German Trailer:

  • The Collector's Edition will apparently be limited to 1000 pieces.
  • It's gonna cost 170€ and includes a Booklet, Artcards, Posters and more, though none of the latter is shown in the images.
  • The release date is 17th of July, 2025
  • From what I can tell by the trailer, the German voice actors actually do a good job - it's just that German is a super awkward language for fantasy-based anime imho. The good thing though: it seems like we keep the English pronunciations of the names; so Guts stays Guts, Griffith stays Griffith and I hope Femto stays Femto, and not "Femuth" as it is in the German manga.

What do you think @Judo: are you gonna get it?

I’d love to know more about that. Why is that the case?
I think it’s mainly because German has a very rigid, structured sound to it, which can make emotional or dramatic lines—especially in fantasy settings—feel a bit unnatural or even unintentionally funny. A lot of fantasy anime use dramatic flourishes, poetic phrasing, or invented terminology that just don’t translate as smoothly into German as they do in Japanese (I can only guess here though) or even English. Granted, it's not that bad in Berserk, because it's not as flowery, but I can't wait until they talk about the Beherits, the different worlds, apostles and other fantastic elements of the story. It doesn't sound right to me.

Oh, and depending on where we go with the whole gender "problem" in our language (German has masculine and feminine versions for many words, unlike English. For example, 'soldiers' refers to all soldiers regardless of gender, while 'Soldaten' in German technically refers only to males — so we often need two words to express the same idea), it's going to be really awkward.

Ironically, Crow-chan, German is what a lot of people I encountered imagine Guts and Co sounding like, for some reason. I also watched a German dubbing of Guts vs Zodd from the movies, and it slapped, not gonna lie.

I hope someone tells Griffith, "Hochmut kommt vor dem Fall" somewhere in there. 10/10 then.

Maybe it's just me then, but English is the superior language for these kinds of stories imo. But German poetry and classic literature? That shit slaps.

These are gonna be Guts' final words to Griffith, before he impales him with the Dragon Slayer. :carcus:

This is so random, but good at the same I guess. Hopefully someone will re-do this in italian (I usually prefer japanese dubs, but we have a very solid italian dubbing school)

Anime planet updated their page for the new German Limited Edition and added more information:
  • Apparently, the booklet will have 40 pages.
  • The Limited edition will also include the Opening and Ending song and a picture gallery.
  • They added a description, which is unfortunately flawed:
"Im Schutz der Nacht erreicht ein namenloser Krieger die Mauern von Midland, der sich selbst „Schwarzer Ritter“ nennt. Bewaffnet mit einem gigantischen Schwert und gezeichnet von unzähligen Narben, verfolgt er eine Mission: sich am König von Midland zu rächen. Die Männer verbindet eine lange Geschichte, eine innige Freundschaft, und ein unverzeihlicher Verrat…"
    • It says "he, who calls himself the Black Knight" is on a mission to get revenge on the king of Midland.
  • It will also contain the original Japanese dub.
  • They delayed the release date to the 24th of July.

Second trailer just dropped:

The official description isn't getting any better though; in the first sentence alone, there is a grammar error (a "für" is missing) and spelling error ("unvergleichlicheb"), which is totally off and wrong.

You can buy volume 1 (as a single) for 70€ as off now.

The dub seems to be alright... I expected worse. But I'm not paying 140€ for this when I already got the subbed DVD Box.

It doesn't sound right to me.
Which is only natural if you've practically never read/watched fantasy stories in German/ any other language for that matter.
I feel like these things are rarely about anything concrete, and pretty much only what a particular person is used to.

I watched and read in German basically my whole life until I was 16 or so, and a lot of fantasy was among that.

Wow, I think the dub sounds awesome! To me, the wording feels much more natural compared to the first few German manga volumes (they switched the translator since, but I switched to the English ones, so I can't say much about them).
I don't get the awkward/cringe vibe that TheItCrow seemingly gets.
I hope the dub will be made available on streaming platforms. Not quite clear from these announcements

If I had to nitpick, I would've chosen someone else for Griffith, as I always imagined his voice to be a bit softer/angelic. His voice actor has a hint of a raspy (?) voice, which simply isn't the voice I had in my head, but he seems to do fantastic work so it's totally fine.

The descriptions are indeed weird, but I don't think it's as big of an issue when they're only on the description on the Bluray box or below a YouTube video. Mistakes in the episodes would be an issue for me

I've seen an unboxing of the collector's edition on youtube and it looks really nice honestly. I'm just not invested into the anime, I basically only care for the manga.
