a financial standpoint only, aren't we somewhat obligated to grit our teeth and support this?  Don't shoot me down, just here me out a little.  Berserk is a niche property, and from the little I know (yes, little) about marketing, if we continue to shoot down every crappy release, won't we be more likely to get more, yet spaced out crap?

I'm honestly wondering should one of these adaptations, bad as they may be, if one were to find financial success, could this in turn grant us someone's attention who wants to invest in a bigger, better translation of the story?

Oh he'll go down for sure, but I don't expect that to be a serious, multi-episode fight. Guts will be mangling apostles right and left and Volkov will grab onto his arm with his mouth, just like old times. Then Guts will turn his head towards him and light the cannon. As Volkov shrieks and tries to understand what happened, he'll see the Dragon Slayer falling down on his miserable face. Oh yeah. :ubik:

If that happens even remotely close to what you said, the goosebumps I got from reading your thoughts will be painfully full.

I am not surprised that even SK tore into BvS  :ganishka:. I though consider the film to be the best US comic film after the related 2012 DKR toon film (Jay Oliva worked on both).

From one comic fan to another that baffles and frightens me so much.   :magni:  Reading Marvel and DC for over 20 years, I found BvS stunningly awful and I walked out of Xmen Apocalypse.

I'm planning to have one room especially dedicated to berserk with posters, mangashelves and what not, one room entirely for gaming and another one for warhammer 40k miniatures and novels/books.

I also want to learn japanese. I've started with Hiragana and so far so good, but we shall see how it goes. I tend to drop such projects in a month or two whenever a major obstacle appears so I'll have to force myself this time.

Dropping weight from 120 kg to 90 wouldn't be bad either.

That sounds like a great series of goals.  I've always thought about getting some sort of display case for statues and rare comics.

Big project I want I decided to put on hold till I'm bald and wrinkled.  Wanted three arcade machines for this rec room, but the total for them in great condition put my very high end klipsch 7.2 reference premier to shame. (which is next on my list, wife permitting :???: :guts:)  Eventually want to take the spare room and make it into a vintage looking arcade from my youth with glowing carpet, neon signs, the whole works.
