King of Fighters XII, Marvel vs Capcom 2

What I find to suck even more is that they dont have some kinda story mode this time around and no awesome over the top super hard boss fight either. They are also lacking is game modes too forgot what they took out I think it was challenge mode or something like that. At least ittle have 22 fighters insted of 20 not a big diff but its still nice.

Well, to be honest, Midway fighters have never really been known for their gameplay. I actually cringed when I first heard about MKvDC.

True, as the technology and genre advanced, it only served to highlight their limitations. They just kept getting worse. Still, if one can't appreciate a classic like Mortal Kombat II, we might as well not play video games.

Woland said:
As far as Blazblue having mediocre concepts, I'm taking that to be in regards to characters and story, as there are some novel fighting game concepts that are quite compelling, such as Rachel's wind control, and Tager's magnetism.

Yeah, I was talking characters and plot, but don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for a plot, less is more actually. It's the awful attempt at plot and dialogue that's so horrid.

For me a fighter needs to have a good fighting system first. The music is second. Character design third. Everything else last. Story doesn't matter to me nor what each fighter is fighting for.

I just mean that they're cool looking/acting and not a lame cliches that, I don't know, might be considered rad in Japan, but are extremely stupid to my foreign eyes, and especially my ears. From my, albeit limited, time playing the game, the BlazBlue lineup were like copies of copies of characters that weren't good in the first place. I don't know, the more you play, the more you grow to like whatever, but certainly nothing about the characters themselves made me want to learn more, quite the opposite.

In the case of MKvDC, I didn't like any of the criteria I mentioned above. Sure the characters(on the DC side) are popular, compelling and time tested but they simply didn't fit into a fighter for me. It just seemed weird to me.

Well, nobody "fits" into a fighter if the fighter isn't good. Plus, as I've been preaching, that whole concept was just an abortion of a mismatch that only brought to mind the much better concepts on the table.

ori said:
Blazblue has a nice fighting system. The music is exceptional.

I'm contesting the latter by the definition of exceptional, as I didn't find anything particularly exceptional about the music as far as composition or the genre goes. It's the same style guitar porn from all the Guilty Gear games, I just remember a bunch of solos. Maybe it was just me, but it certainly wasn't getting stuck in my head.

:serpico: That's cool man. I'm not expecting everyone to love the game. Still I just don't see how design-wise the characters are bad. When you say the game's design, do you mean the background stages or the actual outfits the character are wearing or both? Personally, I love Japanese street/gothic fashion and let me tell you that type of fashion can get a little weird. I can see JP street fashion in their outfits and the obvious gothic lolita outfit style in Rachel. I'm planning a cosplay of Ragna or a red/black version of Jin. I like it that much.

Also, when you say it sounds stupid to your ears? Do you mean the voice acting? And if so in what language were you listening in?

OOOOooo them's fighting words! But I can see where you're coming from. Perfect example is when they decided to mimc the MvC series. Your last sentence is what came to my mind when I actually played MKvDC for the first time. I kept comparing it to Marvel v Capcom.

Well it doesn't get stuck in my head either and that's a good thing in my book. I just think it's great music to fight to. I mean MvC2 had HORRIBLE music. I downloaded a hacked version for Dreamcast w/ alternate colors and an entirely fan-made soundtrack listing because it was so bad. I was debating on making my own soundtrack for the game but got lost on how to do it.

SFIII 3rd strike had sort of bad music. I mean I certainly didn't like fighting to it. Akuma's stage music is the best in that game but other than that...it's a great soundtrack to listen to just not fight to. SFIV now that's some good music to fight/listen to.

Well, I don't. =)

Which is fine, but speaking of cosplay, that's a good metaphor for how I felt about the character designs; it was like they were people cosplaying, dressed up as generic video game/anime archetypes, but not embodying them in the least. Like a poor impersonation you can't quite identify, except for the fact that it's clearly pretend.

English dub, which probably didn't help, but what they we're saying would have been bad in any language. "REBEL 1, ACTION!" Sugoi!!? ...no.

Okay, but by that same reasoning, I find the rest of game's "packaging" to be quite unappealing in that regard, which is my point. Rather than making me think of fighting, it makes me think these characters should be posing for pictures with each other outside a convention center.

