Schierke looks pretty cool, though I was hoping for some appearances from the major elementals or even the four kings.

1.The opportune time to invade Elfhelm has probably passed now that Griffith and his demon army are under siege from monsters

That's not accurate. The wing stones repel the magical creatures. That's what allows people to farm the land around the city without incident. Now that his kingdom is established, it's certainly about time Griffith expanded his direct control...

Elfhelm is too far from Griffiths reach. If Griffith considered one dying witch a priority over Ganishka, I dread to think the damage several guru mages and an Elf Queen revered by SK himself would do to apostles.

We now know Griffith was after more than just Flora. He was destroying spiritual trees in preparation for the Blast of the Astral World. So presumably he needed to accomplish that before defeating Ganishka.

It's well known that Femto is essentially Demon Jesus.

I think it's more accurate to compare Griffith to the Anti-christ, not Christ himself. Griffith is misleading innocent people into believing he is a messiah figure.

Anyhow forgive me if I am wrong but when people bring up Griffith at this point and the story and Femto I am not following.

Essentially, Griffith, a normal human, became a very powerful astral being, Femto, during the Eclipse ceremony. During the Incarnation ceremony at Albion, Femto was given a corporeal body in which he could exist in the physical world. The incarnated Griffith is more or less Femto wearing a Griffith suit.

Griffith's apostle form however seems to be very powerful as well though I doubt it is as powerful as Femto (an example of his power at least so far was him removing Zodd's horn, no big deal) but still a huuuge challenge. Thoughts?

This is confusing to me. Griffith doesn't have an apostle form because he isn't an apostle. He's part of the God Hand and thus much more powerful than any apostle. So of course he subjugated Zodd with minimal effort. He does the same with Ganishka, who was unable to even stand up in Griffith's presence at Vritannis. Again, Griffith and Femto are one and the same, there is no power difference.

I think currently what we have going on is a no win situation for Guts.

Going back to the beginning of your post, I think you should take into consideration some things before making this kind of claim. We know that Griffith most likely has a weakness in that the Demon Child can still exert emotional impulses (such as when it compelled Griffith to protect Casca on the hill of swords). In addition to that, there is the Moonlight Boy and his possible relationship to Griffith, which has been discussed at length on this site. There's also what Skull Knight tells Guts about being more than a shadow on the water's surface; that he may be able to disrupt causality (much like SK attempts to do at temporal junction points throughout the series). Since Guts' last encounter with Femto, we've learned that the Dragon Slayer can inflict astral wounds, and Guts has received the berserk's armor, both of which put him on more equal footing with powerful creatures. And lastly, we know that the God Hand were brought into the physical world during the Blast of the Astral World, and while that may allow them more direct control over humanity, it also stands to reason that it makes them significantly more vulnerable to attacks.

Now, I'm not convinced Guts can, or even will, take on the Idea of Evil, but I think Miura has been carefully crafting a way for Guts to be able to defeat the God Hand, specifically Griffith, for a very long time now.

I had my suspicions about the implications of barytes and I'm happy y'all validated my notion in this podcast. While I was excited before, this has put me way over the edge. It is really cool how Miura is tying his fantasy world to a little bit of science (I wonder if his development of Gigantomakhia spurred him in this direction?). I cannot wait to learn even more or see how this develops within the story's plot.

Excellent podcast, guys and gal!

When Nina and Casca are captured and Nina pushes Casca away, she falls on the side like a mannequin too.

Oh man, that took me right out of the scene. It looked like Casca just straight up died. It was so incredibly weird.

Forgot to add that the goo monster did not look that scary compared to the manga. I wish it looked less goofy.

It looks like Jello, and not nearly as cool as the black mass in the manga.

Another gripe in this is a problem they've had at least a dozen times now. When they have an important piece of visual information to reveal, they pan the camera over it super quick and cut away before it even really registers what you's looking at. In this case it was the Beherit Apostle descending from the domed roof of the cathedral while Mozgus and pals were barring the door. It does this twice in pretty quick succession, it just quick pans past these details and doesn't give them any emphasis. This is sure to lead to some confusion for people that miss that the Apostle stung each of these guys like he did the Goat Heretic. Kind of an important point that Mozgus didn't have wings all along.

Yeah, I didn't think the stings were very clear, and the wings seemed confusing. I could see people thinking Mozgus was right all along, or that God really is granting him powers. It was easy enough to miss, though hopefully seeing the baphomet in the last episode will clue people in to what happened. I felt that the Demon Child deflecting Mozgus' fire breath happened way too quickly also. You see the kid for a fraction of a second before he disappears. I actually think that's a really cool moment in the manga, and here it lasts long enough you could miss it if you blink.

Dark Horse apparently has no plans to reprint Berserk in the near future. Looks like it's a bad time to be an English reading fan. Maybe once (if?  :magni:) they localize volume 38 they'll start rolling out some reprints.

