Thanks for going through the trouble man. Sleep well!
I'm really curious to know more about the trees, what Griffith did and what his objective may be. I'm sure we'll know more soon. :guts:

I think their attack on Flora was the beginning of Griffith's attack on "The Forest of Spiritual Trees", but I'll need time to translate.

Sorry I couldn't do more, man.  おやすみ

Okay. I REALLY have to go to bed, because it's late in Japan and I just got settled in. I'm really sorry guys. BUT I will give a quick overview of the first half.

We enter the home of the gurus, much to the awe of Guts and co. Isidro remarks how huge the places is. We are introduced to a few new faces here. The other gurus are busy playing chess, and not paying attention to their visitors. The red-nosed guru turns to someone and says "Hey, Danan-chan, is lunch ready yet?" while the others are still arguing about their chess match. Danan is introduced as a young, blonde witch with round balls in her hair, and flowers crowning her hat. She scolds him for just eating, but the red-nosed guru doesn't seem to recall doing so... old person jokes aplenty.

Isidro interrupts in his usual brash manner asking if this is where the village geriatrics meet, only to be quickly reprimanded by Cucca. She formally introduced these wizened grand sages.

居付きのスキルビル Skilbill the Settled = red nose, wavebeard
スラーイン Slyne / Slahin? = long-beard
ギンナル Ginnaru / Ginnal = black-eyed curly beard

(the other two had titles, but I decided to skip over them for now)

Danan is introduced as kind of the at-home help, and she, of course, welcomes Puck back after a long voyage. She bids them take off their shoes, as she is about to make some tea.

Guts wastes no time getting to the point. He is here to see the elf king. "I came all the way here with the feeling of 'I have to meet him no matter what it takes as I have something to request of him.' The object of my goal is right in front of me. Please!" he basically pleads. The gurus empathize, but first, Gelfring bids him calm down, and have some tea first. At this point everyone else chimes in to say that maybe a bit of a break and some of Danan's cooking wouldn't be so bad. Guts is impatient, but goes along with everyone else's wishes. (Puck literally says "My soul food!" while tucking into some snacks!)

At this time more witches from outside are peering in, clearly interested in the visitors. The group recounts some of their adventures with trolls and the like. The young witches seems shocked and impressed! Not Morda though. She is chilling off camera, as it were, reclining in a chair and being her usual smarmy self.

We cut to Ged who is talking to Guts. He says something like "According to 'The Blast of the Astral World,' the world brought about the Falcon of Light's is certainly the world of myth and legends that has been passed down from stories."

Guts: "That story. I want you to tell me the details."

A long, complicated explanation transpires that my tired brain refuses to translate or summarize right now. Something about the trees that connect the world, Griffith's objective, and the connection with the Beherit.

At the end of the episode, Guts tries to give the gurus an impression of Griffith. "To obtain a country is just a stepping stone. Surpassing the heights that you aim for, and continuing to soar past them, that is the Hawk, Griffith." or some such. Followed by....

More Berserk next month. Oh, and a pretty huge double-sided poster of the manga/anime.

The flashback stuff made sense to me, even it's placement.

The animation and music continue to shake me out of enjoying the experience at all. Just when I think "Oh, here we go!" I'm instantly distracted by a grotesque audio or visual cue. Still, this episode was markedly better than the first, but that isn't saying much.

Save us in episode 3, Miura!

Not sure where to post impressions, but here we go:

I finally got around to watching it last night. Expectations were Mariana Trench low, but managed to find some positives.

+ 10 seconds of Susumu!
+ Akio Ohtsuka narration was welcome.
+ Some of the hand-drawn moments were excellent.
+ I pretty much like the voice cast from what I heard.
+ CG aside, some of the DS moments were pretty cool.
+ Seeing Flora and Schierke was unnecessary, but nice.
+ The environment, grading, and colouring fit the mood of the world.
+ I prefer the frying pan DS noise when compared to the Berserk Musou sound effect.

- The pacing was odd.
- Objectified Caucasian Casa.
- The music. Utterly uninspired.
- OP and ED themes were pretty subpar.
- CG. Bad PS2 cut scenes. Awful artistic choice.
- The weird scene with the tree getting sliced... just... what?
- Guts' yelling 'GRIFFITH' sounded more like he was annoyed at him for leaving the toilet seat up.

That's pretty much what I can think of from memory. I didn't mind Isidro being a bar wench. It's easy to see why they would want to introduce the character earlier.

I'll keep watching for a few more episodes, but I'm foreseeing many facepalm.gif moments along the way.

It wouldn't be if they offered some extra incentive -- colored pages, new posters, etc. But without? None.

Spotted in the wild... it'd be ludicrous to re-buy these, right......?

Interestingly, the little Puck picture is on the back of all the new volume slip covers.

