There's absolutely nothing appealing here. They need to step up these DLC skins if they want my money (but it's gonna have to be pretty good).

Watched it again with my fiance, who begrudgingly watched the Golden Age trilogy some time ago (it's the only way I can get them to experience Berserk). Thought it would be fun to share a couple comments they made while watching:

Quote
The animation looks different. I don't like it.
Everything looks like it's been scribbled on.
Ooh, those trees! I can't wait for Christmas!

Captured the essence of the experience well, I thought. Anyway, looks like I'll be the only one watching in my household from now on despite their initial commitment to following me down this shithole.

Very interesting news posted on Reddit: Crunchyroll will be producing the English-dubbed Bluray and DVD

If you look carefully, you can spot Caucasian Casca in several frames of the opening.

I didn't even recognize her in the very first shot where the camera pans up and shows the whole group. She's very pale in every single shot.

My notes:

Beginning with the prophesy is pretty cool.
Schierke?!
Opening doing a recap of GA is good. We shouldn't have to rehash that arc again anyway.
Isidro? Really? And he's with the Koka dudes??? The fuck is happening right now?
Grunge guitar is facepalm
Bar scene was underwhelming to say the least. Good god. How are you going to skip the iconic dragonslayer slash??
We see Guts prepare a meal...We can now rest easy knowing Guts eats food.
Guts is "possessed by evil spirits", that's weird.
Oh god, the Koka crew is pursuing Guts for revenge?? Why? What is the point of this?
No Jill at the possessed tree, but I'm glad they kept the backstory.
"It was bitten by an evil spirit." Apostles are evil spirits?? Hopefully a bad translation...
Chestnut Puck doesn't look right.
BLOOD AND GUTS AND GUTS AND BLOOD AND BLOOD AND GUTS (There's something slightly nostalgic about this though, I guess. I really do like the theme, but can we try a little harder with the libretto? Please?)
Naked Casca because why not.
Femto looks good
Demon Child looks bad
Good god this swirling camera Dragonslayer reveal. Nope.
So everyone is just kind of done fighting? What?
Canon arm was underwhelming as fuck. Scratch that, possessed tree was underwhelming as fuck. All of it. This was dumb.
Stepping on skulls like crunchy leaves in the fall
Offscreen cannon reload? I don't think he had enough time to do that given what we're shown, but sure, why not.
Oh fuck, it's over.
After credits scene?
Next time on Berserk: Guts already has the beherit, and it's blue!

Guys...
Guys...

I mean, I'm committed to watching the whole series, but this isn't good. I'm going to go watch the first episode of the '97 anime to wash my eyeballs out, then read Volume 1 to repair the damage done.

I'd love to be there, but I'll be either finishing up a job interview, or on my way home from said job interview.

Just in case I manage to get home in a reasonable amount of time and can watch the show before hand, here's my skype: bpgee359

Bravo for the first scene with that music :ubik:

I thought the music was so very different in style. I really liked it, but I was very surprised.

I think most of this episode was fan pandering, but it was so satisfying (possibly in all the wrong ways). Coming off the superficial experience, I thought it was utterly fantastic. Who knows if I'll feel the same after some time to let it soak in. So, R+L=J is all but confirmed, so that's cool.

Does anybody know if there will be co-op mode or online?

Unless I missed something, every single DW game has had local and online co-op. So Hopefully they include that in this game. It would be great to tear up the battle field with some SK players!

Just imagine if the final battle was against all the Ganishka Spawn. That would be utter chaos, and epic as hell with Ganishka lumbering forward in the background.

I've been silently hoping for this ever since the game was first being speculated. Each new info about this game gets me more and more pumped. I'm so stoked for this game! It looks absolutely great!

Thanks for the summary Aaz. There is so much to digest in this episode, and indeed, Griffith's attack on the Spiritual Trees is incredibly intriguing. I'm glad we won't have to wait very long for an explanation!

Love this episode! I cannot wait to see what everyone is saying.

That said, from the get-go I thought something felt off about the art, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it until someone of Reddit posted a couple images comparing Molda's sudden enhancement...

Also, do we know for sure that they are in Elfhelm? Or is this a different settlement inhabited by witches?

Was there anyone else wondering why Rickon ran in a straight line?? I'd imagine hitting a zigzagging target would be worlds more difficult.

Yep. Before he even started running, I said he better have sporadic movement or he'll be done in no time.

I was so calling it he would get hit by that last arrow and he was. Its so predictable it wasnt even funny.

It wasn't even tense (maybe it wasn't supposed to be?). Rickon's been out of the show for so long and the focus of the North is so focused on Sansa that there was no way I thought he would live. Not to mention all the heavy handed "foreshadowing" in the war council the night before. It was like watching two trains barreling towards each other.

See, for him, physical pain is pleasure to him, so when the dogs were eating him, it was more like he was screaming at the loss of control.

Ah, yes, that's actually a really good point. I like that interpretation.

Ramsey deserved way worse..but still found it a satisfying end for him.

I was really, really hoping Sansa would take a page out of her father's book, and as the rightful ruler of Winterfell, execute Ramsey by the sword herself. I kept screaming at the tv, "Give her a sword!" The dogs felt like a copout to me. I wasn't particularly satisfied.

Looks like we have post-incarnation Griffith, the Berserker armor, and trolls. And I assume the 9/21 date is for JP release? :beast:

Can't believe they killed off Wun Wun just for the sake of killing him....

I feel like that's basically been this entire season.

Saw this on Twitter, for those interested this is a much better translation than the PlayAsia one: http://s13.zetaboards.com/koeiwarriors/single/?p=10318994&t=7552040

Thanks Aaz, that's a much more satisfying translation!

Anime Asylum / Re: New Berserk Anime for 2016

Yeah I know, i just consider it a mini-arc in its own due to its length.

Seems pretty silly considering Lost Children is the second shortest chapter of the entire series.

-The game takes place from golden age upto black swordsman

That seems a bit vague and makes me apprehensive (do they mean the story arc, or Guts' character arc?). I'd really like to see content up through Millennium Falcon. Maybe have the final stage the battle at Vritannis. It would make sense seeing as how all the major characters are present in one place. But maybe that's asking too much :schierke:

But to be completely honest, I'm just worried I won't get to play as Serpico with the sylph sword and cloak :serpico:

Holy shit this is some awesome work! :ubik: I didn't realize you printed the DS. Can't wait to see more from the arm!

Interview with Hisashi Koinuma found on Reddit. Google translate is pretty rough so I don't want to speculate too much, but it would seem the game will go beyond the Golden Age, and this was a joint effort (as if there was any doubt) coinciding with the anime production. Apostle transformations were mentioned, but I'm not sure in what capacity--possibly as large scale bosses.

Interesting. I wonder how long until the old covers are replaced physically. I'd really like to have a full run of the original covers before they are cycled out.
