Just started watching Maron on Netflix last night. It's a comedy, 22min episodes about some podcaster I've never heard of before. I liked it right off the bat. I started with a random episode in the 2nd season featuring Sarah Silverman. I watched a few episodes back to back and today I decided to start from the beginning, since I enjoyed it so...anyway the first episode, "Internet troll" features Dave Foley and involves them going to a Hobby Shop, where you can see the Vagabond series on the shelf and I'm 99.9% sure I saw the Berserk series.

Yeah just saw it on Twitter... Sucks. Then again, I hadn't raised my hopes that this would be a homerun anyway.

This really sucks, I was really excited to see him directing something again finally, even more so than for a Twin Peaks continuation really... I hope somehow something is worked out. Was he being unreasonable or was Showtime?

Holy shit man, did you binge watch the whole season yesterday ??
I would have to agree. I watched 2 episodes and it's really cool. The action scenes were amazing, but at some points i found the writing to be a bit off.

If i remember correctly, Griffith you are a fan of Daredevil (comic + movie) right ? I think you mentioned something in the pod casts a while back.

Hmmm, no, maybe we mentioned Daredevil but I hardly qualify as a fan. I've heard good word of mouth about the show though.

I think we may have agreed that we thought Frank Miller's run on Daredevil: Man Without Fear was pretty excellent, when we were talking about American comics a few years ago. At least, that's the only thing that comes to mind.

And that seems to be what this show is based on (at least this part of it), down to the bandanna covering his face.

I'm curious about Daredevil, probably check it out over the course of this week/ coming weekend.

Has anyone watched The Shadow Line? It's an 8 episode British show, one season only. A drug lord has just been released from prison but is found shot in the face in the car that picked him up. His nephew's hot-tempered and wants to know who did it. The police are also investigating it. Initially it's a race to find the killer. But it's not just about that but the little you know about it, the better it is in the long run. So try it out if you're interested in dark noir police drama.

Also caught up with the first episode of the new season of Louie, it was awesome. Follows the same theme as the last season. He's miserable and the situation he gets into (accidentally or not) are funny, real and you gotta feel for the guy.
At the end of time, a moment will come when just one man remains. Then the moment will pass. Man will be gone. There will be nothing to show that we were ever here... but stardust.

Since there's no "TV shows to look forward to" thread I'll put this here:

BBC's adaptation of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. I'll definitely be checking this out.

I think I speak for both Walter and myself when I say that some works are just not meant to be adapted, and that this is one of them.

I know we've all been half wishing for this show's merciful demise since the turn of the century, but... whoa! I suppose the cast, at least Shearer, finally saying "enough" is better than "the time the show becomes unprofitable" arriving and Fox pulling the plug, though they've threatened to plenty during negotiations in recent years. Let's see if this is just that, negotiating, or if they're really going to attempt some half way version of the show minus Shearer. I mean, I was waiting for it to be cancelled, but going on like this is a new low. Hell, they might as well replace everybody on the cheap and just do a full cover band iteration. After all, the "show will go on." We'll see.

Gah... also Kent Brockman, Lenny and Ned Flanders. That's quite a blow.

They should get the guy who did Smithers' voice in the Simpson's arcade game.

All those jokes from a decade ago are coming home to roost. They should just go completely meta, if they aren't already, and introduce Roy as a legit addition to the family. Also, here's an appropriately thoughtful retrospective of Shearer and, appropriately hateful commentary on, the state of the show:

Though, this is kind of sweet:
(It would probably help if you tweeted that @ him, Mr. Brooks)

Anyway, on the lighter side of the news, here's another trailer for that biting new True Detective parody coming out:

Speaking of Simpsons, the season finale's intro had a crossover with Rick and Morty. It's fantastic and I absolutely cannot wait for season 2 of R&M to start.

