Doesn't look like his manga art, does it? It looks too... well, sketchy! :ganishka:

I really want to just sit down and read this one day. I can't keep reading small amounts at a time. Semester is almost over though, so that time will be soon

It's in line with most of Inoue's art when it's in the unpolished stage, for instance the between episode sketches.

Sounds like I plan, I know Vagabond gets in the way of my public education. I have until the end of the month to apply for schools to continue at, but instead I'm focused on the LAST Manga Exhibition! I'm literally writing analysis of that instead of my personal statement, but of course, Vagabond is to my real education. :SK:

What's interesting about it though is that they're more polished sketches, but that makes them look even more basic, if that makes sense. Like they're almost a little worse for being a little better, because they are polished, but in a more rudimentary fashion than we're used to from Inoue. To be honest, it looks almost like a different artist to me.

Musashi (probably) makes an appearance on a Samurai Champloo's episode, the other anime from the dude that created Cowboy Bebop. I only saw it a couple of years ago, but I remember it being pretty cool.

This is how it goes:
Jin, a swordsman, falls into a river while unconscious and wakes up at an old man's house. The old man slowly starts to teach him things about life; basically, all that "you must learn how to catch fish and not be fed with fish by someone else" kinda thing. He's pretty goofy all the time though, and whenever he says these deep things, he immediately starts to laugh or fails to accomplish that which he tried to teach. When Jin's ready to go and wants to thank the old man, he asks for his name. The old man, with a deeper voice than usual, says "Miyamoto Musashi". Jin, naturally, has a very surprised look on his face... and then the old guy says "just kidding, you can call me Johhny". The end.

Sorry if this was mentioned before, I just remembered it and wanted to share!

Haha, I never saw that, but just found the scene on youtube for anyone that's interested.

Skip ahead to the 6:45 mark for it, and at about 7:46, you can see a relative of Musashi's guard from volume 30. :ganishka:

This got me laughing, it's a short comedic fan fiction by a professional sports writer about Kobe Bryant and LeBron James fighting to the death, written from the perspective of Kobe:

Fan Fiction in the voice of Kobe Bryant

One of the things that most fans don't know about NBA superstars, is that we like to meet in the off season and fight to the death. So, this past Saturday, I called LeBron James while I was watching my immense LCD. LeBron answered, "What's up, Mamba?"

I kept silent on my end. (I like to intimidate in every area of my life, including when I'm on the phone.)

"Kobe, are you there?"

Still, my ominous silence.

"I can hear you breathing."

Damn. "What's up, Bron?"

"Kobe, you called me."

"So, Bron, I was thinking we should meet up and have a fight to the death."

"Okay."

Then I added, to further intimidate him. "It's on, Bron, you just signed your death ticket."

"Don't you mean, 'death certificate'?"

Was Bron questioning my word choice? "No, I mean 'death ticket', as in, you just bought one, a one way ticket to death."

"Okay," Bron said, "but that's not even a real thing. A 'death certificate' is a real thing, but, okay Mamba, whatever."

* * *

We chose to have our fight to the death in an abandoned factory in China. I flew over in my private jet and made sure I preserved my vital combat energies by abstaining from totally consensual intercourse with my perfect-10 stewardesses.

Instead, I reminisced about other NBA superstars who I have killed in action: Mel Turpin, Joe Barry Carroll, Benoit Benjamin, Stanley Roberts, Arvydas Sabonis, Mike Giminski, Bill Wennington and Edward Martini, who is not technically in the NBA or a superstar but a male nurse I mowed down in an unsolved hit-and-run homicide.

But fighting with LeBron was obviously a different matter. For one thing, he was a small forward, not a center like the usual NBA players I've fought and killed, so he was probably faster, would require a different type of lethality. And another aspect of LeBron James was that he is an active player as opposed to the retired players I prefer to fight and kill, so that would mean I would need to be at the top of my hand-to-hand combat skills. Yes, this was the game 7 of hand-to-hand combat, fight-to-the-death situations, only instead of win-or-go-home, in this case, the loser would be dead, and the winner would go home. (I did not plan to stay in China after the fight.) So it would be lose-or-go-home. I decided to say that to Bron before the fight, for extra intimidation.

* * *

I like to fight in the nude. LeBron initially objected to this, so I agreed to wear a thong. But I didn't tell him that I also like to cover myself in sea slug brine that makes it impossible for my opponents to get a good grip on me and makes my tattoos shine in the stark light.

Well, we were both surprised that instead of an abandoned factory, this was a fully operational sneaker factory where the uniformed Chinese girls were stitching the leather on Nike's Kobe Bryant sneaker. The irony was completely lost on me.

Bron objected to fighting in a functioning factory, pointing out the potential to injure innocent bystanders.

"If they are bystanders, then they are not innocent," I replied.

"Okay, again, Kobe, that doesn't make sense."

I had stripped down to my thong and revealed my glistening, totally ripped body. Bron was intimidated, and really, the fight was over before it began, or shortly after it began, or certainly before it was finished, as I kidney punched him, gouged out his eyes, shoved his nasal cartilage back into his brain cavity, and used my hands like daggers to rip into his rib cage and remove his still beating heart, which I ate.

I fed his body into a wood chipper, and the Chinese girls and I poured his gooey residue into the dye they are using for my new sneakers. Nike's special edition Kobe Kills Lebrons will be on sale February 13, the start of NBA All-Star Weekend.

So I was at work today on my break reading some Berserk volume 26, and one of the guys who works in the flooring department who's around his mid-fifties or early sixties asks what I'm reading.
"Oh, it's a Japanese comic called Berserk, it has really good art blah blah blah"
and he's like
"That's cool, I've been reading and collecting this one comic for a while now ever since I saw it in Japan, have you heard of Vagabond?"
me: :magni:
We talked a little bit about manga and he said he doesn't like the "ones with the big eyes and the noodle people" really, and I'm hoping he might read Berserk if I let him borrow a volume or two. :serpico:

Yes, by all means bring him here and we can turn into a Berserk/Vagabond freak like ourselves. :guts:

I have a similar, funny story. I was chatting with this girl I'm interested in ( :carcus:) at lunch, and I took out my Berserk volume 20 to read. She asked if she could see it, so I passed it her way. As she flipped through it, she exclaimed "Wow. The art is like...top-notch. This is all hand drawn and uber detailed. It reminds me of this one manga that my dad got me into a few years ago..."

So of course, she tells me it's a samurai manga, and I immediately say "Vagabond." She asks how I knew; I politely explain that on SK.net, a large chunk of people commonly believe that Vagabond and Berserk are two, parallel, but equal works of art when it comes to manga. Next day, I gave her Berserk 1 through 3, and she's hooked. She surfs the interwebs often, so perhaps I'll get her to register here. :serpico:

Haha, I got a kick out of those stories; Berserk and Vagabond, bridging generations, making love connections, and just bringing people together! :SK:

Hmmm, an older gentlemen into Vagabond and a girl that was introduced to Vagabond by her father... I hope they both register here so we can find out if they're related. :ganishka:
