FIFA 2010 World Cup

I think Korea stands a good chance against Uruguay...

The way things have gone so far anybody can definitely beat anybody for sure, still, Uruguay have not allowed a single goal, they have defended very well and Forlán is extremely dangerous on the attack. I don't know, I have a hard time seeing Korea among the last 8.

It'd be awesome if they could reach the quarterfinals.

Even if they reach that stage the way they reached the semis in 2002? :carcus:

European teams at large haven't performed very well this year. Even Spain's in danger if they fail against Chili...

Perhaps you meant Chile? :troll:

For them? Definitely, it'd be a huge accomplishment regardless of how they got there.

Nah I meant those tapas they're having for dinner. :iva:

I thought it was funny how the Italians were complaining about the way the Slovaks were wasting time at the end of the match by faking injuries when they would have done exactly the same had the situation been reversed.

Regarding team USA, now they have an easy road to the semis. How lucky.

Now I can stop pretending to care about the World Cup and pretend to be disappointed about team USA's loss. Fortunately for me, unlike Aaz, everyone else is going to join me in not really caring as well. That said, objectively, I recognize the missed opportunity for the sport in America had the US taken advantage of their favorable schedule and made a deep run.

Oh well, I thought this was interesting though:

Germany and Argentina are through. One clear refereeing error in each game that had an impact on the scoreboard.

After such a brilliant qualifier I never expected England to perform so poorly.

Just as soon as the excitement took over, its dull flame was extinguished almost immediately.

Yay, America? Maybe?

No.

I guess the U.S. boys deserved more this time around but don't fret. Many of the "major" players showed us some abyssmal performances in South Africa. I guess that overpayed and overhyped doesn't automatically lead to greatness in the end. This time around it's more about the underdogs and the forgotten teams. I have to say, i'm still moved about Japans good performance so far. J-League players surely deserve some attention.

Well it's not like the USA had a good chance to win the cup, but I think their performance was respectable this time around, and it certainly bodes well for the future of the team.

Yeah I agree, I saw bits and pieces of their last match and I was impressed. Besides it's always more fun to root for the underdogs.

Man beats 2 year to death for crying during USA/Ghana. Add this one to the story about the old man beaten to death by his family for changing the channel to the World Cup. Really, this guy couldn't just passively abuse the child by locking her in a closet out of earshot until the match was over?

I know this sort of stuff unfortunately happens all the time but it never fails to appall me.

The very end of this Ghana/Uruguay match has been unbelievable. Definitely catch the match highlights if you didn't get a chance to watch this.

Agreed. One of the best games of the Cup.

As for Brazil vs. Netherlands:

I don't know if my heart could've handled much more of the Ghana-Uruguay game. One minute I'm jumping for joy, the next I'm sitting with my face in my hands, and then I'm cheering again the next moment. Great game. :ubik:

As it turns out, you can't kick a player twice and then stamp on his leg. Go figure.

See ya Argentina.

It serves them well, specially Maradona. I'd like to think that perhaps they'll learn a lesson from this but I think I guess it won't happen.

I'm just glad we won't be seeing him running around the streets naked, which was his promise should Argentina win the thing.

Not as much as he's arrogant. He thought he'd make a good coach just because of who he is and he also thought that the Cup was rightfully his and all he had to do to get it was show up. I'm really glad the Germans crushed them the way they did.
