Petition for a Collaboration between Hakusensha, Hidetaka Miyazaki, and George R.R. Martin to Honor the Legacy of Berserk

Hello everyone,

I have created a petition to propose a collaboration for the continuation of Berserk. Considering that the team currently working on the manga seems to be navigating in the dark, and that Master Kouji Mori, while surely aware of the main plot’s conclusion, might not have full knowledge of many details related to the lore and the narrative developments of several characters, I suggest that the work be entrusted to a team collaborating with Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin.

This synergy could ensure a continuation worthy of the greatness of Berserk, while respecting the vision of the late Master Kentaro Miura to the fullest.

If you share this idea, I invite you to sign the petition and support this proposal!

Thank you all.

Berserk should be left alone. Even if someone on par with Miura (no one living today, in other words) were to take it over, it still wouldn’t be the same. Miura can’t be replaced, so his tale should not be touched either.

(Also, the idea of GRRM continuing another author’s work is hilarious, given that he can’t complete his own story)

The idea that Berserk shouldn’t be continued could be a valid perspective. However, the manga is currently being carried forward, and in my humble opinion, those working on it probably know the story’s conclusion but not the journey to get there.

My reasoning is this: considering that George R.R. Martin made an extraordinary contribution to the lore and character development of the masterpiece Elden Ring, and that Hidetaka Miyazaki himself has admitted to being a huge fan of Berserk, why not involve them? These authors could help flesh out characters that the studio led by Kouji Mori might not fully understand or know how to utilize in the story.

The goal would be to make the remaining part of the story more cohesive and linear, ultimately leading to the conclusion that Miura envisioned and that only Mori is likely privy to.

You say that Berserk should be left as it is, and that’s a valid opinion. Personally, I think Berserk could have already ended with the Eclipse, but that’s just my perspective. Still, I bet there are fans out there who really want to see the conclusion of this incredible story. But why ruin it?

Why not reach the end with a coherent narrative, perhaps developed by great authors like Martin and Miyazaki? I know this will probably remain just a dream, but in the end… why not try?

Sorry to say, but I don't feel like petitions do anything. Ever, really. At least not unless they see a big profit in doing that. In which case, there wouldn't be a need for a petition anyway. It feels very naive to think you can change the mind of such a big company with a simple petition signed by even thousands of people.
But this out of the way, I don't see how Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin (???) would somehow help write a competent Berserk continuation.
Also you're assuming here that Mori is somehow unhappy with the continuation so far, and that he'd be willing to completely change its course out of nowhere. If you've read his interviews, that's clearly not the case. They're struggling, yes, but he likely feels satisfied with that they've done so far.

This is such a silly idea that it feels like you're trolling, to be honest. But in case you're serious: Hakusensha will never do that because if a famous author took over the series, he would take a sizable share of the profits. Besides, they've already got a team working on it and seem satisfied with it.

These authors could help flesh out characters that the studio led by Kouji Mori might not fully understand or know how to utilize in the story.

Berserk's characters have already been fleshed out by Kentarou Miura in the 41 volumes of Berserk he created. Bringing in an outside perspective is not what's needed in order to do them justice. And on a side note, Mori doesn't lead the team. Kurosaki does. Mori only acts as a supervisor.

The goal would be to make the remaining part of the story more cohesive and linear, ultimately leading to the conclusion that Miura envisioned and that only Mori is likely privy to.

You won't get to "the conclusion Miura envisioned" by having more people put their spin on it. That aside, you should probably lower your expectations of what Mori knows or understands.

I understand what's your intention when choosing these two big names for this switch of the continuation, ensuring that the work is done with the best possible quality, and for sure choosing people with a solid track record is a bold strategy.

However, I don't think Miyazaki and GRRM would be the best choice for Berserk per-se. I'll speak for Miyazaki, which I think I know best having played his operas for thousands of hours, and his best talent is mainly building the lore and the worlds, level design, and taking solid game design choices... but when it comes to the actual narrative, he's not the best pen out there, imho.
Let's pick Sekiro, for example, which is the "recent" FromSoftware game which is more narrative-oriented: the game is a blast, but its narrative is a 6/10 at best. And that's ok, he's producing games, not stories.
The lore and the world of Berserk... have already been built (amazingly) by Miura. We don't need that, Miyazaki simply can not help there.

There also an additional level of complexity which is the medium used to narrate the story. Being good at designing game worlds or novels is a completely different universe than designing and drawing manga panels.

The sad reality is - again - that only Miura and his genius and sensivity could have concluded this story with the dignity it deserved. But I think we've already discussed this some thousand times on this board. All of these proposals and ideas are, sadly, white noise.

Im not sure if youre joking lol but george already wasted 13 years on shitty side projects so he wouldnt have to complete winds of winter. It would be absolutely darkly hilarious if he suddenly worked on berserk, complete destruction of both my favorite works, both never getting the ending they deserve

I actually think Hajime Isayama would do a great job continuing Berserk. I haven't read any of his interviews, but judging from his work on Attack on Titan, I can confidently say that his manga was heavily inspired by Berserk. The world, themes, and atmosphere of Attack on Titan are also very similar to those of Berserk. So, I think that his contributions would be very valuable.

I have a feeling that A Song of Ice and Fire will share the same fate as Berserk, to be honest. It's poetically fitting how similar they are, almost like parallels of each other.

I barely have any knowledge about A Song of Ice and Fire, but with the bit of knowledge I do have, I can safely say that they do not share the same fate, and it’s not “poetically fitting” how similar they are.

One story couldn’t be finished because its creator, who literally put in everything he had quietly over decades, surprisingly died while working on his masterpiece until the very last second, while the other got a taste of fame and decided to waste a decade on whatever project he was asked to do instead of finishing his story. It’s almost insulting to compare those two circumstances really.

So what exactly is so similar between the two, except that both stories will never be finished?

Um, I don't know why you are angry at me but whether we hate GRRM or like him, we have to admit that he's a genius and his work is regarded as a masterpiece and it is loved and admired by many around the world (like Berserk). And other similarity that I can think of is the genre.

I'm not, why would you think that?

These aren't 'many similarities' and they're so broad and general that 'same fate' and 'poetically fitting' really miss the mark. Claiming a 'same fate' would also imply that the way the story concludes —whether finished or not—would be identical or at least very much the same, which it clearly isn't. That's my main point. I don't particularly care about GRRM, his books or whether he's a genius; I'm simply saying that comparing the two fates doesn't make sense, because one was dedicating everything to finish his work and sadly died, while the other just slacks off.

We don't have to do that. Martin is surely a very good writer, but absolutely not a genius.
If you think so, you're overrating him or you're not so rigorous when judging something/someone.

If he was a genius he would not have had problems to finish his series of books because he can't find a way to close all the plot holes he himself created (something he already admitted in interviews), AFTER 23 YEARS.
The fact that he started working on side projects the much we know, is only disrespectful to his fans after so many years (including me, who finished the fifth book 15 years ago).
I have seem arguments like "he can't finish because he is a perfectionist and it takes time for a so big world building like ASOIAF", but that puts him far from a genius, geniuses are sometimes perfectionists, right, but they are because they don't have problems to BE perfect, a genius doesn't try to be a genius, he just is.

Kentaro Miura is a genius, that's why no one else can finish his story properly.

I was avoiding answering this thread because I found it was a joke but people are giving it the attention as it's actually a possibility. But really believing these two random people can finish Berserk is annoying me. If you believe that, you should re-think if you're actually a Berserk fan.
That's my first and last post in this thread, you can mention or quote my words but I don't plan to answer back.

The ending of AOT is still controversial, and his strength is not enough to take over Berserk. And out of respect for Miura, he will not take over.