LiveAnotherDave over on Reddit made a nice Imgur album of some of the new creatures introduced in this episode and historical art that bear resemblances to them. I thought y'all might be interested in taking a look. Check it out here!

Well now that we've seen a Femto model (I assume this is a line up of bosses?) I wonder if he'll be playable, or rather, the transformation of Falcon of Light Griffith :carcus:

Of course, seeing any member of the God Hand getting down and dirty on the battle field would be hysterical in a weird way.

Happy to see the Snake Baron. I really hope he's playable too! Not enough polearm characters in Berserk (though I guess Adon and Boscgone kind of fix that), so we need all the representation we can get!

Incredible! I almost feel just an overwhelmed as our heroes! So many new creatures. The comedy in this episode was top notch. I loved the panel with the elf prying Serpico's eye open to get a better look! :serpico: And Puck as the king is rather hysterical. I must admit feeling slightly let down after years of imagining a king on the throne, BUT that reveal...Good god, it got me a little bit I have to admit (This is happening! It's really happening!). The [Ruler] of the Flower Storm is every bit as impressive as one could expect. What an absolutely stunning splash page! And the more I think about it, the more I appreciate having my expectations subverted. It really is just a fantastic surprise after all these years.

Anyway, in this moment I have a special thought for Dark Horse's translator and his exceptionally stupid decision to create the mistranslated monstrosity that is "Hanabufuku King". Have fun explaining to the readers that it's really "Queen of the Flower Storm".

Much like "hawk" I'm sure they'll just ignore their mistake. "'Hanabufuku King' is what we call all of our monarchs!" :schnoz:

Anime Asylum / Re: 2016 Berserk TV series: Episode 7
« on: August 16, 2016, 06:55:37 PM »
Your explanation is incorrect, or at least confusing. This is merely a joke made by Puck in passing, it's not meant to be an actual description of what Isidro is. It is not a "Japanese version" of Isidro's name, just a pun on it, and there's no deeper meaning to it beyond the pun.

Apologies. That's what I was trying to get at, but I didn't articulate it well.

Anime Asylum / Re: 2016 Berserk TV series: Episode 7
« on: August 16, 2016, 01:51:22 AM »

Found the reference in the Manga, but honestly the version I read I could see how it might have gone unnoticed. Puck says "ahhh so Ishidori!?" "A Robber... Who Throws...Stones?" Still not sure where the meaning comes from so if someone knows more about it I would love to know. Couldn't find much in my search through the archives although I will admit searching by name and meaning brings up extensive unrelated results so forgive me if it's already been discussed in another thread.

It's just the Japanese. "Ishi" (石) means rock and "dorobo" (泥棒) means thief. Drop the "bo" and you have Isidro (spelled out in katakana: イシドロ), which is the Japanese version (not sure if there's a better way to say this) of Isidro's name. From what I understand, it's common in Japanese to make puns out of words/phrases that have multiple meaning or uses. In this case Isidro is both his name, and a description of what he is.

Edit: Of course I somehow missed the much more concise response by Earthlingzing.

Are you playing on PS4 or PC? I haven't started it yet because I didn't want all the bugs to tarnish the experience...

I'm on PS4. Still some glitches and issues, but nothing like what is happening to PC (from what I gather).

Been playing No Man's Sky and having a really fun time. Unfortunately, I see how this might become monotonous fast. I wish there was a bit more RPG to it. The game seems like it would be an amazing compliment to another facet of a game (thinking Mass Effect's story, with No Man Sky's exploration), but that might be way too much going on.

At any rate I bought a new (giant) ship and am content with my $60 purchase for now (despite all the harsh criticisms the internet has been dishing out).

I actually would have appreciated Sword Wind. I am, however, surprised they didn't just lazily rehash their naming scheme and call it Berserk Warriors or Dynasty Warriors: Berserk.

God, what a shit name. I assume it's because most people are only familiar with the Golden Age. I mean, I guess it's true that the Band of the Falcon exists for most of the story between the two iterations, but there's also a chunk where it doesn't (wonder if Lost Children will get the axe here too...).

That description mentions playable apostles -- plural.  :daiba:

Gimme me the mighty five! :beast:

How often did the baby actually protect :casca: in the manga?

Quite a few times. He comes to Casca's rescue several times during the Conviction arc. The ones I can think of: by the stream, at the pagan orgy, and again from Mozgus' fire.

Furthermore, it skips the significance of living in the interstice, and the ability to slightly change events during junctions of time, and of course the analogy of the moon's light reflected on the surface of water.

Oh fuck, you're right. I tend to confuse what all is said between this meeting and the conversation on the beach. Wow, the fish analogy is one of my favorite concepts from the series. This completely changes my already tepid opinion on the anime's version.

I live in Canada... so do you guys think I could buy the CD, and if so could I even play it in Canada? Is there a region block or some stuff like that? Sorry if it's a stupid question. Also oc I dont speak Japanese...

CDJapan will be more user friendly (i.e. in English), and their shipping isn't too terrible from what I can tell.
