Current Episodes / Re: Episode 350

This is indeed happening much more rapidly that I anticipated. I'm loving the montage though. Seeing everything through Casca's eyes, literally, is really neat. I can't help but feel that through all these experiences, Farnese is going to gain such an intimate knowledge of Casca's and Guts' love for each other that putting her feelings aside won't be a matter of question. But maybe that's too clean and idealized.

Uhhh, I'm all for saying Scott has lost his touch, but to be fair he already made the most compelling entry in the franchise before it was a lousy franchise. I think it's ill advised for him to do these new ones, but it's just as much a mistake to start letting it color your judgement of his stellar work from almost 40 years ago (basically a different person in a different time). I'm all for separating the person from the artist and the artist from the art, but also credit when and where due.

That's fair to say. I was hasty in my remark about the original Alien, coming off a state of abject disappointment.

In other news, here are some scenes that probably should have been in Alien: Covenant, but aren't for some reason. Instead they were relegated to YouTube promotional material. I only just learned about them today. I think they would enhance a first time viewer's experience of the film, which begs the question as to why a whopping 8 minutes couldn't be squeezed into the final cut. But what do I know, I'm not a film maker.

Prologue: Last Supper (No spoilers)

Prologue: The Crossing (Maybe light spoilers? But not really)

Saw Alien: Covenant, and the more I ruminate on it, the more I dislike it. There's not one thing I cared for in the entire movie other than the spaceship and the panoramas. It basically took all the stupid shit from Prometheus and smashed it into a halfassed version of Alien to create a movie that's easily the weakest entry in the franchise, imo (full discloser, I've only seen parts of Resurrection, and that was probably 15 years ago). I walked out of the theatre feeling utterly unfulfilled in every way possible. I'm starting to think Scott's success with the first Alien was a fluke, because the more of these movies he makes, the more it shows he doesn't know how to make a compelling entry.

Well here's hoping they translate it into english then.

Dark Horse did/does publish Vampire Hunter D, so there's a chance they might pick this up, but considering their history with Berserk, translating an entire novel might 1) take forever, and 2) never actually happen.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

I never got around to playing Dark Arisen, but I absolutely loved the original Dragon's Dogma. I thought the world development and finale sequence of that game was incredible. Just wish it had been as popular here as it was/is in Japan.

It's gonna look like beast wars.

To bad this adaptation wasn't released in 1996.

I forgot this was even happening. Guess I'll fire up the ole Crunchyroll sub (against better judgement) and see what the dumpster fire is all about.

As angry as everyone else on the internet seems to be about the old cast not reprising their roles, that petition sure isn't gaining any traction.

**Random note** I was playing Wyald while listening to Spotify, and "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen started playing. That song is literally everything Wyald stands for.

 :ganishka: That's perfect!

Big question now is if there'll even be a season 3. During Season 1's touring, the producer alluded in interviews to having more episodes in the can -- presumably that was season 2 -- but what about moving forward?

Lost Children, here we come! :troll:

Well shit. Looks like I was wrong. I predicted that they were going to cover volumes 22-26, ending with the fight between Guts and Grunbeld, but it looks like they want to rush through even more material, going so far as to encompass all or most of v22 in a single episode. Fucking Christ.

That was about par for the course last season I believe. I seem to remember specifically it was either volume 19 or 20 that was fit into a single episode. I could be misremembering though, and it was only half the volume. Either way, it wasn't good.

Got to play the For Honor beta this weekend a little bit. It was a lot of fun, but honestly, I couldn't see myself spending full price on it. I don't know how robust the single player story is, but I get the feeling the game was entirely designed around the multiplayer aspect, and if that's the case, there was nothing particularly amazing about the game. It certainly didn't draw me in. There was never that "Ok, just one more game" feeling.

This could be in part because of connectivity issues though. Out of the entire weekend, I only got two chances to play several games back-to-back. I think most of my time was spent wondering why my NAT type in-game was Strict while my PS4 kept telling me it was Moderate. I think I sat in lobbies waiting for my NAT type to randomly switch over to Type 2 more than actually playing the game. Seems like this was a somewhat common problem among other players, and I probably could have fixed it by port forwarding, but the last time I did that I got yelled at :farnese: (it's kind of a long story). Apparently the game also connects peer to peer, so that might have something else to do with my particular problems.

Maybe once I catch up on my backlog (and if the connection issues get addressed) I'll consider picking the game up, but all things considered, this is a definite pass for me.

Indeed I meant March (3/3)

Shamelessly dropping off info found on Reddit:

Looks like the anime is to resume in April with a preview of sorts on May March 3rd. Official dates will be posted on the website (of course).

Looks like Volume 38 is out July 5th, although Amazon still has it listed as the 18th.

Saw La La Land last weekend and really liked it. I've been listening to the soundtrack/score all week and the music has been stuck in my head, which is something that hasn't happened in a long time.

Hopefully they'll use Oh Ashes more judiciously in this next season. And maybe Sagisu's music will make more sense...or you know, actually work (I still can't get over that Griffith reveal all these months later).

Must be low on the totem pole (not really surprised), but I guess a year from the JP release is pretty consistent.

Character Cove / Re: Guts and Silat
« on: November 17, 2016, 05:34:10 PM »
I don't think there will be any reason for conflict between Guts and Silat. They got off on the wrong foot, but these two aren't going to be enemies. They have quite a bit in common.

I think it would be neat if they sparred a bit and Guts acknowledged Silat's development. It would be completely unnecessary, of course. Especially considering Silat's words in the last few episodes that featured him. Anyway, just thinking about when/if Guts and Co. link up with the Bakiraka gets me so excited.

The Godhand are basically invincible now

You think so? Assuming they truly have gained a physical body (I'm only skeptical since we haven't actually seen them since the Blast), I would say that makes them much more vulnerable than they were before.

That quote from slan is the sole reason why I started this whole conversation about Guts using a beherit

I wouldn't read too much into it. While Slan seems to have an interest in Guts, and twice she's mused about him becoming an apostle, the confrontation in the Qliphoth seems to be entirely about evoking visceral emotions out of Guts. She taunts him and even intentionally goads him into impaling her. In fact, I'd argue Slan may be more interested in the raw emotions Guts exhibits than the man himself.

Who knows, Guts might find another Crimson Beherit and knowing it might be the only way he could match Griffith's power, sacrifice Casca only to have her memory recently restored. A true heartbreak

Even if Guts found a crimson beherit, he'd be waiting another 200+ years for an Eclipse ceremony. Becoming an apostle or God Hand probably wouldn't work either, considering the being that bequeaths those abilities is also the one that manipulated Griffith into power to begin with. Of course we don't know all (or even many) of the rules that govern the God Hand, but the solution you suggest seems very unlikely, doesn't it?

Personally I think Guts might have to resort to using a Beherit to gain more immense power and beat them to the ground  :guts: :femto:

In what way?

Do you think we can we get Puella that job? :carcus: :ganishka:

This was posted on Reddit and thought it was interesting.

Allegedly this is a comparison of the bluray version (left) and the version that we initially received (right).
