Vagabond / Eiichirou Oda (One Piece) talks with Inoue-sensei
« on: August 19, 2010, 06:03:08 PM »

Two of my three favourite mangaka sit down to talk about how awesome they are.

Only three of the six parts are translated right now, but please take the time to read all of it. Oda himself is a master of his craft and One Piece is worthy of the praise Inoue gives it. Really insightful to hear how each artist goes about his work. Enjoy!

Edit -- Oh, and here's Oda on One Piece of Vagabond

Movies, TV, Books & Music / Re: Criterion to go Blu...

Well, this was a nice surprise when my wife told me about it today:

Quote from: Criterion Collection

March is Akira Kurosawa month at Criterion. On the twenty-third, the great Japanese filmmaker would have been one hundred years old.

    * Restored high-definition digital transfers (with uncompressed monaural soundtracks on the Blu-ray editions)
    * Optional Dolby Digital 3.0 soundtracks, preserving the original Perspecta simulated sound effects (DTS-HD Master Audio on the Blu-ray edition)
    * Audio commentaries by Kurosawa scholar Stephen Prince
    * Documentaries on the making of Yojimbo and Sanjuro, created as part of the Toho Masterworks series Akira Kurosawa: It Is Wonderful to Create
    * Theatrical teasers and trailers
    * Stills galleries of behind-the-scenes photos
    * New and improved English subtitle translation
    * PLUS: Booklets featuring essays by film writers Alexander Sesonske and Michael Sragow and comments from Kurosawa and members of his cast

So, basically the same as the DVD box set, which I own. This puppy comes out tomorrow -- I've already ordered it =)

Or just Isma and it has no particular meaning, like I suggested earlier?

Sure it does, if you look at the big picture.

Her last name is probably "Char" and as you know in the Japanese naming tradition, the family name goes first :P [/clutchingatstraws]

But, yeah, didn't see your post.

Just finished reading the episode. Title is "See you all in August!" 鳴る瀬ろの娘 so, Daughter of the Roaring Rapids?

Will be sending it for the rest of you =)

Also, her name is Isuma. Google tells me it means "to think" in Inuit.

This is why is the greatest website ever -- insta responses!

What kind of advice are you looking for, trusted brands, or just like, a basics guide to how to assemble the components?

A little bit of all of that. A general symposium of ideas -- helpful hints, suggestions, etc.

Based on a recommendation, the compiled list is this:

Case: Antec Twelve Hundred or HAF 932
Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D PRO LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard
CPU: Intel Core i5-750
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB
HDD: Samsung or SeaGate
PSU: Antec TruePower New TP-750 Blue 750W
Video Card: XFX HD-485X-ZDFC Radeon but I am very open to other suggestions =)
Monitor: No idea where to start, but was thinking this: ASUS VH226H Black 21.5" 2ms HDMI Widescreen

Any feedback would be appreciate. Cheers again, Aaz =)

Hey guys, if you don't mind, I'd like to prod your minds with a few questions.

I've never built a PC before, but I've come into a little graduation money and am looking at between $900-$1,000 to spend. Because this is my first time, I want to make sure that I'm fully equipped to handle this project -- because I'm tired of getting package "deals" from Dell, HP and the like. This is a little pet project that I want to get right first time.

The PC would be used for gaming -- games like ME2, for example -- (but I don't mind if it doesn't run games better than ANYTHING out there on the market) and plenty of multitasking without the slow down. My current desktop takes about three days to open Microsoft Word and about four days to open iTunes. I'm not sure what this "over clocking" business is either, so if anyone can explain it in terms that I'd understand (which most PC-centric websites fail to do) I'd appreciate it.

So far in my research, I've found a case/fan combo from various websites that seems like decent value:

Combo Deal: OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ600MXSP & HAF 922 (not sure if I should spend the extra money on the 932... to be honest, I'm not sure if I'll need a full tower).

That's about the extend of the items I've found. I've known many of you for a long, long time, so I trust your opinions over anyone else.

Cheers guys =)

Looks like I'll be getting a little extra money as a graduation this year.

Could you chaps point me in the direction of the DIY PC building sites? Want a screamer for around $900 (not including monitor... that can come later).

Vagabond / Inoue Confirms End of Vagabond Manga by Year's End
« on: January 05, 2010, 03:58:27 AM »
Posted 10 minutes ago... here's the blurb from Anime News Network:

Acclaimed manga creator Takehiko Inoue (Slam Dunk, REAL) confirmed on his website on Monday that he will end his manga within the year. He had already said in April of last year that he will end the manga "within one or two years."

Inoue has been drawing the manga since 1998, and Kodansha is publishing the 32th compiled volume in Japan this month. Viz Media published the 30th volume in North America in November. Viz also publishes Inoue's Slam Dunk and REAL manga.

The Agency for Cultural Affairs of the Japanese government gave Inoue the MEXT Art Encouragement Shinjin Prize in the Media Arts category last March. Inoue won the separate Media Arts Festival Award in the Manga category for Vagabond in 2000. The same manga earned the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2002.

Yeah, I was already thinking that it was a lousy coincidence that you returned right at the start of a volume break. But I hear ya, I almost went crazy myself trying to juggle school (especially with transfer applications due this month), everything else, and Vagabond. You almost done after the spring at least?
Yeah, I'll be done with my English and Japanese major. My folks and little brother are coming to England for my big American graduation ceremony.

Cool, have you also checked out the LAST Manga exhibition stuff, or are you wary of it?
Oh very much so, I was going to work on a crazy presentation thread, but you guys all beat me to it. I think I joked in the thread that I was going to "brb" while I went there to see the exhibition.

A Uriel sighting! How ya been? :badbone:
Busy like you wouldn't believe. But after seeing that panel, I found some time to clean it up :guts:

My semester is coming to a close soon, so hopefully I will be able to spend more time here. Sadly, it seems the next chapter won't be coming out until the Spring semester is almost on my doorstep. Damn Inoue!

Anyway, I'll be re-reading from around volume 25 soon -- so expect me to pop up!

Cheers, Branded!

The beautiful Sloggo Spiral of Death and Killing's sequence of images is much more powerful when you know what Musashi's talking. It's probably one of the best parts of the volume.

Took the liberty of doing a quick tidy-up. Here, this is for you.

All caught up! Just need to "read" the Japanese scans for 287 now....

Why the frell did Kojirou attack Ittosai? I must be forgetting some important fact. Is this directly after Sekigahara?

So these should work?

* Windows Vista Home Premium
        * CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 2.0G
        * RAM: 3GB DDR2
        * Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS (dunno much about video cards)
        * 250GB

Yeah, it came with Vista.

I just got finished with Demon's Souls (FANTASTIC game) and Dragon Age looks like a nice way to continue.

Also... are you using the same character, Aaz & Wally?

Aaz's pics do make me want to try this game.

My laptop would be able to run it, by the looks of it. No way I'd get the console version, though.

Has anyone tried their hands on Uncharted 2 yet? It's looks amazing and is getting stellar reviews.

I've been in the BETA for a while now. It's damn impressive, man. What's surprising is how fun the multiplayer is. I figured it would be completely throwaway -- but when you're playing together which a bunch of friends, it's a riot!