One million years later

They have arrived at Skellig

Full huge res here:

Aaahhh, this is nice. Really like the colours!

I feel like I've seen Azan at that angle before, though.... :azan:

finally, here is almost all the volume covers in the new style with a decent resolution, only 2-3 are missing

Gods, Volume 27 still looks so good...

Anyway. Volume 38 is sat next to me as we speak. Although the color posters are gorgeous, and expertly drawn and shaded... I'm not a big fan. This digital style (which I believe it is) doesn't have the grit I look for in Miura's coloured works. There is a odd fidelity to them that has been bothering me since I first clapped eyes on them; a distracting glossiness. Miura is, of course, entitled to change his medium or methods to his heart's content, and, naturally, with time he'll achieve even greater wonders with these tools. I'd wholeheartedly agree that it already works really well with bright tones and strong saturation, like with Elfhelm's poster... but the digital stitches are showing, and it's off-putting.

Would love to hear everyone else's thoughts.

Thanks! Having discussed it with puella, I think the event's name should rather be something like "The Great Gust/Blast of the Astral World". Might be better to abandon the "wind" theme for the real meaning of a "big change" though.

Yeah, I trust you guys. Had a hard time finding the kanji. Not quite sure why 'Astral' is your go-to. I thought of it as 'Underworld' or some kind of parallel, unseen world. Either way, the otherworldly feeling is conveyed by any of them.

Also we already knew Molda's name, it was given in the last episode. Could be either be Molda or Morda but personally I favor the former. The others I'd say are probably either Kukka or Cucca, Yoni and Tune (pronounced "neh" at the end, but somehow I don't see Miura using an accent for it).

Happily deferring to you guys for the female witches, but I like Morda is better.  =)

For the old man, "Ged" is only an abbreviation, he actually gives out his full name if you don't mind checking again, it's something like "Gedfring".

Gah, sorry. ゲドフリン Gedring or Gedfrin, I'd wager.

Hey guys, this is my first post :)
Anybody else notice that the same wizard we first saw getting his day ruined in one of Puck's flashbacks appeared again in the new episode?
I hope we get to hear his account of Puck's behaviour on Skellig haha

Haha, good catch!

Sure thing.

モルダ = sexy witch Morda
クッカ =  braided, black haired witch Cucha?
ヨニ = young male warlock Yoni?
テューネ = tall light haired witch Chunι?
ゲド大導師様 = Goat Rider Monk - Grand Guru Ged (GGG)

There is also a really long interview with Miura, and a "After Recording" comic strip about Miura and some other people working on the anime. It's pretty neat!

Oh. And "大幽界嘯" is the kanji for the event. The Great Howl of the Underworld...?

I think this is a preview of a Super attack:

I think the colours are a bit muted honestly. I know Berserk is gritty and dirty and life in the trenches ain't pretty, but I hope the variety of destinations are a little more interesting to look at. But overall I like the look of what's to come.

Secured my volume and Young Animal issue early! Quite a happy chap.

What a phenomenal amount of information. The summary definitely helped! Thanks puella.

The full interview was already posted.

Right you are.

Here are a few more details via NeoGaf:

-The game takes place from golden age up to black swordsman
-Some scenes from 1997 anime and movie are used, as well as brand new stuff for the game. There will be a lot of scenes.
-the game is not directly tied with the newly airing Berserk anime. The game is made so even people who are not familiar with Berserk can enjoy
-There are huge boss battles, 1v1 against boss, fighting against small enemies and boss popping up during the battle
-lots of boss characters in the game, like Zodd and bull/ox monster.
-Guts' fighting style changes as the story progresses in the manga, and the game will reflect that in the gameplay
-As with other Musou games, Guts is not the only playable character.
-the game's visual style will be similar to the poster
-The core target audience for the game is the fans of the original manga. But newcomers will also be able to enjoy the game.
-Japan and West have different restrictions for gore/erotic. Japan is more strict on gore stuff, while West is more strict on erotic stuff. So they want to get the balance right while staying true to the original.
-they will release a video featuring Guts soon.

My precious spines...  :judo:

I know that feel.

Years of collecting. Beautiful bookshelves of uniform manga spines, like pretty maids all in a row... like.. pretty.. maids... :judo:

I'll be walking into the bookstore with a heavy heart next week when the next volume comes out.

Berserk Miscellaneous / Re: Berserk Musou game...?

Would make sense. There's a concerted marketing push going on, and a game would fit in nicely with the rest. Plus that genre, with its focus on 1 vs 10000 action and lack of story, would make for an easy adaptation. Of course that doesn't mean it would be good.

I am a total sucker for the One Piece musou games. I reckon, with the right selection of characters, it could be satisfying.

BTW, I think they will skip Lost Children.

Maybe they edited them out for the PV? :troll:
