Pink Floyd's new album

Big news for all Pink Floyd fans, new and old. They have a new full-length album titled 'Endless River' and it's up for pre-order (here - http://www.pinkfloyd.com/theendlessriver/) set to release this November.

Waters isn't part of it. I hope the band tours to compliment this release.

Some interesting facts I read at Brain Damage's site -

The Endless River has as its starting point the music that came from the 1993 Division Bell sessions, when David, Richard Wright and Nick Mason played freely together at Britannia Row and Astoria studios. This was the first time they had done so since the Wish You Were Here sessions in the seventies. Those sessions resulted in The Division Bell, the band's last studio album.
In 2013 David and Nick revisited the music from those sessions and decided that the tracks should be made available as part of the Pink Floyd repertoire. It would be the last time the three of them would be heard together. The band have spent the last year recording and upgrading the music, using the advantages of modern studio technology to create The Endless River.

The Endless River is a tribute to Richard, whose keyboards are at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. It is a mainly instrumental album with one song, Louder Than Words, (with new lyrics by Polly Samson), arranged across four sides of vinyl, and presumably on the CD, split into four distinct parts.

Gonna avoid listening to anything till I get my record and enjoy it with a glass of Baileys + ice.

As a big Floyd fan this just seems wrong. Division Bell b-sides as a new album? Not exciting. Should just kiss and make up with Waters and do a proper farewell tour, but that's not gonna happen.

They've uploaded 3 samples on their site - http://www.pinkfloyd.com/theendlessriver/listen. 1 and 2 sound reminiscent of their sound and musical structure from Dark Side, 2 especially is riddled with it!

Well, they already did the kiss and make up farewell show, but turned down the 100 million plus tour opportunity, which is cool I guess, and now everyone is dying (which isn't cool, I guess). Anyway, this does seem like leftovers from an era already made up of leftovers missing the band's main creative force. It's weird when bands start mining their own old materiel like record companies releasing sleazy posthumous "albums." When you reach that point, just release a box set and call it a day. Related tipping point: when you can't play the old songs anymore, let alone write new ones. You'd think that one would be obvious.

I don't know if comparing it to the most successful rock album of all time is doing it a service. =)

Amazon delivered my pre-order of the record and Blu Ray+CD yesterday. I've only listened to it once and it'll take some time to digest the material. For the most part I hear a lot of things they've done in the past (Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Welcome To The Machine, Run Like Hell, Us And Them) mixed with some new. But at no point do they not sound like Pink Floyd. It's interesting ... not much like any album they've put out, more instrumental with just the last song - the title track - featuring lyrics. The album opens brilliantly.
