Completely unnecessary. I'm one of the only people in my entire town that didnt love this movie. The directing was among the worst I've ever seen (ie shaky/blur camera that makes everything indecipherable). And they left it wide open for more sequels. Urgh.

I personally am not a fan of Tobey Maguire as Spider man, but switching the role three movies in would be catastrophic.
