Here's a thread for western comics (superior to manga, deal with it
Last week's highlights:
Action Comics #897
Invincible Iron Man #500
Fantastic Four #587
Feel free to discuss Superior Comics here! No Bishies Allowed.
I don't have a list for Image and Dark Horse, if you can find one that updates often feel free to post it. Otherwise I have to enter each one manually. BPRD: Hell on Earth Gods #2 is out this week, but that's the only one I can think of off the top of my head.Walter said:DC and Marvel only? Guess you like tights!
heavy ink sells mangaMrWeatherby said:Reminder: The OP started getting his comic books shipped to him from HeavyInk after Travis Corcoran's comments on the AZ shooting, thus making Jeff Goldblum Fan a funder of terrorism.
Stop terrorism in its tracks, true patriots read manga.

Aphasia said:I feel the same way. I'm a huge fan of the old batman and superman cartoons. But I can never really delve into comic books like I can a Manga like Berserk. I have a pretty decent sized box of comics, since it's a bit of a tradition in our family to get comic books for Christmas/Birthdays. Some of the novel-sized stuff I really enjoy. Particularly Watchmen, Batman vs. Predator and the whole Superman vs. Doomsday collection. I think it has to do mainly with the story being localized into one big volume. I get a little overwhelmed by all the various story arcs and versions comics have. It seems like it would be difficult to track down all the issues to understand what's going on. Just my personal preference. It's a whole new world, I've just never gotten "into" it besides reading a stray out of order comic here and there for kicks.
It's not a big mystery. First of all, it's cheaper to print black and white. And most manga is serialized in publications similar to Young Animal. In addition to that, manga usually have much more frequent releases than US comics.Deci said:Why don't the Japanese like to use color anyway? Some of them use computer graphics now but still no color... has anyone figured that out?
Not to mention much smaller teams working on it usually.Walter said:It's not a big mystery. First of all, it's cheaper to print black and white. And most manga is serialized in publications similar to Young Animal. In addition to that, manga usually have much more frequent releases than US comics.
Masamune Shirow employs computers for special effects pretty regularly: http://www.allposters.com/IMAGES/DMS/MEP271.jpgMrWeatherby said:I would still like to know what he means by "computer graphics." Is he talking about digital inking/coloring?
This, except replace Delano with Ennis/Milligan, and replace Alan Moore with Grant Morrison.NightCrawler said:I recommend Hellblazer, specially the Delano run, amazing comics. And everything by Alan Moore of course.
I really enjoyed Claremont's X-Men when i was a youngster. Sandman too. Other than these i don't really appreciate comics these days.

NightCrawler said:Delano is so much better than every other Hellblazer writer, i thought this was a widely accepted "fact".
As for Moore vs Morrison, they're in a different class i believe.
Jeff Goldblum Fan said:I thought Delano was a lot more inconsistent than most of the others. He did some really great stories, yeah, but he also wrote some total turds that are a waste of ink.
And yeah Morrison is in a different class than Moore, he's actually a good writer and doesn't rely entirely on a gimmick of being so freakin wacky and lol quirky. Hey guys, Moore lives in a hobbit house!!! And wrote a book of child pornography! Haha, he's so crazy.

Women to the left of me, women to the right.
NightCrawler said:Please explain how in the hell does Moore's gimicky "wacky" living translates into his work, because i don't see any of it.
Congrats you posted the only good things he's done (except Watchmen which is awful, and is only notable because it was a departure for its time, could replace that with Miracleman). Now look at the millions of other piles of shit he's written.NightCrawler said:Please explain how in the hell does Moore's gimicky "wacky" living translates into his work, because i don't see any of it.
V for Vendetta, his Swamp Thing run, Watchmen, From Hell are all masterpieces. And The Killing Joke is probably the best Joker story ever written.
Yeah, he wrote some of the best. And some of the worst (outside that one chick whose name I forget who everyone hates). I haven't read all of Ennis, but from what I've read (Dangerous Habits, Fear and Loathing, Tainted Love) he's been far more consistent both in characterization of Constantine and quality of the story arcs.Inconsistent? He wrote the best Hellblazer stories like The Horrorist and Family Man. Of everyone, you actually picked the most inconsistent of them all - Ennis. His Constantine is just a prick with no real depth.