David Letterman's final show, which was appropriately subdued, self-deprecating, and somewhat skeptical of the whole idea. Here are some highlights:

Opening - Our Long National Nightmare is Over
David Letterman's Final Monologue
Celebrity Top Ten Things I've Always Wanted to Say To David Letterman
David Letterman Works at Taco Bell
David Letterman Highlights featuring Foo Fighters

I'm honestly more a Letterman appreciator than a huge fan, and I guess whether you are or not depends on if you have any use for late night shows altogether (very few people watch these "live" on TV anymore), but if you do, whether you like or have even watched David Letterman, know that every modern iteration of late night television comedy, and a lot of modern comedy in general, is ripped off of Late Night with David Letterman. Also, for those that think they're too cool or sophisticated for any of that shit... well, he started that too, but he told celebrities to their faces. :guts:

I love Seinfeld! I wasn't too sure about this at first, but gotta say, that was pretty funny.  :ganishka: Commercials were good, too.

David Letterman's final show...

Thank you for posting the highlights! I meant to watch the show but it slipped my mind. It was indeed a subdued show but, like you mentioned, it felt appropriate. I was expecting a mention of Leno at some point, even if a small one, but it never came (or I missed it). Out of the top ten list the one I liked the most was the one from Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

I don't watch late night shows anymore but there were periods of my life when I watched a few almost religiously, so this was basically must-watch TV for me. I guess in general this was quite an important final show because it was Letterman.

The longevity of appreciation and continued fan support for Seinfeld is almost as impressive as the show's original run. I feel like it's more popular than The Simpsons at this point and it hasn't been on the air in almost two decades! BTW, this guy's Jerry impression sounds more like a Jay, if you know what I mean. Speaking of which...

Thank you for posting the highlights! I meant to watch the show but it slipped my mind.

Haha, isn't that perfect, though? "You know--I just thought of something. I'll be fine."

It was indeed a subdued show but, like you mentioned, it felt appropriate. I was expecting a mention of Leno at some point, even if a small one, but it never came (or I missed it).

Jay appeared a couple of times in the highlight reel and they used the photograph I posted above when they cut to a commercial break. I heard there were talks for each of them to appear on the other's show near the end of each but it could just never be worked out. It's too bad considering how many times Leno appeared on his show before (when he and Dave were killer btw and had a natural chemistry) it would have blown the roof off. Though, probably appropriate it didn't happen for all the right and wrong reasons (don't want to distract from the other's farewell, don't want to seemingly bow to the other either, and... it just wouldn't be the same).

Out of the top ten list the one I liked the most was the one from Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Mine as well, and here's a great write up on that list, the last show, and Letterman's legacy here:

http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/jokes-from-david-lettermans-final-top-10-list-ranked-1705961620

BTW, as it says in the article, I know #1 is supposed to be bad, though I did enjoy this one, but they should have just had Murray say, "Goodbye, David Letterman!" which would have been perfectly sweet, insulting, cheesy and funny all at once. Too late to hire me now though, Dave!

I don't watch late night shows anymore but there were periods of my life when I watched a few almost religiously, so this was basically must-watch TV for me. I guess in general this was quite an important final show because it was Letterman.

Same here, I was too young to ever get into Johnny Carson, but I had periods when I would regularly enjoy Letterman or Leno (back when they still had their fastballs), but my late night host and show is Late Night with Conan O'Brien. I stayed up WAY too late in high school just to watch Conan act totally weird at 1:30 in the morning because it was like some subversive message nobody else knew about; adults weren't supposed to act like that on TV . That was quite literally my generation's Late Night and I'm glad he's still out there, and somewhat on the fringes. Conan just didn't work as the King of Mainstream Late Night, like Letterman he's much more effective as a subversive misfit and I'm glad he's still thriving on social media, because I'll likely never watch another late night show again. Part of me wishes he did get the Late Show though, but Colbert does truly seem like someone that could do something completely different. I have no idea what to expect.

Anyway, some more tributes from late night luminaries and leftovers:

Conan Says Thank You To David Letterman
Jimmy Kimmel Bids Farewell to David Letterman
Adam Sandler's Musical Ode to David Letterman
Norm Macdonald Performs Stand-Up on David Letterman
Martin Short's Funeral Song for David Letterman

I remember being in college when they began airing Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm on a specific channel, forget the name, oh! and they also aired The Sopranos. But yeah, I never understood why Seinfeld was so popular. I watched upto season 6 or 7 (can't remember) and everyone around me at the time thought it was the shit, the best comedy series on television. I also didn't find Curb Your Enthusiasm funny.

Am I the only one?