Just noticed that the US 360 version is not region protected so I'm getting it now instead of waiting ages for a PAL release :guts:

Ok after playing KOF12 for 2 days I feel the game is not worth getting. I feel the best part about the game is the single player and thats sad since it falls short, its just a time trial to see how fast you can beat 5 teams. They even have an option to go right to the psn store to buy stuff that probably should been in this game to begin with since well its lacking to begin with. I bought this game knowing it was missing alot but my reason of perches was for the online play. Online play is ok but its slow I dont know if its laggy it just feels different then single play like it is not as smooth inputting comands in single player vs online and everything feels alittle slower.

But every charecter plays awesome, the game is really pretty, if i had an hd tv it would look even better. It coud be a great game playing against a friend next to you if only online was a bit better. This game is more for the diehard fan which I am not could also be a reason why I dont like it to much and I also dont do that good online which could be another factor but over all its IMO not worth it.

Does it have storyline at all? Kyo clones, Orochi saga, stupidly difficult boss at the end?

I don't really play the single player more than once but it would be nice to have something to challenge us for a little while.

I mainly play KoF for the multiplayer, would you say it was still worth it if that's all you got it for?

...I've just noticed they're selling KoF98 on XBL now, at least that has a decent roster

kof98u9.jpg

Here's hoping KoFXIII has a roster as good as that

It shows how much KoF12 has let me down already if I'm already wishing for things from KoF13 :puck:

No story no over the top awesome super boss at the end nothing and only 6 stages. Depending on the system single player arcade is basically there to see how fast you can beat 15 characters in 5 matches to get trophies and or achievements. On line is ok since its pretty much like lets say warhawk for example but with a small single player.

Top reasons to own it are: Its really pretty, Single player fighting is smooth, Characters play like a dream, a game a fan would love to own.

On line is ok its slower then single player and i feel that messes up the input for moves. It might just be me but I am not sure I would say rent it first if you like it then buy it or at least get it when its 20 bucks.

Seriously, did you guys heard about KOF 12 just now? Because everyone knew that this game had no story and less characters than before. So why the fuck should one complain about that?
Like i said before, SNK is testing (gameplay and graphics) for future and more complete KOF games. So far, it's pretty awesome.

Just because it's a test game definitely doesn't mean I won't buy it, I have and I'm sure it'll be awesome :guts:

I can complain all I want but it'll make no difference so there's not much point; now all I've got to do is sit back and wait for it to arrive from play-asia :ganishka:

I got it for the on line and it sucks yes I can complain. And yes I heard of kof 12 not having a story if you read a post about me explaining what it was lacking you would have known I knew that already. I never once complained about it not having a story I just stated what it was lacking and for a game that's basically just an on line game it sucks.

Releasing an "incomplete" game to market while testing it on their consumers does sound pretty awesome... if you're SNK. Where can I send the money and blowjobs to reward them for their inspirational gaming malfeasance?

Only in this genre. =)

Well knowing a game lacks something beforehand doesn't mean you can't complain about it anyway. Same goes for selling fully priced "tests", only to release fully priced updated versions a year later. Not exactly commendable.

Well, to be fair, it's not the worst release in gaming history, since IIRC one of the Pool of Radiance games would delete your hard drive when uninstalled. But yeah, that is a pretty shitty thing to do. Another shitty thing to do with a fighting game is make people pay again to download the rest of a roster that should've been included in the first place.

I've not played KoF XII yet, but all I've heard is that it looks good, and plays shitty.

Shitty.

To be fair the game itself plays awesome it just doesn't play well online.

Call me old fashioned, but i think fighting games shouldn't be judged by how good they play online. Everyone seems to be saying KOFXII is shite because of that. I say get some friends irl.

Why cant I judge it on the sole reason of why I bought it? And its the only thing it has going for it in the first place and if its bad I call it how it is. I also love how people are like "omg get some friends irl" wow how old are you? I guess it doesn't even matter that just says it all.

Well I got Blazblue and KOFXII yesterday and have to say that the online on KOF is very laggy while blazblue doesn't. I hope they release a patch for KOF to fix it. If your just going to play offline then its a great game. (I played Capcom verse Snk 1&2 for over 500 hours :O)
