Shootin' the Breeze / Re: Hurricane Katrina
« on: September 01, 2005, 07:35:34 PM »
I have received this in my e-mail :

You can provide temporary housing to a New Orleans area refugee:
http://www.hurricanehousing.org/host.html

You can set limits on who is placed with you (able bodied,
retirement age, has a dog, no cats please, whatever).  You can
change or withdraw your offer at any time.

Relief agencies will contact you to select a match and make the
necessary travel arrangements.  You will most likely receive someone
from the stadium so that they can accommodate additional refugees
inside the stadium.

Housing is most urgently needed within driving distance (about 300
miles) of the affected areas in the Southeast, especially New
Orleans.  But no matter where you live, you can still make a world
of difference to a person in need, so please offer what you can.

If you do not have bed space available, you can volunteer your own
self, or donate funds:

VOLUNTEER TO GO AND HELP:
https://www.saussw.org/crd/dsrreg.nsf/registrationw?OpenForm

DONATE:
https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp

Thank you,

--Lorelei

Well he was dying anyway, that's why they were summoned...
No even if he was cut in little pieces he could not die. Guts himself admitted it and he had much fun continuing to stab someone that could not die and could so endure anything that he would do to him
If it bleeds, we can kill it.
It depends on who bleeds more :P

Yeah, I think so. As far as regenerative powers, the Snail Count is unmatched, and he still died eventually, even if Guts had to stab him in the face after having cut his head off.
It was not Guts that killed him. In fact there was enough life in him to summon the five of the God Hand and if he had enough common sense to let them  put a little mark on Theresia... we now would be reading "The Adventures of the Snail Count" :P :P :P :P

It could work...if Zood wasn't a lot more intelligent, fast and mean than a ogre

None at all. Skully and Guts already had their chances...and they blew it twice at least . And Zodd , we saw, regenerate fast. He is able to heal a totally severed  arm simply by connecting it to the stump. How do you kill someone like that ? The only one that could do it,Griffith, has no reason to kill his lieutenant. Also it is absurd to think that everyone will die and Zodd is a very probable survivor when all will end.

And that is your pic LadyW.? :o 8)  It is very good done and it is very beautiful .
Now...hem..don't take this personal...but ...those ears...you really should do something about them. I understand the surgeons nowadays don't come cheap but you could cover them with a chap...now I repeat no offense intended , it just that you are otherwise so beautiful that is a shame...

The Kushan attack is about to start, so obviously we can expect more threats to appear, and probably more familiars. Now I doubt this tiger in particular to be much of a problem if he's alone.
Yea , but the other beast (the one that did appear in the past issues) had no stripes so we can guess that there are at least two of them and very likely, if it is a full scale attack, many of them

How about the grand old opera scene, another fine tribute to the comics! Oh, whoops.
Yup, Strauss opera " The Bat" was one of the inspiration of "the Batman"

The only other thing I was disapointed was with who killed Bruce's parents, I know the Joker wasn't in the movie, but it would have been a great tribute to the first Batman.

It was a great tribute to the comics books were  the killer of Bruce's parents was...Joe Chill ( the Joker was a nine year old - like Bruce- when they did kill Bruce parents  ;D)

The detective.
waits for someone to figure out why I posted this
Yup . Good old R'as didn't call Bats "detective". Not even once. And Talia...well she didn't call Bruce in any way because she wasn't there. Let us hope in one of the sequels ;D

Anyway I agree: this is Batman like it should to be done  8)

Yes but your strategy hints to a strategic "body" usage.
Not at all . For example if there were no more pillars behind whom Serpico could hide it could be "letting go of the hilt" because Guts could think Serpico defendless...instead it could be just then that Serpico could launch the attack that he had in mind

Do you think Guts will ever be wrestled by Serpico now? Guts fans will throw their manga to the toilet. Even if Guts was wrestled by Griffith when they were much younger.
Of course it did escape to you that I was hinting at a possible strategy of Serpico, not that he would literally wrestle Guts.

Well, why "Gorin no sho"? It's known like that there? It's just "Gorinsho" and "no" isn't needed.
Yes "the book of five rings" - I have always seen it written "Gorin no sho" in the translations here in Italy

Kinda with a jiu-jitsu or an aikido move?
In his very first fight Myamoto Musashi then aged of 12, faced a famous swordman He (Musashi) was armed with  a sword and a stick. When the fight began Musashi did let drop his sword. His adversary was confused by that  ( he did not knew if Mushasi wanted to surrender or what and it would be shameful for him to kill one that was litlle more than a kid and that was swordless) Musashi did take advantage of his esitation and he grabbed him, tossed him on the ground and finished him with( several) blows of his stick

It seems...but in the "Gorin no sho" (quoted in the translation of the episode) there is a tecnique called "letting go of the hilt" and Myamoto Musashi the author of the book killed his first man letting drop the sword that he had in hand...so you could be right that Serpico will let drop his sword in the next issue... to kill Guts.

Serpico: ...This is
What I've been waiting for!!

** NOTE: The original Japanese line says "suppress the pillow (枕をおさえる)". It's a good strategy from the book "Gorinsho (五輪書)" written by Miyamoto Musashi (宮本武蔵). The strategy means "be aware of the action of the opponent and take the initiative" and Serpico seems to take it as "annihilate the moment of the attack of the opponent and block him completely".

I didn't translate it literally not to confuse people.

Maybe Guts suspects that something is about to happen but he cannot rely on that to stop the fight in time. When the Kushan attack will begin he and Serpico could already be playing a harp on a cloud  :P

I don't think there will be a cave in around Guts ears. These are ornamental pillars, not supporting ones (that would be much stronger). It true however that after  Guts strikes one of them he has to ready again Dragonslayer to strike again. A very fast opponent could take advantage of that.
